2 Samuel 22

1 And David spake unto the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:

2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

4 I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

5 When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;

6 The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;

7 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

8 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.

9 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

10 He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.

11 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.

12 And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies.

13 Through the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled.

14 The Lord thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.

15 And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them.

16 And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the Lord, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

17 He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;

18 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.

19 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.

20 He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

21 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

22 For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

23 For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.

24 I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity.

25 Therefore the Lord hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight.

26 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright.

27 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury.

28 And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.

29 For thou art my lamp, O Lord: and the Lord will lighten my darkness.

30 For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.

31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

32 For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God?

33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

34 He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places.

35 He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.

36 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.

37 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.

38 I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.

39 And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet.

40 For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.

41 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.

42 They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the Lord, but he answered them not.

43 Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.

44 Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me.

45 Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.

46 Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.

47 The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.

48 It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me.

49 And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.

50 Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.

51 He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.

  1. Verses 21-25 MSG says:

    “God made my life complete
    when I placed all the pieces before him.
    When I cleaned up my act,
    he gave me a fresh start.
    Indeed, I’ve kept alert to God’s ways;
    I haven’t taken God for granted.
    Every day I review the ways he works,
    I try not to miss a trick.
    I feel put back together,
    and I’m watching my step.
    God rewrote the text of my life
    when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes.”

    A song of praise to my God….thank you Jesus. When it seems that things are falling apart; trust in the Lord for He is only allowing the pieces to fall into place for the plan that He has for your life.

  2. 50. Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.

    It’s easy to give thanks among believers, but we cannot neglect to lift Him up among those that don’t know Him. Otherwise, how will they learn of Him, and desire Him?

  3. 47 The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.

    Praised be YOUR NAME in ALL the EARTH!!! JESUS JESUS JESUS!!! ALWAYS AND FOREVER MORE JESUS!!!
    BLESSED BE THE ROCK!!!
    I trust in THEE MY LORD!!!
    HALELUJAH!!!

  4. God will protect and deliver his people, if we follow his commandments and believe in his word. God is always there for us if we will call upon his name, the name of Jesus.

  5. It is easy sometimes to think we are something special on this Earth. We may find ourselves in situations where we plan and scheme and work very hard to change the situation; only to find ourselves further in trouble than we ever thought. Then, we turn to God for salvation and rescue. God will deliver us and “sometimes” we then get the idea that we saved ourselves. Shame on me, shame on us.

    God deserves all the credit. David could have been like some many kings before him and after him and claimed look at all that I have done but that is not the case. David gives God all the credit. David understands God allowed him to be the tool with which God changed things. We can be used by God if we have the correct attitude and are willing.

  6. iLove to Grow in the Word
    2 Samuel 22:26-28 NLT “To the faithful you show Yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity. (27) To the pure you show Yourself pure, but to the wicked you show Yourself hostile. (28) You rescue the humble, but Your eyes watch the proud and humiliate them.

    The Lord will bless the humble, but the proud is rejected. This principle is continually found in the Word of God and we must always remember it if we desire the blessings of God.

  7. 50 Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.

    No matter where I am, I find myself singing or whistling a praise song… Yes even as I walk through Wal-Mart.

  8. THE GROW PATH

    This chapter reminds me of an old hymn that says “when I think of the goodness of JESUS and ALL he has dome for me, my soul cries HALLELUJAH, Praise GOD for saving me.

    The song that David sings in this chapter reveals 8 diverse ways that GOD delivers his people from distress, trouble and danger.

    1. JESUS is LIGHT
    2. JESUS is DETERMINATION
    3. JESUS is PROVEN
    4. JESUS is SOLID
    5. JESUS is STRONG
    6. JESUS is AGILITY
    7. JESUS is INSTRUCTION
    8. JESUS is PROTECTION

    Resistance builds strength, which causes us to GROW. THE GROW PATH is not always smooth and quite, it often has bumps and curves. We GROW as we learn to navigate through LIFES challenges.

    iRepent
    iPraise

  9. 16 And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the Lord, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

    17 He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;

    18 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.

    Hallelujah! Thank you Jesus for being my deliverer and savior!

  10. 2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

    3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

    4 I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

    5 When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;

    6 The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;

    7 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

    8 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.

    Lord thank you for your delivering power. The strength that only You can give is so overwhelming in the moments of deep despair. Only You Lord know our deepest thoughts, sorrows and disappointments. You come in mightyly poring into our lives when we have given all we can You are still
    pouring into us and say there is more to give because your promises never run out. I run into your presence my strength my love you are my everything. For You I live !

  11. 7 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.
    Thank God that we have a high priest that can be touched by the feelings of our infirmity! He knows how we are feeling and what we are dealing with and he cares for us.

  12. 20 He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

    This verse makes me happy 🙂 let’s not forget that we’re here for a reason.

  13. People alway say that when things go wrong praise Him and when things go right praise Him. So I get these weird days where everything is neither going right nor wrong. And what David did in this passage, I believe is what should happen on days like this. Not just praise but remembering; what God brought us from and through, what we put ourselves through, and what miracles God has done for us.

    Remember what we were not just who we were, and acknowledge that there are so many more of “us” out there who need the revelation of who exactly God is and how he can change their life.

  14. 32 For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God?
    33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.
    34 He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places.
    35 He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
    36 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.
    37 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.

    What a great praise to God! He reminds us that we do not do things on our own strength but it is God that gives us strength and power. It is the Lord that puts a perfect path before us for He is that path. It is God that transforms us and teaches us to war.

    It would be wise for us to remind ourselves of this chapter often. It will keep us humble and teachable.

  15. 2 Samuel 22:47 The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be my God the Rock my Savior! He is The God who avenge me who puts the nations under me who sets me free from my enemies. You exalt me above my foes from a violent man you rescued me. Therefore I will paise you Lord among the nation’s I will sing the Praises of your name. He gives his king great victories he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed to David and his descendants forever.

    When you put God first in your life he will always fright your battles no matter what they are or how dark it may be. He is an on time God!

  16. 7 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple

    My God hears my cries even when the enemy tries to make me think God isn’t listening. Thank you Jesus!!!

  17. And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

    3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

    4 I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

    Recognizing our strengths and weaknesses is very important. Knowing when we need to run to the Rock that is our refuge and strength, and when we have been empowered to handle the task given.

    David was not afraid to ask for guidance and help and because of his humbleness of attitude he found the favor he needed when he cried to the Lord for help.

    Many times our attitude is what keeps us from receiving what we need. God hates pride and when we come with a haughty, prideful spirit we will not receive what we need.

  18. 2 Samuel 22:33 God is my strength and power and he maketh my way perfect.

    My Heart shall not fear
    Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

    2 Samuel 22:37 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me ; so that my feet did not slip.

    Proverbs 4:12 When thou goest , thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest,thou shalt not stumble.
    13.Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

  19. 2 Samuel 22:2-4 (NLT)
    2) He sang: The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my saviour;
    3) My God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. He is my refuge, my saviour, the one who saves me from violence.
    4) I called on the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies.

    The LORD is Worthy of Praise! He is My ROCK, My FORTRESS, and My SAVIOUR!!

  20. “My God is my rock. I go to him for safety. He is like a shield to me. He’s the power that saves me. He’s my place of safety. I go to him for help. He’s my Savior. He saves me from those who want to hurt me.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭22:3‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

    Thank you Lord for being my shield.

    “Many are saying about me, “God will not save him.” Selah Lord, you are like a shield that keeps me safe. You honor me. You help me win the battle. I call out to the Lord. He answers me from his holy hill. Selah

    I won’t be afraid of the tens of thousands who are lined up against me on every side. Lord, rise up! My God, save me! Strike all my enemies in the face. Break the teeth of sinful people. Lord, you are the one who saves. May your blessing be on your people. Selah”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭3:2-4, 6-8‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

  21. 7 A hostile world! I called to God,
    to my God I cried out.
    From his palace he heard me call;
    my cry brought me right into his presence—
    a private audience!

  22. 32 For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God?

    33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

    34 He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places.

    35 He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.

    36 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.

    37 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.

  23. 21 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
    22 For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
    23 For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.
    24 I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity.

    David qualifies himself as to why God heard his cry for his help; it was because he was righteous in God’s eye. Even though David sinned, when he realized his sin, he was quick to repent. He humbled himself before the Lord and followed after him. He inquired of the Lord, then followed his directions. He was merciful to those who opposed him and rewarded those loyal to him. He was truly a man after God’s heart and here it shows God’s blessings upon his life. I’m thankful for the’ sure mercies of David’ that we know today. When we sin, we repent and are forgiven and restored. He hears our faintest cry, as the song goes, and will be our help and strong tower as we seek him.

  24. 2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

    3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

    4 I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

    5 When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;

    6 The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;

    7 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

  25. “2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
    3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
    4 I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.”

    2 Samuel 22: 2-4

    For every accuser , every trial , every problem …. There is a GOD that is greater !!
    #ThankYouJesus

  26. 2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

    Amen! Hallelujah!!! My God is my everything… Nothing will be needed if I have Him. With Him I can do everything…. I rejoice greatly reading this because what else can I ask for. I have it all!!! I am nothing without Him but because I have Him I am victorious, a conqueror, a witness, have joy, peace, love, understanding, grace, favor, and much more!!! Hallelujah!!!

  27. 31 “God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.
    32 For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock?
    33 God is my strong fortress, and he makes my way perfect.
    34 He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights. (NLT)

    Jesus gives us hope, love, joy, peace… Follow Him! There’s no place I’d rather be than in the perfect will of God.

  28. 3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

    4 I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

    Lord u r worthy of all my praise
    My delivery
    My Strong Tower
    My everything

  29. 33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

    Amen. I can day that I cannot add any words to this. His word is so true.

  30. In God we trust.

    I thank the Lord for taking all the people who hurt me away from me. And believe you me there was alot of them. THANKYOU my savior. You are exactly who and what you say you are a “SAVIOUR “.

  31. exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.

    This is a Psalm that we later find in the book of psalms chapter 18. Many other things perhaps happened after this first scene but I can see that he wrote it down. Let’s not forget the victories that the Lord gives. They may just be what we need at a later time to remind us and boost our faith. The Lord is our help and our strength.

  32. 25 Therefore the Lord hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight.

    26 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright.

    27 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury.

    You reap what you sow.

  33. “GOD made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him. When I cleaned up my act, he gave me a fresh start. Indeed, I’ve kept alert to GOD ’s ways; I haven’t taken God for granted. Every day I review the ways he works, I try not to miss a trick. I feel put back together, and I’m watching my step. GOD rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭22:21-25‬ ‭MSG‬‬
    http://bible.com/97/2sa.22.21-25.msg

    God certainly rewrote the text of my life through salvation. I don’t even want to think about where I would be without him.

  34. This chapter reminds me of a Veggietales song that I’ve known since a kid and it says
    “My God is so big
    so strong and so mighty
    there’s nothing my God
    cannot do!”
    There’s so many great things to say about our God in this chapter and what I say is how great is our God!
    7 “In my distress I called to the Lord; I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears.

    Even through everything God does he still hears our cries out to him! He hears every prayer and cry and he doesn’t just them but he comes to our rescue! We are his children and he is our father come to protect us against the enemy! Hallelujah! Our God is just so great!!! 🙂

  35. God looks after his people. Even when we think there is no way out, God always provides a way. If we continue to put our trust in God, he will continue to take us higher.

  36. 2 Samuel 22:29 (KJV Strong’s)

    29 For thou art my lamp, O Lord:
    and the Lord will lighten my darkness.

    I hold to this scripture. As long as I stay close to the Lord he will light the way. He gives light even in the midst of darkness.

  37. “For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.” The word of Jesus (Creator) recorded “And David spake unto the Lord the words of this song”. David had made mistakes in his life; however he remembered; WHO SAVES, WHO PROTECTS, WHO PROVIDES and in WHOM ALL POWER IS. Dear God, help me to never think highly of self and please remember me. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  38. “They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.” There may come a time when it feels as though everyone turned away or everything has gone wrong. Albeit we must recognize that is the time when we should seek the Lord all the more. God help us with our journey towards you, in Jesus name.

  39. And David spake unto the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:

    God favored David for his sincere loyalty.

  40. 2 Samuel 22:22-24 For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God. For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them. I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity.

    David acknowledged that it was his faithfulness that God used to prosper him. David had fallen to sin in the past, not just lust and adultery but murder. Psalm 51 shows what a truly repented heart prays. David keep his word to God, not just by his words but by the testimony of the blessings he received, the battles he won, and the land he conquered. All the glory was given to him. David, as God had said before, was a man after his own heart.

  41. “He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me. They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭22:18-19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    When things seem to be too strong, the Lord is greater. He is the one who brings peace and comfort. He truly is our hiding place and our refuge. He will cover us with his wing in our time of trials. All we have to do is seek him, follow him, be near him, and be in his presence.

  42. Sing to the Lord a new song!

    David was singing to the Lord from his heart. He was giving thanks to God from his soul. We cannot recite enough scripture or sing enough of someone else’s song to take the place of the song that comes from our heart. God desires that song more than any popular song on the radio.

  43. 1 And David spake unto the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:

    2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

  44. David is first and foremost a warrior. Even though his enemies are strong and mighty he knows our God is greater. The Lord will never leave nor foresake us when we are in battle because the victory is already his. The hindsfeet mentioned is for us to stand our ground against the enemy. When the enemy comes rushing in like a flood the Lord will lift up a standard against him. We are victorious because our God is the victor.

  45. “For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.”(‭2 Samuel‬ ‭22:22‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

    Gods faithful children today are always working for the lord and trying to keep themselves out of trouble and trying to walk righteously and faithfully for we go up against different advisories each day we are blessed to serve him and try to do his works, we have to keep our minds focused on the striaght path that God has prepare for us .

  46. 31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

    32 For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God?

    33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

  47. 18 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.

    19 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.

    20 He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

  48. 7But in my distress I cried out to the LORD;
    yes, I cried to my God for help.
    He heard me from his sanctuary;
    my cry reached his ears.

    We all have experienced trials of tribulations. When all seems to be going wrong, things are against us, when we worry about what is going to happen. All we have to do is cry out to the Lord, he is listening. God will answer our prayers in due time.

  49. 2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
    3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
    4 I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
    5 When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;
    6 The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;
    7 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

    My favorite scripture Psalms 18
    These words have spoken true to me over and over.
    God is my rock. When I am having a hard day, I read these words and they bring comfort to me knowing I am not alone. In my distress I called upon the Lord and He heard my cry. Does that mean the next moment will be perfect? No, but it does mean I have a caring God who will see me through.
