Joshua 11

1 And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor had heard those things, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

2 And to the kings that were on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west,

3 And to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.

4 And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.

5 And when all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.

6 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

7 So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.

8 And the Lord delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephothmaim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

9 And Joshua did unto them as the Lord bade him: he houghed their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

10 And Joshua at that time turned back, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.

11 And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them: there was not any left to breathe: and he burnt Hazor with fire.

12 And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the Lord commanded.

13 But as for the cities that stood still in their strength, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn.

14 And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any to breathe.

15 As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

16 So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;

17 Even from the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baalgad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and slew them.

18 Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

19 There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all other they took in battle.

20 For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the Lord commanded Moses.

21 And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities.

22 There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained.

23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

  1. 6 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

7 So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.

“As the LORD had commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua. And Joshua did as he was told, carefully obeying all the commands that the LORD had given to Moses. So Joshua conquered the entire region—

When we the people of God catch the vision of the man of God, we will conquer the entire region of Fort Worth. The challenge for all of us is “carefully obeying all the commands.” Help us Lord to realize the power of unity.

  3. 15 As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

We should listen to the man of God That the Lord has placed in our lives and follow his advice and counsel.

  4. When things seem to be mounting in number against you; remember that my God can make a way where there seems to be no way. Jesus will fight my battles and direct my path to peace (rest). Verse 23 AMP says “So Joshua took the whole land [of Canaan], according to all that the Lord had spoken to Moses, and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. So the land had rest from war.” Same verse in MSG “Joshua took the whole region. He did everything that God had told Moses. Then he parceled it out as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribes. And Israel had rest from war.” Let’s take this whole region POFW with obedience to everything that God has commanded us to do.

  5. 9. And Joshua did unto them as the Lord bade him: he houghed their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

It would have been very easy to keep all of those horses and chariots, with the excuse that they needed them to battle against their enemies. However, they were trusting not in what they had to fight with, but in Who was with them in battle.

    Psalm 20:7
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

  6. 4 All these kings came out to fight. Their combined armies formed a vast horde. And with all their horses and chariots, they covered the landscape like the sand on the seashore.

What a sight that would have been for Joshua. Seeing such a large army from the combined forces of kings, this could have easily intimidated Israel. But with Joshua out in front and God leading the way, it did not matter.

I can hear Joshua speaking to Israel, “don’t be afraid, this will be our greatest victory to date, God is on our side, no one can defeat us, we have the victory, now let me hear your WAR CRY!”

  7. When it comes to evil, in your life, in your home, or in your family; the only effective way is to destroy it ALL!!!!!!!!!

6 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

9 And Joshua did unto them as the Lord bade him: he houghed their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

14 And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any to breathe.

    16 So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;

17 Even from the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baalgad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and slew them.

Nothing says it better than Matt 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Isaiah 10:27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

We need to make sure than when God says DESTROY, we destroy. Don’t leave parts that can be glued and put together again. Do not leave any possibility for that kingdom to restructure itself in your life. We need the make sure we kill and destroy any evil in our lives by God. He will go before us for He is fighting for us, in Jesus Name Amen.

  8. “Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them. By this time tomorrow I will hand all of them over to Israel as dead men. Then you must cripple their horses and burn their chariots.””
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭11:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The Word of the Lord brings so much comfort and assurance. It may not always be what we want to hear but it is still comforting to know that the Lord is speaking to us and direct us.

  9. 15 Just as God commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua did it. He didn’t leave incomplete one thing that God had commanded Moses.

  10. 6 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them. By this time tomorrow I will hand all of them over to Israel as dead men. Then you must cripple their horses and burn their chariots.” (NLT)

We see the Lord is still giving victory to Joshua and Israel because of their obedience; we too have nothing to fear as long as we are obedient.

  11. VICTORY THROUGH SERVING ANOTHER MANS VISION

15 As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.
    16 So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;

The LORD commanded Moses, but Joshua did it. We can learn from this passage that we can be and are in the will of GOD when we serve GOD through another man of GOD. The carnal mind would say that I am a man also and hear from GOD. I will never despite that every born again believer should hear from GOD. You may have a dream, but has GOD given you the position to fulfill that VISION?

I have yet to read that Joshua ever had any other vision, mission or dream other than the children of Israel possessing the promise land. Joshua believed GOD and believed in his leader Moses. What a powerful victorious combination, believing in GOD and trusting in Moses.

Lets join hearts and mission today to possess the land that JESUS has given us.

It doesnt indicate that we are weak or visionless if we serve another mans vision. It does however indicate that we are proud and arrogant if we will not serve another mans vision.

  12. All these kings came out to fight. Their combined armies formed a vast horde. And with all their horses and chariots, they covered the landscape like the sand on the seashore. The kings joined forces and established their camp around the water near Merom to fight against Israel.

MIGHTY IS OUR GOD!!! Even with all of the other kings and there armies gathered against Israel, ISRAEL DEFEATED THEM!!! MY GOD IS FAITHFUL!!! HALELUJAH!!!

  13. 20 For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the Lord commanded Moses.
23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
it’s amazing to me that God brought up the enemies of his people Just for the purpose of defeating them and overcoming them. It makes me wonder if sometimes the struggles in the trials that we face and if sometimes the enemy that we battle with are simply there so that God can give us the victory over them and destroy the trials and tribulations in our life! God truly has a purpose for everything and his victory are to be victorious!

  14. 23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

Joshua and the Israelites took the land just like the Lord had promised them. They had the favor of the Lord upon them and they were obedient to the instructions given. Joshua would not have been able to take the land and be victorious without the Israelite team assisting him. It took the entire team working together in “unity” carrying out the commandments of the Lord.

  15. Joshua’s faithfulness to the Lord’s will and Moses’ directions is constantly underscored (vv .12,20,23).Joshua’s own farewell testimony empasizes the faithfulness and goodness of God…..

    Assurance of God’s Presence
Deuteronomy 31:7,8 And Moses called unto Joshua and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the Lord hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it. 8.And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

  16. Joshua 11:20 For it was the Lord himself who Harden their hearts to wage war against Israel so that he might destroy them totally Exterminating them without Mercy as the Lord had commanded Moses. At that time Joshua went and destroy the Anakies from the Hill Country from the Hebron Debir and Anab from all the hill country of Judah and from all the Hill Country of Israel. Joshua totally destroyed them and their towns. No Anakites were left in Israel territory only in Gaza Gather and Ashdod did any survive. So Joshua took the entire land just as the Lord had directed Moses and he gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. Then the land had rest from war.

  17. 20 For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the Lord commanded Moses.

And the land rested from war

Sometimes God will send test and trials your way, only to bring you victory, and help our spirit of doubt and prove just how great of a God he is!

  18. 23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

It seems like we are in a constant battle, with our mind, with the flesh, I hate to say that the devil made me do it, it’s that old dumb devil, to me that’s just me blaming someone else for my circumstances, I’m battling because I have flesh, and so I’m constantly battling to stay away from doing things that satisfy the flesh, I can’t blame something that has no power! So I put my trust in Jesus and he has all the power, and in doing that, I get rest from this battle.

  19. 15 As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

    16 So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;

As the Lord commands Pastor; He so commands us (me). It’s verse 15 we have a move coming up very quickly. As the Lord instructed Moses, He in turn instructed Joshua. l feel that we are moving into the land that was promised and there will be a great revival. God is so awesome. I will follow the word of God and as my Pastor commands me so shall I do unto the glory of God……Thank you Jesus….Amen!!!

  20. 20 For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the Lord commanded Moses.

  21. 6 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

Something to take note of is that just because one has arribed at the promiseland does not mean that it is all glory now. First we saw thourgh several chapters now that the enemies come in like a flood and gather themsleves to battle against the people of God. The enemy hates the people of God so much even though he knows he is defeated. He still will try anything in his power to hurt and discourage some to try and make them quit before settling in. It is up to our willingness and obedience to the Lord and obey the man of God directing the army that we will get victory over the challenges/battles that might show up. Everytime there is a battle there was a specific instruction given.

  22. 21 And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities.

  23. 15 As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

    16 So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;

Do what your told to do. That simple.

  24. 4 And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.

  25. 6 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

  26. 23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

    Battles don’t last forever.

  27. 6 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

8 And the Lord delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephothmaim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

The lord will not forsake us

  28. Joshua 11:4-8 (NLT)
    4) All these kings came out to fight. Their combined armies formed a vast horde. And with all their horses and chariots, they covered the landscape like the sand on the seashore.
    5) The kings joined forces and established their camp around the water near Merom to fight against Israel.
    6) Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them. By this time tomorrow I will hand all of them over to Israel as dead men. Then you must cripple their horses and burn their chariots.”
    7) So Joshua and all his fighting men traveled to the water near Merom and attacked suddenly.
    8) And the LORD gave them victory over their enemies. The Israelites chased them as far as Greater Sidon and Misrephoth-maim, and eastward into the valley of Mizpah, until not one enemy warrior was left alive.

This made me think of Isaiah 59:19b, “… When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall left up a standard against him.”

No matter how big the enemy may seem, Our God is BIGGER! STRONGER! POWERFUL! MIGHTIER!

  29. 11-1
Hazor was ten times the size of any Canaanit city of the era 175 acres and protected by great walls .
    11-1
    Total obedience brought total victory

Don’t expect to win victories fast or without effort. But do expect victory.

  30. And Isreal had rest from war. Joshua did not leave anything undone that God had told Moses. Joshua took the whole region. We can defeat the enemy we can be
Victorious. We can take the whole region in Jesus name.

  31. 15 As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

    16 So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;

When a job was to be done it was done In Jesus Name

  32. NLT 6. Then the LORD said to Joshua, ” So not be afraid of them. By this time tomorrow I will hand all of them over to Israel as dead men. Then you must cripple their horses and burn their chariots.” 9. Then Joshua crippled the horses and burned all the chariots, as the Lord had instructed. Praise the LORD in all things !!!!

  33. 15 As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

Great battles turned into great victories because Joshua obeyed all that Moses commanded him to do. Joshua honored the man of God over him, who mentored and trained him, even though Moses had already passed away. The commands given to him were from the Lord and nothing had changed in their plan & purpose in taking this promised land.

  34. v23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said unto Moses : and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

Just as GOD PROMISED ,HE gave them the land.
We must remain faithful and obedient to GOD’S WORD.

  35. “So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them”. The word of God (Jesus) let’s all know that Joshua trusted in God (Creator) and also that he was not a coward. Joshua was victorious because he first obeyed God, led by example, and then Israel was triumphant. Dear God let us never forget that adherence to you and your will, is what truly matters. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  36. “So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.” There is a time for all things, as is written here. The children of Israel needed a time of rest, which the Lord made a way. God help us see the importance of balance, in Jesus name.

  37. The Lord blessed Joshua because he obeyed the instructions from God. Our blessings can come when we learn how to follow every instruction feom God. When fulfilling a plan from God, that is not the time to detour from what God has said. Obey every word of God to receive the full promise of God.

  38. As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

Follow the vision. Finish the vision!

  39. Communication is Key

15 As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

Moses must have been a great communicator and Joshua a even greater listener. I do not say this as being the greatest at communicator or listener but as a student. I’ve been praying that God would teach me how to communicate His Word and the things I’ve learned through my short years of living to those around me. So this verse really stuck out for me.

I can see Moses talking with Joshua telling him the vision and Joshua had to have a teachable spirit and ready to obey every command. Joshua confident in God because of the many victories he had already experienced was a man of war and understood submission but he also understood the weariness of battle. This made Joshua great!

I would think that in Moses instructions he would give Joshua vision and instructions on overcoming the spiritually battles Joshua would fight internally and Joshua a men of war would take his natural experiences in war and apply those principles to the spirit. For regardless of how great we believe Joshua and Moses was they both had to overcome self.

    • Moses faught his “self”-confidence at the beginning of his ministry and “self”-control at the ending of his ministry which cause him to disobey God and not lead the people into the promise land.

I do not recall Joshua speaking one ill word about Moses even though he would have known Moses faults.

  40. 23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
We will find our rest up in heaven when we listen to the Lord. It’s really easy especially now moving in into the new building to get distracted. At the new building we are going to need double everything. We can’t just expect to go to a bigger building and not grow. We need to step up and be that help and difference for the Lord.

  41. Joshua understands both the power of God for victory and military strategy. Why, then, does he cripple the captive horses and burn all the chariots? These were the armored vehicles of their day, powerful weapons for future battles. Yet Joshua destroys them. This is not an issue of cruelty to animals, nor a sign that he has made a poor military decision. Joshua is simply doing as he is ordered of the Lord even if it may not make much sense. Why would God call Joshua to this drastic action? The answer is found in one of David’s psalms: “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” (Ps 20:7). The core issue is trust. Will Joshua and his army place their trust in advanced military weapons or on their God? They display their trust in God here obeying him because they know the One who makes them victorious. Not by might, nor by power but by His Spirit comes victory.

  42. 15 As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.

Now this is knowing that you are doing Gods will when your following your pastors advise even when it doesn’t line up to your will.

I know that my pastor is man under authority. That places me under the same covering and flow of anointing because I same also submitted.

  43. “And the Lord said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them. And the Lord delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth–maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭11:6-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

When Joshua heard from God he did what the Lord told him. His obedience allowed his victory. We must be quick to obedience to ensure our quick victory. If we are not quick to obey we might have a result more like Moses than Joshua. We could be wondering in a wilderness for a lifetime instead of walking in victory.
