2 Samuel 6

1 Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.

2 And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the Lord of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.

3 And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart.

4 And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.

5 And David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.

6 And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.

7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

8 And David was displeased, because the Lord had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.

9 And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and said, How shall the ark of the Lord come to me?

10 So David would not remove the ark of the Lord unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.

11 And the ark of the Lord continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the Lord blessed Obededom, and all his household.

12 And it was told king David, saying, The Lord hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.

13 And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.

14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

16 And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

17 And they brought in the ark of the Lord, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

18 And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts.

19 And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.

20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!

21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.

22 And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.

23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

  1. 13 And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.

14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

It amazing even people in bible would dance for lord in church durning praise songs a lot of will dance for lord not because were not force to do it it because we want to do it please the lord so, “I want to dance like david dance”.

  2. 20When David returned home to bless his own family, Michal, the daughter of Saul, came out to meet him. She said in disgust, “How distinguished the king of Israel looked today, shamelessly exposing himself to the servant girls like any vulgar person might do!”

21David retorted to Michal, “I was dancing before the LORD, who chose me above your father and all his family! He appointed me as the leader of Israel, the people of the LORD, so I celebrate before the LORD. 22Yes, and I am willing to look even more foolish than this, even to be humiliated in my own eyes! But those servant girls you mentioned will indeed think I am distinguished!” 23So Michal, the daughter of Saul, remained childless throughout her entire life.NLT

WOW! Michal’s inability to see the love David had for God and his want to express that to Him cursed her. She refused to praise the LORD. She refused to be taken away with gratitude for the Mercy Seat being brought into the City of David. She folded her arms and curled her lips at God’s people. She was disgusted. This makes my heart heavy for those that come into the LORD’s house, but refuse to praise. They refuse to allow the presence of the LORD to move them and in turn they miss out on amazing blessings, break throughs, revelations, deliverances. Jesus, I pray you move feircely, but gently on those whose hearts are hardened against You. Tear down the walls they have build and draw them lovingly into an intimate relationship with you. In Jesus name. Amen.

  3. 7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

There is a right way and a wrong way to do everything. Bringing the Ark back into the house of David was the plan, restoring the Ark to it’s rightful place was the purpose. However, doing it their way, bringing it on a “new cart”, caused the death of one of David’s servants and David became angry with God. Instead David should have taken responsibility for changing the way the Ark was meant to be carried and transported.

Too many people are trying to bring the glory and presence of the Lord into their midst, but they are trying all different tactics instead of prayer, fasting, submission, covering by authority to bring God’s glory.

There is no substitute for the real thing. Don’t manufacture an imitation, but be willing to sacrifice and pay the price to have the genuine, along with that comes the favor and blessing of the Lord that Obededom experienced the 3 months the Ark abode in his household.

  4. 20. Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!

    23. Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

Those who despise praise bear no fruit.

  5. MIS-UNDERSTANDING

We will not always understand how and why. FAITH and TRUST become so important in these times. David lost precious time and ground when he chose to place the ark on a new cart. GOD never intended for a cart to carry the ARK of GOD only the priesthood.

GOD rejected the opportunity for the ARK to become common. When Uzzah lost his life from touching the ARK in attempt to stabilize it, as he would any other item on the top of a wagon. GOD responded immediately. This loss shook David as it should.

Fear paralyzes! David was afraid and would not move the ARK. When GOD judges and we do not understand we become paralyzed by the judgement of GOD. We are wise to step back and evaluate the situation and reason for the judgement, repent, revive, refocus and recommit.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  6. Verse 21 AMP ” So David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord [that I did this], who chose me above your father and all his house, to appoint me as ruler over Israel, the people of the Lord. Therefore I will celebrate [in pure enjoyment] before the Lord.” David wanted the blessings of the Lord and he was not about to let Michal or anyone else rain on his parade of praise. Praise Him, Praise Him, Praise Him in the Morning, Praise Him the noon time, Praise Him all day long!

  7. 9David was now afraid of the LORD, and he asked, “How can I ever bring the Ark of the LORD back into my care?”

David was afraid, but he also lost faith and trust in the Lord. He knew the consequences of touching the ark. After 3 months he again trusted in the Lord, after Obed-Edom was blessed. We should never lose faith in God, but pray unto him to receive our answers.

  8. 6 And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.

7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

Uzzah handled a spiritual situation naturally and it ended up costing him his life.

  9. In the end, Michal criticizes David for his radical praise before the Lord, but he didn’t care and even retorted by saying he was willing to act even more a “fool.” It doesn’t matter what others think, their approval and judgement is not the one that matters in the end. God is worthy of so much more than we could ever offer because He’s just that great. But who’s to say we can’t try our very hardest to sacrificially praise God with all our might so we may please Him and bring Him glory.

  10. Nothing should stop our Praise

Just as David we should not be concern about what others would think because of the way we praise Him. Not Position, nor pride, not what others think of us should ever stop us from Praising our Lord with All our might.
Michal lost the ability to give life because of her tongue and her criticism to the way David Praise God. May the Lord restrain our tongue and may He bless our Praise with His Presence in Jesus Name Amen

  11. 2 Samuel 6:22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.”

There are two instances that this chapter speaks of were David danced and celebrated before God. He danced and praised so hard he had to take off his royal garments to let loose.

That’s our problem today, we are more concerned with self preservation than giving the Almighty God the honor and praise he is deserving of.

  12. iLove to Grow in the Word

22And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.

The humility of David and the pride of Michal clashed on this day of celebration. The ark of God was finally where it belonged and David was praising the Lord…Those who are filled with pride do not understand true worship. They will always be the ones who want to tone down worship and send the tongue talkers to a separate room. The ones who are full of pride will not bring forth spiritual babies.

  13. Praise him with dance and praise him in any circumstance. Nothing done for show touches the throne. Pray, fast, study the word and he will cover you.

  14. 20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!

  15. 2 Samuel 6:15, “So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.”

Make a Joyful Noise unto the LORD!

  16. 2 Samuel 6:20 (ESV Strong’s)
20 And David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How the king of Israel honored himself today, uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants’ female servants, as one of the vulgar fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”

It seems to me that Michal was upset because David worshipped another God. See when people see you giving God glory and praise they may speak ill of you, and make fun of you. Yet they themselves have galavanted with their gods and made merry in praise to them.

Hang around people long enough and they will speak of their god. It may be money, shoes, popularity, promiscuity: but they will speak of their gods.

  17. 16 And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

Apparently David cared about what really matters to him which is to please God. Michal Davids wife was selfishly thinking only about his appeareance and how a king should act. Mical was the foolish one, David knew that God gave him that position and he can take it away God gets the glory! None of us is irreplaceable! Let’s give God glory in every situation. Ladies let support our husbands and hold there arms up, not talk bad about them and despise them!

  18. Knowledge unto life

6 And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.

Why didn’t Uzzah know not to put his hand on the ark? I often wondered about this passage. How did he grow up in a house which was telling the testimonies of Moses and the children of Isreal and not know about the power of the ark? This is much like people that go to church, read their bible, and never understand the power of the Holy Ghost. It is knowledge into life. Without the knowledge and the power of the Holy Ghost I’m not sure I would be alive right now. On the other hand if you know the power and misuse it or underestimate it, it can be deadly. We that are in the knowledge of Jesus and the Holy Ghost have the ability to give life through telling people about him. What a tragedy it would be as in the case of Uzzah for them to be around us and not know.

  19. 10 So David would not remove the ark of the Lord unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.

The ark of the Lord represented his presence therefore great bleasing is in allowing God into our home. Now we are the temples where the Holy Ghost dwells. Our homes can be blessed all we have to do is be filled every day with the Spirit of God, allow him into our heart and lives.

  20. 13 And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.

14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

  21. While i was reading this chapter some came to me u don’t have to be ashamed to get out there and praise the yes u many look crazzy but its doesn’t matter for those who laugh and and talk about u they will get their reward in life like saul daughter did left childless her whole life so go out their and act crazzy. Because if u love the lord with all thou heart and all thou soul and all thou mind if really won’t matter what people think because u probably won’t be paying attention because u will to zone in with the lord

    • 20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!

  23. 16 And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

I don’t understand how anybody could despise a worshiper. It seems backwards to me. I’m also happy to see that David was a true worshipper it didn’t matter how high he was in the kingdom he was never to good to worship and praise the Lord!

  24. Be careful about you point fingers about someone else. How you judge someone else may be thrown back at you.

  25. Lord continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the Lord blessed Obededom, and all his household.

The blessings of God are in His presence. This scripture also shows the importance of making our homes a place filled with His presence.

  26. “And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.” The word of God (Jesus) illustrated quickness. One may think it strange or even wrong what happened; albeit God (Creator) carried out sentencing very swiftly. One may think it strange or wrong why one cannot do whatsoever one wants, and decide to do as one wants anyway. One will still however answer to God (Judge), on the day appointed. Dear God, forgive us (me) of anything that may be displeasing in your sight, in Jesus name. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

Davids wife was mad that he was dancing before the Lord with only a linen ephod, people dont wanna see us prise God in our comfort! David was so comfortable with God! He had a relationship that none of sauls family had with God! And he danced and praised and i beleive he sang on top of his lungs, he loved God, and no wife was gonna change that.

  28. “And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.” David did not care what others thought; however he cared greatly on what the Lord thought. We should be more concerned with pleasing the Lord, before we are in pleasing anyone else. God help us remember that our focus should be on you first, in Jesus name.

  29.  of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

David got mad at God for the death of Uzzah, but didn’t realize that he had moved the ark differently. There is a proper way to do things and an improper way to do things. Like David for the longest time; I thought that my way was right. Nobody was going to tell me any different. Then one day somebody showed me how to do things and all of a sudden a light clicked. I use to build models and of course I would use the instructions. Ding even God’s word comes with instructions; it’s called the reading the bible. How can I follow after God without His instruction.

    Thank you Jesus…..Amen!!!!

    • 7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

Sorry it cut part of the verse off.

  30. Be careful of whom you place judgement upon! Your judgement may be not only thrown back at you but also that person you judged can use it as a distraction and be distracted by what you said or done!

  31. 6 And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.

7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

Fear the Lord. Obey rules and be aware of your actions.

  32. 14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

  33. 12 And it was told king David, saying, The Lord hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God.

Somewhere before David went to the house of Obededom, he learned to change the way they transported the Ark. It says here that ‘they that bare the Ark of the Lord’, and 1 Chron 15:1-13 it says David learned that only the Levites were to carry the Ark upon their shoulders, so he planned accordingly. Now with great joy and confidence he brought the Ark back. When we know and understand Gods word and ways we can rejoice, but it takes study, hearing the the preached word mixed with faith along with prayer to receive this understanding. Refocus and seek his word & ways over our ways.

  34. 2 Samuel 6:21 David restored to Michael I was dancing before the Lord who chose me about your father and all his family! He appointed me as the leader of Israel the people of the Lord so I celebrate before the Lord yes and I am willing to look even more foolish than this even to be Community humiliated in my own eyes but those servant-girls you mentioned will indeed think I am distinguished so Michael the daughter of Saul remained childless throughout her entire life.

  35. Anthony:
Uzzah was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

    Joseph:
Uzzah died immediately because he touched the ark and he wasn’t supposed to.

    Olivia:
Hey, I remember Sister Gulley preaching about this in class.

    Michael:
Recited events before, during, and after this chapter that related to the ark.

–Thank you to all the wonderful teachers who have made these Bible scriptures come to life for my children and the other children who attend the church.

    Nicole:
“And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and said, How shall the ark of the Lord come to me? So David would not remove the ark of the Lord unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obed–edom the Gittite. And the ark of the Lord continued in the house of Obed–edom the Gittite three months: and the Lord blessed Obed–edom, and all his household.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭6:9-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sometimes the things of the Lord might scare the person who is to have them. David became scared of the power of the ark even though he was the person who should have the ark. David’s fear caused him to put it to the side for a while. Even when it was set aside it was a blessing. Once King David decided to continue moving the ark, he received the blessing that was put aside for a while.

We too have things that are blessings from God. Sometimes these things cause fear in our lives because of the uncertainty or effects they have while we have them. If we set hem aside for awhile we notice the blessing that is on others. It inspires us and we again are strengthened in courage to change our state of being so that we can be back in the will of God to get his blessing once more.

  36. “So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.”‭(2 Samuel‬ ‭6:15‬ ‭KJV)

David danced before the Lord—The Hebrews, like other ancient people, had their sacred dances, which were performed on their solemn anniversaries and other great occasions of commemorating some special token of the divine goodness and favor.

  37. Although it may seem harsh Uzzah dies because he disregards Gods holiness: “The Lords anger burned against Uzzah of his irreverent act.”(vs7). They first off weren’t carrying the ark of the covenant as intended with it being on a cart with a team of oxen to begin with wasn’t Gods instructions (1 Chr 15:15). Only the Kohathites a branch of the tribe of Levi are supposed to carry the ark, and even they may not touch it or they will die (Num 4:15). While all the men, including David are irreverent, God shows his mercy only by the one who directly directly violates Gods specific instructions even though Uzzah may have had good intentions. Good intentions may not always line up with the will of God. Obedience to Gods will keeps us out of the fate of Uzzah.

  38. “David returned home to bless his family. Saul’s daughter Michal came out to meet him. She said, “You are the king of Israel. You have really brought honor to yourself today, haven’t you? You have taken off your royal robe right in front of the female slaves of your officials. You acted like someone who is very foolish!” David said to Michal, “I did it to honor the Lord. He chose me instead of your father or anyone else in Saul’s family. He appointed me ruler over his people Israel. I will celebrate in honor of the Lord. And that’s not all. I will bring even less honor to myself. I will bring even more shame on myself. But those female slaves you spoke about will honor me.” Saul’s daughter Michal didn’t have any children as long as she lived.”
