Judges 18

1 In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.

2 And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their coasts, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they lodged there.

3 When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite: and they turned in thither, and said unto him, Who brought thee hither? and what makest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?

4 And he said unto them, Thus and thus dealeth Micah with me, and hath hired me, and I am his priest.

5 And they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.

6 And the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before the Lord is your way wherein ye go.

7 Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.

8 And they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brethren said unto them, What say ye?

9 And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful to go, and to enter to possess the land.

10 When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.

11 And there went from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of war.

12 And they went up, and pitched in Kirjathjearim, in Judah: wherefore they called that place Mahanehdan unto this day: behold, it is behind Kirjathjearim.

13 And they passed thence unto mount Ephraim, and came unto the house of Micah.

14 Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do.

15 And they turned thitherward, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even unto the house of Micah, and saluted him.

16 And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, which were of the children of Dan, stood by the entering of the gate.

17 And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war.

18 And these went into Micah’s house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, What do ye?

19 And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?

20 And the priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.

21 So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the carriage before them.

22 And when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah’s house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.

23 And they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?

24 And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee?

25 And the children of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows run upon thee, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household.

26 And the children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.

27 And they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire.

28 And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrehob. And they built a city, and dwelt therein.

29 And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.

30 And the children of Dan set up the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.

31 And they set them up Micah’s graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

  1. iLove to Grow in the Word

Judges 18:5-6 NLT Then they said, “Ask God whether or not our journey will be successful.” (6) “Go in peace,” the priest replied. “For the LORD is watching over your journey.”

Oh my…as I read this I immediately thought about the Charismatic prosperity preachers who preach blab it and grab it, name it and claim it. Many people have asked me why there are so many different denominations in the world today. The answer is found it today’s blog. People just make stuff up. :/

  2. 1 In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.

2 And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their coasts, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they lodged there.

We should seek our inheritance in the Lord not in things of the world.

  3. 19. “Be quiet and come with us,” they said. “Be a father and priest to all of us. Isn’t it better to be a priest for an entire tribe and clan of Israel than for the household of just one man?”

    20. The young priest was quite happy to go with them, so he took along the sacred ephod, the household idols, and the carved image.

As I’ve heard from older Ministers about young men that went “into Ministry”:

    Some were called,
    Some were sent,
Some just got up and went.

  4. 9 And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful to go, and to enter to possess the land.
10 When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.

Posses the Land! Take the land. Work the land. And then thrive in the land.

  5. 24 And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee?

Anything from this world that you put before God can be taken away from you, but Jesus can never be taken away from you! The only thing that can happen to separate you from the love of God is if you walk away from it. Don’t walk away from the love of God! For he is our salvation and strength. Without Jesus we don’t have a purpose in this world.

But with Jesus, he has a calling for our lives and nothing in this world can take that away from us.

  6. 18 And these went into Micah’s house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image.

Here it’s a little confusing that a priest would need graven images and idols to serve God. Those things are for other gods; my God is greater than anything that can be made up. There is to much fake in the world; it’s not needed in the House of God. This is why I love POFW; nobody is fake. Everybody is the same outside of the House and in the House. Thank you Jesus for POFW. We all have our faults, but let’s just be who we are through the eyes of God…………..Thank you Jesus…..Amen!!!

  7. THE DANGER OF ISOLATION

JESUS gave HIS life for the church, the “body of Christ”, the Family or Household of GOD”. Both of these New Testament illustrations indicate and support a unified effort. A body of working together, a people of purpose and unity. Not an indication of isolation and personal effort and devotion.

The people of Laish seem to be people of resources and personal security, only they kept to themselves. Possibly they were arrogant and unapproachable; feeling as if they were untouchable, because of their financial and social status. Possibly they had been wounded by previous situations or relationships, GOD knows.

What we know is that they were vulnerable to the attack of an adversary and this scripture indicates the same. Isolation from others and personal security alone are not enough to protect us from the elements of our adversaries. A simple relationship and or friendship would have kept them protected.

I encourage you today to unify with the body of Christ, get in formation with the VISION of the House of the LORD. Be kindly affectionate one toward another. Slow to anger and quick to forgive.

SOMEDAY the attack will be larger than we can handle, we ALL will need some assistance.

  8. 28 And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrehob. And they built a city, and dwelt therein.

Don’t be to far! Stay close. Stay connected.

  9. EASY COME, EASY GO

27 And they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire.

Micah’s personal god and personal priest that he had set up and established was taken away from him just as simple and easy as he set it up. We learn the dangers of setting up our own little kingdoms.

JESUS is the KING of Kings and LORD of Lords. If we attempt any other plan or process than the established order that JESUS died for, we are setting up for failure.

We should give ourselves to serve in the VISION of the House of the LORD we JESUS has placed us. Seeking out our own leader and lord is only a temporary fix to a deeper problem. The deeper problem is submission to authority. Every government, law enforcement and military branch utilize the process of authority and submission to serve and protect us. I am extremely thankful for the sacrifices of each of these entities that cover us as we live out the freedoms of our great nation. The UNITED States of AMERICA.

GOD bless the USA, GOD bless Israel and I pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

  10. 24 “What do you mean, ‘What’s the matter?’” Micah replied. “You’ve taken away all the gods I have made, and my priest, and I have nothing left!” (NLT)

Reason number…? of why not to worship idols. We worship the one true living God that is omnipresent; He is Emmanuel! No one can give you Jesus and no one can take Jesus away from you. He lives in us and I thank God for who He is because we never have to fret like Micah. Even when it seems we have “nothing left,” we still have Jesus and His love and that’s all I need!

  11. 28 And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrehob. And they built a city, and dwelt therein.
Because these people never had anyone to be their protection or to be under when the trouble came there was no deliverer. It’s important not to isolate ourselves and separate ourselves from the house of God or from authority in our lives because when we do so we leave ourselves open to attack.

  12. 19 And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?

There is a huge difference between a ‘hirling’ and a ‘shepherd’. A hirling will desert you in time of trouble, but a shepherd will stand his ground and protect. A pay raise made this priest happy to leave Micah. It makes me doubt his ability to ‘hear a word’ from the Lord. But due to the isolation of the people of Laish and that the Lord had already given them this promised land, the tribe of Dan was able to overcome and take possession of this city and lands.

  13. 19 And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?

20 And the priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.

  14. 6 And the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before the Lord is your way wherein ye go.

It cool that we can have peace
Infac we can have peace every because i know the lord is with me every step of the way that y we should have the holy ghost the holy ghost give us peace

  15. Judges 18:18-20 (NLT)
    18) When the priest saw the men carrying all the sacred objects out of Micah’s shrine, he said, “What are you doing?”
    19) “Be quiet and come with us,” they said. “Be a father and priest to all of us. Isn’t it better to be a priest for an entire tribe and clan of Israel than for the household of just one man?”
    20) The young priest was quite happy to go with them, so he took along the sacred ephod, the household idols, and the carved images.

    What a wishy washy priest.

So thankful that the Great High Priest, Jesus Christ, never changes. He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Heb. 13:8). And we have a promise in His Word that He will never leave us nor forsake us. (Heb.13:5)

Thank You JESUS for your Faithfulnes !!

  16. In this chapter many things had occurred, but you can see how they respected authority by seeking guidance from their priest in order to prosper. They also indicated for the priest to be over the entire city versus only one. This sounds like our High Priest, who died for us all.

Better for one man to perish rather than entire Nation.

    Just an observation…………

  17. Judges 18:19-20 (Modern English Version)
19 They said to him, “Quiet! Put your hand over your mouth and go with us. Be a father and priest for us. Is it better to be a priest for one man’s house or for a tribe and a family in Israel?” 20 So the priest’s heart was glad. He took the ephod, the household idols, and the carved image and went among the people.

I remember being at a party with a bunch of bikers when I was in the world. I had been backslidden for awhile and tried to blend in. However one of the guys looked real deep into my eyes and said something I’ll never forget. “You don’t belong here. You are not supposed to be here.”

I tried to shrug it off but in that brief moment I knew what he was talking about. A child of God doesn’t belong at a biker party.

I’m thankful that God delivered me just like he delivered the priest.

  18. When God is your provider there is no need for want. He will give you what you need and then some because that’s the kind of God we serve. The one who knows how to make a way out of no way.

  19. The Danites sook to take an inheritance because one was not given to them. They were ready to move in haste not worried about Gods will or timing. They forgot God will provide our every need. So they sent out five spy’s to scout the land to mount Ephraim where Micah lived. They were surprised to see a Levite ministering to only one family and not a nation of Israel. So they saw the Levite outside of Gods will and still asked for advice about overtaking the land. They saw that the land was good. Not only did they take and burn the city they took the false Gods with them. They started their conquest with the wrong heart asked the wrong person for advice and took off with things that weren’t meant for them to worship.

  20. 6 The priest answered them, “Go in peace. Your journey has the Lord’s approval.”

What a awesome God we serve! If God is with us then who can be against us!? Thank you God for bring peace when we walk in the journey you have planed for us!

  21. v 19 And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?
v20 And the priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod, the teraphim, and the
graven images, and went in the midst of the people.

What shallowness of experience only concerned with themselves and satisfying their own needs.
Regrettably, not every person who” labors” in and around the Church have pure motives.

Wherever we serve in the body of JESUS CHRIST , …Let us gladly serve as HIS ministers to the needs of others.

” As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” 1 Peter 4:10

  22. Verse 7 CEV says “The five men left and went to the town of Laish, whose people were from Sidon,[a] but Sidon was too far away to protect them. Even though their town had no walls, the people thought they were safe from attack. So they had not asked anyone else[b] for protection, which meant that the tribe of Dan could easily take over Laish.[c]” These people were not in unity with anybody. We must remember how important it is for us to come together in unity and shared vision for what the Lord wants us to do in this City.

  23. 18 And these went into Micah’s house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image.

A true man of God will not just go with anyone but seek the Lord and a true man of God is put up by God. What was more alarming is that the people didnt care who this individual was or if he truely heard from God but just commanded that he be their preist.

  24. “So they said to him, “Please inquire of God, that we may know whether the journey on which we go will be prosperous.””(Judges‬ ‭18:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Micah thought it was a sign of God’s favour to him and his images, that a Levite should come to his door. Thus those who please themselves with their own delusions, if Providence unexpectedly bring any thing to their hands that further them in their evil way, are apt from thence to think that God is pleased with them.

  25. “When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.” The word of God (Jesus) stated they felt secure (safe/protected). Someone paid the price and sacrificed for their freedom, which they took for granted; as such they were defeated. The reason America is free is because God (Creator) was feared and reverenced by God fearing men and women, which paid the price, and sacrificed. One that cannot see the resemblance today, is in denial. America needs to repent and cry out, while there is still freedom to do so (not all have this freedom). Dear God, forgive us and bless us with God (Judge) fearing leaders, in Jesus name. May God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  26. “And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee?” The problem is he made them; “gods which I made”. There are many that sadly do the same today, which some are aware and others are not. The question we all should ask ourselves is, what is most important, or what takes precedence in my life. The answer is usually what is talked about the most, either verbally or in our heart. God, let us never forget to put you first; as the cross proves to all, where you put us.

  27. Priests for hire. The false priest was glad to accept a promotion. They were all seeking their own end. What an unfortunate event for the tribe who was trusting of strangers. The spies would be a critical factor in their demise.

  28. Some people are easily persuaded… To avoid allowing yourself to be involved with the wrong things for wrong reasons you should take the time to study and pray for what your next steps in life should be.

  29. 6. And the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before the Lord is your way wherein ye go.

The Levite hired by Micah told the tribe of Dan that
God was pleased and to go in peace. He said exactly what they wanted to hear. It’s unfortunate but true.

  30. 17 And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war.

It is necessary to tear down the idols we have erected in our lives, before we can use the power and weapons of war spiritually God has given us. One of the first commandments is to “have no other Gods before me.”

  31. “They answered him, “Be quiet! Don’t say a word. Come with us. Be our father and priest. You can serve a whole tribe and family group in Israel as our priest. Isn’t that better than serving just one man’s family?” The priest was glad. He took the linen apron and the family gods. He also took the statue of a god that was made out of wood or stone. Then he left with the people.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭18:19-20‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Thankful for a Good Shepherd and not a hired man.

“”I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep. The hired man is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when the hired man sees the wolf coming, he leaves the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired man. He does not care about the sheep. “I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep, and my sheep know me. They know me just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I give my life for the sheep.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭10:11-15‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

  32. 5 Then they said, “Ask God whether or not our journey will be successful.”

What simple concept, all we have to do is ask God for what we need or want. Pray to God daily, speak with him, and he will hear your prayers.

  33. 1. IN those days there was no king in Is’-ra-el: and in those days the tribe of the Dan’-ites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Is’-ra-el. 2. And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their coasts, men of valour, from Zo’-rah, and from Esh’-ta-ol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount E’-phra-I’m, to the house of Mi’-cah, they lodged there. HALLELUJAH !!!!

  34. You get into a sticky position when you start paying your preist. Then he can no longer listen to God and obey. He can no longer tell you of your short comings. You are spiritually lost.
