1 Samuel 10

1 Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the Lord hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

2 When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?

3 Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:

4 And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.

5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:

6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.

9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.

11 And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

12 And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?

13 And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.

14 And Saul’s uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel.

15 And Saul’s uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.

16 And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.

17 And Samuel called the people together unto the Lord to Mizpeh;

18 And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:

19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands.

20 And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.

21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.

22 Therefore they enquired of the Lord further, if the man should yet come thither. And the Lord answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.

23 And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

24 And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the Lord hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.

25 Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the Lord. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

26 And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.

27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.

  1. 5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:

6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

  2. In this chapter, we see how important it is to answer the call with obedience and the Lord will make the changes necessary to bring everything to pass according to His will.

  3. 22. Therefore they enquired of the Lord further, if the man should yet come thither. And the Lord answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff.

Whether you are feeling lost and alone as though no one cares, or you are feeling overwhelmed by too much attention, God always knows exactly where you are, loves you, and is willing to help you if you will allow Him.

The act.of.pouring oil is mentioned 69 times in the O.T. In most cases it has ritual significance setting something or some one as priest kings and even prophets apart from the service of God.

  5. 9 As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul’s heart, and all these signswere fulfilled that day.

God is able to do anything…. NOTHING is to hard for him. Lift your head up and have your trust on the Lord. You may feel like your sinking in a cup of water with your own problems but just lift your head up and see the great promises God has in store for you. He doesn’t let us go through things so we can fail but to make us stronger. We are victorious and the devil will not dwell in me or my house. Growing Gods kingdom !!!! Obey His commands and Submit and see all the great things that God will do in your lives. Don’t let go of your dreams!!!! Dream Big because we serve a Big God!!! Hallelujah!!!! Souls, souls, souls

  6. 18 And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:

19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands.

  7. 27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.

Is this disrespect? Is this unbelief? I believe the children of Belial were some of the last that believed God was all they needed. They did not need a “man” king to rule over them. They showed their disapproval by not bringing presents. We all have the right to disagree with the leadership of this country. We have the right to not participate in any celebrations honoring a leader we do not support.

This is a privilege of living in The United States.

God’s kingdom and His leadership demand a different set of rules. If we have asked Pastor Watts to be our shepherd and given him authority to speak into our lives – our respect is warranted. If a situation presents itself where our view or desires differ from our leader we have the right to inquire and understand the situation better. Running our mouth against our leader is never the solution and will endanger your soul speaking against your Pastor.

  8. 9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

  9. 1 Samuel 10:6-7 (MSG)
    6) Before you know it, the Spirit of the God will come on you and you’ll be prophesying right along with them. And you’ll be transformed. You’ll be a new person!
    7) And when these confirming signs are accomplished, you’ll know that you’re ready: Whatever job you’re given to do, do it. God is with you!

These scriptures made me think of …
2 Cor. 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things become new.”
Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

When we Repent, are Baptized in Jesus name, and are filled the Holy Ghost, we become a new person in Christ Jesus. Then we will be ready to do the job He has given us to do, be a witness, a pastor, a minister, a home Bible study teacher, an interpreter, a praise singer, a musician, a Sunday school teacher, a bus driver, a van driver, a cleaner, etc… But whatever the job is, remember God is with you!

  11. God will help us, provide for us, chastise us if needed, be our go to in times of trouble, be our mother or father, clothe us, feed us and whatever else we have need of. What more could we want.

  12. 9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

Sometimes the things we are called to do requires us to have a “change of heart” because it is not what we want to do, or out of character for us, or doesn’t follow the plans we had in our mind.

My prayer daily is Lord change my heart. Help me become everything you want me to be and walk in your ways and in your likeliness.

  13. 27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.

    Haters gonna hate.

God chose Saul and elevated him before men. Yet there were still those that despised him for it. They questioned him yet he held his peace. These people were children of belial. To this day God still chooses men and women for his kingdom, in some cases he elevates them before others, and still today there are people who may look and act like children of God that hate their brethren for it. God does not father hate and discord. We need to evaluate our spirit and if we find seeds of the enemy placed there then we need to repent, dig them up, and return to the sonship of Jesus Christ.

  14. iLove to Grow in the Word

1 Samuel 10:6 NLT At that time the Spirit of the LORD will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them. You will be changed into a different person.

1 Samuel 10:9 NLT As Saul turned and started to leave, God gave him a new heart, and all Samuel’s signs were fulfilled that day.

1 Samuel 10:26 NLT When Saul returned to his home at Gibeah, a group of men whose hearts God had touched went with him.

This is amazing in the fact that people’s hearts were changed by the Lord. I’m believing that God is changing hearts at The Pentecostals of Fort Worth. Changing hearts to join the man of God’s vision to Impact Fort Worth. To really reach the vision that God has given the Pastor, he shouldn’t be worried about trash in the parking lot, grass in the flower bed, or replacing washed away mulch. God is speaking but who is listening? God is anointing leaders and raising up those whose hearts have changed and are listening to his voice.

Proverbs 14:23 In all labor there is profit, but idle talk leads only to poverty.

  15. 6 At that time the Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them. You will be changed into a different person.

9 As Saul turned and started to leave, God gave him a new heart, and all Samuel’s signs were fulfilled that day. (NLT)

Change us Lord! Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10, KJV)

  16. 6 The Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person.

What a awesome God we serve! When his power comes in us it changes us to live in Jesus Christ! God will be with us in anything we do through him! The power of God is amazing!

  17. 19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands.

Thankfully, God has a plan for our wrong choices!
When we reject him, he still seeks to save that which is lost. He does not give up on us because we go through trials, instead, he becomes strong for us when we are weak. Lean on him and not on your own understanding.

  18. 7 A nd let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

God showed great signs to Saul all in the space of 1 chapter just to prove to him that he was called of God. It reminds me of the saying that the ones that God calls he also equipped. Saul went from being little known in the least of all the tribes to being a prophet to being called King and the even having a band of men following him. That is the effect that God has on the lives of those that he calls.

  19. 6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.
7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with the

  20. 25 Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the Lord. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
26 And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.
27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.

A heart that even God cannot touch.

Wow. What a scary place to be when God can’t even touch your heart. This is why we must be careful to have a heart of flesh one that can be modeled. God is so merciful to us.

  21. 21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.

22 Therefore they enquired of the Lord further, if the man should yet come thither. And the Lord answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.

Lord fix my heart and change me into the person you have called me to be, let your will be done in my life that I would not depart from you!

  23. 1 Samuel 10:19 (Modern English Version)
19 But you have today rejected your God, who saves you from all your troubles and your distresses. And you have said to Him, ‘No, but set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your clans.”

The people got what they wanted but ignored the somber tone of Samuel. They now had a king but in the midst of celebration failed to acknowledge their grim circumstances.

They had rejected God. He felt rejected and they could have cared less.

What a tragic position when a person’s personal gratification outweighs their desire to please the Lord. We are in a place of utmost misery, and deception when we think that us getting what we want will make things better, rather than turning to God.

Israel should have stopped the ceremony, fell to their knees and cried out to God in repentance.

Be careful what you ask for. You just might get it.

  24. 7 NLT. aftet these signs take place do what must be done for god is with you

Verses 7 spoke out to me
As i close the chapter of high school life i open a new chapter To life but i realize there to life then u pass but i have to keep going but i know this for sure what ever i do in the kingdom of god. I know he will be with me Every step Of. The way

  25. 15“Oh? And what did he say?” his uncle asked. 16“He told us that the donkeys had already been found,” Saul replied. But Saul didn’t tell his uncle what Samuel said about the kingdom.

It seems Saul had some wisdom and did not going telling everyone he was to be king. He waited until the proper time when Samuel said. If Saul would have started talking about him being king, no one would have believed him. All knew that Samuel was a prophet of God, and they accepted his word.

It’s wise to speak at appropriate time, and stay quiet at appropriate times. Let God guide you with words and go on his time.

  26. 18 And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:

19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands.

  27. 9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

It was during an act of obedience that God gave all another heart and soon turned him into a new man. Because he trusted and followed the words of the man of God

  28. 6 At that time the Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them. You will be changed into a different person.
7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.
God help me to love you with all my heart and soul! I want to be all what I can be for the kingdom of God and in the perfect will of God.

  29. 27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.

In your walk with God, you will always face opposition. It is through prayer, fasting, and reading God’s word daily where you will be able to remain persistent and fulfill the purpose God has for you. Regardless of what anyone thinks about you.

  30. God is with thee

7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

In such uncertain times we have this hope; “God is with thee.” When we allow ourselves to truly trust Him fear will flee because it doesn’t matter what happens around us our lives are lived in the spirit and He reigns on the just and unjust. He gives and takes away but blessed be His name!

  31. 27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.

They asked for a King, but maybe they wanted one appointed by man and not God! There is always gonna be unsatisfied people who rebell, these people cannot be pleased, no matter what anyone tries to do they always have a complaint or comment, they threw a temper tantrum, humph…ill show them I wont bring any presents, you dont mess with God, and you dont come against the Man of God!

  32. 18 And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you: 19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands.

The word of God (Jesus) said “ye have this day rejected your God”. The word of God (Creator) was clear on what and how things would take place then, just as it is also clear on what shall take place today. When a leader, king, people or Nation turn their back on God (Judge), they can only blame self; when he is not around too answer their cries. Dear God, wake us up that we would be wise enough to heed you and your word, and only choose, elect, appoint leaders that do likewise. May God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  33. “And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.” The Lord changed Saul in just a few moments. The word of the Lord is clear that he is no respecter of persons, therefore we should never doubt how quickly a situation can change; once we turn. God help us to see the significance of turning, in Jesus name.

  34. 6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

  35. 17 And Samuel called the people together unto the Lord to Mizpeh;

This is where I get a little confused about the children of Israel. GOD delivered them time and time again from oppressors; but yet they chose to turn from HIM. They rejected GOD and chose man over the Almighty Creator. You can’t serve man and GOD. HE has put a mighty man of GOD before us; to instruct us, to lead us and teach us. The children of today are choosing man over GOD. We as Christians myself included have to stand up and train our children to follow after the word and to live a life that is acceptable to GOD. GOD knows the hearts of man and HE will instruct us that want to have that relationship with HIM. Live strong in GOD’s faith and follow HIS teachings.

2Th 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.

    Thank you Jesus…….Amen!!!

  36. But there were some scoundrels who complained, “How can this man save us?” And they scorned him and refused to bring him gifts. But Saul ignored them. [Nahash, king of the Ammonites, had been grievously oppressing the people of Gad and Reuben who lived east of the Jordan River. He gouged out the right eye of each of the Israelites living there, and he didn’t allow anyone to come and rescue them. In fact, of all the Israelites east of the Jordan, there wasn’t a single one whose right eye Nahash had not gouged out. But there were 7,000 men who had escaped from the Ammonites, and they had settled in Jabesh-gilead.]

Saul IGNORED their ugliness!!! That’s how we guard our heart!!! When someone is being ugly or UGLAYYY, I push that ignore button (immediately look at the situation in the spiritual and you will see that we war not against flesh and blood)!!!
    Thank you JESUS!!!

  37. 6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

It is by God’s Spirit that we are changed and made new.

  38. 8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.

At the very beginning, Saul’s obedience to wait for Samuel to perform the sacrifice was a part of establishing his opportunity to become king of Israel. Yet towards his end, it was his disobedience in this very same area that revealed how far his heart was removed from God:

    1 Samuel 13:8-14
8 And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.

9 And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.

10 And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.

    11 And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;

12 Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the Lord: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.

13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee.

  39. The children of Israel demanded a king for themselves like the surrounding nations had. They had great strong tall towering built men for kings to show off their might and strength as a nation by their ruler. God was to be their ruler and center of their lives and they rejected the cornerstone and the very one who lead them out of the bondage of Egypt. Saul is anointed King for his stature and filled with the Lords Spirit to even prophesy bit this man will lead Israel even further in the wrong direction. Going any other way than the Lords direction will end badly.

  40. “And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. (‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭10:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

The spirit of lord will come upon thee, this is a remarkable expression, and occurs nowhere else. It describes the change in point of mental power and energy which would result from the influx of the Spirit of the Lord 1 Samuel 10:9.

  41. God will give you what you want. This may sound appealing but it is not always what you need. The people wanted a king even though he was the ultimate ruler. Be careful what you ask for, you may be getting less than you could have gotten…

  42. 24 And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the Lord hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.

God’s plan is exactly what is about to happen a new king .

  43. v2 ” The asses which thou wentest to seek are found:

When we can’t GOD CAN, but we should never expect GOD to do what we can do. Thank you LORD for your leading and guidance for our lives.

  44. 1. Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on Saul’s head and kissed him, saying, ” Has not the Lord anointed you leader over his inheritance? 2. When you leave me today, you will meet two men near Rachel’s tomb, at zelzah on the border of Benjamin. They will say to you, ‘ The donkey’s you set out to look for have been found. And now your father has stopped thinking about them and is worried about you. He is asking, ” What shall I do about my son? ” Saul anointed by Jesus !!
