Judges 5

1 Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,

2 Praise ye the Lord for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.

3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.

4 Lord, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water.

5 The mountains melted from before the Lord, even that Sinai from before the Lord God of Israel.

6 In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, and the travellers walked through byways.

7 The inhabitants of the villages ceased, they ceased in Israel, until that I Deborah arose, that I arose a mother in Israel.

8 They chose new gods; then was war in the gates: was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?

9 My heart is toward the governors of Israel, that offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless ye the Lord.

10 Speak, ye that ride on white asses, ye that sit in judgment, and walk by the way.

11 They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the Lord, even the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the Lord go down to the gates.

12 Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barak, and lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam.

13 Then he made him that remaineth have dominion over the nobles among the people: the Lord made me have dominion over the mighty.

14 Out of Ephraim was there a root of them against Amalek; after thee, Benjamin, among thy people; out of Machir came down governors, and out of Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer.

15 And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah; even Issachar, and also Barak: he was sent on foot into the valley. For the divisions of Reuben there were great thoughts of heart.

16 Why abodest thou among the sheepfolds, to hear the bleatings of the flocks? For the divisions of Reuben there were great searchings of heart.

17 Gilead abode beyond Jordan: and why did Dan remain in ships? Asher continued on the sea shore, and abode in his breaches.

18 Zebulun and Naphtali were a people that jeoparded their lives unto the death in the high places of the field.

19 The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of money.

20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.

21 The river of Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. O my soul, thou hast trodden down strength.

22 Then were the horsehoofs broken by the means of the pransings, the pransings of their mighty ones.

23 Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the Lord, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the Lord, to the help of the Lord against the mighty.

24 Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent.

25 He asked water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a lordly dish.

26 She put her hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workmen’s hammer; and with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote off his head, when she had pierced and stricken through his temples.

27 At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: where he bowed, there he fell down dead.

28 The mother of Sisera looked out at a window, and cried through the lattice, Why is his chariot so long in coming? why tarry the wheels of his chariots?

29 Her wise ladies answered her, yea, she returned answer to herself,

30 Have they not sped? have they not divided the prey; to every man a damsel or two; to Sisera a prey of divers colours, a prey of divers colours of needlework, of divers colours of needlework on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil?

31 So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

  1. I will sing praises unto the Lord a new song, sing praises all ye earth for God is great and greatly to be praised sing unto the Lord a new song…
3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.

  2. 3. Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Is’-ra-el. Sing unto the LORD A new song !!!!

  3. Risk taker, nay sayer, or spectator?

The princes of Issachar were with Deborah and Barak. They followed Barak, rushing into the valley. But in the tribe of Reuben there was great indecision. Why did you sit at home among the sheepfolds— to hear the shepherds whistle for their flocks? Yes, in the tribe of Reuben there was great indecision. Gilead remained east of the Jordan. And why did Dan stay home? Asher sat unmoved at the seashore, remaining in his harbors. But Zebulun risked his life, as did Naphtali, on the heights of the battlefield. (‭Judges‬ ‭5‬:‭15-18‬ NLT)

At some point in time we all have been in the ‘ valley of decisions.’ But it’s the ‘Risk takers’ that make things happen!!!! Despite the ‘nay sayers’, or the ‘spectators’ , the risk takers walked by faith and put their TRUST in GOD!! And as you see, The LORD gave them the Victory!!!!

  4. 11 They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the Lord, even the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the Lord go down to the gates.

  5. THE SONG AND FORMULA FOR VICTORY

2 Praise ye the Lord for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.

The LORD avenges the adversaries of HIS people when we are willing to unify, labor and rejoice in “who” JESUS is.

    GOD IS.

    Faithful
    Just
    Righteous
    Holy
    Powerful
    Faithful
    Majestic
    Miraculous
    Mighty
    Able
    Abundant
    Healing
    Salvation
    Provision

and anything and everything we will ever need.

When people TRUST GOD by offering themselves to HIS service, GOD will avenge every adversary. iPray today that The POFW will unify in willingly offering ourselves to the service of our King.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  6. 31 So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

  7. 31 So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.
Because of the people of God’s obedience all of the enemies perished. Also all that love God and did his will shine like the sun and they were able to receive rest for 40 years. When we do the will of God if I feel his will he will give us spiritual rest and the victory over our enemies!

  8. Deborah’s song ends with two contrasts. The comparing of a joyful victory of one mother with the anguished defeat of another. “A mother in Isreal.” vs 7. Is a song of victory over the enemies of Isreal and God. It would seem the victory should have been to the enemy with 900 chariots and stronger forces. But appearances don’t always add up when it comes to Gods economy. Thanks in part to Jael’s initiative the battle. Deborah’s song of joy is contrasted to the anguish of Sisera’s mothers waiting for the return of their sons. The second contrast is what will happen to those who are Gods enemies with what will happen to those who love him. The first will be destroyed and second will rise in power. The victory may not be immediate. It may look like the odds are against us. But the winner will always be the one on Gods side.

  9. Judges 5:31 (KJV Strong’s)

31 So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord:
but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might.
And the land had rest forty years.

When you are against the Lord your life is filled with darkness. when you live for God you shine bright like the sun.

The word might means victory. We are victorious! People are attracted to the light of the Lord. Shine brightly!

  10. 3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.

God in my trouble i will praise and sing this is how i will overcome

  11. 31 So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

  12. 2 Praise ye the Lord for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.

3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.

We always have something to praise God for, every time we breath and every time we see the sun in the morning is a reason to praise God. However this weekend we got a lot to praise God for, we will be moving into the new building! Through a lot of stress and hard work and sacrifice it’s here, and now is the time to praise God for it.

  13. 2 “Israel’s leaders took charge, and the people gladly followed. Praise the Lord! (NLT)

GLADLY followed… Praise the Lord! What kind of attitude are you following with?

  14. 25 Sisera asked for water, and she gave him milk. In a bowl fit for nobles,
    she brought him yogurt.

We should look for warning signs in our life. Once he received milk instead of water, he should have recognized trouble. If we receive something other than what we ask for, guard yourself, for the enemy may be lurking around.

  15. iLove to Grow in the Word
“The princes of Issachar were with Deborah and Barak. They followed Barak, rushing into the valley. But in the tribe of Reuben there was great indecision. Why did you sit at home among the sheepfolds— to hear the shepherds whistle for their flocks? Yes, in the tribe of Reuben there was great indecision.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭5:15-16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Indecision causes folks to stay home and not be a part of what’s going on

  16. Judges 5:3, “Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel.”

Ps. 104:33, “I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.”

Always give God the Praise !

  17. 24-31
The poem closes with a vivid description of descriptions of Siseras death and the growing anxiety offish mother when he falls to return in triumph when expected

  18. 3 Hear O kings! Listen O princes! To God, yes to God, I’ll sing, Make music to God, to the God of Israel.

Tell every one about God and what great things he’s doing at POFW!

  19. Verse 3 AMP ““Hear, O kings; listen, O rulers! I will sing to the Lord, I will sing praise to the Lord, the God of Israel.” Let us (POFW) enter into His gates tomorrow with praise.

  20. 31 So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

  21. 3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.

This never happens. Even through the troubles that Nora and I were having today. We still praised God for the miracles that He has done in our lives. Don’t be quick to turn your (my) back to God. Look at what He did with the children of Israel. Praise and worship the Father no matter what you’re (I) are going through. POFW must stand unified in this move……..Thank you Jesus…..Amen!!!

  22. “So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.” The word of God (Jesus) said they had rest. One can have rest when one gives it too God. Dear God, let it be so as well today, in Jesus name. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  23. “Praise ye the Lord for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.” The Lord was ready and more than capable, as we can clearly see. If the Lord doesn’t change, then the answer for resolving situations has also not changed. God open our eyes to the fact that you are the key, in Jesus name.

  24. Judges 5:10-11 “Consider this, you who ride on fine donkeys, you who sit on fancy saddle blankets, and you who walk along the road. Listen to the village musicians gathered at the watering holes. They recount the righteous victories of the Lord and the victories of his villagers in Israel. Then the people of the Lord marched down to the city gates.”

It doesn’t matter who you are, whether rich to ride upon fine donkeys with fancy saddle blankets or poor to have only your own two feet to carry you along your way, when God moves, all are humbled before Him. Before God, temporal differences fade away and we are all revealed to be human, frail and made by the mighty hand of God, each of us alike:

Proverbs 22:2 The rich and poor have this in common:The Lord made them both.

  25. 2 Praise ye the Lord for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.

The word, “willingly,” sticks out to me here. It was when the Israelites WILLINGLY OFFERED THEMSELVES that God avenged them. The only way God is going to help us with our situations and needs is if we WILLINGLY let Him take control of our lives. It’s important to remember that God’s a gentlemen and He isn’t going to move around our lives if we don’t give Him the permission to.

  26. give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.

4 Lord, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water.

5 The mountains melted from before the Lord, even that Sinai from before the Lord God of Israel.

  27. 31 So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

  28. ““Israel’s leaders took charge, and the people gladly followed. Praise the LORD!”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭5:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When we all work together and fulfill our responsibility we will see the same victory.

“Stay calm; mind your own business; do your own job. You’ve heard all this from us before, but a reminder never hurts. We want you living in a way that will command the respect of outsiders, not lying around sponging off your friends.”
    ‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭4:11-12‬ ‭MSG‬‬
