Deuteronomy 27

1 And Moses with the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day.

2 And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them with plaister:

3 And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee.

4 Therefore it shall be when ye be gone over Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaister them with plaister.

5 And there shalt thou build an altar unto the Lord thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.

6 Thou shalt build the altar of the Lord thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the Lord thy God:

7 And thou shalt offer peace offerings, and shalt eat there, and rejoice before the Lord thy God.

8 And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

9 And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the Lord thy God.

10 Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the Lord thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.

11 And Moses charged the people the same day, saying,

12 These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are come over Jordan; Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin:

13 And these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse; Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

14 And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice,

15 Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

16 Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

17 Cursed be he that removeth his neighbour’s landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen.

18 Cursed be he that maketh the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen.

19 Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.

20 Cursed be he that lieth with his father’s wife; because he uncovereth his father’s skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen.

21 Cursed be he that lieth with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen.

22 Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

23 Cursed be he that lieth with his mother in law. And all the people shall say, Amen.

24 Cursed be he that smiteth his neighbour secretly. And all the people shall say, Amen.

25 Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen.

26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.

  1. Verses 9-10 NKJV “Then Moses and the priests, the Levites, spoke to all Israel, saying, “Take heed and listen, O Israel: This day you have become the people of the Lord your God. Therefore you shall obey the voice of the Lord your God, and observe His commandments and His statutes which I command you today.” We must heed, listen and obey the voice of the Lord our God. Psalm 95:7 CEV says “The Lord is our God, and we are his
people, the sheep he takes care of in his own pasture. Listen to God’s voice today!”

  2. Deut. 27:1-3a & 8
    1) AND Moses with the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day.
    2) And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them with plaister.
    3) And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law…
    8) And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

The reason why the words of the law were written plainly on the stones was so that people could read and understand them for themselves.
Pastor told us Wednesday night in Bible Study, “Know what the commandments are.” How can we know what the commandments of God are? They are written in His Word. So Read The Word and understand them for yourself.

    Read the Word
    Study the Word
    Know the Word
    GROW in the Word

  3. 2. And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them with plaister:

    Put God first.

On the same day that you cross over Jordan…don’t take a sight-seeing tour…don’t build houses… don’t plant crops…write the law and build an altar.

We have a promise that all the other will come, and be blessed, if we put Him first.

  4. 9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests addressed all Israel as follows: “O Israel, be quiet and listen! Today you have become the people of the Lord your God.
10 So you must obey the Lord your God by keeping all these commands and decrees that I am giving you today.” (NLT)

I remember when I was in sixth grade one of my teachers had a poster on the wall that said this: “Listen and silent are spelled with the same letters.” It’s real hard to to not use both words together; think about it, if you’re not silent and listening, how are you going to hear and know the instructions to be able to follow them?. We must be attuned with God and know appropriate times to use these words so that we know His commands and then are able to obey them.

  5. iLove to Grow in the Word

    Amen H543

    אָמֵן
    ‘âmên
    aw-mane’
From H539; sure; abstractly faithfulness; adverbially truly: – Amen, so be it, truth.
    Total KJV occurrences: 30
    From Root Word
    539 aw-man’
A primitive root; properly to build up or support; to foster as a parent or nurse; figuratively to render (or be) firm or faithful, to trust or believe, to be permanent or quiet; morally to be true or certain; once (in Isa_30:21; by interchange for H541) to go to the right hand: – hence assurance, believe, bring up, establish, + fail, be faithful (of long continuance, stedfast, sure, surely, trusty, verified), nurse, (-ing father), (put), trust, turn to the right.
    Total KJV occurrences: 108

As the message went forth the man of God the people said “Amen” to agree with the Words of the Lord. It’s always important to affirm the Words of truth.

  6. 26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.
    Amen!

  7. As we read. If you do anything not right before the Lord. Then you are cursed. As I read that part of the passage. My mind went to the scripture were it says be sure your sins will find you out. Think about that. That is a promise. But it’s what we do when those sins find us. We can either overcome them or allow them to consume us. The choice is up to us.

  8. At the end of this chapter in verses 14-26 we have a great example of mixing our faith. Thankful for the knowledge of the Word and leadership who has taught us.

  9. YES!!!
26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.

    AMEN!!! HALELUJAH!!!

  10. Deuteronomy 27:23
Cursed be he that lieth with his mother in law and all the people shall say Amen.

We need to follow the law of Jesus Christ him self or we well go down the wrong path . Follow Jesus and Grow with Jesus Amen

  11. 10 Listen to the Voice of God, your God. Keep his commandments and regulations that I’m commanding you today. MSG

  12. 10 Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the Lord thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.

    Blessings come from Obedience!

  13. 1 And Moses with the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day.

There are more commands from God than just his 10 commandments. We are obey the instructions from the man of God in our lives.

  14. 15 Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

I have to be very careful that this is not my direction. Every time something doesn’t go the way I want it too. I begin to revert back to my old ways. This one leaped out at me due to things that the enemy has used in the past. NO MORE SATAN!! YOU WILL NEVER WIN THE DAY AGAIN! I BELONG TO GOD, JESUS REIGNS OVER MY HOUSE AND MY SOUL!!! God bless and have a wonderful day…..Amen

  15. As messed up some of the people of the world are today, it was just as bad back then. There would not be any laws concerning these matters if people were not doing these things. A few years ago someone sued McDonalds because there coffee spilled on them and there was no warning on the cup that the contents of the cup were hot. Now, because of ignorant manipulative people, we have statements on coffee cups that the contents are hot.

A warning label on an iron-on-patch states do not iron while wearing shirt. This indicates that someone at sometime attempted to iron this patch onto a shirt they were wearing…

As Mark Twain stated: Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

  16. Deuteronomy 27:7 And thou shalt offer peace offerings, and shalt eat there, and rejoice before the Lord thy God.

Deuteronomy 26:11 And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the Lord thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you.

    Rejoice in Your Labour
    Eccl.5:18-20
Enjoyment is a gift of God, and man should be motivated by the brevity of his own life to experience it.

  17. 5 And there shalt thou build an altar unto the Lord thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.

6 Thou shalt build the altar of the Lord thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the Lord thy God:

Instructions of what to do when they came into their promised land and also instructions of what not to do.

This chapter totally disputes those “christians” who feel like they can live anyway they choose, and God ok with that. There are too many instances in His word where clearly He tells us there are commandments to follow to be like Him.

Continually Lord let me check my heart to see if there be any hidden thing in my life that would keep me from living out the commandments of your word.

  18. BUILD AN ALTAR TO GROW

There are seasons in life that heaps stones upon us. All too often we seek to modify the GOD chooses to build our life. However it appears here that the LORD our GOD has mandated that we do not modify the stones or foundation of the altar to the LORD.

My thought in meditating on this passage today is that too often we attempt to make our prayer time fit into our world by chipping away at its structure and stability. The LORD clearly said to not modify the stones or the foundation of the altar. We can’t make the altar fit into our lives. Altar means sacrifice, commitment and death. The altar was never intended to “fit in” or be “attractive” to the flesh.

Everything we bring to GOD should be whole; not partial, not half, but whole. Build an ALTAR with “whole stones”.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  19. 8 And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.
God wants his words and teachings to be very clear for all to understand. He wants his poeople to get into his word and understand it so that they can follow his ways. But more that anything He wants the word to be written upon the tables of our heart because if we hide the word in our heart we will not sin against God.

  20. 19 Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.

It had never been our place to judge, nor will it ever be

  21. 5 And there shalt thou build an altar unto the Lord thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.

6 Thou shalt build the altar of the Lord thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the Lord thy God

To have a true relationship with God we must first build an altar!

  22. Deu 27:5 And there shalt thou build an altar unto the LORD thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.

When building an alter, you can’t take the easy way out, using tools that just make ur alter look pretty and makes the structure crippled.

Deu 27:6 Thou shalt build the altar of the LORD thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD thy God:

Whole stones, not picture perfect bricks.

  23. 2. And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them with plaister:

  24. v 10 Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the LORD thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes , which I command thee this day.

Respond and obey HIS WORD. Our actions are the evidence of our faith.

  25. 18 Cursed be he that maketh the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Hallelujah!!! I read this and I saw the “blind” but not the physically blind but the spiritual blind.
18 “Cursed is anyone who leads the blind astray on the road.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” NIV
Don’t let the blind go astray but take them by the hand and lead them to Christ. I know I have reached many that will not come to Christ on the first invite but I still remember the words Pastor told the church last year. If they don’t come the 1st time invite them again, they might come the 3rd time, 5th time, or 10th time. Don’t let those people be blinded by the devil. Lets be soul winners!!!!

  26. Deuteronomy 27:8 (KJV Strong’s)
8 And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

Sometimes we need to revisit what our elders taught us. We came from a rich heritage of bible believing pioneers. They fought and forged their way through by the help of God. We live in the blessings of their labor.

Yet they wrote on some stones. Doctrines, convictions, and principles. We must never forget where we came from.

    Joshua 4:7 (KJV Strong’s)
7 Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

  27. 15 Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

There is a curse in the Hispanic population. So many people have completely sold out to graven images of virgins and “saints”. Walking miles on there knees waiting for miracles from a statute that has eyes but can not see, ears but can not hear, mouth but can not speak.

These people have lived in the curse long enough! So many cries for help unanswered and prayers not heard, if there was a time to stand and deliver a message of deliverance, it is now! We will break the curse of every individual and family bound by the spirit of idolatry.

    In Jesus Name!

  28. 8 And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

    Make it plain.

The law isn’t meant to be complicated. The word of God isn’t meant to be complicated. Truth is simple. It’s plain. It’s easy for everyone to understand. Why try to dress it up with complex words? Making a hard thing out of nothing? Let the truth speak for itself. Make it plain, keep it Simple.

  29. “And these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse; Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.” They would receive blessings if they obeyed the word of God (Jesus), and they would be cursed if they did not. Although it may appear it no longer matters, one can rest assured God (Judge) has not changed. Dear God, awaken us while we have breath enough for repentance. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  30. 5 And there shalt thou build an altar unto the Lord thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them. 6 Thou shalt build the altar of the Lord thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the Lord thy God.
They were to leave the stones whole, unaltered. It is far more important to obey what the Lord wants, then it is to do as self wants. God reveal so that we may comprehend and not alter, in Jesus name.

  31. The altar was to be made of uncut stone, a stone untainted by human hands. Perhaps only something made by God that hasn’t been changed is what was required.

  32. 10Then all the nations of the world will see that you are a people claimed by the LORD, and they will stand in awe of you.

Let all the people around you like friends, coworkers and relatives see God in you.

  33. And there shalt thou build an altar unto the Lord thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.

6 Thou shalt build the altar of the Lord thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the Lord thy God:

7 And thou shalt offer peace offerings, and shalt eat there, and rejoice before the Lord thy God.

  34. 1. AND Mo’-ses with the elders of Is’-ra-el commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day. 2. And it shall be, on the day when ye shall pass over Jor’-dan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them plaister: 3. And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee. Keep the Commandments !!!!

  35. Oh the value of writing things down. It is not just something that people say, it’s Biblical to write things down. Then people have to have it in a place where they can look back at it. If it is just written and lost, there was no reason for writing it.

  36. Deut. 27 : 9 ,10, Then Moses and the God, and observe His commandments and His statutes which I command you today. ” Praise ye the LORD !!!!
