Joshua 15

1 This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; even to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of the south coast.

2 And their south border was from the shore of the salt sea, from the bay that looketh southward:

3 And it went out to the south side to Maalehacrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side unto Kadeshbarnea, and passed along to Hezron, and went up to Adar, and fetched a compass to Karkaa:

4 From thence it passed toward Azmon, and went out unto the river of Egypt; and the goings out of that coast were at the sea: this shall be your south coast.

5 And the east border was the salt sea, even unto the end of Jordan. And their border in the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the uttermost part of Jordan:

6 And the border went up to Bethhogla, and passed along by the north of Betharabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben:

7 And the border went up toward Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is before the going up to Adummim, which is on the south side of the river: and the border passed toward the waters of Enshemesh, and the goings out thereof were at Enrogel:

8 And the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite; the same is Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward:

9 And the border was drawn from the top of the hill unto the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to Baalah, which is Kirjathjearim:

10 And the border compassed from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim, which is Chesalon, on the north side, and went down to Bethshemesh, and passed on to Timnah:

11 And the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward: and the border was drawn to Shicron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out unto Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea.

12 And the west border was to the great sea, and the coast thereof. This is the coast of the children of Judah round about according to their families.

13 And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.

14 And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

15 And he went up thence to the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher.

16 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

17 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

18 And it came to pass, as she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?

19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.

21 And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the coast of Edom southward were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur,

22 And Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah,

23 And Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan,

24 Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth,

25 And Hazor, Hadattah, and Kerioth, and Hezron, which is Hazor,

26 Amam, and Shema, and Moladah,

27 And Hazargaddah, and Heshmon, and Bethpalet,

28 And Hazarshual, and Beersheba, and Bizjothjah,

29 Baalah, and Iim, and Azem,

30 And Eltolad, and Chesil, and Hormah,

31 And Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah,

32 And Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities are twenty and nine, with their villages:

33 And in the valley, Eshtaol, and Zoreah, and Ashnah,

34 And Zanoah, and Engannim, Tappuah, and Enam,

35 Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah,

36 And Sharaim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages:

37 Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdalgad,

38 And Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel,

39 Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon,

40 And Cabbon, and Lahmam, and Kithlish,

41 And Gederoth, Bethdagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages:

42 Libnah, and Ether, and Ashan,

43 And Jiphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib,

44 And Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages:

45 Ekron, with her towns and her villages:

46 From Ekron even unto the sea, all that lay near Ashdod, with their villages:

47 Ashdod with her towns and her villages, Gaza with her towns and her villages, unto the river of Egypt, and the great sea, and the border thereof:

48 And in the mountains, Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh,

49 And Dannah, and Kirjathsannah, which is Debir,

50 And Anab, and Eshtemoh, and Anim,

51 And Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages:

52 Arab, and Dumah, and Eshean,

53 And Janum, and Bethtappuah, and Aphekah,

54 And Humtah, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, and Zior; nine cities with their villages:

55 Maon, Carmel, and Ziph, and Juttah,

56 And Jezreel, and Jokdeam, and Zanoah,

57 Cain, Gibeah, and Timnah; ten cities with their villages:

58 Halhul, Bethzur, and Gedor,

59 And Maarath, and Bethanoth, and Eltekon; six cities with their villages:

60 Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjathjearim, and Rabbah; two cities with their villages:

61 In the wilderness, Betharabah, Middin, and Secacah,

62 And Nibshan, and the city of Salt, and Engedi; six cities with their villages.

63 As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.

I just realized that back in Joshua 14 he was 85.

My dad is still in his 70’s, there is stil, hope him to get his passion back.

  2. Wow the ages were different from our ages today.
And when Calebs daughter commanded him to give her land he asked Why?
Don’t command (test) God, for his timing is not ours.

  3. v 19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the uppper springs, and the nether springs .

As we think of the of HIS MANY blessings HE has given us, specially of the greatest unspeakable gift of all HIMSELF !
    I LOVE MY HOLYGHOST !!!
    THE LIVING WATER!

  4. 18 And it came to pass, as she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?

19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

  5. This chapter made me think of “claiming Territory”. There are so many communities, different suburbs and neighborhoods in this city that are ready to claim. Just like Caleb’s daughter, Acsah……..if we don’t ask, we won’t receive. Its time to open not just our mouths; but, our hearts, our lives, our finances, and whatever else the Lord has blessed us with. We won’t stop till the whole world knows as the song says.

  6. Proverbs 30:32-33
If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.
Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

  7. iLove to Grow in the Word

63But the tribe of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites, who lived in the city of Jerusalem, so the Jebusites live there among the people of Judah to this day.

Caleb was of the Tribe of Judah and was a mighty warrior and was full of faith but he was unable to conquer Jerusalem during his lifetime. This should encourage us to receive the promises of God that were promised to our ancestors that they were never able to accomplish or receive. King David (from the tribe of Judah) would come later and conquer the city of Jerusalem and make it the capital of the whole nation…to which it still is to this day.

  8. 20 Thi s is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.
The people of God were taking cities left and right! It seemed that no one could stop the onward progress of the people of God. Today God has an inheritance for his people he wants us to March foward as Christian Soldiers and possess the land that he has for us!

  9. God takes care of his people. They had several areas of land in their possession. When we follow the will of God, he is able to bless us as well. In God there are no shortcuts. Everything has to be done in God’s timing.

  10. GIVE ME A BLESSING

19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

I do not believe that Achsah had a bad spirit, but wanted MORE. She like all others had received some good land. However she had the courage, hunger and passion to yet say GIVE ME A BLESSING. She was already BLESSED as were all that had crossed Jordan.

She received land but wanted MORE. She wanted water to go with it.

iPray this like passion drives the heart of every believer at The POFW. We will be thankful for the BLESSING of 10264 Westport Blvd. but will also hunger for MORE.

We must have springs of water.

John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Lets prepare to posses the land and be hungry for MORE of the SPIRIT of GOD in operating in our lives.

  11. Joshua 15:63 Judah could not dislodge the Jebusites who were living in Jerusalem to this day the Jebusites live there with the people of Judah.

  12. 6 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

Caleb gave his daughter a field, and upon her request he also gave her two springs of water.

A field is no use to anyone if there is no water near it to bring life to it. It would just be a dried up patch of land. However because she now had water that flowed close it could be a land that reproduced and provided resources for their family.

How important the water (spirit) in our lives is as well. Without the Spirit of God we are just dirt/bones compiled in images, but the Spirit of God brings life.

  13. 63 As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.

When i think of this verse i think of the Christian world why do we let this world drive us out for was god has for us we should want to be a part of this world because its only a passing by

But today god i want go to a that i can dwell. In with you. No one in this world can drive us out because we are secure by you

  14. 18 And it came to pass, as she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?
19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

I see a boldness in this girl to have her brand new husband ask her dad for More! She had the boldness & wisdom to ask for springs of water. Caleb requested Hebron which is in the mountains and water would be a valuable asset to own there. We must be bold to ask our Father for More! He owns the cattle of a thousand hills and is able to bless abundantly! More souls for POFW and a 50,000 soul revival in the region Bro Fielding always had us pray for: from Witchita Falls to Abilene, to Waco and back to Witchita Falls. In Jesus Name.

  15. When I was reading this. My thoughts went to b a song. That says. Enlarge my territory. That is my prayer the latest the Lord will allow us to enlarge our territory.

  16. The people of Judah were not able to drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem, so the Jebusites live with the people of Judah in Jerusalem to this day.
    Joshua 15:63 MEV
    http://bible.com/1171/jos.15.63.MEV….

A simple thought about Caleb came to mind. He was from the tribe of Judah… So a praiser does not give in and a praiser will get his promise. The key here might be to keep on praising.

  17. Joshua 15:18-19 (NLT)
    18) When Acsah married Othniel, she urged him to ask her father for a field. As she got down off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What’s the matter?”
    19) She said, “Give me another gift. You have already given me land in the Negev (parched, dry, desert); now please give me springs of water, too.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.

I’m so Thankful to know that JESUS is the Fountain of Living Water in my life. When I feel a little “parched and dry,” I can go and drink of the Fountain of Living Water freely.

    Thank You JESUS !

  18. Joshua 15:19 (KJV Strong’s)
19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

What good is land without harvest? What good is land without revival? What good is land and a new building without fountains of living water pouring forth?

We a grateful for the new land and the new building. We are thankful for what God is doing. Now we humbly ask the Lord for another blessing.

Lord, would you give us spring of water?

  19. 1 This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; even to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of the south coast.

Between Jacob and Esau (Edom) was praise (Judah.) Though the two brothers had seen some reconciliation, the reality was not a legacy of peace between the peoples that came from their bloodlines. When there’s family contention that cannot be fully reconciled, one is wise to place praise between, for God can do more than we ever could on our own.

  20. 63 As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.
There are always things that we must live with, but we must remember not become like it. We are called to be separate.

  21. Caleb asked his daughter what she would like. According to the message version she said she had been given desert land and she wanted a land that had pools of water. I believe when we are walking through a desert land we can seek after the pools of water that God has for us. We must believe He will give us what we seek after. HerFather granted her request.

  22. 16 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

She wanted more, he gave her what she wanted, she was his daughter like I’m God’s daughter, I want more of Him Less of me, I want the WATER!

  23. 18 And it came to pass, as she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?

19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

THIRST: A painful sensation of the throat or fauces, occasioned by the want of drink.

When I read this chapter, it reminded me of a time when I wanted the world to know who I am. Even after Caleb blessed her with the south land, she wanted more. We all want more of the life giving water; I know that I want more of God in my life. As I looked at these two verses, I thought about how have I grown in God’s word. How has my faith grown, is the Holy Ghost getting stronger in me. The answer is yes; it is a process for me and I do believe that I have grown and I do thirst for God’s word.

Psalm 42:1-2 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for Thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?

John 4:13-14 Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water shall thirst again; 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

Revelation 7:16-17 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun beat down on them, nor any heat; 17 for the Lamb in the center of the throne shall be their shepherd, and shall guide them to springs of the water of life; and God shall wipe every tear from their eyes.

We all need the living springs to live eternally. Jesus has given all the way to the living water. It is up to each of us to take possession of the waters that He has put before us. God wants us to thirst for His word and to seek knowledge of His word. Only the living water can provide the quenching that our souls need. She obviously wanted the land to thrive, so she asked of the springs. We are the dwellers in the land and cannot survive without the living water; which is God’s word.
    Thank you Jesus……….Amen!!!

  24. We should enlarge our territories go out to the highways and byways, there are souls all around that are lost if we don’t do anything about it. We shouldn’t be satisfied with our walks with God. I want more of you God!

  25. “And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.” The word of God recorded the fact that Caleb kept his word. There is much that can be said about keeping ones word, just as there is also much that can be said about not. Dear God, help us see the value in the example Caleb displayed. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  26. “Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.” A point to consider is she asked. The Lord declares “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” God help our hearts to be right so that we may ask, believe, and receive; in Jesus name

  27. 19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

  28. “One day Acsah came to Othniel. She begged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb spoke to her. He asked, “What can I do for you?” She replied, “Do me a special favor. You have given me some land in the Negev Desert. Give me springs of water also.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭15:18-19‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Ask and it shall be given to you …. Seek and you will find…. Knock and it will be answered

  29. 63 As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.

Though the children of Israel didn’t have much of choice in letting the Jebusites stay there because of their promise they made to them. It was a good opportunity… because then they got to see the God of Israel. Then we may be around a lot of people who don’t believe in Jesus.. it’s a good opportunity to share the gospel to them.

  30. “As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.”(Joshua‬ ‭15:63‬ ‭KJV)

  31. Could not drive them out.—It is observable that the failure of the three great tribes of Judah and Joseph (Ephraim and Manasseh) to clear the inheritance assigned to them is specially noticed in the Book of Joshua

  32. 18 When Acsah married Othniel, she urged him[g] to ask her father for a field. As she got down off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What’s the matter?”
19 She said, “Give me another gift. You have already given me land in the Negev; now please give me springs of water, too.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs. (NLT)

    Ask and ye shall receive!

  33. 18 When Acsah married Othniel, she urged himg to ask her father for a field. As she got down off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What’s the matter?”

19 She said, “Give me another gift. You have already given me land in the Negev; now please give me springs of water, too.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.

We should always ask God for what we need. If you ask in Jesus name, we shall receive.

  34. The land of the Jebusites is part of the territory given by God to the tribe of Benjamin. It’s not recorded until the people of Judah conquer it in Judges 1:8. Yet we read here that the Jebusites are still living in the city of Jerusalem when Joshua is written. Evidently Judah drove out their enemy only to have them return and inhabit the land again. Their failure to trust Gods promise to help them drive the Jebusites out eventually leads to the fulfillment of the prophecies given in Deuteronomy 7:1-6.

What a powerful reminder that accomplishing the will of God is a partnership of the Lords divine power and our action in obedience to his leading. Fulfilling the will of God does not always happen overnight. Sometimes it takes years or even generations. Our call is to be faithful and keep moving forward.

  35. “And it came to pass, as she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou? Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭15:18-19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It’s not good enough to take the land. If you have not water, Holy Ghost, how are you going to be fruitful? You have to have the territory and the water to do any good. If it is a dry and weary land, people can go anywhere to find that. We have to have the rivers of living water so that we can not just take care of ourselves, but also fill and refresh those around us.
