2 Samuel 23

1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

2 The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

5 Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.

6 But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:

7 But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.

8 These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.

9 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:

10 He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the Lord wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.

11 And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines.

12 But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the Lord wrought a great victory.

13 And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam: and the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim.

14 And David was then in an hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the Lord.

17 And he said, Be it far from me, O Lord, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

18 And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred, and slew them, and had the name among three.

19 Was he not most honourable of three? therefore he was their captain: howbeit he attained not unto the first three.

20 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he slew two lionlike men of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:

21 And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.

22 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among three mighty men.

23 He was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard.

24 Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

25 Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,

26 Helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite,

27 Abiezer the Anethothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite,

28 Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite,

29 Heleb the son of Baanah, a Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai out of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin,

30 Benaiah the Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash,

31 Abialbon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite,

32 Eliahba the Shaalbonite, of the sons of Jashen, Jonathan,

33 Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam the son of Sharar the Hararite,

34 Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maachathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,

35 Hezrai the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite,

36 Igal the son of Nathan of Zobah, Bani the Gadite,

37 Zelek the Ammonite, Nahari the Beerothite, armourbearer to Joab the son of Zeruiah,

38 Ira an Ithrite, Gareb an Ithrite,

39 Uriah the Hittite: thirty and seven in all.

Our Mighty Rock,[b] the God of Jacob, told me, “A ruler who obeys God and does right is like the sunrise on a cloudless day, or like rain that sparkles on the grass.”[c] I have ruled this way, and God will never break his promise to me. God’s promise is complete and unchanging; he will always help me and give me what I hope for.” Trust in the Lord. Luke 21:15 CEV says “I will give you the wisdom to know what to say. Oh, how much better our lives would be (and the lives of those around us) if we always allowed the Spirit of the Lord to speak through us, and His words were always upon our tongue!

    Unity

What three mighty men could do if they united to accomplish a task! More than ever we must understand the need to unify in the purpose to conqueror the region of Fort Worth, if we were to put our selfish ambitions aside and do our Kings will, which is to reach for the lost, there would be unprecedented growth.

We need the Lord to put a sense of urgency in our hearts to understand that we do not have today nor tomorrow guaranteed. We will give account for all the people we could have reached had we not been to busy to go to outreach.

    United to grow!

  6. When men follow a mighty man of God, it is easy for them to become mighty. We should always be sure who we follow is following Jesus.
Paul said: 1Cor 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

  7. THE LEADERS CALL TO INTEGRITY

3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

Degrees, Decals and Doctorates lose value where there is no integrity. The GOD of Israel (JESUS) said the all SPIRITUAL LEADERS, those that rule or lead men must be just. No favoritism, no prejudices or preferences. Make decisions based on the fear of GOD.

A WORD FROM THE LORD FOR SOME SPECIAL PEOPLE TODAY

    TLB
2 The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me,
And his word was on my tongue.
3 The Rock of Israel said to me:
‘One shall come who rules righteously,
Who rules in the fear of God.
    4 He shall be as the light of the morning;
    A cloudless sunrise
    When the tender grass
    Springs forth upon the earth;
    As sunshine after rain.’
5 And it is my family
    He has chosen!
    Yes, God has made
    An everlasting covenant with me;
His agreement is eternal, final, sealed.
    He will constantly look after
    My safety and success.[a]
6 But the godless are as thorns to be thrown away,
For they tear the hand that touches them.
    7 One must be armed to chop them down;
    They shall be burned.”

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. (KJV)

  8. iLove to Grow in the Word

This chapter today reveals the importance of rank, authority, and structure. David’s men were organized in the importance of their ranking. Rank was earned through mighty deeds, bravery, and loyalty.

Here at The Pentecostals of Fort Worth there is always something to do. We have programs to help those who are committed to become mighty men and women of valor. Let’s unify and become the great army that God has called us to be.

  9. All these men had the same purpose behind each of their actions – Unity.

If any one of the mighty men of David were to act on their own and break the bond of unity they had in their purpose likely they would fail. We can impact this city if we remain unified in our efforts. It is when factions break out from the flock and begin asserting their own agenda that chaos ensues. SNL (Sunday Night Live) was the perfect environment to solidify any relationships that may have been falling apart. Forgive each other and rebuild the bonds of unity.

Amos 3:3 For how can we walk together with your sins between us?

  10. “If my house were not right with God,    surely he would not have made with me an everlasting covenant,    arranged and secured in every part;surely he would not bring to fruition my salvation    and grant me my every desire.

When we are right with God he will grant us every desire. Deep inside of me the Lord knew my desire was to see a POFW in Spanish even before coming to Pofw….. but I thought it was impossible. I would ask God if I know the truth why do I feel empty???? Why is there not a passion inside of us to do anything, why is there hated and anger toward one another…… why??? We just got tired of that feeling and the Lord sent us here…Hallelujah!!!The moment I realized that there is a church that loves God, loves souls, loves elders, visitors, that the power of God manifests in His house, and a Pastor that truly does care. That was when we started giving out all to God and our lives transformed, our hearts healed, our marriage got put back together, we were able to breathe once again, we were dying spiritually and killing one another, but my God brought us out and I praise God for that. Its amazing what God does when you put Him first…..obedience, obedience, obedience!!!!

  11. 8 These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.
We’re there is vision God gives provision. because they would follow the vision and desire of God God gave him Mighty Men to support him in his vision in fulfilling God’s will. if we follow after God and his vision he will continue to give us the resources to fulfill his will and his work.

  12. 15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the Lord.

These mighty men had served David well and had a heart to truly be a servant to him.

What would happen if we the The Pentecostals of Fort Worth all had this same passion for our purpose in this city? We would all have such a serving spirit that everyday we sought the Lord for His will that day and for divine appointments with people who are hurting and in need that we might minister to them in the manner that the servants of David ministered unto him?

Lord help us all to have this type of serving spirit and attitude to meet the needs the Kingdom.

  13. 2 Samuel 23:15 (KJV Strong’s)
15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

Bethlehem is the birthplace of our savior. So symbolically the well of Bethlehem is the well of the birthplace of our savior.

Oh that I could drink, be refreshed, and quench my thirst at the well of Bethlehem. At the fountain of living water. That I could receive strength for my mind and soul.

  14. 15 David remarked longingly to his men, “Oh, how I would love some of that good water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem.”
16 So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew some water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. But he refused to drink it. Instead, he poured it out as an offering to the Lord. (NLT)

The urgency to serve by these men is a great example of how we should not hesistate to serve our authorities.

  15. 15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the Lord.

  16. 6 But the devil’s henchmen are like thorns culled and piled as trash; 7 Better not try to touch them; keep your distance with a rake or hoe. They’ll make a glorious bonfire! msg
Why hang around with people that are not for you or for God? You hang around with negative people you become negative, I have been told you become the company you keep. Growing up when my parents would tell me this i was like i don’t think so, i’m not doing what they do. But people are watching you and even tho you are not doing something wrong but are hanging with someone that is a bad influence people will put you in that bracket also as doing something wrong. We are to love the sinner NOT THE SIN!!!!

  17. “Then he will be like the light of morning at sunrise when there aren’t any clouds. He will be like the bright sun after rain that makes the grass grow on the earth.’”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭23:4‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Lord, let your glory shine to those who are around me. I desire to be one with you. Cause those around me to see you so they can grow!

  18. 3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

This righteous ruler shall spring forth from the line of David, our savior. He is our refreshing, our healer, the one who sees and knows what we go through and what we have need of. He clearly spoke to us and said that seek ourselves and not him. Lord, I seek you, to draw closer to you, I know you have me in the palm of your hand and have an expected end for me. I trust your will for my life. Let the mind that was in Christ be also in me that I can see things in my life as you see them. I seek your face today and not your hand. Thank you for your word, your goodness and mercy.

  19. 3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

    2 Samuel 23:2

As long as the leaders of the world continue to follow the ideas of man , and leave God out of decisions made world wide continuously …. This world will continue to go down the path it’s going . I pray God begins to become the center for this great nation of ours and nations around the world! #GodGuideUs

  20. 2 Samuel 23:8, “These be the names of the mighty men whom David had…”

Adino – he lifted up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.
Eleazar – he arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day.
Shammah – he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory.

The reason these 3 men were called “mighty men” was because when eveyone else was gone, they stood stedfast and unmoveable and fighting until the LORD wrought a great victory.

    1 Corinthians 15:57-58
    57) But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
    58) Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Remember: Your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

  21. 4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after

We are the light to the world we have the answer for the lost souls! We just got get out our comfortable zones and do it!

  22. All for a drink of water.

Wow. How many of us would do this? Be honest with yourself. Would you sacrifice your life for a glass of water, because your King wanted a drink. These men had a love for their King. That they would do anything for him. Caan we say we would do the same?

  23. 4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

  24. In the military we learn we will do all to honor God and Country! Our motivation is freedom, the freedom that only exist in the USA for this rights we fight no matter what. In the same way here 3 men break the front lines of battle to bring to King David the drink from the well of Bethlehem. Some will not understand why did David pour it unto the Lord. Will you drink water that men were willing to die for? Or will you offer such sacrifice unto God?

15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the Lord.

17 And he said, Be it far from me, O Lord, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

  25. 3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

  26. 3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

God is looking for humble and gentle leaders.

  27. “GOD ’s Spirit spoke through me, his words took shape on my tongue. The God of Israel spoke to me, Israel’s Rock-Mountain said, “Whoever governs fairly and well, who rules in the Fear-of-God, Is like first light at daybreak without a cloud in the sky, Like green grass carpeting earth, glistening under fresh rain.” And this is just how my regime has been, for God guaranteed his covenant with me, Spelled it out plainly and kept every promised word— My entire salvation, my every desire. But the devil’s henchmen are like thorns culled and piled as trash; Better not try to touch them; keep your distance with a rake or hoe. They’ll make a glorious bonfire!”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭23:2-7‬ ‭MSG

Oh how God keeps his word!
He will never leave us or forsake us. He will always be us. He sticks us us everywhere we go.

  28. 2 “The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me; his word was on my tongue.
Holy Ghost flows through! What a awesome God we serve!

  29. 8 These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.
    ……….

39 Uriah the Hittite: thirty and seven in all.

It takes a whole team and unity and shared vision to do great things and acomplish grear victories. David could not do everything on his own but he led others and together they had many victories

  30. 3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

Leaders must be passionate about the things of the Lord and His people. Having a huge desire to work for the Lord will lead to many victories and success.

  31. “The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.” The word of Jesus (Judge) is clear “ruling in the fear of God”. The word of God (Jesus) has also recorded that whenever a ruler, leader, king did not obey, did not fear, did not follow God (there is only one God) than they (children of Israel) did not prosper, were under affliction, were fearful of their enemies and the list goes on. One would be very wise to pray and seek Jesus and truly listen, before choosing. Dear God, remove those that are deceptive and have no fear you, in Jesus name. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  32. “And he said, Be it far from me, O Lord, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.” David was without question thirsty; however he had great regard for his men and would not drink. The Lord gave all for others out of love. David was first chosen by the Lord, as he was also a man after the Lord’s own heart. God help us to see that we must have regard and love for others, in Jesus name.

  33. 1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

David was anointed of God. He served God and was highly favored because he pleased God.

  34. 3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

Between any two points runs a straight line. In fact, you can define any line (mathematically) by any two, distinct points, no matter how close or how far away from each other. The relationship of those two points reveal a direction and its inverse created by the line as defined by the infinite length of the line in either of the two directions.

When we are leaders, we become a “second point” for every believe we have the opportunity to influence. If we are lined up correctly with God, He will ensure that we are positioned in just the right way to point believers directly towards Him when they look to us. However, if we are out of line in any way, then we distort the angle of direction; we may at first appear to still be pointing towards Jesus, but stay along that distorted path long enough and you’ll miss the mark and be lead astray. Even 1 degree of variance in the direction we point belivers will magnify in a vast expanse of missed opportunity when followed for long enough. When we lead others, we must examine our lives to make sure we are submitted (or lined up) in every area. Any area of personal failing will be magnified in the lives of the believers we lead if they continue to follow our lead for long enough. While none of us are perfect, we must strive for to be perfected through Christ in us and live our lives in correct alignment to the best of our ability.

Another sort of line is one formed not by tracing directly between two points but by taking the average of many points using that to finding the line fulfilling the average values they are all scattered around. This can be described as graphing and averaging a “scatter plot.” A scatter plot more accurately describes how Jesus uses imperfect disciples to lead others. On a scatter plot, the points nearest to the average line are usually close enough for us to make a good guess as to where that average line will be drawn without doing any complicated math. In fact, they can stand alone without the full necessity of the points farther out in order to estimate the average line. If one were to only look at the scatter plot without those core points, finding the average might be more confusing. Points way far out are balanced by others further in sometimes, and it can be more difficult visually to simply guess the average due to the greater irregularity in their placement.

Being a leader in the Kingdom means we are not alone in helping other believers get to Jesus. Leaders come together to form the core of the scatter plot so that those farther out have an easier time using our lives as an example to figure out what path to take to Jesus. The more of us there are that are drawing nearer and nearer to that correct average line, the easier it becomes for other leaders to see exactly where to Go. When one of the leaders stumbles, so long as they stay close to the core, then the positive influence of other core members helps to balance out the negative effect of one individual so that the entire average line doesn’t go shifting wildly away from Jesus. This team effort works most effectively when we are together in unity, otherwise we may confuse even ourselves and in each of our own private interpretations of how to move closer to the average line, we end up pulling the entire average line out of place. Jesus uses us as His unified Body and as such as must see ourselves as being together influencing and leading others, knowing our individual actions—for better or worse—make a difference across the entire scope of the Body of Christ.

  35. 1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,
2 The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

I hope that when the time comes, my last words will be about Jesus too.

  36. 15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

  37. David recalls the mighty men who have fought by his side in battle and the victories they have won. When we lift up one another we can see all that the Lord has brought us out of in our testimonies. Each have a unique quality about them the one that stood out the most to me was the last Uriah it wasn’t that he was a mighty warrior though he was a soldier but that he went willingly into battle to the front line for David even when he was plotting his death. He was faithful and that takes the courage of a soldier.

  38. “The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.”(2 Samuel‬ ‭23:2‬ ‭KJV)

We are blessed to have the gift of the Holy Ghost and like all blessings this is also conditional. God wants us to have this gift and use it to give to others. When He is living inside of us we have the opportunity to reach out to the lost out of the darkness and into his marvelous light. He used those who are willing and will speak through them to lift each other up and edify the church.

  39. “And David spake unto the Lord when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s house.” The word of Jesus (Judge) identified leadership. A leader or one wanting to be that continually places fault on others, is NOT a leader. A leader or one wanting to be that refuses to accept the consequences for, their own actions, is a deceiver and can NEVER be trusted. Dear God, open America’s eyes and ears, in Jesus name. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  40. “And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.” David understood the price of true sacrifice, and that it needed to be his own. The Lord wants a personal relationship, which we are risking much, if we think we will make it off of the relationship or sacrifice of another. God help us too understand that you see all things too include our hearts, in Jesus name.

  41. The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

It’s important that we continually make ourselves willing vessels of God that if he desires to speak through us we are ready. That it is not our own words but the Word of God which is forever settled in heaven.

  42. 5“Is it not my family God has chosen?
Yes, he has made an everlasting covenant with me.
His agreement is arranged and guaranteed in every detail.
He will ensure my safety and success.

We too can ask ourselves this question. Are we doing good works for God? How are we involved with a ministry? We all can be doing something for the kingdom of God. Let us be involved in someway in our church.
