1 Samuel 12

1 And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.

2 And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day.

3 Behold, here I am: witness against me before the Lord, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

4 And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man’s hand.

5 And he said unto them, The Lord is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.

6 And Samuel said unto the people, It is the Lord that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

7 Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the Lord of all the righteous acts of the Lord, which he did to you and to your fathers.

8 When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto the Lord, then the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.

9 And when they forgat the Lord their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

10 And they cried unto the Lord, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the Lord, and have served Baalim and Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.

11 And the Lord sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled safe.

12 And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the Lord your God was your king.

13 Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the Lord hath set a king over you.

14 If ye will fear the Lord, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the Lord your God:

15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall the hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against your fathers.

16 Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the Lord will do before your eyes.

17 Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the Lord, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the Lord, in asking you a king.

18 So Samuel called unto the Lord; and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel.

19 And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the Lord thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.

20 And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart;

21 And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

22 For the Lord will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you his people.

23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

  1. v22 For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.

Now that’s eternal companionship. It’s GOD’S desire that every willing individual come to HIM. Even though we have never seen the LORD , we have heard of HIS GREATNESS , and we still believe that HE waits for us and will welcome us to HIS home some sweet day.

  2. Turn aside every weight…
I thankyou Lord. You are still on your throne.
I pray and thankyou for this scripture. It makes me realize that God still gives us chances over chance to clean up our life. This passage is for me today.

    P.S.
    GOD GETS TIRED TOO.

  3. 3 Behold, here I am: witness against me before the Lord, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

  4. Verses 20-22 MSG “Samuel said to them, “Don’t be fearful. It’s true that you have done something very wrong. All the same, don’t turn your back on God. Worship and serve him heart and soul! Don’t chase after ghost-gods. There’s nothing to them. They can’t help you. They’re nothing but ghost-gods! God, simply because of who he is, is not going to walk off and leave his people. God took delight in making you into his very own people.” We must worship the Lord and serve Him faithfully and not turn our back on Him; but remember as verse 24 AMP says “Only fear the Lord [with awe and profound reverence] and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you”. As the song says “You don’t know like I know, what the Lord has done for me”.

  5. 23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

We must tell others about Jesus and his commandments.

  6. 24. Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

When we stop dwelling on what hasn’t gone the way we wanted it to, and keep our minds on what He has done for us, we find it is much easier to serve Him with all our heart.

When I think of the goodness of Jesus
And all He has done for me
    My soul cries out, Hallelujah
    Thank God for saving me

  7. 24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

  8. 23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: 24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you. 25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

We may not have the title of king of prophet but we as parents are given an example to follow. Parents we cannot cease in praying for children. It is our duty to teach them the right way. We must teach our children to fear the Lord and serve in truth and with all their heart. Remind our children how good Gad has been to them. They must also learn and know that if they sin they will be lost.

For parents of grown children, we are not excused from this directive either. We must continue to pray, lead and warn our children. If our grown children are not the perfect saints of God; this does not give us the right to stop praying, leading and warning them of their wicked ways and the consequences of their actions.

  9. The LORD will not abandon his people, because that would dishonor his great name. For it has pleased the LORD to make you his very own people. “As for me, I will certainly not sin against the LORD by ending my prayers for you. And I will continue to teach you what is good and right. But be sure to fear the LORD and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you. (‭1 Samuel‬ ‭12‬:‭22-24‬ NLT)

I’m so thankful in serving a merciful and loving God!

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. (‭Psalms‬ ‭23‬:‭6‬ KJV)

  10. iLove to Grow in the Word

Is it sin not to pray for folks?

1 Samuel 12:23 NLT“As for me, I will certainly not sin against the lord by ending my prayers for you. And I will continue to teach you what is good and right. 24But be sure to fear the lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you.

Wow, I haven’t paid much attention to this scripture in the past, but it just hit me pretty good. To pray for folks is the will of God and to cease praying for them…in Samuel’s words would be considered sin. Discipleship 101

  11. “If ye will fear the Lord, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the Lord your God: But if ye will not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall the hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against your fathers.”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭12:14-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We have a choice to make. It doesn’t matter if our fathers or our mothers were heathens we have to choose to serve the lord and follow him. It doesn’t matter if our parents were missionaries and preachers. And if we choose not to serve him then our own punishment will be given to us.

Choose this day who you will serve!

  12. HOPE FOR THE SINNER

    20 And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart;

GOD used the Prophet Samuel to remind Israel of the miraculous events of their past generations. A trip down memory lane is very encouraging, humbling and convicting. The Mercy of GOD gave Israel HOPE even after they demanded their way in having a King to rule over them, rather than following the GOD that delivered them numerous times as Samuel reminded them.

HOPE FOR THE SINNER is contained in our willingness to REPENT and FOLLOW JESUS. JESUS came to seek and SAVE the lost not condemn and destroy the lost. JESUS through HIS grace and mercy grant us opportunity to answer his call to REPENTANCE and HOLINESS.

Verse 24 gives us very clear instructions for how to follow JESUS and partake in the HOPE FOR THE SINNER

24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

    Fear JESUS
    Serve JESUS
    Remember JESUS

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  13. 23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

  14. 14 If ye will fear the Lord, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the Lord your God:15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall the hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against your fathers.16 Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the Lord will do before your eyes.

Glory!!! Self explanatory…..I want to see the great things that the Lord shall do. The great things He’s going to do with this city, region, state, and world. I want to see all the many should that are going to be coming to POFW and realizing that Jesus is a they need. I will obey your command and follow you for the rest of my life Jesus!!! I trust in you!!!

  15. 14 “Now if you fear and worship the Lord and listen to his voice, and if you do not rebel against the Lord’s commands, then both you and your king will show that you recognize the Lord as your God.
15 But if you rebel against the Lord’s commands and refuse to listen to him, then his hand will be as heavy upon you as it was upon your ancestors. (NLT)

Times change with each generation that rises. There comes a time when a generation must decide for themselves whom they will serve. We are wise to heed the words and examples of our elders; whether it’s learning from their mistakes or following in their footsteps.

  16. Reading the blog this morning here is some.of the Word.that has encouraged me this morning.
    Vs20
But make sure that know you worship the Lord with enthusiasm and that you don’t turn your back on him in any way.
    Vs24
Trust the Lord and sincerely worship him think of all the great things he has done for you .
God’s.commands.must be given priority in any situation
This is a good one .
Stressful and uncertain times test our trust in God not our strength of. Garter . That is the times we are living I right know
Now I am talking to any odd reading my blog . I think it is a good ideal to let pastor and Sis Watts know how proud of them for what they are accoplasine they had been very successful I they need for us as a body to let them know praise God we are so blessed as a body for our leaders pastor and Sis Watts. Also we to need to let brother Morgan know how much we love and appreciate him . I don’t think most of the body realize all that he does to help the church and us as a body so when you see bro Morgan the thank him . Praise God

  17. 1 Samuel 12 :19 The people all said to Samuel pray to the Lord your God for your servants so that we will not die for we have added to all our sins the evil of asking for a king. Do not be afraid Samuel replied you have done this evil yet do not turn away from the Lord but serve the Lord with all your heart. Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good nor can they rescue you because there are useless. For the sake of his great name the Lord will not reject his people because the Lord was pleased to make you his own. AS for me far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. Be sure to fear the lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart consider what great things he has done for you. Yet if you persist in doing evil both you and your king will perish.

  18. 2.4 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

God only requires his people to serve him and obey him. If the people are willing to fear Him He will bless them but if they turn from him he will curse them. Unfortunately we all know the story of Saul and how he eventually stopped serving the lord and cursed his house and Israel. God’s expectations are so simple to serve him with all of our heart all of our soul on all of our mind. If we Do the simple things God’s blessing will be upon us.

  19. 20 And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart;

So thankful that we serve a God who doesn’t destroy us when we make a mistake. God chose us as children of his name, let us not destroy each other for mistakes. Like Samuel lets purpose in our hearts to pray for each other even when we fall so that we ourselves will not sin against the lord. If we all continue in serving the Lord despite the mistakes we make he will be faithful and just to us.

  20. 24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

Fear God. He is righteous. He is my God.

  21. 1 Samuel 12:20-22
20)And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart.
    21) And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.
    22) For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great names’ sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.

This is the trick of the enemy. The devil wants us to believe that because we have sinned and made mistakes, God doesn’t love or care about us anymore, and He has forsaken us. So we would be better off turning from following the LORD. No hope.

BUT that is the farthest thing from the truth. Yes we sin and make mistakes, but Thank God for His Great Name and Mercy!! There Is Hope in our Deliverer!

1 John 2:1 says, “MY little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”

  22. How many is too many opportunities

24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

God looks back as Israel have let him down over and over and over again but God in His great Mercy keeps giving them another chance. Jesus is our Savior He gives it all for us!!!

  23. 24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

What a great and mighty God we serve. He has done great things for us and does not leave our side. He is our present help in time of trouble, He is our strength when we are weak. He provides and cares for us and loves us.

  24. 1 Samuel 12:20-21 (KJV Strong’s)
    20 And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart;
21 And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

When we turn aside from following the Lord, even if it is subtle, we can direct ourselves to focus on the wrong things. Vain, useless, and profit less things. We can become accustomed to activities, and busyness that equates to nothing in the long run.

We will miss out on reaching the lost. We will miss opportunity to fellowship with the Lord. We will neglect the supernatural things of God. When our focus is on the vain we forget our true purpose.

    Galatians 5:7-9 (KJV Strong’s)
7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?
8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

Our tiny, and seemingly insignificant decisions can cause big problems later. Just a little yeast will make the bread rise.

The word says for us to serve with ALL our heart. There is no room for half-heartedness.

  25. 13 Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the Lord hath set a king over you.

  26. 23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

  27. 7 Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the Lord, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the Lord, in asking you a king.

18 So Samuel called unto the Lord; and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel.

19 And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the Lord thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.

    20 And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart;

21 And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

The Lord sent a sign as spoke through Samuel that the people would recognize the condition of their heart and turn from following after vain things.

Daily the Lord is speaking to us through His Word, His Spirit and our Pastor to follow the Lord with all our heart to keep us from doing vain things that our life proves who we are following, as an example to others.

  28. 14 If ye will fear the Lord, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the Lord your God:

15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall the hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against your fathers.

No one can force us to live for God, we cannot rely on others to help us reach heaven. It is our own choice to live for God or live for ourselves. Heaven or hell which life will you choose?

  29. 17 You know that it does not rain at this time of the year during the wheat harvest. I will ask the LORD to send thunder and rain today. Then you will realize how wicked you have been in asking the LORD for a king!”

What a mighty sign from God, thunder and lightning during at time when rain is not expected. What more grand sign could you ask for to believe in God.

  30. 23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

He was still going to pray for them, but he also encouraged them to serve God with all their heart, thats was part of what we learned in impact class, God dont like half we cant serve God half way, He tells us either we will love one and hate the other, I WILL SERVE HIM WITH MY WHOLE HEART! CHOOSE THIS DAY, WHOM YOU WILL SERVE, AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE WE WILL SERVE THE LORD!

  31. How Many Times is to Many?

22 For the Lord will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you his people.

23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

God has said that He will never leave nor forsake His children. God also stated that we are to pray for others without ceasing. To teach those how to pray for others. I believe in fearing the Lord, God loves us and will correct everything that we do wrong. Raise up the children to live for God and never turn from Him. I need God in my life and in my marriage. Who knows what would have happened to my wife and myself should we have continued down the road we were going. Thank you Jesus for using Dakota as that vessel to bring us back to you.

Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Mat 18:22

  32. 14 If ye will fear the Lord, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the Lord your God:

15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall the hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against your fathers.
I’m going to fear the Lord keep his commandments, so I can be bless, and my family can be blessed. I want to continue to obey God’s voice so he will keep his hand and favor upon us.

  33. 1 Samuel 12:23 As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right.

What if a simple intercessory prayer brings them back to God?

Or seeing someone’s spiritual condition we decide to stay quiet and stay to ourselves and not allow God to use us to minister?

What if God held that against you?

We can be held accountable for the people that puts in our path, He wants no one to go to hell but we pick and choose who we tell!

    Let God be Goddmm,

  34. 15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall the hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against your fathers.

25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

The word of God (Jesus) is clear. One is in denial if one cannot see where our Nation is today, or simply don’t care; however if one will truly seek Jesus (the only God), than our children may have a better tomorrow. Dear God, forgive us, and bless us with leaders that reverence and follow you and your word. May God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  35. “For the Lord will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you his people.” The Lord has and shall always do everything he has said. Therefore anything or anyone that contradicts the Lord or his word, is going away from the Lord. God let us not be deceived but let us clearly see, hear, and follow you, in Jesus name.

  36. 14 If ye will fear the Lord, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the Lord your God:

15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then shall the hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against your fathers.

Romans 6:12-13 Let not therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but yielf yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

  37. ““As for me, I will certainly not sin against the LORD by ending my prayers for you. And I will continue to teach you what is good and right. But be sure to fear the LORD and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you. But if you continue to sin, you and your king will be swept away.””
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭12:23-25‬ ‭NLT‬‬

How not to sin against the Lord:
    Pray for others
    Teach others
    Fear the Lord
    Faithfully serve Him
Think on the wonders He has done

  38. 12. Samuel said to all Israel, ” I have listened to everything you said to me and have set a king over you. 2. Now you have a king as your leader. As for me, I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have been your leader from my youth until this day. 3. Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the Lord and his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe to make me shut my eyes? If I have done any of these, I will make it right.” Praise God !!!!

  39. “”Don’t be afraid,” Samuel replied. “It’s true that you have done all of those evil things. But don’t turn away from the Lord. Serve him with all your heart.”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭12:20‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

No matter how many times we mess up we should always turn back to him.

“Who can separate us from Christ’s love? Can trouble or hard times or harm or hunger? Can nakedness or danger or war?

I am absolutely sure that not even death or life can separate us from God’s love. Not even angels or demons, the present or the future, or any powers can do that. Not even the highest places or the lowest, or anything else in all creation can do that. Nothing at all can ever separate us from God’s love because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:35, 38-39‬ ‭NIRV‬‬
