Joshua 4

1 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the Lord spake unto Joshua, saying,

2 Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

3 And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.

4 Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:

5 And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of Jordan, and take you up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:

6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

7 Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

8 And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the Lord spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

9 And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.

10 For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until everything was finished that the Lord commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.

11 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the Lord passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

12 And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:

13 About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the Lord unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.

14 On that day the Lord magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

15 And the Lord spake unto Joshua, saying,

16 Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.

17 Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan.

18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.

19 And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.

20 And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.

21 And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

22 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.

  1. Remember when…..

I like to remember when GOD did all his miracles in the n bible, the red sea was parted, there were 3,000 filled w the Holy Ghost on the day of pentacost. And much more . If Jesus can do all those miracles he can do it for me and you. I know that this isn’t nothing new, but do we really believe. HE CAN AND WILL DO.

I LOVE THE lord. And sometimes i dont know what way to turn but to JESUS.

  2. 7 Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

  3. The memorial was built to remind them what God had done, and in case they happened to forget, at least their children would see and ask about it, helping them remember.

When we forget what God has done in the past, we are no longer thankful for it, and lose faith in what he can do, both now and in the future.

  4. iLove to Grow in the Word

Joshua 4:23-24 NLT For the LORD your God dried up the river right before your eyes, and He kept it dry until you were all across, just as He did at the Red Sea when He dried it up until we had all crossed over. (24) He did this so all the nations of the earth might know that the LORD’s hand is powerful, and so you might fear the LORD your God forever.”

The Lord desires to do miracles, signs, and wonders. Many times we have the mentality that it’s selfish to pray that God would use us to perform miracles. That is simply not true. God wants to do great miracles so that all the nations of the earth might know that He is God alone. We must get rid of the poverty mentality of missing out with God, and start believing that God will use us to do great miracles. All we have to do is be available like Joshua was available.

  5. Verses 23-24 MSG “Yes, God, your God, dried up the Jordan’s waters for you until you had crossed, just as God, your God, did at the Red Sea, which had dried up before us until we had crossed. This was so that everybody on earth would recognize how strong God’s rescuing hand is and so that you would hold God in solemn reverence always.” Same verses AMP “For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you crossed over, just as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed; so that all the peoples of the earth may know [without any doubt] and acknowledge that the hand of the Lord is mighty and extraordinarily powerful, so that you will fear the Lord your God [and obey and worship Him with profound awe and reverence] forever.” Jude 1:24-25 says “And now to him who can keep you on your feet, standing tall in his bright presence, fresh and celebrating—to our one God, our only Savior, through Jesus Christ, our Master, be glory, majesty, strength, and rule before all time, and now, and to the end of all time. Yes.”

  6. Stand Firm

3 And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where

    THE PRIESTS’ FEET STOOD FIRM

twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.

When God calls you to do something you can stand firm. We have to stand firm in our convictions. Stand firm in the doctrine. Stand firm when the waves of life are coming at you. Stand firm in the midst of your enemies. Stand firm against the adversary.

We are blessed to have a Pastor and his wife that are standing firm for us.

The children of Isreal following the priest into the river shows us how we should walk with God. When the priest goes before you and you are obedient to the man of God you can escape a lot of trouble or in this case waters. If you want to do it on your own then you go swimming.

    Stand Firm

  7. “On that day the Lord magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭4:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

There’s a time and place in Gods will when a man that pursues ministry and Gods will that he’ll get the anointing that God has for him. But it’s the waiting and submission that you would have to endure for years to get to that certain point.

Note to self: Be patient keep working and living for God. Your time is soon.

  8. 18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did befor.

It was the priest and the Levites that God choose to carry the ark. the priest a representation of our Pastor and the Levites whose name means “joint to” representing the elders and ministry team.

When we read this chapter with this in mind we see how important it is to pray for for the Watts and those working with him. As long as the priests feet stood in the middle of the Jordan lives could safely cross.

It is equally important for us to realize how dangerous it is to step out at the wrong time. If you try to cross the Jordan before the man of God you might drawn.

Interesting fact is the modern river is neither. In places it is more like a creek than a river — less than 10 metres across and 2 metres deep.

Don’t allow small things to drawn you because your out of place.

  9. 6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by theses stones?

Our testimony of where we came from and how God has delivered and helped us may uplift others.

  10. THE FLOW OF LIFE CHANGES WITHOUT THE PRESENCE OF GOD

18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.

The raging Jordan river was held at bay and stood in place as the peace of GOD ruled its fierce potential. GOD revealed his supernatural power to another generation. The children of Israel in coming out of Egypt witnessed GOD use a rod and a man of GOD to demonstrate FAITH as HE split the Red Sea and they walked across on dry ground. Now in another step of the journey, the children of Israel step across to their promised land in like fashion. GOD uses a box and a man of GOD to demonstrate FAITH to cross over a raging situation on dry ground.

What caught my attention today is the fact of when the priests came up with the ark, chaos returned to the water. Suggesting to me that when the presence of GOD and the man of GOD are not present in our lives, chaos surrounds.

I am not saying that we will not have trouble in living an obedient life for and with GOD. I am saying that without the supernatural influence of GOD and a Pastor we subject ourselves to greater chaos. No, I am not saying that a preacher must be with you 24/7. However I do believe that the WORD of GOD and the instructions of the man of GOD should forever guide us.

People may appear to have life in control without GOD and submitting to a Pastor. However, chaos will eventually show itself, we can only hide it for a short season.

  11. 23 For the Lord your God dried up the river right before your eyes, and he kept it dry until you were all across, just as he did at the Red Sea when he dried it up until we had all crossed over.
24 He did this so all the nations of the earth might know that the Lord’s hand is powerful, and so you might fear the Lord your God forever.” (NLT)

My God is so awesome! Never forget where He brought you from or how He’s blessed you. Jesus, You will forever be worthy of my praise!

  12. 18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.

  13. Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “In the future your children will ask, ‘What do these stones mean?’ Then you can tell them, ‘This is where the Israelites crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’

Having “memorials” is what has helped in keeping the Apostolic standard.
When doubt tries to creep in, I rush to one of the memorials, so that I can mediate on it. There is where my memorials become greater and doubt was less and less prevalent in my life. When my children have questions I take them back to the memorials of how GOD brought us out ……..
GOD IS GOOD!!! THANK YOU DADDY!!! HALELUJAH!!!

  14. Signs Of Victory
“….that this may be a sign among you when your children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you? ‘ Then you shall answer them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.”
    Joshua 4:6-7

Although God worked a miracle to allow the people to cross the Jordan on dry ground, Joshua wanted to communicate God’s greatness to the children of Israel yet to be born. To accomplish his goal, Joshua devised a plan called “Stones of Remembrance.”
He directed that twelve stones be taken from the middle of the dry riverbed—one for each of the Twelve Tribes who crossed the river—and be piled in a monument on shore. The stones served as “handles” to communicate what God had done.

Psalm 103:2 Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

  15. 6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

7 Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

The stones were used as a memorial of what God had done for the Israelites so that they would never forget and they could pass the history of this miracle down to their children.

Too often we forget what God has done for us, when He uses the things He has done for us in our past to help build our faith for what He is going to do in our future.

  16. Joshua 4:6-7 (NLT)
    6) We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, What do these stones mean?
    7) Then you can tell them, They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant went across. These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever.

As a parent and Sunday School teacher, one things for sure, children ask lots of questions. This is an opportunity to teach them about the great things God has done. It’s an opportunity to teach them to have faith in God, that if God did great things for me and others, He will do great things for them.
So don’t let the works of God and the great things He has done be forgotten among the next generation, but teach them to the children.

  17. 5 And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of Jordan, and take you up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:

The stones were set up to be a memorial of what God had done for the Israelites. But before future generations could see them the stones had to picked and carried. The stones were a burden upon the shoulders of men. God could have just snapped his fingers and 12 stones appear and direction given for the Israelites to tell their children about it, but instead God chose for the men to work. If the generations to come were to know about God then they would ask about the burden of the stones and what they meant.

God does amazing things through people. The elders who came before us set many things in motion following God. They set up standards, raised awareness of true doctrine, preached the gospel, and so on. The burden was carried on their shoulders. We know about the great things God has done in the past because of the burdens carried on our elders shoulders. The next generation will not know of the great things God does for us today if we avoid carrying the burden. It’s in the carrying of the burden of the Gospel that truth continues.

  18. 21 And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

22 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:
God got all the children of Israel to rejoice in the victories that he had given them and not just to rejoice in them but to tell their children about what God had done and testify to them about the goodness of God. In like manner today we should be grateful for all the victories God has given us and whenever possible we must share that with our children so that we can let them know how Great and Mighty and awesome God is and in doing so we position and prepare their lives to see Victorious miracles when they are older.

  19. 20 And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.

Jesus I’ll NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU DONE FOR ME!

  20. 16 Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.

I let my testimony lift me up, as should each of us. Our testimony can help somebody that may be seeking God. Don’t hesitate to share what God has done for you (me). There just very well may be that one soul you (me) win over. Our God is awesome and I love to grow in His word and in Him. Let God’s light shine through you (me). Seek out the ones that God has called unto Him.

Testimony: to tell, attest to, or give witness to his or her personal knowledge or experience.

There it is, when witnessing to others give them an account of your (my) life experience. Let them know where God has brought you (me) from and where He is leading you (me) too……..Thank you Jesus…..Amen!!!!

  21. 24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.

Everyone has a story and a testimony. Let it be a memorial and not forget what the Lord has done for us but share it that people may know and fear honor and respect our God. What a mighty God we serve!!

  22. 23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.

I won’t stop until the whole world knows that you are a great God!!

  23. 24 This was so that everybody on earth would recognize how strong God’s rescuing hand is and so that you would hold God in solemn reverence always.” MSG

  24. 6We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’

This reminds of the bibles being inserted into the ground of our new church. They will serve as a memorial and reminders of the new church foundation in God!

  25. 24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.

We need to reach the people of Fort Worth and show them what a mighty God there is!!

  26. 23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.

Fear the Lord for the great things that He can do. Things that sometimes we can’t even imagine. When you read His Word and read everything, sometimes to us its so unreal of all the great things God did because we haven’t seen them. However His Word says it’s impossible to please God without faith. Just believe and trust in the mighty powerful God Lord Jesus Christi!!!

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrews 11:6

  27. 24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.

We must tell those we can about the miracles happening every week at POFW so this community may know the Lord God is still at work in,our midst today. Salvation via the new birth experience is the greatest miracle of all. Thankful for 60 children receiving the Holy Ghost or being refilled during our Children’s Revival! Tell someone…

  28. Joshua 4:21 (NLT)
21 Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “In the future your children will ask, ‘What do these stones mean?’

What kind of stones do you have for YOUR children?

We all have amazing testimonies of God’s miraculous power in our lives. We have seen the Lord heal, save, and deliver. We benefit from the memory of these supernatural blessings.

But if we do not tell our children about our stones then they will never hear about it.
By telling them we increase their faith and make God even more real in their minds.

  29. 16 Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.

    How heavy is your testimony?

We must bare our testimony. What was it that God brought you out of? We all have a testimony some heavier than others. But none the less important and impactful. Take up your burden and testimony and let’s go to our promise land. It is time to move forward. Grow and be blessed

  30. Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “In the future your children will ask, ‘What do these stones mean?’
    Joshua 4:21 NLT
    http://bible.com/116/jos.4.21.NLT

As parents and leaders it is our responsibility to teach our children who God is and what God has done in our lives and homes. We must be ready to also show them the rock that is our foundation because if we dont the world will teach them something different and everthing will be lost.

  31. 24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for

Why is it so hard for us to realize the mighty thing god has done.

We see it with our eye yet we find it hard. To believe if god can do it for them he will do the same thing to you

  32. 3 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.

God dried up the waters for the Israelites so they can cross over the red sea.
You may say God never done a miracle like that in your life. My God has done all kinds of miracles in my life and people that I know. We all have our own testimony rejoice with others you time will come for your blessing too! Hallelujah!

  33. 2 Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

3 And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.

Just because God brings us out of something it doesn’t mean what we won’t have reminders of what happened. He can take the remnants of what would have been our defeat and in turn transform it into a memorial of victory.

  34. 22 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

Sharing our testimony with our children is vital to their growth and development of their relationship with God. The healthy relationship with God should always be modeled by the parents and other elders in the children’s lives.

  35. 5 And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of Jordan, and take you up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:

6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

7 Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

Our lived should be full of memorials to God for the great things he had done so when the next generation sees and asks we will be able to tell the great works of God

  36. 23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over: 24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.

The one and only true God (Jesus) showed his might, once again. One should always be mindful that it is God (Creator) that has all power, to do as he will and when he will. Dear God, let us never forget to reverence you. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  37. “Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.” The Lord and what he has done is to be taught. Children are tomorrow’s future, and what they are taught or not taught will be what tomorrow will bring. God help us comprehend the impact, in Jesus name.

  38. God knows how to work miracles when ot seems impossible. If we can trust in God with all of our heart, he will bring us through.

  39. When God does a mighty work, the Isrealites leave a memorial in the very place where God acted on their behalf. Often they set a pile of stones as a reminder. The Isrealites cross the Jordan on dry land, a great miracle of God. They enter the land without so much as a wet sandal. And then God says, “Don’t ever forget this moment!” Pile up 12 stones as a perpetual reminder of this day.” Every time a family passed by this spot, they tell the story again! We are living, walking, talking memorials full of testimonies God has delivered out of sin. We can become a generation that builds memorials in our lives that point others back to those moments when God moved in the miraculous. We need to tell the stories again and again so that we never forget the things God has done for us.

  40. 22 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

    Who’s gonna teach the children?

Well according to this verse, we’re supposed to. Then why do we blame the Sunday school teacher or the public school teacher? Class is in session from the moment they wake to the moment they sleep.

    Children need parents to parent!

  41. 17 Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan.

18 And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.

Many times we as humans tend to get in a hurry, and don’t await instructions. Could you imagine what the outcome would have been if the priests had gotten in a hurry and left the river before it was time me to? What do you and I rush today ?

  42. “And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal. And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones? Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭4:20-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Memories

Memories fade as things get farther away. The people with Joshua had stones to help them remember what happened. Those that traveled with noses had sights and sounds. They did not remember well because three days into the wilderness after watching the Lord provide for their escape, there they were complaining again. Let us not think that we are better than the Israelites. Both of us need reminders of the graciousness of God to remind us that he can handle every situation and sircumstance.

  43. In Iraq, there were stacks of stones set up in different places of the desert. In this chapter, 12 stones are set up for a memorial. It is interesting how the custom of stacking stones is still used almost 3200 years later.

  44. 21 And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

We need to teach our children the word of God and show them what the commandments and other laws of God mean so they can apply it and teach their friends the word of God

  45. 23. For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jor’-dan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over: 24. That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever. KJV Nothing is impossible with you LORD !!!!
