Judges 13

1 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.

3 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:

5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:

7 But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.

8 Then Manoah intreated the Lord, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

9 And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.

10 And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.

11 And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.

12 And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?

13 And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.

14 She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.

15 And Manoah said unto the angel of the Lord, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.

16 And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the Lord. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the Lord.

17 And Manoah said unto the angel of the Lord, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?

18 And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?

19 So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the Lord: and the angel did wonderously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.

20 For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

21 But the angel of the Lord did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the Lord.

22 And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.

23 But his wife said unto him, If the Lord were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.

24 And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the Lord blessed him.

25 And the Spirit of the Lord began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

  1. Should I be afraid of God???

I’ve talked to a few people about God and they said that God hates me and are afraid of Him. I pray that they see God for who He really is and that He’s an all loving God. If we love God we won’t be afraid of Him. We should fear him in a godly fear but not be afraid of Him.

In this chapter it sounded like the husband in this chapter was a little afraid of God. But his wife was persistent to see God and who He really is.

  2. THE PRICE OF EVIL IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD

1 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

Forty years of captivity for their evil actions. Forty years of bondage, not like their fathers that died in the wilderness, but 40 years of carnal bondage. No longer slaves to the tasks of others, but slaves to the desires of others.

May the LORD help us to count the cost of evil thoughts, communications and actions.

  3. 8. Manoah (to the Lord): Eternal One, please let the man of God whom you sent visit us again and teach us what to do with the boy You are giving us.

    12. Manoah: When your words come true, what rules should we apply to the boy? What is his mission in life? Voice

We also should seek the Lord for guidance and instruction in raising our children, and pray that His will be done in their lives.

  4. This chapter speaks about the birth of Samson and how the angel of the Lord spoke to his parents about his birth. They did not realize exactly who they were talking to until they saw the miraculous happen. The Lord sends different people, different situations and avenues to bring us to know who He is. Let us be sensitive and let the Lord use us (POFW) to bring more people into His marvelous light. I pray that there be a stirring up as verse 25 says NLT “And the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him while he lived in Mahaneh-dan, which is located between the towns of Zorah and Eshtaol.

  5. “And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭13:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  6. iLove to Grow in the Word

16“I will stay,” the angel of the lord replied, “but I will not eat anything. However, you may prepare a burnt offering as a sacrifice to the lord.” (Manoah didn’t realize it was the angel of the lord.)

Great instruction from the angel of the Lord, the heavenly host in heaven understand the importance of sacrifice to God. It is a shame that some blood bought children of God do not understand the importance.

  7. 8 Then Manoah intreated the Lord, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

9 And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.

See there are those out there that don’t trust in the word of God; nor do they trust those that say I have heard from the Lord. Like here Manoah’s wife heard from an angel of the Lord, but Manoah had a fear that kept him from trusting in what his wife said. The angel came to them again and restated to Manoah what he had prophesied to Manoah’s wife. This is where faith comes in. Even though we don’t always see what’s going on; doesn’t mean that it’s not happening. Trust what you hear from God and share it with others. Remember there will be murmurers, complainers; people will complain about all that we do and say. Keep God’s word no matter what.

Jude 1:16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.

Have a blessed day and God be with you……Thank you Jesus….Amen!!!

  8. 20 For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

I liked this verse because it tells us about.

Have a blessed day and all of try to get the Holy Ghost…… Thank you all plus Jesus….Amen!!!

  9. 20 For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

I liked this verse because it tells us about the angel coming to Manoah and his wife and blessing Manoah’s wife with a child.

Have a blessed day, all of you try to get the Holy Ghost…..Thank you Jesus and all….Amen!!!

  10. Judges 13:21-23 (NLT)
21 The angel did not appear again to Manoah and his wife. Manoah finally realized it was the angel of the Lord, 22 and he said to his wife, “We will certainly die, for we have seen God!”
23 But his wife said, “If the Lord were going to kill us, he wouldn’t have accepted our burnt offering and grain offering. He wouldn’t have appeared to us and told us this wonderful thing and done these miracles.”

If God be for us who can be against us? Not God. We already established that. He is for us.

Manoah only revealed how much he doesn’t know God or his word. The more time we spend with the Lord we will know him better. When things like this happen we can trust in his character that he truly does have our best interest at heart!

  11. 24 And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the Lord blessed him.
25 And the Spirit of the Lord began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

Because of their obedience God was able to bless. It is through our obedience that we recieve blessings.

  12. 12 And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?

As parents and teachers we all need God’s help in raising our children! We need to teach them the ways of holiness and what the bible states for us to do. And teach it to them at a young age, the more of the word that gets put into their bodies, all the better!

  13. 7 B ut he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.
This verse shows us that God desires separation in our lives from anything that would defile our temples. He wants us to be clean and pure from the inside out so that we can be separated unto him and pleasing to him. The bible says to come out and be separated from the world. This is how we show our commitment to God.

  14. 1 Again the Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight, so the Lord handed them over to the Philistines, who oppressed them for forty years. (NLT)

Doing evil puts you against God and consequences will come. “…Choose you this day whom ye will serve;” (Joshua 24:15).

  15. 18 He replied, “Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding.[a]”

Some things God does it’s beyond our understanding and we will know one day. Everything God does is on his time and when he wants us to know he will open our understanding to see his ways. What a mighty God we serve!

  16. 20 For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

21 But the angel of the Lord did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the Lord.

  17. My God will open wombs!!!

3 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

This verse is close to my heart for I held on to it strongly and the Lord open my womb and I gave birth to a beautiful daughter. The Lords timing is perfect in more ways than one. We must learn to trust Him and wait for His perfect timing. I also remember something that Bro Michael Bower taught me once whatever happens in the physical world will also happen in the spiritual realm. Are we ready for our wombs to be open and give birth spiritually?? Let us trust the Lord so POFW to grow expeditiously and remember we must nurture each and every one of them until they reach their full potential. In Jesus Name Amen

  18. 14She must not eat grapes or raisins, drink wine or any other alcoholic drink, or eat any forbidden food.”

When the Lord gives specific instructions we should follow them. Just like being at work, we follow specific instructions to complete a task or there could be consequences.

  19. Judges 13:18 (AMP)
“But the Angel of the LORD said unto him, “Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful (miraculous)?

And His Name Shall Be Called WONDERFUL… (Isaiah 9:6)

This reminded me of the chorus to a song that Sandi Patty sings.
For He’s more wonderful than my mind can conceive
He’s more wonderful than my heart can believe
He goes beyond my highest hopes and fondest dreams
He’s everything that my soul ever longed for,
Everything He’s promised and so much more
More than amazing, more than marvelous,
More than miraculous could ever be
He’s more than wonderful, that’s what JESUS is to me.

  20. 5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

Sampson was destined to voluntarily make a vow of consecration and separation unto God. Gods will was to do great and mighty things thru this child as we were destined and as our children are destined.

It is our duty to make sure that we as Manoah make sure we know how to instruct our children in the way God wants us to keep them. For them to be brought up as modern day Nazarites, that is there adolescence they willingly make a vow to consecrate themselves to God.

It’s is our responsibility to ensure there success in there walk with God.

  21. “And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the Lord. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the Lord.” The word of God (Jesus) illustrated sociability. One should show kindness unto all, as one may never know whom one is talking with. Dear God, let our words be, as yours would be. May God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  22. “But his wife said unto him, If the Lord were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.” We should never forget the Lord offered himself out of love, so that we may one day be with him; however the choice is ours. We should also remember the Lord’s voice will never be; deceptive, doubtful, condescending, or negative. God let us only hear your voice, in Jesus name.

  23. I want to see an angel in that manner. One that is a human form that left me no doubt that it was an angel. I believe this is a spiritual place for many of us to be. I want to get there.

  24. You know sometimes when we are given instructions we don’t understand why we may have to do it this way, or that way. We need to step back and look at the bigger Picture its not about me, but the next generation that is coming up…our children, and their children and I pray it doesn’t stop there so help me God to do everything I know to do that is right in the sight of my God.

  25. 6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:

7 But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.

  26. 22 And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.

23 But his wife said unto him, If the Lord were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
    what a wise woman!

  27. 8 Then Manoah intreated the Lord, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

The wisest thing to do is to seek the face of God and ask for his counsel for he shall direct our paths. We see here that God honors such prayers and will respond.

In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

  28. 1 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

After their many victories, Israel is now again captive to the Philistines for 40 years. I am surprised that they didn’t didn’t cry out to God for deliverance before these 40 years were up. Instead God intervenes and prepares a man to begin their deliverance from this nation. So…
Why are we content to be 2nd class citizens when the Lord says we are the head, not the tail. We are the apple of his eye, victorious and overcomers through the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony. I do not want to be a captive for 40 years before realizing I can be free! We must declare our victory even during the storm, shout the victory while still captive – we can overcome through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  29. An angel appears first to Manoah’s wife and then to her and her husband together. When they offer a burnt offering in the angels presence the Angel asscends “in the flame” vs 20. Quite naturally they are terrified Manoah cries out cries out “We’re going to die!” But what is the response of Manoah’s wife? With a “come on now attitude” she tells her husband that if the angel was going to kill them that he would have already done so. Instead the Angel tells them they will have a son. This isn’t the first time a couple temper each other’s personality. Perhaps it’s one of the nicer functions of becoming “one” (Gen 2:24). Our excitability is tempered by his practicality. His temper is lightened by our patience to soften each other’s rough edges.

  30. 22. And Ma-no’-ah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. 23. But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these. 24. And the woman bare a son, and called his name Sam’-son: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him. 25. And the Spir’-it of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zo’-rah and Esh’-ta-ol. Nothing is impossible with the LORD !!!!
