Judges 4

1 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord, when Ehud was dead.

2 And the Lord sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.

3 And the children of Israel cried unto the Lord: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.

4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.

5 And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedeshnaphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the Lord God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?

7 And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand.

8 And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go.

9 And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the Lord shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.

10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.

11 Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.

12 And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor.

13 And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.

14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

15 And the Lord discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.

16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.

17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.

19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.

20 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and enquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.

21 Then Jael Heber’s wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples.

23 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.

24 And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.

  1. Take The Lead
And Barack said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go!”

People follow men and women whose leadership they respect. The less-skilled follow the more highly skilled. In general, followers seek those who are better leaders than themselves.
Deborah’s leadership gifts commanded the respect of both men and women, even though few women in her day rose to leadership positions. Even Barak, the military commander of the northern tribes of Israel, sought her help.

Thank God for good leaders at POFW!

  2. 13. And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.

    15. And the Lord discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.

    21. Then Jael Heber’s wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

Sisera depended heavily on his iron chariots. When they failed, he ran and hid, only to be killed by an iron spike. We must learn to put our trust in God; He does not fail.

  3. Verse 24 CEV “Jabin grew weaker while the Israelites kept growing stronger, and at last the Israelites destroyed him.” Same verse in NIV “And the hand of the Israelites pressed harder and harder against Jabin king of Canaan until they destroyed him.” We must keep pushing, pressing harder and keep growing for we have the victory in Jesus name .

  4. THIS IS THE DAY

The DAY of VICTORY is appointed by the LORD. When the LORD has gone before us to secure our VICTORY. I believe the DAY of VICTORY is very near for The Pentecostals of Fort Worth. We are 2 days away from moving to our new location. Which means we are 2 days away from moving into uncharted territory. The LORD must go out before us. When you pray this weekend, please remember to ask the LORD to GO before us to Westpoint.

Our DAY of VICTORY is very near.

  5. 21 Then Jael Heber’s wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary.

His guard was down and he thought he was safe, No matter what they did, they murmured and complained against God, and worshipped idols, but God is so just and faithful he helped them when they cried out! He is so awesome!

  6. 14 Then Deborah said to Barak, “Get ready! This is the day the Lord will give you victory over Sisera, for the Lord is marching ahead of you.” So Barak led his 10,000 warriors down the slopes of Mount Tabor into battle. (NLT)

Verse 24 says in the NLT, that Isreal grew stronger and stronger until they destroyed the Canaanite king. We have grown stronger and stronger POFW and now is the time of victory. We have nothing to fear because the Lord is marching ahead of us, we just need to praise and thank God, have faith and trust in God, and be ready to receive our victory!

  7. Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.

  8. In verse 14 The bible says that this day Sisera would be delivered into their hands. God is speaking that to this church today and to the lives of the saints of the church. God has a victory for us today and for POFW. All we have to do is obey God and serve him and he will deliver the enemy into our hands. We’ve God the Victory!

  9. 24 And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.

We will come against many kings of this land, but GOD will deliver them into our hands!

  10. Judges 4:4-5 (NLT)
    4) Now Deborah, a woman prophet, the wife of Lapidoth, was judge of Israel at that time.
    5) And she had her seat under the palm-tree Deborah between Ramah and Beth-el in the hill-country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel came up to her to be judged.

I think this is a good chapter to give Honor where Honor is due today.
I give Honor to Sis. Watts today, a beautiful woman of God and Leader. We have no idea all she does for the kingdom of God, or the countless questions she answers, or the time she spends counseling others, but Thank You Sis. Watts for your labor of Love. May you be Blessed and Strengthened in JESUS today.

  11. 14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

Obey the Lord and you will have your victory today!!

  12. 23 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.

God will take care of our enemies. As long as we are ri here to with him. God will fight for us. The question is are you on God’s side.?

  13. 14) NLT then deborah said To barak , “get really! This is the day the lord will give you victory over sisara, for you so barak led his 10,000 warrior down the slopes of mount tabor into batttle

You have the victory don’t let anyone steal that from u

  14. Judges 4:8-9 (AMP)
8 And Barak said to her, If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go.
9 And she said, I will surely go with you; nevertheless, the trip you take will not be for your glory, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh. [Fulfilled in Judg. 4:22.]

What a tragedy! Barack became a spectator to his own promise. He saw his destiny fulfilled through another. This was all because of his unbelief. He trusted in Deborah and her skills of judging more than the Lord himself.

We need to remember what the apostle said and press toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Otherwise we may be watching the Lord’s destiny for us be given to another.

  15. 9 And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the Lord shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.

  16. “And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.” The word of God (Jesus) revealed for all to see the importance of following him (God), and of prayer. Sisera’s trust in Jael was obviously not reciprocal (mutual), which is all the more reason one should strive to be right with God (Judge); elsewise one may never see the nail coming. Dear God, help us to be right with you and let us not be deceived, in Jesus name. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  17. “So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.” The Lord did in a day what they struggled with for many years. The Lord has and can again take care of situations in a fraction of time; if we will but seek him. God help us learn to seek you in all things, in Jesus name.

  18. 19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty.

So he died.

We need to be careful who accept nourishment from… they might come to stab you in the back when you least except it! And also, if you don’t follow God’s commandments and walk in the path of darkness, it will come back to bite you.

  19. iLove to grow in the Word

“Barak told her, “I will go, but only if you go with me.” “Very well,” she replied, “I will go with you. But you will receive no honor in this venture, for the LORD’s victory over Sisera will be at the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭4:8-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It’s an honor to have strong women in the kingdom of God.

  20. 3 And the children of Israel cried unto the Lord: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.

Time and time again we see God’s love mercy and forgiveness towards his children. No matter how far you may have strayed or how much you may have forgotten or sin against him. He hears the cry of his children… When one falls repentance is the way…cry out to God for he has not foegotten and has his arms open waiting for one to come back.

  21. 21 Then Jael Heber’s wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

Jael wasn’t afraid to do what need to be done. Sometimes we have to take the step to kill the things (attitudes, actions) that we are allowing to rule our lives and bring evil results.

  22. 21 Then Jael Heber’s wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

This when we (I) know God is with us; there is no fear. Our (my) fear comes from what the world might think about us and that creates doubt. Let God do a mighty work in you (me). The only thing that we (I) should fear is God saying ,” Get thee from me for I know you not.” Don’t let the world pull you (me) from what God has for us all. Sunday the promise land shall be ours……..God is awesome…..Amen!!!

  23. Deborah was a judge and prophet over Israel. She sets A precedence for women in ministry. Luke 2 and Acts 21 record females who were prophetess. Examples are seen throughout both testaments.

  24. “Then Deborah said to Barak, “Get ready! This is the day the LORD will give you victory over Sisera, for the LORD is marching ahead of you.” So Barak led his 10,000 warriors down the slopes of Mount Tabor into battle.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭4:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Allow God to be the leader in your situation and you will have victory Everytime. Trust God, everything will be okay and fall into place the way it’s supposed to.

  25. 14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

After Israel cried unto the Lord and repented, they still had to wait until the time of the Lord’s deliverance concerning the bondage their sin put them in. Forgiveness doesn’t mean total absolution from the repercussions of our actions; rather it is a matter of putting judgement into God’s hands and allowing Him to work out matters as He sees fit. After Israel did evil in God’s sight, He could have left them in bondage until that entire generation died off, just like when the children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years. But we know, He did not.

The same is true even under the dispensation of grace. Just because a person on death row hears the gospel and is born again, there is no guarantee that God will make a way for them to receive a pardon or lessening of their sentence. Their eternal reward may become going to be with Jesus forever more but that doesn’t automatically change their life circumstances here and now.

Grace is means we have the opportunity to repent of sin and living righteously before God, but it doesn’t mean we won’t still lose out when we fall into sin. Somethings are one time opportunities that are gone if we pass them up by choosing sin. Sin is not without cost, both here and eternally.

  26. 4. And Deb’-o-rah, a prophetess, the wife of Lap’-I-doth, she judged Is’-ra-el at that time. 5. And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deb’-o-rah between Ra’-mah and Beth’-el in mount E’-phra-I’m: and the children of Is’-ra-el came up to her for judgment. 6. And she sent and called Ba’-rak the son of A-bin’-o-am out of Ke’-desh-naph’-ta-li, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Is’-ra-el commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Ta’-bor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naph’-ta-li and of the children of Zeb’-u-lun? Thank you for forgiveness !!!

  27. Deborah wis a women among men -brave, intellegent, trustworthy, confident of Gods Word and confident of Gods presence. She rules under a Palm tree that bears her name and the Isrealites bring their disputes to her. More than an arbitrator, Deborah is a conduit of Gods will for the people. She is the role of Judge and prophetess. Gods will is that they go into battle and be victorious. She goes in order and summons Barak who refused to go unless she joins, which she does. She is confident in the will of God for herself and her people, she steps out of the cultral tradition of her time for women and goes to battle. The key issue here, is not what Deborah does but whom she follows. She could have been at home cooking and cleaning, watching after a family but she was fearless in obeying God in abandonment of self will.

  28. 7 And I will call out Sisera, commander of Jabin’s army, along with his chariots and warriors, to the Kishon River. There I will give you victory over him.”

God will give you the victory that you want. You have to ask and pray in his name.

  29. The Lord declared victory through Deborah the prophetess, but Barak as Captain of the armies wouldn’t go unless Deborah came with him. Where was his faith? So the Lord declared the victory would come at the hands of a woman. Women were not the warriors, able to fight with the sword, however, when God declares a woman will kill the enemy, it is all for the Lords glory! The point is, that when God declares victory, it can be obtain by anyone because he ordered and ordained it! We cannot lose when God says we are victors.

  30. ““Very well,” she replied, “I will go with you. But you will receive no honor in this venture, for the LORD’s victory over Sisera will be at the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh.

But when Sisera fell asleep from exhaustion, Jael quietly crept up to him with a hammer and tent peg in her hand. Then she drove the tent peg through his temple and into the ground, and so he died.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭4:9, 21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Thankful that we can take God’s word (straight from God or from one of his vessels) and know without a doubt that it will come to pass.
