Deuteronomy 20

1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

2 And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,

3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

5 And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

6 And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it.

7 And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

8 And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren’s heart faint as well as his heart.

9 And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people.

10 When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.

11 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:

13 And when the Lord thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:

14 But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath given thee.

15 Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.

16 But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:

17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee:

18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the Lord your God.

19 When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life) to employ them in the siege:

20 Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued.

  1. Verses 3-4 NLT ” He will say to them, ‘Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them. For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!’” Same verses MSG “He’ll say, “Attention, Israel. In a few minutes you’re going to do battle with your enemies. Don’t waver in resolve. Don’t fear. Don’t hesitate. Don’t panic. God, your God, is right there with you, fighting with you against your enemies, fighting to win.” Remember the song “In Jesus’ Name”:

    God is fighting for us
    Pushing back the darkness
    Lighting up the Kingdom
    That cannot be shaken
    In the Name of Jesus
    Enemy’s defeated
And we will shout it out
    Shout it out!

  2. Deuteronomy 20:1-4 KJVS

    1. When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

    2. And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,

    3. And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

    4. For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

    1 Samuel 17:45
Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

The enemy would come against them with many people, horses, and chariots like Goliath came against David with sword, spear, and shield, but they had nothing to fear for the same reason we have nothing to fear; no matter what the enemy plans to use against us, we have God on our side – He is all we need!

    V1
Little David looked so small, and Goliath looked so tall
The odds were just too high for Little David
So he shook off all of his load
For with the power of God he was bold
He said The battle’s not mine
I give it to You; Lord, it’s Thine

    CH
The battle’s not mine, said little David
Lord, it’s Thine; I’m in Your favor
I’ve given it all to You, I knew not what to do
I’m so glad You let me see You’re really all that I need
For the battle’s not mine, I give it to You
    Lord, it’s Thine

  3. 3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;
4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
    Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
    Deuteronomy 3:22
Ye shall not fear them: for the Lord your God he shall fight for you.

Our GOD is such a good GOD!! Its very simple to understand that if you put GOD first He will go before you in all your battles. He will ALWAYS be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.

  4. 4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

Don’t be afraid because JESUS is always with you!

  5. GROW IN AUTHORITY

Take no prisoners. GOD has called his people to conquer. We conquer the places that GOD gives us, take the spoil and level the place. We GROW in AUTHORITY every time we conquer sin.

GOD gives us AUTHORITY to LIVE in VICTORY because HE is ALIVE!

  6. iLove to Grow in the Word

““Then the officers will also say, ‘Is anyone here afraid or worried? If you are, you may go home before you frighten anyone else.’”
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭20:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Wow, this scripture leaped up and slapped me in the face…😳 Fear begets Fear, and sometimes the only way to get rid of fear is to get rid of the scary person. Also as I was reading this the words of Jesus came to mind about all the folks giving excuses… He probably was referring to this portion of scripture. Wow

  7. Lack of Trust???

    3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;
4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

When I read the news and is all about Muslim Terrorist which they call Martyrs, I can help but ask myself, where are ours??? Our Military gives their life for their country daily, but who gives their lives because of their believe in Jesus Christ?? You hear of them in foreign countries, but how about in the good old USA?? Have we gotten so comfortable with the American way, that we can’t stand up knowing trusting that our Lord will never leave us nor forsakes us and that He Fights for Us!!! Who among us are willing to stand against the enemy and give his life for our God. We have gotten so politically correct that in the fear of offending someone we sell out our convictions and values!!!! The Lord says stand, fight, and I will give you the land and everything in it. God knows where fear gets you and that’s why in verse “8 And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren’s heart faint as well as his heart.” God kno s the crippling effect of fear. NOW, WHERE ARE THE ONES THAT TRUST COMPLETELY IN GOD WILLING TO DO IT ALL IN HIS HOLY NAME JESUS CHRIST. ANSWER YOUR CALL TO WAR IN JESUS NAME AMEN

  8. 20 Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued.

Make weapons out of their own trees and subdue it!!!
Using what “belongs” to the enemy against the enemy!!!

    This is like our praise!!!
he was the angel of music.

Ezekiel 28:13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.”

PRAISE IS A MIGHTY WEAPON OF WARFARE!!!
the enemy HATES it when we start praising JESUS.
    1. BECAUSE JESUS DEFEATED him!!!
    2. the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
So, In other words he is no longer needed because NOW WE PRAISE GOD EVEN BETTER THAN WHAT he did!!!……….. There is alot more even a blind man can see that!!!
JESUS I PRAISE YOU DADDY!!! HALELUJAH!!!

  9. Focused in the battle

When we were competing in MMA our couches would tell us the day before the big fight not to watch television, not to go to the movies, not to make any big purchases, don’t make any big decisions, don’t eat spicy food…. All these things could be in our mind when we got in the middle of the fight. When your in battle you have to focus on the intent of the battle only. Today we fill our minds with the word of God. It is the ammunition amd the focus for the battle. We lay down distractions of the world and focus on the intent of the battle which is to win souls for the kingdom of God. Sister Vesta Mangun said ” take this whole world but give me souls” she was focused on the battle.
If we really separate what is important and what is not then we would find that there are too many things distracting us. Let’s focus today on what God has called is to do.

  10. 19 When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life) to employ them in the siege:

    Don’t cut off your resources!
You never know when you will need someone of something. Keep those around you , good and faithful friends and family. And your church family. If you have a pet this next statement will make since. You better not bit the hand that feeds you. Don’t cut off God in the bad time or in the good. Always keep him at the closest to you. He is your everything.

  11. 16 But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth

God had something simile to king Saul. But the difference was that Saul disobeyed.

  12. Where is Your Confidence?
“When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. Deuteronomy 20:1

Christian leaders today can Bank on the same promise that gave Moses such courage: ” For the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you”( Deuteronomy 20:4) And so God gives us the same word He gave to Moses: “Do not be afraid.”

It’s always a good idea to have a battle plan if you intend to lead an army into war. Moses possessed a plan for the army of Israel, a set of instructions that came straight from the top—- the very top. Imagine the confidence a field commander could instill in his troops knowing that he could not lose. Yet that was just the kind of guarantee God gave Moses and the people of Israel. God assured them they had nothing to fear– as long as they remembered that He would remain with them always.

  13. 1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

  14. Deut. 20:1-4 (NLT)
    1) When you go out to fight your enemies and you face horses and chariots and an army greater than your own, do not be afraid. The LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with you!
    2) When you prepare for battle, the priest must come forward to speak to the troops.
    3) He will say to them, Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them.
    4) For the LORD your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!

As POFW is turning northward into new territory, there will be many battles to fight. But remember: We are not to be afraid. For the LORD our God is going with us. HE will fight against our enemies for us, and HE will give us Victory.

  15. 3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

Thank you Lord for helping me fight my battles! That is so awesome because we’re never alone to have to fight our battles.

  16. 17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee:

18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the Lord your God.

When God says destroy something get rid of it! It will come back and take things from you. This may not be groups of people today but there are things we each individually deal with that God tells us to get rid of it. If we leave a doorway open to it then it will come back in our lives and steadily chip away at what we know to be truth.

  17. 8 And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren’s heart faint as well as his heart.
God wants only the Champions to be in battle. he wants us to be focused on doing his work and not to allow anything to deter us or distract us from his plan when we put our hands to the plow he does not want us looking back but he wants us focused for the mission at hand. Let us stay focused on this new faith that God is bringing the church into as we prepare to make our move to the promised land!

  18. 1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

This is a great promise to hold on to. We are victorious no matter what. If God is for us numbers do not matter or the size of the enemy…who can be against us!?

1 John 4:4New King James Version (NKJV)

4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

    We win!!!

  19. 16 But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:

17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee:

18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the Lord your God.

Stop listening to other people’s opinion of the word of God, of what Holiness is, leave them behind and Learn what God is teaching us through our Man of God! Because I’ll never grow if I listen to half truth, I’ll only be half free, if free at all but if I listen to the Word, Read the Word I’m getting it from the MOUTH OF GOD! and HE IS THE WORD! I’M FREE BECAUSE THE TRUTH WILL SET ME FREE!
GOD YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT, MAJESTIC, MAGNIFICENT, GOD! THANK YOU!

  20. 20 Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued.

Use what you have in your arsenal to fight your battles. They used the trees to build up bulwarks against the city for protection. God has given us His Word, prayer, fasting, wisdom and knowledge. It is up to us to use those tools as necessary so that we are the victors in the battle.

  21. Deu 20:1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

When the beginning of your day starts great, but three hours in your reminded that your not perfect. Things go wrong, money slips through fingers, and time ran out the window.
But in that moment we have to remind ourselves to breathe take a step back and allow God to do what he does best.
    Being our God!

  22. 1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

2 And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,

    3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

Amen! !!! Thank you jesus for a man of God who constantly encourages us that God is fighting for us and we have the victory! !!

  23. 3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

  24. Do not fear the Lord is here!

    3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

As long as we have the Lord on our side there is no need to have fear nor to doubt. We must have faith in Him, for he can never fail!!

    3. And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

    4. For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

  26. 2 When you prepare for battle, the priest must come forward to speak to the troops. 3 He will say to them, ‘Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them.

Just like in today military force, the troops need to hear their leaders/commanders speak. A leader speaks honesty, truth, and encouragement to his troops. The troops observe a leader to lead them to victory and not defeat. We as Christians must to they same for the lost, and those searching for God. We must give words of encouragement to lead to God!

  27. Deuteronomy 20:19 (NLT)
19 “When you are attacking a town and the war drags on, you must not cut down the trees with your axes. You may eat the fruit, but do not cut down the trees. Are the trees your enemies, that you should attack them?

If you cut the trees down you destroy the fruit.

When we are evangelizing we do not want to cut down the trees. In other words it’s not our job to tell people they will go to hell if they don’t stop sinning. If we approach people with an attitude of self righteousness and not love they will never come to know the Lord; at least not by us.

Yes the land is ours and God is giving it to us but every soul, even if they are opposed, has potential to be used greatly by God.

  28. 1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

If God be for us who can be against us.

  29. 5 And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

  30. NLT ) 3 he will say to them listen to me all you men of Israel do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them 4) for the LORD your GOD is going with you he will fight for you against your enemies and he will give you victory

♡♡ I am so bless That our GOD wort leave us on the battlefield by ourselfs but fight with us and for us

  31. 4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
I don’t have to be afraid God will fight my battles. The battle is the lord not ours.
PS 27:1 the lord is my light and my salvation..

  32. Moses reminds the conquering Isrealites to spare the fruit trees because they provide sustenance. Historically, conquering nations often completely destroyed the areas they conquered by cutting down all the trees and produce, burning cities down to the ground and spreading salt over it all. The conquered areas would become unproductive for generations. That is not Gods way. The nations being conquered by the Isrealites are suffering for their rebellion against God. However God thinks of everythimg. Her interested in the smallest of details. Though the nation has rebelled, the produce of that nation is important for the Israelites and should be preserved.

  33. “And he shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them;”(Deuteronomy‬ ‭20:3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

In the wars wherein Israel engaged according to the will of God, they might expect the Divine assistance. The Lord was to be their only confidence. In these respects they were types of the Christian’s warfare. Those unwilling to fight, must be sent away. The unwillingness might arise from a man’s outward condition. God would not be served by men forced against their will. Thy people shall be willing, Ps 110:3.

  34. v4 For the LORD your GOD IS he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

    GOD’S infallible WORD IS eternal.
“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away”
    Luke 21:33
Since we cannot improve on it, we should read it, believe it, and obey it.

  35. v4 For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

Something very strange happens in my heart when I read that our omnipotent GOD will a certain thing to come to pass.
I get the awesome but wonderful feeling that there is no power on earth or in hell that can stop GOD’S WILL…..

IT is possible you can find yourself fighting against GOD.
THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOUR WORD!!!
We the church are destine to succeed!!!!

    DID YOU HEAR THAT DEVIL.!!!!

Acts 5:39. But if it be of GOD, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against GOD.

  36. “And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren’s heart faint as well as his heart.” The Creator (Jesus) intended for his people to trust him, and not be fearful or fainthearted. Never the less the officers were wise, as they were well aware of the erosion caused by such talk. God help us stand strong in you and not be fearful or fainthearted. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  37. “That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the Lord your God.” They were told to destroy, to cut it off. The reason may not always be clear at first; however time will usually make all things, very clear. God help us understand that obedience to your word is for our good, in Jesus name.

  38. This chapter condones the genecide of different peoples. This is a topic of interesting debate between Christians as well as nonchristians. Many interesting arguments are seen on both sides, and it cannot be truly understood in a positive light without being an insider to the Christian faith, I.e. A believer.

  39. God has given us power over the enemy. If we expect to overcome, we must stay in the will of God. Our victory is set as long as we follow God’s commandments.

  40. 8 “Then the officers will also say, ‘Is anyone here afraid or worried? If you are, you may go home before you frighten anyone else.’ (NLT)

Our attitudes are contagious; what kind of attitude are you sharing?

  41. When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

When going into battle for the region of Fort Worth let us understand that “Greater is He that is within us than he that is in this world.”

We must also understand that the priest came to send away all those that were distracted. When we go in to bind the strongman of our city and we are already distracted we go in not fully walking in the authority God has given us.

Let us walk in unity and authority and take this city for His glory.

  42. 17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee:
18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the Lord your God.

  43. 1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

Joel 2:21 Fear not, O land, be glad and rejoice, for the Lord will do great things.

  44. 2 And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,
    3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;
4 For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

Week after week, we too hear, that if God is for us then who could be against us. We too hear, that we are more that conquerors. We too hear many encouraging words, from the Man of God. The reason is because it IS TRUE!

As humans we often loose sight of the real enemies we face, and we need to be encouraged through the Man of God to not loose hope, yet to keep fighting. We have a multitude of people around us that is counting on us to encourage them too, and let them know Jesus is for them too, they just need to turn whole heartedly toward Him, and obey His Word…

  45. Deuteronomy 20:5

The first three exemptions were not based on a person’s moral opposition to war but his moral responsibility to do domestic affairs.
