Judges 6

1 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord: and the Lord delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.

2 And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.

3 And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;

4 And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.

5 For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.

6 And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the Lord.

7 And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord because of the Midianites,

8 That the Lord sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

9 And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land;

10 And I said unto you, I am the Lord your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.

11 And there came an angel of the Lord, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

12 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.

13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

14 And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?

15 And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

16 And the Lord said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.

17 And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then shew me a sign that thou talkest with me.

18 Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until thou come again.

19 And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.

20 And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.

21 Then the angel of the Lord put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the Lord departed out of his sight.

22 And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the Lord, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord God! for because I have seen an angel of the Lord face to face.

23 And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.

24 Then Gideon built an altar there unto the Lord, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

25 And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:

26 And build an altar unto the Lord thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.

27 Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the Lord had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father’s household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.

28 And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built.

29 And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.

30 Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.

31 And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.

32 Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.

33 Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.

34 But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.

35 And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.

36 And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,

37 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.

38 And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.

39 And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.

40 And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.

  1. 23 And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.

    24 Then Gideon built an altar there unto the Lord, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

    Peace be unto thee. We are given the the Armor of GOD and with it we are given the Gospel of Peace to walk in. It says for our feet to be shod in it. To wear it always. Our GOD is THE GOD of Peace. Jehovah Shalom. If we serve the GOD of Peace then we should serve in Peace and Unity. We should Love in Peace. Be disciples of Peace.

  2. 13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us?
    This verse is equal to another scripture in the bible where it says If God be before us then who should be against us.

    22 And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the Lord, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord God! for because I have seen an angel of the Lord face to face.
    23 And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.
    Don’t fear the things that the world offers you…
    Jesus encamp angels all around our house and our house of worship with all the people. I pray that you scare off bad and evil people away with your angels Oh God.

  3. Love and Fear
    Judges 6:12-13 One day the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon and said,
    ” ‘ The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.’ ” ” ‘But sir, ‘Gideon replied, if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us?”I can relate to that ! Yes, I know in my head that God has promised never to leave me or forsake me. But if all that is true —and it is—why am I going through such a hard time? As Gideo put it, “Why has all this happened to me ? When things aren’t going my way I don’t understand, I begin to be anxious. Fear grips my heart. “Perfect love drives out fear” (1 John 4:18).
    love is the supreme weapon against fear. When I truly understand how much God loves me, fear leaves my heart like darkness when the sun rises.

  4. 6So Israel was reduced to starvation by the Midianites. Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD for help.

    The Israelites were starved, in poverty, and hard labor that they even went into hiding from the Midianites. As a last resort, Israel cries out to the Lord and in prayer. Instead of always keeping God first, they seek other false gods. Let’s always keep Jesus first, and not as a last resort to answer our prayers.

  5. Verse 16 AMP “The Lord answered him, “I will certainly be with you, and you will strike down the Midianites as [if they were only] one man.” Same verse MSG “God said to him, “I’ll be with you. Believe me, you’ll defeat Midian as one man.” You really don’t need/worry about an army as God is with you and on your side; you just need to have a willing (believing) heart as Gideon found out. Yes, Lord (as we sing today) for the rest of our days!

  6. 16 The Lord said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.” (NLT)

    The Lord is with us; He is fighting with us and for us. How great is my God, so gracious to give another opportunity for all those who sin to come back to Him. God is never the one who leaves, but us. Remember the Lord is always with us and if we just cry out to Him, He will come and answer the call of His children. He will come ready to bring you out of your troubles!

  7. “the LORD sent a prophet to the Israelites. He said, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of slavery in Egypt. I rescued you from the Egyptians and from all who oppressed you. I drove out your enemies and gave you their land. I told you, ‘I am the LORD your God. You must not worship the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you now live.’ But you have not listened to me.””

  8. The angel of the LORD appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the LORD is with you!”

    Then the LORD turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” “But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!” The LORD said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.” (‭Judges‬ ‭6‬:‭12, 14-16‬ NLT)

    You never know when the LORD is about to use you. He can use the least insignificant person/people. Don’t ever underestimate yourself, but TRUST in the word of The Lord when he ‘Is with you’
    Gideon found grace in the eyes of GOD, and for the Glory of GOD, GOD will give him the victory over the enemy! For The LORD heard the cry of Israel!!! Thank You Jesus, for you are The GOD of PEACE!!!!!!

  9. Rebuke Doubt

    14 And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?

    15 And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

    If the Lord says Go, GO!

    So many promises from. God in his word, promises of peace, hope, prosperity, of healing, of divine intervention, of salvation and restoration. Yet we still come to God with excuses. Sometimes we wait for strength or a internal feeling of readiness, but God says, “you don’t need none of that, Go in thy might!

    If God is with us who can be against us, if God has called you, he will equip you, strengthen you, and guide you.

    So what advantage is there out of you not being ready? That God receives all the glory. God is willing to use, but are you willing to go?

  10. 15 Gideon said to him, “Me, my master? How and with what could I ever save Israel? Look at me. My clan’s the weakest in Manasseh and I’m the runt of the litter.”
    16 God said to him, “I’ll be with you. Believe me, you’ll defeat Midian as one man.”

    God chose you to be a leader for a reason. Don’t let anything or anyone tell you that your to small or to young to do anything. If God is with you you can overcome your enemy! Not only can you defeat your enemy’s you can save souls when God is with you! God doesn’t care about physical features but about your willing heart and mind that he can be with you. Let God be with us as we overcome our enemy’s and save souls as we march northward today!

  11. 36 And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,

    37 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.

    38 And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.

    39 And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.

    So many times God calls us to do something, but we are ” God if this is you , Show me a sign, and He does, ok God I trust you, but can you show me anither. He does, but I need to take that step out in Faith, God if this is truly your will, open the door wide and every doir that Is needed to do this thing, God is awesome, if its God youll know because he will back it up with his word, and confirm it with the Man of God in your life, if its not then youll know that too.

    AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE WE WILL TRUST IN THE LORD!

  12. 27 Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the Lord had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father’s household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.

    When God is good it doesn’t matter the time of day that His work is done. Don’t fear the enemy; when the Lord is with you, who can stand against you. Gideon asked all these things of God. He wanted to make sure that he was moving in the will of God and not on his own accord. That is where POFW is at today. Three years of prayer and following the will of God has opened the new land for us to move into. Just as God prepared Gideon to bring up the children of Israel out of the hands of the Midianites and the Amalekites. Destroy the alters of false gods and build one to the one true God……..Thank you Jesus…..Amen!!!

  13. iLove to Grow in the Word

    12The angel of the lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the lord is with you!” 15“But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”

    God knows our potential. It doesn’t matter what opinion we have of ourselves. As long as we are working and doing the best we can to be productive in the kingdom, God will open the doors and give us supernatural strength.

  14. GOD KNOWS

    Occasionally we find ourselves in situations we are unfamiliar with, often challenging and frustrating and all too often the result of decisions that we have made or been associated with. We are BLESSED to recognize that and when the favor or grace of GOD has departed.

    Once the recognition factor kicks in we should be positioned to SEEK the LORD and ask HIS counsel and direction. Following the LORD and his path for VICTORY.

    Lets be sensitive today to what GOD has planned for us. GOD is faithful, mighty and able.

  15. 15 And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

    16 And the Lord said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.

    It doesn’t matter where you have come from. It doesn’t matter how much you may have sinned in the past or what you have done. It doesn’t matter what skills you think you don’t have that disqualifies you from being in ministry. God can use anyone to help save souls into his kingdom! He created you just the way you are for a specific purpose and reason. You may not be a preacher or teacher but that doesn’t mean God can’t use you. Everyone has their part to play in God’s master plan!

  16. Judges 6:14-16
    14) And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?
    15) And he said unto him, Oh, my LORD, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.
    16) And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.

    How many times have I/we felt like Gideon? Inadequate.
    If God calls us to do a job, we need to remember that He will go with us and He will give us the strength to do the job.

    I am reminded of the scripture 2 Cor. 12:9, “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in weakness…”

  17. Judges 6:14-16 (Message)
    14 But God faced him directly: “Go in this strength that is yours. Save Israel from Midian. Haven’t I just sent you?”
    15 Gideon said to him, “Me, my master? How and with what could I ever save Israel? Look at me. My clan’s the weakest in Manasseh and I’m the runt of the litter.”
    16 God said to him, “I’ll be with you. Believe me, you’ll defeat Midian as one man.”

    There is a difference between the way that God sees us and the way that we see ourselves. God sees our destiny, our potential, and hope. He sees us as his children that scrape our knees, and get caught with our hand in the cookie jar.

    We may not always measure up to what we think we should be but God sees it differently. He is a loving father rooting us on like a proud daddy from the football sidelines.

    Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV Strong’s)
    11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

  18. 31 And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.

    32 Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.
    I like the word of Joash here. He simply says if your god is so big and bad why don’t he take care of Gideon himself? ! He realized that obviously there is no power in false gods or else he would not have been able to tear down his altar. we must remember that Jesus Christ is the only true power or authority in this world that nothing is greater than him and that our God is a jealous God and we should love him with everything we have.

  19. Why do we doubt???

    36 And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,

    37 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.

    38 And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.

    39 And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.

    40 And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.

    What happened to if God said it, it is so? Why do we doubt so much? Mostly because we are insecured human beings that are always doubting ourselves, not necessarily God. You see God has all power but we find ourselves thinking about our own power not necessary God’s. Does that makes it right??? No way!!! That is when FAITH is supposed to step in Hebrew 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

    Let’s be strong in Faith and realize that when we have no power GOD HAS ALL POWER!!!!!

  20. And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.
    We have no power, there is nothing or no one that can compare to the one and only God we serve.

  21. “And I said unto you, I am the Lord your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.” The word of God (Jesus) recorded why; “but ye have not obeyed my voice”. The rain falls on the just and unjust; however a continual downpour could be something other. Dear God, forgive me and cleanse me of anything unpleasing too thee, in Jesus name. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  22. “Then the angel of the Lord put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the Lord departed out of his sight.” The angel of the Lord came and departed unannounced and quickly. There will be another returning of the Lord, which we must all ask ourselves; what will we be doing. God help us to keep our eyes on you, in Jesus name.

  23. 15.And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Is’-ra-el? behold, my family is poor in Ma-nas’-she, and I am the least in my father’s house. 16. And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Mid’-I-an-ites as one man. Jesus you are the one true God !!!! Living God !!

    Seeing wonders from Jesus such as these is a beautiful experience, although, in this case, reminded me of this scripture:

    John 20:24-29 KJV
    24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
    25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said unto them, “Unless I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, I will not believe.”
    26 And after eight days the disciples were again within, and Thomas was with them. Then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be unto you.”
    27 Then said He to Thomas, “Reach hither thy finger and behold My hands, and reach hither thy hand and thrust it into My side: and be not faithless, but believing.”
    28 And Thomas answered and said unto Him, “My Lord and my God!”
    29 Jesus said unto him, “Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed. Blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed.”

  26. Sometimes we need to make an altar for the lord out of the idols in our lives or the lives of the community. When we do, we will upset some people, but God is for us.

  27. Fear

    Even though Gideon operated out of fear God honored his obedience. If Gideon truly were confident in God then he would have acted in the day time, for all to see. Fear often times grips us to the point of quitting. People can be paralyzed or recant what they are doing suddenly when they are held by fear. The thing that we need to remember is that if God has given us a promise, dream, vision, mission, purpose, or task He will give us the resources to complete it. All we have to do is step out on faith and keep pressing toward the final goal.

  28. 21 Then the angel of the Lord put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the Lord departed out of his sight.

    22 And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the Lord, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord God! for because I have seen an angel of the Lord face to face.

    23 And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.

  29. 7 And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord because of the Midianites,

    8 That the Lord sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

    9 And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land;

    10 And I said unto you, I am the Lord your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.

    Many times we the people of God will pray and cry out to God for answer on a situation. It is at that time that we should pay attention tonthe voice of the man of God in our lives. We seek direction and should be willing to hear out and trust who God will use to speak into your life.

  30. 25 And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:
    26 And build an altar unto the Lord thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.

    God will fight our battles after we’ve thrown down the idols in our life. He is a jealous God willing to give us the time and chance to repent and return to him. Then he will fight for us, destroying the works of the enemy in our lives.

  31. “Gideon said to God, “If this is right, if you are using me to save Israel as you’ve said, then look: I’m placing a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If dew is on the fleece only, but the floor is dry, then I know that you will use me to save Israel, as you said.”

    That’s what happened. When he got up early the next morning, he wrung out the fleece—enough dew to fill a bowl with water! Then Gideon said to God, “Don’t be impatient with me, but let me say one more thing. I want to try another time with the fleece. But this time let the fleece stay dry, while the dew drenches the ground.” God made it happen that very night. Only the fleece was dry while the ground was wet with dew.”

     God is so patient so loving and kind toward us.
