Judges 3

1 Now these are the nations which the Lord left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;

2 Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;

3 Namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baalhermon unto the entering in of Hamath.

4 And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

5 And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites:

6 And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.

7 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and forgat the Lord their God, and served Baalim and the groves.

8 Therefore the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushanrishathaim eight years.

9 And when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.

10 And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the Lord delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.

11 And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

12 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord: and the Lord strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the Lord.

13 And he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of palm trees.

14 So the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.

15 But when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, the Lord raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, a man lefthanded: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto Eglon the king of Moab.

16 But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he did gird it under his raiment upon his right thigh.

17 And he brought the present unto Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon was a very fat man.

18 And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that bare the present.

19 But he himself turned again from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand unto thee, O king: who said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him.

20 And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone. And Ehud said, I have a message from God unto thee. And he arose out of his seat.

21 And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly:

22 And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out.

23 Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlour upon him, and locked them.

24 When he was gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that, behold, the doors of the parlour were locked, they said, Surely he covereth his feet in his summer chamber.

25 And they tarried till they were ashamed: and, behold, he opened not the doors of the parlour; therefore they took a key, and opened them: and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth.

26 And Ehud escaped while they tarried, and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto Seirath.

27 And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.

28 And he said unto them, Follow after me: for the Lord hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan toward Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over.

29 And they slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all lusty, and all men of valour; and there escaped not a man.

30 So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest fourscore years.

31 And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.

  1. It amazes me to read all the thousands of people followed God and those that didn’t were punished…had I lived in the bible days I would have chosen God and followed in His steps He had made a path for me. Seeing my fellow neighbors getting slayed and thumbs cut off…Ouch!!!
I will follow God to my hardest God willingly

  2. 27 And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.

28 And he said unto them, Follow after me: for the Lord hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan toward Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over.

  3. 16. But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he did gird it under his raiment upon his right thigh.

    31. And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.

If you can make a special dagger for a specific enemy, or if you just have to pick up an ox goad, God can use you if you are willing to do something for His Kingdom.

  4. In reading this chapter, it talks about how the People of Israel did evil in God’s sight and made themselves at home among their gods (Baal gods and Asherah goddesses) and worshiped them. They were there to test Israel and see whether they would obey God’s commands that were given to their parents through Moses; but, Israel kept failing the test. Let us not forget ALL that the Lord has done for us. We cannot afford to get in the mindset of “we have arrived” and let our guard down. Now more than ever, we need to bind together in unity and fight for this City. Always following/obeying God’s commands.

  5. God is so faithful. Even though Israel kept going back to do evil when they cried out to him he delivered them. We are one cry away from my deliverance.

  6. 15 But when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, the Lord raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, a man lefthanded: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto Eglon the king of Moab.

Despite what many people might do against the Lord, when they cry out to the Lord there will be a deliverance that the Lord will give unto them. The prodigals are coming home as it has been prophesied and I rejoice because no matter what Jesus still loves them and will deliver them from any sin they are in right now. The prodigals will be back and it is our job to love and motivate them. Like Pastor has told us our job is not to judge!!! Thank you Lord for your grace and mercy!!!! Hallelujah!!!!

  7. AMNESIA LEADS TO ANGER

Throughout the WORD of GOD, we see where the people of GOD, became distracted, disattached and detoured from their purpose in GOD.

    Here they forget the LORD.

YOU don’t forget something you DO everyday.

    Pray to JESUS everyday
Read the WORD of GOD everyday
    Serve the LORD everyday
    Praise the LORD everyday
    Pray in the SPIRIT everyday

By remembering the LORD everyday we create a place of peace and rest for ourselves and a place for GOD to reveal his Glory.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  8. Judges 3:12 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and because they did this evil the lord gave Eglon King of Moab power over Israel. Getting the Ammonites and Amalekites to join him Eglon came and attacked Israel and they took possession of the city of Palms. The Israelites were subject to Eglon King of Moab for eighteen years. Again Israelites cried out to the Lord and he gave them a deliverer Ehud a left-handed man the son of Gera the Benjamite the Israelites sent him with tribute to Eglon k8ng of Moab.

  9. 9 But when the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help, the Lord raised up a rescuer to save them… (NLT)

These lyrics came to mind, “We serve a loving God. So merciful and kind. He reaches out, to say He loves you.” Despite our mistakes, we serve a loving God who will take every opportunity to draw us back to Him. Thank You Jesus because you know some of us are “far off” or just real stubborn and we don’t realize it’s God or are too prideful to thank Him for saving us. But I thank God for His saving grace and His mercy because despite the foolishness we leave Him for, His arms of love, His peace and joy are always there for us to return to.

  10. Judges 3:9 & 15
9, “And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them,….
15, “But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer,..

God is our Deliverer. When His children cry out to Him, He delivers them from all their troubles.
Thank You JESUS for your Mercy !

  11. 4 And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

5 And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites
these verses attempt to show that it looks like God actually placed his people in a position where they would be able to choose what God they would serve. he wanted to make sure that their hearts were turned towards him and not towards the gods of the Egyptians. it looks like unfortunately the children of Israel went the way of the world. Today God allows us to choose everyday what path we will take and if we will serve him or the idols of this world let us choose to serve him and not consume ourselves with this world and it’s ungodly ways.

  12. 7 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and forgat the Lord their God, and served Baalim and the groves.

8 Therefore the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushanrishathaim eight years.

9 And when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.

this shows that even though we might do God wrong in anyway and forget all the things that he has done for you he will be there and yes God might put some test to see if you will call out to him for help and he does that so they his lost childrem come back to him and he expects you to call in his name. once your deep in your problem and dont know how to get out of that problem once you call out to him he will be there to get you out of the problem.

  13. 7 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and forgat the Lord their God, and served Baalim and the groves

You will pay to do evil. There is a price for sin. The main wage of sin is death. But we have have been bought with a blood price. So we don’t have to pay.

  14. 1 Now these are the nations which the Lord left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;

    2 Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;

God allows things in our lives to test and grow our faith.

  15. 7 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and forgat the Lord their God, and served Baalim and the groves.

8 Therefore the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushanrishathaim eight years.

God don’t play around when His children disobey. The children of Israel stepped away into evil temptations and they paid for it. I’ve paid for the mistakes that I made in the sight of God. Did I pass every test He put before me, no. I failed a few times before I got it right and there are still tests that He is putting me through. God knows what He is doing to get His children stronger. Where each of us needs to be, unity. One accord as we get ready to move into promised land. Don’t let the world influence you (me), give it to God………Have a blessed day…Amen!!

  16. 27 And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.

  17. Judges 3:9 (Message)
9 The People of Israel cried out to God and God raised up a savior who rescued them: Caleb’s nephew Othniel, son of his younger brother Kenaz. The Spirit of God came on him and he rallied Israel. He went out to war and God gave him Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim. Othniel made short work of him.

The spirit of God used Othniel mightily. But why? It was because of Uncle Caleb. Caleb refused to give up his dreams and served the Lord faithfully and consistently. His actions bled into the next generations until his nephew stood for truth just as Caleb.

Remember there are always people watching us and our actions affect our families.

  18. 28 “Follow me,” he said, “for the LORD has given you victory over Moab your enemy.” So they followed him. And the Israelites took control of the shallow crossings of the Jordan River across from Moab, preventing anyone from crossing.

Our Pastor may not say it directly “Follow me”, but as a man of God, he has the authority over us, and to lead us. It’s up to each individual to follow the man of God or not.

  19. 31 Shamgar son of Anath came after Ehud. Using a cattle prod, he killed six hundred Philistines single-handed. He too saved Israel.

God used Shamgar and he saved Israel. God is using POFW to save Fort Worth. The people of this world are crying out to God and he has sent us to go and bring them to him.

  20. “Follow me,” he said, “for the LORD has given you victory over Moab your enemy.” So they followed him. And the Israelites took control of the shallow crossings of the Jordan River across from Moab, preventing anyone from crossing. They attacked the Moabites and killed about 10,000 of their strongest and most able-bodied warriors. Not one of them escaped. So Moab was conquered by Israel that day, and there was peace in the land for eighty years. (‭Judges‬ ‭3‬:‭28-30‬ NLT)

As long as we follow GOD, we will always have victory over our enemy!! But it’s when you want to take matters into your hands(living life as a rebel) your pretty much ‘a dead man’ walking!!!! It’s time to break the cycle of going around the same circle over and over again. You were always meant to go far beyond your mind can comprehend. Trust Him in all things. Stop chasing after things that have no significance.

But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead. (‭Matthew‬ ‭8‬:‭22‬ KJV)

  21. This chapter shows the importance of doing right according to God’s standards. When we try to things our way, we end up in trouble. Our way is not God’s way and we should yield to the voice of God.

  22. 7 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and forgat the Lord their God, and served Baalim and the groves.

  23. 7 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and forgat the Lord their God, and served Baalim and the groves.

Pastor has taught many many times that our success or failure depends on leadership. If you are leading, what example do you leave for others to follow? When Israel had a godly man to follow, they served the Lord God and had peace in their land, but when that man died and there was no godly replacement, they did evil like the nations around them. So, who are you leading and what do they see you doing?

  24. “And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.” The word of God (Jesus) said “they were to prove Israel”. One should seek God (Creator) on all matters; as the hindrance, obstacle, or situation may just be a test too prove if one will serve God (Judge). Dear God, help us be overcomers and take comfort in that all will one day be settled by you, in Jesus name. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  25. “And when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.” The Lord saved them, after they cried out. The Lord is no respecter of persons, which therefore means he will; however it will be after we humble self and cry out to him. God help us see that if we will, then you will, in Jesus name.

  26. So much more we can do in the kingdom of God if we bind together in unity! There is no big I’d and no little you’s, but all working together in Gods kingdom and not seeking our own but Gods kingdom.

  27. iLove to Grow in the Word

“These people were left to test the Israelites—to see whether they would obey the commands the LORD had given to their ancestors through Moses.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭3:4‬ ‭NLT

The tests in life sometimes come from the Lord… They don’t always come from the devil

  28. 4 And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

This shows you that the Lord can and will allow things in your life to test and prove your faith abf faithfulness in Him.

  29. 17 And he brought the present unto Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon was a very fat man.
21 And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly:
22 And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out.

If the Word calls you a fat man, it’s because that was your notable feature.
This part of the story that goes into detail of how the people of God overcame this King is interesting. Many times the bible just records the victory without any details,
This account sounds straight out of a action movie.

  30. 20 And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone.

  31. 4 And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

We all need accountability to help follow Jesus and his word.

  32. 7 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and forgat the Lord their God, and served Baalim and the groves.

When God’s people get desperate enough, God will send an answer.

  33. 7. And the children of Is’-ra-el did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Ba’-a-lim and the groves. 8. Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Is’-ra-el, and he sold them into the hand of Chu’-shan-rish-a-tha’-i’m king of Mes-o-po-ta’-mi-a: and the children of Is’-ra-el served Chu’-shan-rish-a-tha’-I’m eight years. 12. And the children of Is’-ra-el did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened Eg’-lon the king of Mo’-ab against Is’-ra-el, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD. Thank you Jesus !!!!
