1 Kings 5

1 And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.

2 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

6 Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.

7 And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the Lord this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

8 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

9 My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.

10 So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.

11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

13 And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.

14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.

15 And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;

16 Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.

17 And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.

18 And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.

  1. 7 And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the Lord this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

8 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

  2. 12. And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

    Proverbs 2:6
For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

In both readings today, we learn that the Lord gives wisdom. So if you are seeking wisdom, don’t depend on man to give it to you; go to the true source.

    James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

  3. This chapter reminds me of an old Sunday School song we would sing in the nursery:

    Building up the Temple
    Building up the Temple
Building up the Temple for the Lord
    Brother come and help me
    Sister come and help me
We’re building up the Temple for the Lord

We need to build up our workforce and move on to Phase II. Our response should be one like Hiram. We should be delighted and say “I received your request, and It’s as good as done—your wish is my command.” It is honor and privilege to work in the kingdom of God.

  4. iLove Grow in the Word
“He sent them to Lebanon in shifts, 10,000 every month, so that each man would be one month in Lebanon and two months at home. Adoniram was in charge of this labor force.”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭5:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Solomon was kind and compassionate. He was wise and had a plan and system in place. He took good care of his labor force and encouraged family time. Thank-You Jesus for great inspirational leaders.

  5. 12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

  6. 4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

  7. God’s Timing

Most of the time, God’s timing is not our timing; generally because our thoughts are not His thoughts. However, prayer and wisdom can help us better understand God’s plan and timing for things in our life. We may have been studying and training for a special position for many years. We consider ourselves ready to take the lead on a project or team. However, it seems when a position is open we are never considered.

It’s completely normal to be angry about it, especially if you’re in a position where you’ve been there the longest and you have some seniority. How you react is another story. God will work things out in our life if we trust him. It is possible and rather likely that we will have to go through certain trials and wait for His answers.

Wait on the Lord. Be patient. Trust in God’s perfect timing and He will answer you. Then you will hear Him directing you. Isaiah 30:21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, This is the way; walk in it.

  8. 12 The Lord gave Solomon wisdom, just as he had promised him. There were peaceful relations between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty.

We have a faithful and loyal God that does not lie. His Word is full of promises. If we want that peace that only the Lord can give he will give it to u But we have to listen to him. Listen and obey His Word so He may give us what only He can give. Everything we need is in His Word all we have to do is follow Him. Nothing in this world is worth burning eternally in hell.

Proverbs 1:33But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”

  9. UNIFIED TO GROW

12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

We may question the power of being UNIFIED for a purpose. Is it really important or even necessary to accomplish great feats. The scriptures answer this question.

    MSG
Deuteronomy 32:30 How could one soldier chase a thousand enemies off, or two men run off two thousand, Unless their Rock had sold them, unless GOD had given them away?

    Consider the difference that a UNIFIED effort makes. 1 soldier =1,000 and 2 soldiers =10,000 that means 3 soldiers = 100,000 and 4 soldiers = 1,000,000.

    We CAN do THIS!

    The preacher said in:
Ecclesiastes 4:12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

UNIFIED to GROW in this chapter began with an agreement between 2 men.

Hiram and Solomon, but consider how many their agreement affected.

    NLT
13 Then King Solomon conscripted a labor force of 30,000 men from all Israel.
14 He sent them to Lebanon in shifts, 10,000 every month, so that each man would be one month in Lebanon and two months at home. Adoniram was in charge of this labor force.
15 Solomon also had 70,000 common laborers, 80,000 quarry workers in the hill country,
16 and 3,600[e] foremen to supervise the work.
17 At the king’s command, they quarried large blocks of high-quality stone and shaped them to make the foundation of the Temple.
18 Men from the city of Gebal helped Solomon’s and Hiram’s builders prepare the timber and stone for the Temple.

2 men UNIFIED to GROW the house of GOD empowered 183,600 men to GROW (BUILD) the house of GOD.

    KJV
Matthew 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

JESUS reveal to us today the eternal value of being UNIFIED to GROW your Kingdom, your House, Your CHURCH in these last days, these perilous times. Help us at The POFW to be “Laborers together”.

    KJV
1Corinthians 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

  10. 12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

Similar to what Brother Cosner was saying Sunday night, if we unify ourselves together what can we accomplish for God’s Kingdom? The two kingdoms came together and the grandest temple in history was built. My challenge is what can we accomplish when we become unified closer than we ever have before? What mighty mighty works can God use us for if we’ve healed ourselves, let go of our differences, and become fully Kingdom minded. If we pray for our brother or sister’s needs more than our own? What can happen? What now POFW? What choice will you make? Stand unified and strong or fall divided and destroyed?

  11. 12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

God keeps his promises. Solomon asked for wisdom and God gave it to him. His relationship with Hiram is unique. It reminds me of that scripture : “when a man’s ways please the Lord he makes his enemies to be at peace with him.”

  12. 4 But now the Lord my God has given me peace on every side; I have no enemies, and all is well.
5 So I am planning to build a Temple to honor the name of the Lord my God, just as he had instructed my father, David. For the Lord told him, ‘Your son, whom I will place on your throne, will build the Temple to honor my name.’ (NLT)

Although David was originally instructed to build the Lords temple, it wasn’t until Solomon in this chapter began building it. We may not understand Gods timing in every situation but we do need to trust Him. Remember, as a child and servant of God, our purpose is to bring Him glory, not ourselves.

  13. 12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
Sometimes its best we use wisdom on when to talk and not to talk. God help us to have wisdom to do what is right and follow the path God wants us to follow.
God will open doors that we have never imagined as long as we are following him and it is the right time.

  14. 4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

  15. I pray this in Jesus name as we strive to build up His kingdom for all His glory. Only He can give us the complete rest from the adversary by empowering us daily in His presence.

  16. And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

The Lord will always keep his promises. With His promise peace will show up! Thank you Jesus!!!

  17. 2 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name

8 And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.

Solomon purposed in his heart to build the temple that David had visualized and set in motion but did not complete but he had to put for the effort to bring it to pass.

All of us have dreams and visions that God has given us. They are not going to just appear, we must strategize how we will accomplish them and then with wisdom from the Lord bring them into being.

  18. 1 And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.

2 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

I am learning in my own life the value of unity, Matt 3:25 … And if a house be devided against its self, that house cannot stand. A family is something that should be unified, a Church should be unified, any ministry should be unified, and unified with other ministries, my family has seen how not being unified affects us not only spiritually but physically, one goes to church, the other stays home, one wants to stay married the other want to fly, thats not how God intended marraige to be. Thats not how he intended our relationship with the church to be, a very wise sister and leader told me something that impacted me so greatly yesterday, when we are married we become one, but when we seperate its like being cut in half, and both of them are walking around thinking their living, but their not because their not whole, I liken that to the church, when we are born into a church we become one with that church, were family, so when we seperate ourselves from the church and the people of the church. Were no longer one we are half, we may seem like everything is good but deep down something is missing, Help me Lord to finally come out of the wilderness and into the promise land

  19. 3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

In this, I seem to understand that God has a season for every generation. And in our generation, I feel there is coming a time where a great revival is going to burst. So many people will be commiting their lives to Jesus. There will be miracles happening on the streets on every corner and everyone will see the glory of God like never before.

  20. 3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

A house united will not fall, but a house divided will fall. Over the past couple of weeks our house has been that divided one. The devil truly used mine and my wife’s weaknesses to pull us apart. God the great intercessor had other plans though. Now it is time for my wife and I to build a great home according to God. To tear down the walls that have been built up; to unify ourselves against the enemy. I need to get back what the devil tried to take from me. Like the song says, ” I WANT IT ALL BACK”. We need it all for our house to move on. Unity is the only way to stand:

    HEBREW:
yahad: properly a unit, unitedly:– alike, at all, at once, both, together.
    GREEK:
    henotes: oneness, unanimity:– unity.

Psa 86:11 Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

Eph 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

  21. 3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

  22. 7 And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the Lord this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

Wisdom of God gave Solomon his extraordinary ability to lead, organize and operate on such a large scale. Solomon was not intimidated by the monumental task ahead of him of building the first Tabernacle. If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God. We need to operate in his wisdom as we plan and execute winning souls in this region of Ft. Worth. It’s greater than us… but with divine direction and favor, nothing will be impossible for POFW.

  23. 12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

They UNITED to raise up an house unto the LORD!!!
I think that there would’ve been a different outcome had they not UNIFIED!!! GOD IS GOOD!!!
LORD GIVE UNTO US WISDOM THAT ALLLLLL OF POFW UNITE FOR YOUR GLORY!!! JESUS I PRAISE YOU!!! THANK YOU DADDY!!!

  24. “12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.”

Thank God for being a full filler of promise and ALWAYS being faithful! Although we didn’t deserve it , but he continues to do what he does for us because of love. Thank you Jesus!

  25. 1 Kings 5:18, “And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.”

    They worked together. UNITY

  26. 3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

Solomon acted on the opportunity to build the house of God. Unity amongst the people is what brought them together to work together for one purpose. Lord I pray unity upon our families and at Church in Jesus name.

  27. “Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.” The word of Jesus (God) identified the price paid. David and his mighty men obeyed God and fought many battles, which made a way for Solomon and the next generation. Salvation and freedom are similar in that both were purchased with blood; however only the blood of Jesus (Creator) offers hope of eternity with him. Dear God, bless us with revelation and remove from power any leader that will not reverence you. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  28. “My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.” There is much that can be found in the word of Lord as we read here. The method of timber movement was successful and is still utilized. There are also other methods still applicable today that can be found in the word of the Lord, such as how to receive the Holy Ghost. God help us to recognize and seek answers from your word, in Jesus name.

  29. 4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.
Thank you Jesus for spiritual rest! God will fight our battles , or any opposition we may face. We should always place our trust in him. God never fails!! Thank you Jesus for being my deliverer!!

  30. Vs-5
And behold I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God as the Lord spoke unto David my father saying the Son whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room he shall build an house unto my name .

  31. 1 Kings 5:17 (KJV Strong’s)
17 And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.

It takes three types of stones to lay this foundation. Great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones.

Great stones are big boulders, large, and untouched. We all need the great stone Jesus. He is the rock.

Costly stones are those with a price. These are the stones that come about from sacrifice. No foundation is complete without sacrifice.

The third type is the hewn stone. These are stones that are cut, worn down, and shaped. These stones are made in the trials, and challenges of life.

For a solid Christian walk we must have Christ first and foremost, sacrifice, and investment, and trials.

The biggest houses have the strongest foundations.

  32. 12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

Being unified is a matter of wisdom. Together we are more or could say better. May way or the highway will not get you very far but people coming togther sharing one vision makes great things happen.

  33. 2 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

We would be very wise to take notes and approach people in a similar manor when we are trying to get others to join our efforts in working…

  34. Michael
    Solomon made peace with someone.

    Isaiah
They were getting trees and cedar wood to build a temple.

    Joseph
They built a house out of bricks and stones.

    Olivia
Solomon sent a message to somebody and they worked together.

    Selah
They sent letters and they wanted to make peace.

  35. Sometimes our actions prevent us from doing the work of God. David’s hands were too bloody so he could not built the house God. He had to wait for his son to do it. If our actions caused us to have blood on her hands, the blood of new babes in Christ, the blood of our friends and neighbors, the blood of the people we don’t even speak to you, then we too might have to Wait and not do what we want to do for God.

  36. 5. And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name. (KJV)
God’s work is never left undone, He continues to minister through others until His work is finished.
God is still ministering to everyone at the POFW, and there are many souls out there that need to be reached and ministered to.
God is not done with the POFW!!

    11. And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
    12. And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together. (KJV)
When a servant works for the LORD, that servant will receive a Blessing from God. In addition, the LORD never forgets His promises. Never think that God has forgotten your Blessings, because He didn’t forget to give David wisdom.

    13. And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men. (KJV)
Unity is the key to grow. Unity is every member working together as a whole. Unity/Spiritually is praying for one another and motivating others when he/she feels discouraged.

  37. Building the house of God.

I read this chapter and it told me that the house I live in is the Lord’s house and i need to respect it and keep things in control. It’s just me but I can dedicate this house for Him
    JESUS.
I LOVE YOU LORD. I WILL BE A SERVANT THAT YOU ARE PROUD ABOUT. THANKYOU JESUS’.

  38. 3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

God is always confirming his Word to his people Hallelujah!

  39. “And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭5:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Because God had blessed Solomon with wisdom he was able to bring peace in Isreal and make a alley. Wisdom will show!

    – Jose and Dylan

  40. 4But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

  41. 1 Kings 5:7 When Hiram heard Solomon’s message, he was greatly pleased and said, “Praise be to the Lord today, for he has given David a wise son to rule over this great nation.”

That people can say about my children one day, that they took heed of my wife and my instruction. To serve the Lord, and in every thing find a way to give God glory! That people can praise God for the wise decision they made because they decided to follow Him.

  42. 11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

It is wise to be a person of your word.

  43. 4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

  44. David could not build the temple even though he gathered the materials and drawn up the plans. The Lord said it was because he was a man of war and had too much blood on his hands. Thankfully the blood of Jesus our hands can be clean when we repent. David has is a man after Gods heart but cannot move any further but leave the construction of the temple up to his son Solomon. We cannot be used of God any further until we repent also.

  45. “So I’m planning to build a temple. I want to build it for the Name of the Lord my God. That’s what he told my father David he wanted me to do. He said, ‘I will put your son on the throne in your place. He will build a temple. I will put my Name there.’”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭5:5‬ ‭NIRV‬‬
It takes a process to build such a great temple.

  46. “But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.'(‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭5:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

There’s going to be times in life when we think that the whole world is turn against us and that our adversary’s are attacking us from every direction and that sometimes we feel so small and backed into a corner. The Lord promised us rest and peace just like he did to David for Solomon’s reign. David was a man of war and it was time for rest for the people and the land. We will recurve our eternal rest when we finish the race. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”‭‭(Revelation‬ ‭21:4‬ ‭KJV)

  47. 12So the Lord gave wisdom to Solomon, just as he had promised. And Hiram and Solomon made a formal alliance of peace.
