Judges 21

1 Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.

2 And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore;

3 And said, O Lord God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel?

4 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

5 And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the Lord? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the Lord to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.

6 And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.

7 How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the Lord that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?

8 And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the Lord? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.

9 For the people were numbered, and, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead there.

10 And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.

11 And this is the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.

12 And they found among the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

13 And the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them.

14 And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabeshgilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.

15 And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the Lord had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

16 Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?

17 And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.

18 Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.

19 Then they said, Behold, there is a feast of the Lord in Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.

20 Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;

21 And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.

22 And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.

23 And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.

24 And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.

25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

  1. 25 In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.

Israel continues to be without a king or a leader. Its basically a nation without laws, rules or regulations. Everyone doing what they feel is right. Kinda sounds like today here in our own country, the political correctness crowd. The PC crowd have no moral values, and everyone should do what they want to do. That everyone do as they please, with no consequences or be accountable for their actions.

  2. MAKE UP THE RULES AS YOU GO

25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

Where there is no king, government or leadership. People are forced to create policy and procedure as they arrive at certain situations. This chapter is filled with those opportunities.

Our lives are filled with similar opportunities; some hold grudges, some have needs, some are unfaithful. The danger zone of life is when an individual feels untouchable; can’t be influenced, won’t be instructed, offended when corrected, proud, arrogant and unrepentant. Spiritually this is a very dangerous position to be in.

We have read repeatedly “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes”. Kings administer leadership, govern laws and administer guidelines. A modern day thought could be “In those days there was no Pastor in Fort Worth: every man did that which was right in his own eyes. We have yet to read that “everyone did what is right in GOD’s eyes.”

    Why?

We make selfish decisions and choices that benefit us. This reveals the value of the body of Christ, because we are able to network with like believers to accomplish a larger goal. It is even more productive when we have a structure and strong leaders to administer that structure.

JESUS help us to be UNITED for the purpose of your Kingdom. Thank you for Godly leaders in our lives.

  3. 22 And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.

  4. This chapter reveals and shows us how unstable one can be without a king (Pastor). It seemed like they (the people of Israel) were grasping at straws and making things up as they went to get the end result that they wanted. It is a very scary place to put yourself in when you think you don’t need instruction, accountability or be obedient to no one. The Lord has placed very special leaders in our lives for a reason. It is then up to us to make a good decision and follow; for the Lord cannot bless bad decisions.

  5. 25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

Make sure what you do is in parallel with the Bible. When we do things that are right in our own sight.we are sinful flesh. We need God.

  6. 25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

There Bible says in proverbs that there is a way that seems right to man but that way leads to death. I’ve seen multiple times in this book where it says without a king is real did what was right in their own eyes and it is no wonder that God would continually get fed up with Israel because they kept doing the same things up to the point rhat it was just insane.

  7. 25 In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.
We cannot allow ourselves to do “what is right in our own eyes” we must follow the teachings of our leaders because if not we will go the wrong direction and make mistakes we may not be able to recover from.

  8. Men needs God and The Holy Ghost to guide them and keep them in the truth!!!!

25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

It is hard to read how lost can God’s children get without guidance. Benjamin tribe the most loved child after Joseph and still they backslide to the point that all the other tribes will not fellowship with them nor let them have their daughters. Their solution still just as crazy. At the end he tells us why they are acting like they are for they have no one to rule or guide the people, they did as they saw fit.

  9. 1 Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.

Rules were made to keep women safe and away from Benjamin. There are matters that need immediate attention and resolve from a higher ruler. Since no king nor laws were implemented. Then there was self made decisions to better protect women in their tribes. How dangerous that self rules and laws can hinder your life straight to darkness and to be a lost soul.

  10. “And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the Lord? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly”. The word of God (Jesus) was very clear on what transpired next. There are still areas, and people today that show such devotion, unfortunately it is often for a false god. One would be wise to recognize what is truly happening and take a stand for what one believes, while one still can. Dear God, open our eyes to the season in which we live. May God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  11. “And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore”. They had been united in everything, even unto crying out for what had been done. The Lord is also looking today for people that are willing to cry out for another, as they would themselves. God help us to see as you see and hear as you hear, in Jesus name.

  12. Judges 21:25, “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”

We live in the “danger zone” when we do our own thing and don’t obey and submit ourselves to the Authority and Leadership God has placed in our life, our Pastor.

Heb. 13:17 says, “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves; for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for this is unprofitable for you.”

  13. Doing God’s will….

God is a supreme being and Jesus (God) is very powerful He knows everything that’s in our heart our desires and wants and even hurts.
I’m going to an all African American assembly(church), and there’s mostly men that are there that serve the church as elders and deacons. I love this assembly. I am seperated from my husband for 3years due to illnesses. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever be married again in a godly way. But in this last scripture it sounds like the people had an inheritance comming to them…vs24&25.
To me an inheritance can come in many ways.
Well I can say is God is good and he’s probably waiting for me to ask Him for it. Or better yet ask Him if I’m ready for it.

Well thankyou Jesus for letting me write this blog and the reading of Your Word, which is a privilege.

  14. iLove to Grow in the Word
23So the men of Benjamin did as they were told. Each man caught one of the women as she danced in the celebration and carried her off to be his wife. They returned to their own land, and they rebuilt their towns and lived in them.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Wow, the stories in the Bible are pretty hard to understand for the spoiled 21st Century generation… Thanks be to God for the blood of Jesus and civilization of the Christian lifestyle :).

  15. 25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

When there is no leadership, when there is noone to lead, it leads to people doing whatever they want which is the way of a sinful lifestyle. Because the bible is our instructions for life but we need leaders to help us follow these instructions through life.

  16. 4 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

This verse stuck out to me today If we would arise early building a altar of prayer we would our faith elevated

  17. 25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
We should always be accountable. The rules aren’t there without purpose but it is there to help lead us and guide us to the right path. This scripture also made me think, was there absolutely no one that can be king or a leader at the time? I thought that was sad because there is a generation that is coming up and the time is now to teach them how to pray, fast, read the word of God, we should always teach the next generation how to be a leader and to be a real woman or man of God.

  18. The tangled webs have been weaved against the actions and vows have created. They go beyond Gods design of punishment for the Benjaminites and almost annihilate the entire tribe, leaving only 600 men alive (vs 47). They had also taken the oath not to give any of their daughters to their Benjaminite men in marriage (Judg 21:1) adding to their punishment of the Benjaminites (Judg 21:5). Now they grieve the results. The tribe Benjamin may cease to exist. Their actions to remedy the situation illustrate what we already know: another wrong doesn’t correct a previous wrong. It only compounds the problem. The root of Israel’s problem is simply and sadly summed up again in the last verse of the book: ” Everyone did as he saw fit.” The standards and commands of God are ignored and the bedlam of these last chapters is the result.

  19. 3 And said, O Lord God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel?

God does not desire for us to lack but He desires for us to walk in aboundance.

  20. “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”(‭Judges‬ ‭21:25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Still Benjamin must be preserved as a tribe. The elders therefore said, “Possession of the saved shall be for Benjamin,” i.e., the tribe-land of Benjamin shall remain an independent possession for the Benjaminites who have escaped the massacre, so that a tribe may not be destroyed out of Israel. It was necessary therefore, that they should take steps to help the remaining Benjaminites to wives.

  21. An whole tribe is almost annihilated. To preserve the bloodline, a people was killed and their virgin daughters were given to the men. Then, other women were kidnapped to become wives. The chapter ends with the comment about no king in Israel. It would appear that the writers did not agree with what happened. Furthermore, it may reiterate the idea that this was recorded during the monarchy and that the monarchy was favorable.

  22. How sad it is to recognize that you / your family has been cut off from the presence of God. Insuring that you spend time in the Word and in prayer each day will keep you sensitive to His Spirit and allow conviction to be present in your life directing your steps.

  23. So thankful that some day righteousness will fill the new heavens and earth.
We should be motivated to serve GOD with all hearts ,soul, and strength.

  24. 25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

If every one is doing that which is right in their eyes there is no clear direction. People is this situation are destined to doom. Tragedy is always present where there are no rules or order.

  25. 2 And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore;

  26. 10 And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.

Will you be one of the brave ones siding the gospel of Jesus Christ? Will you be brave or scared when the devil comes and attacks you or your family…. I know who I worship and the devil cannot mess with my family. The way I pray for my family I need to be praying for all those souls that are in trouble. Help me Jesus be sensitive to your Word!!! Hallelujah Jesus!!!!!

  27. 25 In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes. (NLT)

Still no king, still doing what “seemed” right, still not following God. This only shows even more that we need authority, boundaries, and direction in our lives.

  28. 25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

Sadly, again scripture repeats this verse saying there was no leadership for the people to follow-they all did their own thing. Jesus says we are the sheep of his pasture…and sheep naturally keep their heads down as they graze and are susceptible to the attacks of predators. We (as sheep) need a shepherd to keep a watch over us. We need his covering and authority in our lives.

  29. 25. In those days there was no king in Is’-ra-el, every man did that which was right in his own eyes. Sin City !!

  30. No accountability

“In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭21:25‬ ‭KJV

When there is no accountability then people do what they want. They are free to take what they want. Go where they want and make what ever decisions they would like. It is a time of chaos when no one is accountable because people feel there is no need to follow conventional rules because there is no consequence for wrong actions.
