Joshua 2

1 And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.

3 And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.

4 And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:

5 And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.

6 But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.

7 And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

8 And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;

9 And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.

10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

12 Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:

13 And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.

14 And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

16 And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.

17 And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.

18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.

19 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.

20 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

21 And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.

22 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.

23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:

24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

  1. 20 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

  2. In reading this chapter this morning, it made me think of believing beyond the circumstances. Rahab could have been panicked and been wrought with fear as she had explained to the spies that everyone was in that state because of the things that they had heard; but, instead there was something within her that brought forth a sense of trust and favor with these spies, enough to be willing to protect them.

Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG “Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.” Same verses AMP “Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart
And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. [a]In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].” JESUS today YOU will SAVE me.

  3. GOD AFFIRMS THROUGH HIS SERVANTS

24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

Trials and Tests are not a favorite for most people. However GOD uses this form of proving himself to us and us to him. Following the trial, affirmation and or revelation of the goodness, power and favor of GOD is revealed to us.

The word returned to Joshua was that the LORD had delivered A L L into their hands.

May GOD grant us this favor in this region.

  4. 11. No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the LORD your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below. NLT

When people hear of the many great things our God has done, they can’t help but know that He is the “supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below.”

  5. 11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

  6. Joshua 2:9-11 (NLT)
    9) I know the LORD has given you this land, she told them. We are all afraid of you. Everyone in the land is living in terror.
    10) For we have heard how the LORD made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed.
    11) No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the LORD your God is the supreme (highest in rank, power, and authority) God of the heavens above and the earth below.

The LORD Our God is SUPREME!
    He’s Omnipresent – everywhere
    He’s Omniscient – knows everything
    He’s Omnipotent – all-powerful

There’s No God Like Our God !!

  7. 11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

12 Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:

  8. 15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

Not only did he prepare away for them to get out of the land when they were pursued, but he also made a way for Rahab and her family to be saved when they overtook the land. God’s way had a two fold purpose.

God always makes a way, but it is not always in the manner we think because His thoughts and ways are higher than ours.

  9. 10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

What trust the spies had in a harlot. She knew of them and God, but wasn’t afraid of them. This is an awesome chapter. I can learn so much about trust and faith just in this one chapter. They went in to spy on Jericho and the harlot whose house they hid in could have easily turned them over to the guards, instead hid them from the guards.

Trust: a bold, confident, sure security or action based on that security.

This is where I have some difficulty, trusting 100% in God is very hard for me. though I strive to give it all to God, it is hard some times. God knows that I want to trust in him and knows that I struggle with this.

Trust: intellectual assent and trust. Intellectual assent is believing something to be true. Trust is actually relying on the fact that the something is true.

Heb 11:1 Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see.
Heb 11:2 It was their faith that made our ancestors pleasing to God.
Heb 11:3 Because of our faith, we know that the world was made at God’s command. We also know that what can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen.

To have faith, is to have trust. This is where I struggle. I have faith in God, but there is still that little bit where I have difficulty letting go. I love and respect the almighty. that’s it, faith and trust in the Lord comes with love and respect. Wow what a revelation………..Thank you Jesus……..Amen!!!!!

  10. 24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

The people are ready to be delivered.

We must not be intimidated by new Challenges and opportunities at the new building. With new territory comes new opportunities to show people how to be delivered from their sin. Thank God for the blood that washes white as snow.

  11. Trust and faith in God is so needed in this day and hour. He has shown his glory over and over. To live in victory we must live in his favor and die daily
to our flesh. I was taught over and over, to live for God hard is easy, to live for God easy is hard.

  12. iLove to Grow in the Word

Joshua 2:10-11 NLT For we have heard how the LORD made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed. (11) No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the LORD your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below.

Sometimes the things we go through in life is to actually make our testimony more powerful. God lead Israel through the red sea to amplify their faith, not to destroy them

  13. Joshua 2:10-11 (NLT)
10 For we have heard how the Lord made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed. 11 No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the Lord your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below.

Although she said that the people were afraid of them she understood the source of their power and ability was God. The people didn’t realize this but God was setting them up for success. All they had to do was submit, and follow. God knew that the battle with the Amorites was for his glory and would be heard in Jericho. He knew that one day Rahab would tell of how they were fearful.

We must trust God. He will lead us. The battles, struggles, and challenges that come may be the set up for the big victory.

  14. 2:11
There’s a great difference.between knowing God and knowing about him.

    A Prostitute named.Rahabe
Many people believe that Rahabe.maintained a small inn and one of the service offered was prostitution.
Rahabe reminds us that it is what we do that demonstrates the reality of our faith.

  15. 10 For we have heard how the Lord made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt.
(NLT)

Our testimonies have the same power to show others the power of God in how He has showed us grace and mercy, and in how He has saved us. Share the good news of how God has blessed you and saved you, others will hear, listen and see that He is the supreme God!

    • That right. Yes people are watch us it are job not to lead them the wrong way but lead them in the right way by doing what’s right
Doing what’s right even when no one is looking. Because even when it looks like someone is not watching .
      Someone is always watching.

  16. As the women hid the men that were to check out and she protected them, they in turn made sure her whole household was protected. When we look after the men of God in our lives, God will protect us and our household in return.

  17. 9 And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.

Someones when a situation happen in our lives, the thought has crossed our like Why would God fixed this problem? We often are guilty to have more faith in God fo r others but not ourselves. My God isn’t a partial God, its according to our faith. We can hinder our own blessings as well and delayed miracles that could have happened a lot sooner if we believe. God got a plan and he always fight our battles if we just ask him too!!

    My God can do anything!

  18. 24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.
God gave Joshua and the people of God complete and utter victory over their enemies what an amazing experience that before Joshua even came to possess the land people were running away and fearful in their hearts about the impending doom. That just goes to show the power the Majesty of God God is so awesome let God arise and his enemies be scattered!

  19. We are not alone. When we think we have come to the end of the road by ourselves, God has a way of escape for us. God will take care of his people.

  20. 23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:
24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

The people of this region know we have been sent to bring Jesus to this area. As we ready to move, the opposition is scared of want we might do for the kingdom of God. We need to continue to reach and watch what Jesus does.

  21. “And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.” The word of God (Jesus) gives all that will seek him the key. The fear of God will do the same today, to all the false gods and followers; if one will but pray. Dear God, help us to truly see and unite as the children of Israel did, in Jesus name. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  22. “And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.” They gave instruction to not go out, but to stay inside. The Lord has and will continue to do mighty works in his house, if one will but come inside. We must however be willing to open our hearts, and not go out the door into the street away from him. God help us open ourselves to you, in Jesus name.

  23. The dilemma of polarizing

Did rehab sin? She lied to save the lives of the spies. When we stick to unwavering absolutes we must say she lied. She should have told the truth; however, had she done that the spies would have died. She lied to save them. This story is evidence of the greater good. Life is to complex to be reduced to being black and white.

  24. 11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

  25. When the nation of Isreal begins to march toward a city, their enemies tremble in their sandals! They may be fearless and seasoned warriors, but their hearts melt with fear. Why? What is so different about Israel? The answer is simple. God is leading this nation. As Israel marches forward, the seas part, cities fall and miracles are performed. The people of the land realize that God is with these people. In a time when each people group believes in its own territorial God who rules the nation, they are confronted by a people whose God is the ” God in heaven above and earth below.” (vs 11). They might be able to stand up against a foreign army, but who can stand againtst the power of an almighty God?

  26. 9 And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.

The enemy know and he trembles!

Many things had happen to the people of Israel to this point. There sin and rebellion had gone up before the Lord many times and the had through many troubles because of it. What I impressed me the most is how the enemy did not hear about there trouble, but the miracles that had occurd.

You might go through a lot of trouble but God will exalt your victories before your adversary. They will hear of the path that the Lord has made for you, and will have been defeated before you even decide to cross there paths.

    You already have the victory!

  27. When we fight issue after issue or problem after problem on our without allowing God to intervene we end up in a danger zone. Many of us go through the same cycle time and time again but many don’t know how to cut the cycle off. Many don’t know how to turn their focus on to God. We must get God back as our centre of attention and not our flesh ways

  28. 9“I know the LORD has given you this land,” she told them. “We are all afraid of you. Everyone in the land is living in terror.

Even though Rahab was a sinner, she became a believer just by hearing what God was doing. Her faith in God save her life and family. She put her trust in God, we too must trust God with every aspect of our live.

  29. “So the men said to her: “We will be blameless of this oath of yours which you have made us swear,”(Joshua‬ ‭2:17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ )

We are blameless.” We must supply “unless you do what we shall now say unto you.” Comp. Genesis 24:41, “Then shalt thou be clear from this my oath, when thou comest to my kindred; and if they give not thee one, thou shalt be clear from my oath.” Wyclif renders it “we schulen be giltles of this oath.”

  30. 9 And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.

The enemy also fears…however the fear that they have is of complete distruction for he also knows the Lord and how great and mighty He is. We, whi have the honoring respect fear of God should also know how great and mighty is our God.

  31. 11. NLT No wonder our hearts have melted in fear ! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the LORD your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below. Thank you Jesus for courage !!!!
