Judges 17
1 And there was a man of mount Ephraim, whose name was Micah.
2 And he said unto his mother, The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from thee, about which thou cursedst, and spakest of also in mine ears, behold, the silver is with me; I took it. And his mother said, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my son.
3 And when he had restored the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother, his mother said, I had wholly dedicated the silver unto the Lord from my hand for my son, to make a graven image and a molten image: now therefore I will restore it unto thee.
4 Yet he restored the money unto his mother; and his mother took two hundred shekels of silver, and gave them to the founder, who made thereof a graven image and a molten image: and they were in the house of Micah.
5 And the man Micah had an house of gods, and made an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.
6 In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
7 And there was a young man out of Bethlehemjudah of the family of Judah, who was a Levite, and he sojourned there.
8 And the man departed out of the city from Bethlehemjudah to sojourn where he could find a place: and he came to mount Ephraim to the house of Micah, as he journeyed.
9 And Micah said unto him, Whence comest thou? And he said unto him, I am a Levite of Bethlehemjudah, and I go to sojourn where I may find a place.
10 And Micah said unto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me a father and a priest, and I will give thee ten shekels of silver by the year, and a suit of apparel, and thy victuals. So the Levite went in.
11 And the Levite was content to dwell with the man; and the young man was unto him as one of his sons.
12 And Micah consecrated the Levite; and the young man became his priest, and was in the house of Micah.
13 Then said Micah, Now know I that the Lord will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest.

5. Micah had a shrine, and in his house he had a priestly vest used in seeking oracles and the images of household gods. He had set aside one of his sons to be his priest.

It doesn’t seem that he much cared who was priest in his house, as long as he just had someone fill the office…one would do until someone he liked better came along.
Sadly, this is the way many people choose a church and/or pastor. They are not careful about the decision, as long as they can tell people they have one.

12So Micah installed the Levite as his personal priest, and he lived in Micah’s house. 13“I know the lord will bless me now,” Micah said, “because I have a Levite serving as my priest.”
This is how the majority of the World thinks about joining the church. They think just because they come to church and pay their tithes that they will be ok with God.
Micah said, “Stay here with me. Be my father and priest. I’ll pay you ten pieces of silver a year, whatever clothes you need, and your meals.” The Levite agreed and moved in with Micah. The young man fit right in and became one of the family. Micah appointed the young Levite as his priest. This all took place in Micah’s home.
Micah said, “Now I know that GOD will make things go well for me—why, I’ve got a Levite for a priest!” (Judges 17:10-13 MSG)
No amount of money can ever buy or bring salvation into your life!!! The word of The Lord can never be manipulated.
‘Man did which was right in his own eyes’ pretty much is the way people are living. But GOD AGAIN SAYS in proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

To live your life without the King in your life is a dangerous place to be.
Judges 17-6, “In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.” (NLT)
Prov. 14:12, “There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death ” (NLT)
Prov. 21:2, “People may be right in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their heart.” (NLT)
Be careful doing “your own thing,” and what might seem alright to you may not be alright with God. Don’t follow your own will, but follow the will of God.
6 In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
We’re not talking about people who chose to do wrong here. They chose to do right; but they chose for themselves what was right. These are sincere people who said, “I want to do right, but I will decide what’s right.” Proverbs 21:2, “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.” Nothing is hid from the eyes of the Lord (Hebrews 4:13). God sees our very thoughts and pondereth our heart (Psalms 139:1-7).
Did Eve eat of the tree for sinful reasons or to be able to determine what is right and wrong. Satan states, “you’ll be as gods knowing good and evil”. Eve did what was right in her eyes; to understand the difference between good and evil; like a god. Catholics have decided that it is right to chant “Hail Mary” and bow to statues. The Vatican has decided that it is right to confess your sins to a wicked priest who is saturated with sins himself.
These are sincere people who all said, “I will do what is right, but I will decide what is right.” We had better get right with God, and stop making our own decisions. God decides what is right and wrong – He even wrote it down for all to read! There are many sincere people who want to do right, but they want to decide for themselves what is good and evil. The consequences are deadly. Proverb 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

Hallelujah….we are living in the times where many people want to live like if there is no king. They might believe a king exist but believe because of the great mercy God has, they think they are saved. I thank. the Lord to be where I’m at. Being in a place that I know I am being fed and taken care of. Thank the Lord for the husband that I have, a husband that will keep me in check because he loves me. Thank you Jesus for everything!!!! You are my King!!!!

Repentance can bring you from a curse to a blessing!

People doing their own thing?! That sounds familiar. We need authority and leadership in our lives, and not of ourselves but someone to be submitted and accountable to. Accountability in any situation, gives our lives structure, without it, we’re off doing just what “seems right.” And seeming right, especially in our own eyes, not only tends to be what’s not right, but is what gets us into all kinds of sticky situations and twisted morals. Examples? Just look around.
And Micah said unto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me a father and a priest, and I will give thee ten shekels of silver by the year, and a suit of apparel, and thy victuals. So the Levite went in.
Take care of the man of God.
This is our charge to take care of our man of God.

Micah’s mother blessed him for returning the eleven hundred shekels of silver that he had stolen. Micah’s mother had him use the silver to make gods, and ephod and a teraphim. Micah also made his son the priest to worship other gods in his own house. I see how Micah was blessed by his mom the peace offering she gave him was good until it was used to do ungodly things. It’s the purpose behind it and Micah thought it was right and didn’t see anything wrong with it. Parents are examples to their children if not they are at risk in turning their own children into becoming lost souls. It’s not too late to help them know that there is only one God, Jesus Christ and to make him first in their lives.

11-12 The Levite agreed and moved in with Micah. The young man fit right in and became one of the family. Micah appointed the young Levite as his priest. This all took place in Micah’s home.

This sums up many people today. They are paying someone to be their “priest” so they can control them, or do whatever they want and still feel like they are covered.
There’s nothing that takes the place of the line of submission that God has put into place. You can’t substitute it, you can’t prostitute it and you can’t dissolve it.
We all need the headship of the “priest” in our lines, the Pastor.

First of all verse 6 teaches us that; people without a Leader will do what they think is right in their own eyes. Chaos, confusion and corruption follow these situations.
Michah is an example of how this corruption works, when you do not have a Pastor. Micah chose his own gods and chose his son as his priest.

When we make our own rules and statutes because we have no leader, the deception of our own control leads to chasing your own spiritual authority. This is the deceptive trap that Micah has fallen into.
Michah, now realizing that his son is not sufficient, happens to find a young minister looking for a place and a people to preach to and offers to pay him and give him a home to be his own hand picked, personal pastor and proclaims a blessing on himself.
Thats how you do it?
When did Micah pray to GOD?
Where did Micah see the LORD?
How did Micah humble himself in the sight of the LORD?
Who did GOD send to be his Pastor?
The New Testament believer is instructed in the book of Romans
Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Micah thought he could pick his own preacher And determine his future but God doesn’t work like that. God send us Real Men of God to sit under and to serve with we can not take it into our own hands because we are not able to do so that’s in God’s hands.

Without leadership in your life, you will get yourself into messy situations . We cannot just live for ourselves and expect God to provide us with everything we lack. It takes a prayer life, the word of God, and listening to the man and woman of God to do what is truly right!!
Today, we do the same thing as Micah… not hire our priest in our home. But we in our house we will make other things as our God by giving them the time and effort in our lives instead of keeping God first place in our lives. Nothing should replace having God as being our number one in our lives, which if you’re spending your time on entertainment, money or other earthly things than God is not first in your life.

This is the same today for those that have no God. Their perception is that their ways are right an everyone else wrong.
I thank God for my Pastor and Sis. Watts and for the leadership that God has placed in my life. Being under Godly authority is a great place to be. Thank you Jesus.
2 One day he said to his mother, “I heard you place a curse on the person who stole 1,100 pieces of silver from you. Well, I have the money. I was the one who took it.” “The LORD bless you for admitting it,” his mother replied.
This all a parent wants from their child, is to be honest and truthful at all times. They only way a child knows to be honest, is if they see the example set by their parents. As the child grows and matures, they know the difference between right and wrong.

Where there is no law and order there is chaos. You cant buy your own preist although thats what people have done in many instances. People go where they feel comfortable but not where they are challenged to grow in Christ.

You know its sad when we think that God who’s us because were doing good. I know the world have this mentally, God forbid we bring this into church.
The term “Everyone did as he saw fit” is scary when it comes to the people of God. When they are not in order with his commandments because “where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Ps 29:18). It leads them into confusion mixing of the insence of praise to the one true God with false gods. Micah established not only his own household idols but also his own place to worship with his own Levite priest in some way to legitimize his false worship of idols. This reminds me we cannot be lukewarm Christians one foot in and one foot out. Lord I choose to be sold out.
13 Then said Micah, Now know I that the Lord will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest.
Micah had a knowledge of the things of God without having a relationship with Him. In some ways he fulfilled the scripture that says:
2 Timothy 3:1-5
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
v6 In those days there was no King in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

JESUS knows how to lead us in paths of righteousness.

“Then said Micah, Now know I that the Lord will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest.” The word of God (Jesus) identified that Micah had reverence; however it may have been too much. One should be mindful, as the creation (man) cannot save one’s soul; whereas the Creator (Jesus) has all power. Dear God, let us never forget as the old song goes “it’s all in you”. May God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

Wholly in this case did not mean all. The Lord gave all and for all, and not just a portion as was the case here. The answer to our dilemma may just be that we have not wholly given all too the Lord. God help us give wholly of self too you, as you gave wholly of self for us, in Jesus name.

Israel became disobedient and unfaithful to serve God and to follow his commandments and laws. Without a king or a shepherd to guide them they are lost in there own ways and they were tempted to do whatever there flesh desires.
Amen!
When you participate in an action that is wrong, you can always do something to make it right.
The mentioning of a king and people doing want they want suggest that this account was written during the monarchy. The favorable impression of the monarchy also suggest that it was written before the spilt. If this is the case, it would have been written close toward the beginning of the first millennium BC. This view is in contrast of those who take a mid first millennial view of the writing of the scriptures that critical scholars take.
In reading this chapter, it made me think about how we cannot take something that has been cursed and try to justify it as right. We also cannot just follow anybody as your leader. There are so many out there that say they are sent by God; when in reality they are not. One must be very careful and know the voice of your shepherd.
Judges 17:10-12 (Modern English Version)
10 Micah said to him, “Live with me, and be a father and a priest for me. I will give you ten silver coins a year, a set of clothes, and food.” So the Levite went in. 11 The Levite decided to live with the man, and the young man became like one of his sons. 12 Micah ordained the Levite, and the young man became his priest and lived in the house of Micah.
Micah the idol worshipper took the Levite and made him a priest. Just because the money, clothes, and position is good doesn’t mean it’s the will of God. Let God lead you. This is the way you know that l you are his son.

Maybe I am reading this wrong, but Micah’s mother blessed him when he confessed that he had stolen the money in question. perhaps she blessed him because he returned it, but where was parental direction/correction? If 200 shekels paid the young priest for a whole year, eleven hundred shekels is a lot of money! But in this time, we read that everyone was doing what right in their own eyes, there was no king, no godly leadership. God’s word does so many things for us: corrects, rebukes, instructs, leads & guides. Without a man of God, a Pastor, we are a drift, doing what is right in our own eyes. Lord, thank you for your word and a Pastor so I am not left to live according to my own ways.
No King

We serve a risen savior who is the King of kings. One sure way to evaluate if you personally, the church you are attending, or your home is kingless is by evaluating selfishness.
A sure sign that God has been dethroned is that everyone starts doing what they want to do and think they are right in their own eyes and refuse to yield to one another and God.
Yielding is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. For it takes a man or women of strength to know when to yield and know when to stand firm. It takes a man or women of strength to ensure they are not God-less in a society that continues to push God away.
You can’t buy off God. When we try to make our own ways and then pay others to follow or be with us, God does not bless that.
