Joshua 13

1 Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.

2 This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines, and all Geshuri,

3 From Sihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the borders of Ekron northward, which is counted to the Canaanite: five lords of the Philistines; the Gazathites, and the Ashdothites, the Eshkalonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avites:

4 From the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that is beside the Sidonians unto Aphek, to the borders of the Amorites:

5 And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baalgad under mount Hermon unto the entering into Hamath.

6 All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephothmaim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

7 Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh,

8 With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of the Lord gave them;

9 From Aroer, that is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon;

10 And all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon;

11 And Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salcah;

12 All the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants: for these did Moses smite, and cast them out.

13 Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.

14 Only unto the tribes of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the Lord God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as he said unto them.

15 And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben inheritance according to their families.

16 And their coast was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain by Medeba;

17 Heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamothbaal, and Bethbaalmeon,

18 And Jahaza, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

19 And Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zarethshahar in the mount of the valley,

20 And Bethpeor, and Ashdothpisgah, and Bethjeshimoth,

21 And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, which were dukes of Sihon, dwelling in the country.

22 Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among them that were slain by them.

23 And the border of the children of Reuben was Jordan, and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben after their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

24 And Moses gave inheritance unto the tribe of Gad, even unto the children of Gad according to their families.

25 And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah;

26 And from Heshbon unto Ramathmizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir;

27 And in the valley, Betharam, and Bethnimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, Jordan and his border, even unto the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side Jordan eastward.

28 This is the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages.

29 And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of Manasseh: and this was the possession of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by their families.

30 And their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities:

31 And half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were pertaining unto the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even to the one half of the children of Machir by their families.

32 These are the countries which Moses did distribute for inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side Jordan, by Jericho, eastward.

33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.

  1. To inherit land from God who gave Moses the authority to give it to other tribes he must have trusted him to distribute it.

  2. The story of Moses….

    I love this chapter. It talked about all the things that Moses did for the people of God. He was a deliverer of the inheritance that the people was given.
    God loves us so much that He will send a man of God to deliver an inheritance to us in a timely manner.

    The church that is being built for the kingdom of God is an inheritance to the pentacostal of fortworth.

    Lots of prayer working in the fields for the harvest pays off.

    I pray that soon and very soon I can be there soon to see the inheritance for myself. I see pictures of the church on Facebook. It’s beautiful.
    I am tired of staying out of church but there is not many that worship Jesus by the truth which is filled by the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues and being baptized in Jesus name.
    Bless Pofw.

  3. Verse 1 TLB “Joshua was now an old man. “You are growing old,” the Lord said to him, “and there are still many nations to be conquered.” This verse spoke to me about not letting our thinking become or “get old”. Now is not the time to slow down or stop; but, it’s the time to dig down even deeper and conquer/claim what God has already given to POFW as verses 6-7 MSG says “I myself will drive them out before the People of Israel. All you have to do is allot this land to Israel as an inheritance, as I have instructed you. Do it now: Allot this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.” By faith in Jesus name. We don’t have to worry about the “how” or “when” for the Lord knows as verse 33 in the CEV says “But Moses did not give any land to the Levi tribe, because the Lord had promised that he would always provide for them.” God my Provider……Jehovah Jireh!

  4. 33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.

    When you’re not getting blessed the way others may be., you need to take a step back and look at where the LORD has you. You’re not going to be in the same place as others.

  5. God wants to make sure everyone gets the land that was promised to them; except for the Levi, they get God and that is more than enough.

    13 Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.

    God had told them from the start to get them all out and destroy them so they can posses the Land. I wonder if they still regret allowing them to remain in their land today.

    Lord help us carry out all your instructions exactly as you ask of us and allow us to walk and claim the promise land by Your Name In Jesus Name Amen

  6. 1. Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.

    6. All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

    God knows our abilities and limitations, and doesn’t ask us to do more than we are able, but always has a plan for everyone who is willing to do something. When we do what we can, He will do what we can’t.

  7. 1 Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.

    2 This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines, and all Geshuri,

    7 Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh,

    There was still work to be done, God knew Joshua was getting old, but he still had a job to do!

  8. 6 …“I myself will drive these people out of the land ahead of the Israelites. So be sure to give this land to Israel as a special possession, just as I have commanded you. (NLT)

    The Lord goes before us and fights for us. He is so good; He supplies all our needs. All we have to do is obey His word.

  9. 6-7 “I myself will drive them out before the People of Israel. All you have to do is allot this land to Israel as an inheritance, as I have instructed you. Do it now: Allot this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.” (MSG)

  10. Now Joshua was old, but he had a lot to yet to do. He still needed to divide the land among the remaining tribes, establish cities of refuge and to see that each tribe gave of their suburbs to the Levites. Joshua does receive a city of his choice in coming chapters and he goes and builds it for him self. God knows our situation and helps us finish the work he assigns to us! He is our provider in all stages and circumstances of life.

  11. “When Joshua was an old man, the LORD said to him, “You are growing old, and much land remains to be conquered.

    and the larger territory of the Canaanites, extending from the stream of Shihor on the border of Egypt, northward to the boundary of Ekron. It includes the territory of the five Philistine rulers of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron. The land of the Avvites in the south also remains to be conquered. In the north, the following area has not yet been conquered: all the land of the Canaanites, including Mearah (which belongs to the Sidonians), stretching northward to Aphek on the border of the Amorites; the land of the Gebalites and all of the Lebanon mountain area to the east, from Baal-gad below Mount Hermon to Lebo-hamath; and all the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim, including all the land of the Sidonians. “I myself will drive these people out of the land ahead of the Israelites. So be sure to give this land to Israel as a special possession, just as I have commanded you. Include all this territory as Israel’s possession when you divide this land among the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.””
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭13:1, 3-7‬ ‭NLT

    This passage of scripture demonstrates great leadership. The Israelites had already experience great victories and it would have been easy for them to lay back in their success but they did not stay in past victories their focus remained on victories to come. They did not settle for mediocrity.

  12. WE MUST GROW NOW

    1 Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.

    The call of GOD for HIS mission is always larger than the production of 1 man or 1 generation. Moses called and commissioned, Joshua did all that the LORD spoke to Moses, now the LORD is calling him old.

    GOD is not a man that he can lie. Reality is often what slaps us. Joshua must now face the reality of his part and role in the process. Moses brought the children of Israel out of Egypt. Joshua has now taken them into Canaan. Joshua must now prepare others for possession.

    Spiritual victory is not a 1 man or 1 family show. To assume possession of all the LORD has promised will be a unified effort. It is time POFW lets unite our faith, finances and families to take possession of the the physical and spiritual promises GOD has established for this region.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  13. Joshua 13:6 As the inheritance of the mountain region from Lebanon to Misrephoth maim that is all the Sidonians, I myself will drive them out before the Israelites. Be sure to allocate this land to Israel for an inheritance as I have instructed you and divide it as an inheritance among the nine tribes and half of the tribe of Manasseh.

    When we are old and weak in flesh just remember God can still fight your battles as he did in Joshua 13:6 he said I myself will drive them out before the Israelite we serve a mighty God a God of understanding a God of power and of love. There is nothing that he cannot do be encouraged today and know that God is on our side whatever we do wherever we go just remember to take god with you.

  14. But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.
    Some may look at the Levites and feel that it is unfortunate that they did not receive an inheritance. But truly they received the greatest inheritance of all by being able to serve live and Be given provisions by the house of God and God himself. While some may never have Earthly possessions or inheritance we all have a share in the inheritance of the Levites because we all are able to have a relationship with God. That’s the greatest inheritance of all.

  15. 13 Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.

    They still carried some of that disobedient spirit that they left Egypt with. And it’s still costing them today for what this generation did not do.

  16. 33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.

    I know in our culture families give their inheritance that they have gathered over their life to their children at the time of the death, or some even before they die to ensure it’s divided like they desire. But what greater inheritance could we pass on to the next generation than the inheritance of truth and teaching our children to live and walk in a relationship with God by example?

  17. Joshua 13:1-2 & 6
    1) NOW Joshua was old and stricken in years: and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land ti be possessed.
    2) This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines, and all Geshuri,
    …………………
    6) All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

    I find it interesting that the LORD is telling Joshua to take the unconquered land and to divide it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance. This reminded me of the scripture in Romans 4:17b that says, “…. and called those things which be not as though they were.” (Speak in FAITH)

    The time is NOW to Speak MORE in Faith and GROW the kingdom of God!

  18. The Lord takes care of all his children, which is evident on the places he gave to each tribe of Israel when he gave them the inheritance of the land.

  19. 6 All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephothmaim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

    7 Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh

  20. 33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.

    I wasn’t sure what to write. But. I as i read this verse 5 time this came to me be still and wait on the lord. He will take care of you

  21. 14 Moses did not assign any allotment of land to the tribe of Levi. Instead, as the LORD had promised them, their allotment came from the offerings burned on the altar to the LORD, the God of Israel.

    Even though the Levites did not receive any land, the Lord kept them in mind and would bless them. I’m sure the Levites were blessed greatly in many ways. God will bless us in ways that we least expect.

  22. 6 All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephothmaim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

    7 Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh,

  23. Joshua 13:33 (NLT)
    33 But Moses gave no allotment of land to the tribe of Levi, for the Lord, the God of Israel, had promised that he himself would be their allotment.

    This is not to be read as a negative, but rather an extremely amazing privilege, and blessing.

    They didn’t get land but they didn’t have to take care of it either. They didn’t have to farm, or hunt animals. They didn’t have to work daily jobs to provide for their families. They worked at the temple and the Lord was their reward. This is the ultimate life!

  24. 33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.
    The bible speaks of comparing your self amongst yourselves and how its not wise. We need to make sure we don’t do this when others are being blessed and it may not be your time yet.

  25. 1 Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.

    God wants his people to posses all the land…all the promises. There is much promise to attain. Its time to move forward.

  26. 22 Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among them that were slain by them.

    Balaam may have been used by God, and he may have known and had dealings with God, but he did not have a relationship with Him. This lack of walking with God was evident in the reality of his life and the spirit by which he lived (seen below in 2 Peter 2.) God saved Rahab the harlot because she chose to bless God’s people and was willing to repent and walk righteously befor the Lord, however Balaam blessed God’s people begrudgingly because he was compelled to and had no desire to live pleasing to God. She walked in the bondage of sin ignorantly but willingly kept at the opportunity to leave her lifestyle (along with saving others,) whereas Balaam went to work for the enemy because the pay was good and had respect for persons and required the Lord to open the mouth of a donkey in order to get through to him. Rahab is remembered as a courageous woman who stepped away from her past in order to walk in the blessings among God’s chosen people, but Balaam chose his reward and was slain among the sinful heathen as one of them and was remembered as a soothesayer, not a prophet.

    2 Peter 2:9-10, 15-16
    9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

    10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

    15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

    16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.

    • As a last thought, 2 Peter 2:16 describes him having the opportunity to be called a prophet during his life but Joshua 13:22 reveals he died a soothesayer

  27. 33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.

  28. There is nothing to hard for God. Even when it seems all hope has been lost, God is still able to restore. Whatever we need God to be, he is that and much more.

  29. 1 Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.

    The Mission is always greater than one. He was old in years but there was still much work to be done.

  30. “All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephothmaim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.” The word of God (Jesus) stated he would do it. Jesus (Creator) can do, will do, and will also allow as he so chooses, which is all the more why one should be willing to say; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Dear God, let us never forget it must be about you; as we need you, even for the very breath we breathe. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen

  31. “Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.” Age is a part of life, which even Joshua discovered. As unfortunate as it may be it is often times not thought of until a person is no longer capable as in time past. God awaken us so that we may do your will, before the years take their toll, in Jesus name.

  32. 33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.

    As men and women of God, we too can expect the same, as we are told in the Word, that if we loose our life for Him, then we gain it. Having no inheritance other than Jesus keeps us very dependent on Him.

  33. 1 Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.

    No matter how many years one works for Jesus, there is always MORE room for growth.

  34. 33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.

  35. God tells the people that he himself will drive out the inhabitants before the Isrealites because the land was to become as they are instructed and to divide and share it. Not that the Isrealites should have any division among them but have an order of living. The only tribe left out of the inheritance was of Levi not because God left them out. Their support was to come from the offerings made by fire. Their ministry was to be their livelyhoods from God. God has spoken to Joshua and said that he was very old but still their were very large areas of land to be taken over. It doesn’t matter your age because the Lord has a purpose and a race for us to finish, and its not over yet.

  36. Verses 1 through 6 tell all the places that should be taken. God prmised the land to them if they would drive out all the people. It is massive to think that Joshua was old and feeble but that nevertheless God was going to use him to lead the isealites to their victory. Old age doesn’t mean defeat, but victory and promise.
