Deuteronomy 21

1 If one be found slain in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him:

2 Then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain:

3 And it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an heifer, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;

4 And the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and shall strike off the heifer’s neck there in the valley:

5 And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the Lord thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the Lord; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried:

6 And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:

7 And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

8 Be merciful, O Lord, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel’s charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them.

9 So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the Lord.

10 When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the Lord thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,

11 And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife;

12 Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house, and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

13 And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

14 And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.

15 If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated:

16 Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn:

17 But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.

18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

22 And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:

23 His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

    Stubborness and Rebellion are to be put to death. If we were living in the Bible days many people would have died but thanks be to God that He came that we may have life. He is Alive!

    We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers and rulers of darkness of this world. Ephesians 6:12 Today we do not kill the person but we kill the root which is the spirit of rebellion and stubbornness. How do we kill it? By the blood of Jesus and the Word of God. It is important to pray the Word over our children and those that are living in rebellion and stubbornness. The Word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edge sword. Hebrews 4:12

    • We must also live a life free of rebellion and stubbornness in as a testimony to those around us that we are submitted and obedient. Be an example! It’s starts with me.

    The sin of rebellion.

    Wow. Aren’t you glad you didn’t live in the the old testament days? And kids now days whine about getting there phones and tablets taken away. I thank God each day, for my parents correcting me. For that is the reason why I am the way I am today. Parents coming from a young adult please correct your kids now! So later they don’t do anything stupid.

  3. INSTRUCTIONS TO PARENTS FOR REBELLIOUS CHILDREN

    18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:
    19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

    There are certain scriptures that seem to be more popular than others. The entire BIBLE is TRUTH and here we find a solution for parents to deal with rebellious children. GOD places the burden of responsibility on the parents; not on the Pastor, Youth Pastor, Sunday School teacher, Public Educational system, society or law enforcement officials.

    These words seem harsh to and for a parent, however as parents we are the influencers of our children, we are to teach them, lead them and challenge them to always honor GOD and follow TRUTH. However we learn here that the destructive process begins with stubbornness, then to rebellion and results in disobedience.

    What a way to purge the land!! The loss of a child is the most hardest thing a parent can face in life. But as in this situation, a parents must ask themselves do I love my child more than what I do God?
    There is consequences to everything that we do. We have been taught the word of God, to obey the word of God, and also to live by the word of God.

    There is severe discipline for him who forsakes God’s way; and he who hates reproof will die [physically, morally, and spiritually]. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭15‬:‭10‬ AMP)

    As for me, I hold onto the word of God, and also remind him of his word. I also understand that it all comes down to Choices that an individual makes. And I’m ok with that. I’m in this journey(race) until the end!!!
    Although there are things I must let go(child) and some. I must do what ever it takes to endure.

    Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling (self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ). (‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭12‬ AMP)

    I must live and not die!
    I still have hope! I still have joy! I AM VICTORIOUS!!!!

    Dealing with a Rebellious Son
    18“Suppose a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or mother, even though they discipline him. 19In such a case, the father and mother must take the son to the elders as they hold court at the town gate. 20The parents must say to the elders, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious and refuses to obey. He is a glutton and a drunkard. 21 Then all the men of his town must stone him to death. In this way, you will purge this evil from among you, and all Israel will hear about it and be afraid.

    The Lord has these commandments and regulations for Israel for a reason and that reason is exposed at the end of this chapter. The reason is, “In this way, you will purge this evil from among you, and all Israel will hear about it and be afraid”.

    There is an element in today’s society that almost encourages bad behaviour and that is a lack of fear of authority and of God. We must fear the Lord in order to move to the next level in God’s Kingdom.

    being a youth pastor and having dealt with a lot youth that sometimes can be hard to handle I am thankful that this is no longer the way that Rebellion is dealt with. it is important for youth to be obedient to parents do not give them a hard time but the love and respect them. by doing so we receive the only commandment with a promise that It will be well with us and God will prolong our days on this Earth.

    I don’t know why , but this stood out to me. Even though the elders in the city didn’t kill the stranger, they still had to make an atonement. But because of their obedience, God forgave them! I don’t know how many times I been falsely accused of something and instead of seeing the situation through to the end, everytime I ran. God knows our circumstances and he has a way of working it out to where our accusers are dealt with in one way or another! And the obedience will be rewarded. God is so oolong good!

    Prayer changes things. I’m thankful today for as a testimony to those that have wayward children, keep them covered in prayer. Make a memorial before the Lord everyday speaking those things that are not as though they were, not telling God how bad they are. You are speaking life into the atmosphere of their being and their spiritual man.

    In our example today the people judge the children’s rebellion and stoned him if found guilty.

    The power of prayer can turn the situation from deserving death to receiving life everlasting.

  10. 18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

    Rebellion is the root of witchcraft. If we let stubbornness and rebellion control our every move, we will never have the relationship we need with God. This is why must die to our flesh daily, we must die to the spirit of stubbornness and rebellion, so that we can live in Him, and He can live in us!!

  11. 0The parents must say to the elders, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious and refuses to obey. He is a glutton and a drunkard

    This has to be the hardest thing for parents to admit, that their son or daughter is rebellious, especially to their Pastor. It must be done, so the body of Christ can pray for them, and hopefully the son/daughter comes back to church.

    God does not mess with a stubborn and rebellious spirit and wants it out from among his people. We are to analize oursleves and ask God to reveal to us anything that does not please Him. He is coming forna perfect bride and will not tolerate anything messing with His bride the church.

    Gal. 3:13-14 says, ” Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

    We have the blessings of Abraham upon us, and we can receive the promise of the Spirit (Holy Ghost) through faith, because Jesus became a curse for us and hung upon a cross.

    22 “If someone has committed a crime worthy of death and is executed and hung on a tree, 23 the body must not remain hanging from the tree overnight. You must bury the body that same day, for anyone who is hung is cursed in the sight of God. In this way, you will prevent the defilement of the land the Lord your God is giving you as your special possession.

    13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
    He was cursed so we wouldn’t have to be. He took our place where we deserved to be. What great love that the Lord has for us.

  15. 9. So you shall remove the guilt of innocent blood from your midst, when you do what is right in the eyes of the LORD. NASB

    Obedience and repentance go hand-in-hand to cleanse guilt from our lives.

  20. Following the commandments that God has given may not always be easy, but it is the right thing to do. We cannot pick and choose the things we want to follow, but we must obey all God has said. There is victory in our obedience.

  21. “And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.” The word of God (Jesus) may seem harsh; never the less it is the word of God (Judge). The necessity for prayer for one’s children should not/cannot be taken lightly. Unfortunately there are other countries today that still perform similar actions, in public and for all to see; however it is for their, own purpose and goals. Dear God, awaken us to the necessity of prayer and also as too what is really transpiring. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  22. “So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the Lord.” The lord’s ways may not always be understood; none the less they are to be followed. The goal should always be too do what is right, in the Lord’s sight. God help us that we do not become hard hearted or callused to you or your ways, in Jesus name.

    Only GOD can redeem us unto HIMSELF . ONLY GID can forgive sind and has power beyond death and the grave

  24. Interesting laws about taking a captured woman for a wife. This law goes out to protect the woman of war. It was not uncommon during this time for them to be treated badly. One doesn’t have to think much about what would happen. Then if they weren’t killed they would normally be sold into slavery. God sought to protect victims of war through this law. It really set Israel apart from other nations in how they treated captured women.

  25. 1. THOU shalt not see thy brother’s ox or his sheep go astray, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother. 2. And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again. I LOVE YOU JESUS !!!!

  26. In reading this chapter, I thought about my own upbringing. I now realize how difficult it must have been for my Dad, not only to be my Dad; but, also my Pastor for many years. Many today try to be a buddy or friend to their children; but, we are called to parents. Proverbs 19:18 MSG “Discipline your children while you still have the chance; indulging them destroys them.” Proverbs 22:6 KJV says “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

  27. A man guilty of a capital offense that is hung on a tree, his body is not to be left overnight. Although Jesus died upon the cross He did not stay there. His purpose was to bare our sins by becoming a curse that we could be forgiven and no longer seperated from Him. God does not want anything to separate us from him. God takes the guilty mans repentance and turns it for His glory.

    Romans 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  28. 18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

    It’s so much easier to truly correct your child when they are little, teaching them to obey you. Obedience should not be the option it is today. Even telling your child they will be punished later -as in later when we get home, usually never happens! Teach them to yield their wants and desires to what you know is best for them in the long run.

    2 Corinthians 2:10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also, for if I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ.

    Thank God for the blood! His blood that He shed on the cross for my sins, that I might be forgiven.

  31. Deuteronomy 21:17

    Regardless of the father’s feelings for the son’s mother the oldest son as successor to his father was entitled to a double portion of the father’s state according to Israelite law.
