Joshua 1

1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,

2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.

8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.

12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,

13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.

14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;

15 Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord’s servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.

17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the Lord thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.

  1. Be strong and of good courage

    Its Moving Day!!!

POFW our moving day is coming!! We cannot loose our focus. Change is good. God is wit us. We may be asked to do things we have never been asked to do before. Be strong and of good courage because we are on our way to the promised land!!

  2. iLove to Grow in the Word

Joshua 1:6-8 NLT “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. (7) Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. (8) Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

It was Joshua who was in the trenches when Moses went up the mountain with Aaron and Hur. They held up the hands of Moses, but Joshua was in the battle with sword drawn. We notice here, the successor of God’s people is the one who worked hardest…it was not the one politically closest in friendship with Moses.

    Work Hard
    Serve Hard
    Fight Hard
    Study Hard
    And be a leader.

  3. Verses 6-9 NLT “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Psalm 32:8 NLT says “The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”

The end of the chapter in the TLB says “….So lead on with courage and strength!” Let’s go POFW…..lead on to Westpoint.

  4. 6. Be strong and of a good courage…

    9. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

    18. …only be strong and of a good courage.

God never intended us to be a weak, fearful people; He is not a weak, fearful God. He has all power and we are His children, so when we call on His Name, His power works for us.

    2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

  5. 5 No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. (NLT)

My God never fails nor does He abandon – Hallelujah! Joshua goes on to speak…

9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (NLT)

Thank You Jesus! We have nothing to fear knowing He is always victorious and He is always with us. He commands that we be strong and courageous – Yes Sir!

  6. 6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.

GOD said be strong and very courageous when taking the promise He has given. That means it might not be obtained easily. You might have to fight for it. You might have to contend for your faith, contend for your promise. Abraham staggered not at the promises of GOD. Neither will I. I know the prophesy spoken over my life. I know what GOD said HE would do for our church. I will stagger not. HE said be of goooooood courage. HE will be with us. HE WILL NOT FAIL US!!!! Doesn’t that make you excited?!?! HE WILL NOT FORSAKE US!! Praise errupts from my lips! Praises be to the GOD of Israel!!!

  7. Happy for what we have, REJOICING FOR WHATS TO COME!!!!!!!

From Tarrant county to Dallas County, to Parker County, to Palo Pinto County, from Wise to Jack County all the way to the coast of San Diego California. In Jesus Name Amen

  8. Joshua 1:7-8 (NLT)
    7) Be strong and courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.
    8) Study this Book of Instructions continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

We must Read and Study the Word of God continually, everyday. We must Meditate on it day and night. (Think about it, roll it around in our minds, think about what God’s message is to us when we read it. What’s God saying to us.) And then Obey everything written in. When we do, we will prosper and be successful in everything we do.

  9. 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
so many people today are seeking success and prosperity but verse 8 is the true biblical example of success and that success is obtained by only doing the will of God and following after God’s word. If we really desire for God to be with us and for us to prosper we must do things God’s way then we will have the good success that verse 8 speaks of.

  10. TIME TO MOVE = TIME FOR TRANSITION

Change can be the most challenging word we use in our vocabulary. Change by nature creates fear of the unknown. Total obedience to GOD and HIS word should provide enough courage to do what the LORD has said. Joshua was charged by Moses to possess the land promised by GOD. He had been there before, however it had been years since he had walked that land as a spy. Now the historical, monumental task of taking possession of unfamiliar territory and lead millions of people on that journey.

Unwavering strength and tenatious courage by the Leader are required for the success of the transition.

As The Pentecostals of Fort Worth prepare for this momentous occasion we are poised to “Be STRONG and of a Good COURAGE”. We are equipped to accomplish this by observing, obeying and keeping the “LAW” the WORD of GOD.

The PROMISE is “Prosperity and Good Success”

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  11. Joshua 1:16-18 (Message)
16 They answered Joshua: “Everything you commanded us, we’ll do. Wherever you send us, we’ll go. 17 We obeyed Moses to the letter; we’ll also obey you—we just pray that God, your God, will be with you as he was with Moses. 18 Anyone who questions what you say and refuses to obey whatever you command him will be put to death. Strength! Courage!”

    Ecclesiastes 7:8 (NLT)
8 Finishing is better than starting.
    Patience is better than pride.

Looking back on this YOY would think that the Israelites were genuine. They said they would obey, be strong, and have courage. They stood behind and supported Joshua. Yet when the going got tough they walked away from God. As we will find out they do not keep their word.

Emotion will only take us so far. It isn’t how we start but how we finish that counts.

  12. Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

Even in times of stress and life occurances it’s very important to be of good cheer.

  13. “Whoever rebels against your command and does not heed your words, in all that you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and of good courage.””(Joshua‬ ‭1:18‬ ‭NKJV‬)

In all that thou commandest him, not repugnant to God’s commands; for none can be so foolish to think, that if he had commanded the people to blaspheme God, or worship idols, the people were obliged to obey him therein.

  14. 6 Be strong and of a good courage:

9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.

That is a powerful chapter. God is not a God of confusion or fear. Does that mean I shouldn’t fear God. NO, He is the one that I should fear and respect. My eternal life is in his hands, God determines where my rest shall be. I need to be strong and of a good courage to help His kingdom grow. Man what an awesome God we serve. I have power and courage in the name of Jesus…….. Thank you Jesus…. Amen!!!

  15. We are blessed and highly favored to have this wonderful new church God has given us. We should stay strong and true to our God and keep his word in our hearts and keep his commandments.

  16. 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
This scripture is so encouraging to me whenever I’m going thru something! Obey Gods words life will be a whole lot easier!!

  17. 6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

Thought for the night. Just remember these words as c we go through the tests and trials.

  18. 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

There are so many leadership books as well as self-improvement and self-motivation books…countless of the that teach froms to obetain sucess. However there us no greater Book or no greater words than the Word of God in our bibles. In it you find life and wisdom and treasure that will lead to wealth, spiritual or material, and success.

  19. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

Just as Jesus commanded Moses, just as Jesus commanded Joshua, He has commanded us too to take dominion over all this region.

  20. “Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying”. The word of God (Jesus) recorded Moses as his servant. One can never attain a hire honor than too be called “the servant of the Lord”. Dear God, help us as we strive to become your servant. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  21. “Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.” The Lord had made a promise, which the Lord kept his promise. The Lord has made other promise’s that can be ours if we will claim them, which they will also come to pass. God help us press forward like the children of Israel, in Jesus name.

  22. Succession plans

Moses had an assistant the whole time and was grooming him. After Moses left life, Joshua was able to pick up the task. Great leadership reproduces itself. We see this in Joshua.

  23. 7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.

  24. 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them.

The time comes for all of us to lead something. In ministry we must prepare ourselves by prayer, worship and daily reading of the word. You never know when Pastor will ask you to lead a ministry.

  25. my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

  26. 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Many of us in the church family have been through tough times in the months and weeks leading up to the moving to the new church we are about to move into. But the scripture encourages us to stay strong and be courageous for God is on our side.

If you are having a tough season, whether it be a day, an hour or a week, dive into the word of God, he has the answers for us. When we read his word we are spiritually strengthened and renewed. Let the word be your weapon against the attacks that are being thrown against you and your flesh that attempts to turn you away from the things of God

  27. True Success

“If you are faithful to God, you will get rich.” The message is prosperity and success comes in many different forms. Our Lord Jesus didn’t have a place to lay his head (Matt 8:20). The Lord of glory was born in a stable and worked as a common carpenter. He never made the list of the top ten wealthiest people of his day. Yet Jesus was both prosperous and successful. The apostle Paul traded position and power in the religious establishment of his day for beatings, sleepless nights for the utter joy of planting churches. He was both prosperous and successful it all depends on perspective. God’s promise to his people is that if they follow him and walk in faithfulness, he will bless them. This blessing can take many shapes. Sometimes it will mean the gain of money. Many biblical characters experienced this yet it is a much bigger picture than just dollars and cents. True success is found in a willing servant of God available and ready to do his work. They can be identified by their fruit and the successors they build up.

  28. 2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore ariseu, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give

Joshua is commanded to speak to his people
Regarding the move to the new land. He was asked to be brave and strong and God will be with him through it all . God is always with us..

  29. When God Speak these words in Joshua 1:9 Moses was dead, Everyone knew God had been with Moses in a mighty way, but now Joshua had taken his place. God knew that as the new leader of His people, Joshua would experience both apprehension and depression. So God told Joshua, “NO matter where you go, no matter what you experience, I will be with you . I will never leave you.” God gave a similar promise to the nation of Judah: When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you Ablaze. Isaiah 43:2

  30. 16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.

If the man of God isn’t present, I will listen to who ever is in charge because God will work through him just like Pastor Watts!

  31. 7. NLT Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Be successful !!!!

  32. “Life has always provided basis for everyday fear. Disease, financial ruin, war, physical violence, crime, and natural disasters are always constant, real threats. People seek to have thoughts that embody courage and self confidence. Joshua 1: 6-9 is one verse that provides some.
