Judges 1

1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

4 And Judah went up; and the Lord delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

5 And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

6 But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

7 And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

8 Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

9 And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

10 And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

11 And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:

12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

13 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

14 And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?

15 And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

16 And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

18 Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.

19 And the Lord was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

20 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

21 And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

22 And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the Lord was with them.

23 And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)

24 And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.

25 And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

27 Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

29 Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

30 Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

31 Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:

32 But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

33 Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.

34 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:

35 But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

36 And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.

  1. Wow!!! The punishment they got for disobeying in those days was crucial…
They cut off fingers and great toes…Ouch!!!
That is why I am trying to live the way God wants me too, for this is a borrowed shell I live in to protect my soul. I want to make it to heaven.

  2. 1. NOW after the death of Josh’-u-a it came to pass, that the children of Is’-ra-el asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Ca’-na-an-ites first, to fight against them? 2. And the LORD said, Ju’-dah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand. Thank you Jesus !!!!

  3. 1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

  4. 2. And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

    Send up Judah
    Send up Judah…

  5. No battle in the spiritual can be won without some time and type of praise to God. Praise opens the way toward victory over the enemy.

  6. Verse 2 MSG “And God said, “Judah will go. I’ve given the land to him.” Same verse CEV “Judah!” the Lord answered. “I’ll help them take the land.” Same verse NLT “The Lord answered, “Judah, for I have given them victory over the land.” Let’s go praising into our new land that the Lord has given to us.

In verses 22-26 in the MSG version, it talks about a man that the spies of the house of Joseph approached and asked him to show them the way into the city and he did. This made me think of our willingness to NOW show the people (this City) the way to Jesus and Westpoint Blvd.

  7. Judges 1:3-4 & 17
    3) And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee unto thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
    4) And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
    17) And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

This is how the LORD wants His Body to work, TOGETHER, to destroy the enemy.
    UNITY !!

  8. Let’s Fight!!

Moving into our new building is not the time to sit back, relax and take a siesta. We need to prepare to fight the inhabitants of the land we will possess. Judah and Simeon worked together to destroy, defeat and drive out the current inhabitants. We can follow the same design. Together we are strong. Yes the Lord will fight our battles but just like Bro Smith stated this weekend sometimes the Lord will allow things to come against us to see how we will react. It is not for our detriment; rather for our betterment to help us grow stronger in the Lord.

Ecc 4:12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. NLT

Let’s fight and take our land!!

  9. iLove to Grow in the Word

Oh my goodness, no thumbs means no nachos. With that said, Judah disables the actions and efforts of the enemy. Send up Judah, send up praise and God will make a way to triumph over the devil.

  10. 34 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:

35 But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

36 And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.

  11. 2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

This is a pretty powerful chapter to start the book out with. As the song says, “Send up Judah.” We have a hard battle in the coming days preparing to go into the new building, but God is with us and who can stand against us. The enemy has already tried to cause division and guess what he failed. No weapon shall stand against POFW. Let’s possess the land and take out the enemy…..Amen!!!

Rom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Rom 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

This is the time for all to take charge and tell the enemy; you have no authority over me or my family. Get thee behind me; man what a message.

Jos 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

That’s it right there; if I’m not serving God, then I serve who? God is my comfort, healer, the almighty Father………God is good all the time. Have a blessed day all.

  12. PRAISE PREVAILS FIRST

    The LORD said!

Judah shall go up FIRST. Our natural reaction to opposition is to express disappointment, agitation and even frustration when opportunities arise that we do not understand or even agree with. Any occasion that we sense opposition. We should utilize this principal of approach.

PRAISE FIRST. Reject all other emotions, and praise GOD for what he has done and is doing in our lives. PRAISE in advance of VICTORY not only following VICTORY.

    Go UP with PRAISE.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  13. 2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

No fear!! Praise always gives you the victory!!

  14. 1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand
God showed his people that even though their faithful leader was dead that he was still with him. He proved that his promises were true and that the victories He spoke to them would come to pass. God’s word is true and his promises are forever faithful!

  15. 1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

4 And Judah went up; and the Lord delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

Praise your way to Victory!! Don’t just praise after you receive your miricle, praise in advance of the victory you are going to receive and then see what God does next!!

  16. 1 After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the Lord, “Which tribe should go first to attack the Canaanites?”
2 The Lord answered, “Judah, for I have given them victory over the land.” (NLT)

    Praise FIRST!!

  17. Judges 1:19 the Lord was with the men of Judah they took possession of the hillll country but they were unable to drive the people from the plains because they had chariots fitted with iron. As Moses had promised Hebron was given to Caleb who drove from it the three sons of Aknak. The Benjamins however did not drive out the Jebusites who were living in Jerusalem to this day the Jebusites live there with the Benjamites.

  18. 2 The Lord answered, “Judah, for I have given them victory over the land.”NLT

We got the victory POFW, send up praise and watch what God will do

  19. 3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

    Unity.

Band of brothers. We are a band of brother fighting for our city. We must take it back from the enemy. This is our land. We must have unity and work together. If God be for us, who can be against us?

  20. It’s hard to read how many of the tribes refused to obey the Lord and allowed the Canaanites to remain in the land. After seeing the Lord move in their favor city by city up to this point, they either lacked the faith that God would continue in their behalf…or they were just plain lazy and were content to dwell with the adversary. Help me Lord to not be content with the enemy occupying my territory! (My home and my family’s homes) Open my eyes to see if the enemy has infiltrated into my life and then cut him off! As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

  21. 2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

Praise shall go up!!!! Then Jesus will give you deliverance… Have your head up on the Lord listen and obey His Word!! Life is to short to be playing around… Either your hot or your cold. Let the enemy get a hold of you. We are free and the only person that can stop us is ourselves!!! Hallelujah!!!!

  22. 2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

  23. 1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

  24. 2 The Lord answered, “Judah, for I have given them victory over the land.”

Whenever the devil tries to mess with you or get in your head just remember you are victorious!!

  25. 24 And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.

25 And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

  26. Judges 1:19 (NLT)
Israel Fails to Conquer the Land
19 The Lord was with the people of Judah, and they took possession of the hill country. But they failed to drive out the people living in the plains, who had iron chariots.

Judah and Caleb took the mountain but they didn’t take the plains. Some commentators say it’s because Judah did not pursue their expulsion properly. They didn’t wholeheartedly conquer.

    Arrival doesn’t mean absolute victory.
Although we are moving into our new building Sunday this is only just the beginning. Yes we have taken and possessed the land but now it’s time to war for the region like never before.

  27. 1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

4 And Judah went up; and the Lord delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

Send up Judah…whatever the battle is praise should go first. Knowing that God is all powerful and there is nothing inpossible for him, praise him in advance.

  28. 7 Adoni-bezek said, “I once had seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off, eating scraps from under my table. Now God has paid me back for what I did to them.” They took him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

The old saying, “what goes around, comes around”. I’m sure Adoni never, never thought it would ever happen to him. God will come around and remind you of how you handled things in the past. So be careful how to condole yourself.

  29. You don’t realize how powerful your praise truly is until you put it in action. The enemy hates when we begin to praise because there is nothing he can do about it. Your praise is a weapon that will defeat the enemy every time.

  30. “And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.” The word of God (Jesus) recorded for all to see, that all shall, one day reap, what one sows. Dear God (Judge), reveal to us and forgive us of any wrong, and help us treat others as we would want others to treat us, in Jesus name. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  31. “Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?” They had no alternative but to seek the Lord for themselves. There must be a personal relationship with the Lord, as there may be times required as the children of Israel discovered too seek the Lord. God help us establish a personal relationship with you, in Jesus name.

  32. 2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
God is going to give us this city but we have to do it together in unity! We all should be moving Northward so we can accomplish Gods work. We take care of Gods business he will take care of ours! Hallelujah!

  33. 28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

If you are strong you are able to drive the enemy out. There is a greater chance of the enemy infecting one of your own if you keep him around.

You intentions of making him a slave may seem to work for now but the longer he hangs around the more opportunities he has to entice you into being his friend.

The old saying “if you play with fire you will get burned.”

  34. 15 And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

  35. They will definitely miss his leadership.

1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

  36. “They caught up with My-Master-Bezek there and fought him. They smashed the Canaanites and the Perizzites. My-Master-Bezek ran, but they gave chase and caught him. They cut off his thumbs and big toes. My-Master-Bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to crawl under my table, scavenging. Now God has done to me what I did to them.” They brought him to Jerusalem and he died there.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭1:5-7‬ ‭MSG‬‬
    http://bible.com/97/jdg.1.5-7.msg

Be careful how you treat people. God may return the favor.

““Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don’t condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you’ll find life a lot easier. Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.””
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭6:37-38‬ ‭MSG‬‬
    http://bible.com/97/luk.6.37-38.msg

  37. 15 And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

  38. 4 And Judah went up; and the Lord delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

  39. 2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

Praise always precedes a victory. If you’re feeling defeated, give God your highest praise and watch your victory rise to the surface.

  40. “The LORD was with the people of Judah, and they took possession of the hill country. But they failed to drive out the people living in the plains, who had iron chariots. The town of Hebron was given to Caleb as Moses had promised. And Caleb drove out the people living there, who were descendants of the three sons of Anak.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭1:19-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It’s not just enough to take possession of land but you have to drive out the strongholds. We haven’t arrived to our final destination on West Point Blvd. there’s still more land to conquer but more than the land that we’re conquering there’s new strongholds to drive us out
