1 Kings 6

1 And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the Lord.

2 And the house which king Solomon built for the Lord, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits.

3 And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.

4 And for the house he made windows of narrow lights.

5 And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about:

6 The nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.

7 And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.

8 The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.

9 So he built the house, and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar.

10 And then he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,

12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:

13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

14 So Solomon built the house, and finished it.

15 And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the ceiling: and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.

16 And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the oracle, even for the most holy place.

17 And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long.

18 And the cedar of the house within was carved with knops and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen.

19 And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the Lord.

20 And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.

21 So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.

22 And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold.

23 And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high.

24 And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.

25 And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size.

26 The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.

27 And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.

28 And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.

29 And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.

30 And the floors of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.

31 And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree: the lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall.

32 The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees.

33 So also made he for the door of the temple posts of olive tree, a fourth part of the wall.

34 And the two doors were of fir tree: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.

35 And he carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work.

36 And he built the inner court with three rows of hewed stone, and a row of cedar beams.

37 In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the Lord laid, in the month Zif:

38 And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.

  1. 12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:

13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

. Our bodies are the temple of God and concerning the house that we build the Lord of ourselves he is saying: ” if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee,”

  2. 7. The stones used in the construction of the Temple were finished at the quarry, so there was no sound of hammer, ax, or any other iron tool at the building site. NLT

These stones fitting together didn’t just happen by accident – there was a lot of planning and preparation to make this happen.

We, ourselves, are not going to fit into the Kingdom of God and make it to Heaven without much planning and preparation. We must allow the Master to shape us as He sees fit and place us according to His plan.

  3. Verses 11-13 MSG “The word of God came to Solomon saying, “About this Temple you are building—what’s important is that you live the way I’ve set out for you and do what I tell you, following my instructions carefully and obediently. Then I’ll complete in you the promise I made to David your father. I’ll personally take up my residence among the Israelites—I won’t desert my people Israel.” Same verses AMP “Now the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying, “Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in My statutes and execute My precepts and keep all My commandments by walking in them, then I will carry out My word (promises) with you which I made to David your father. I will dwell among the sons (descendants) of Israel, and will not abandon My people Israel.” We must remember to NOT get so caught up in doing this, that and the other; that we lose sight of what’s really important……following Him and living the way that He has set out for us.

  4. 1 KIngs 6:11-13 (MSG)
The word of God came to Solomon saying, “About this Temple you are building – what’s important is that you live the way I’ve set out for you and do what I tell you, following my instructions carefully and obediently. Then I’ll complete in you the promise I made to David your father. I’ll personally take up residence among the Israelites – I won’t desert my people Israel.”

“About This Temple You Are Building”
We are the temple of God (1 Cor. 3:16), our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost (1 Cor. 6:19), and “about this temple we are building,” it’s important for us to live the way He wants us to and to do what He tells us to and to follow his instructions carefully and obediently.
For when we do, He will take residence in us. “Jesus replied, ‘If anyone loves me, he will obey my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him.” (NET)

  5. Whereas our church is not quite to the magnitude of king Solomons temple there are still many similarities. What a magnificent place to come to to be in the presence of All Mighty God. Our church is not only a spectacle in the land God has placed us, it is a fortress, a hospital and a hiding place from the world. Gods work through this church is what is going to make it shine brighter than gold and leave images and impressions deeper than an of the carvings and images in any of the chambers of Solomons temple. Hallelujah! The difference is that our temple will not be torn apart and ransacked because we turned our backs on God. God will continue to fortify us. In Jesus name! Amen!!!

  6. 11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,

I believe this commandment is for us as well. We just got ourself a new building as well, but a new building isn’t any good to us if we don’t continue to keep God’s word and commandments and if we don’t continue to keep a passion and fire burning for Jesus. We need to work harder than before for the kingdom of God and continue to press towards reaching souls that need Jesus

  7. iLove to Grow in the Word
1 Kings 6:38 NLT The entire building was completed in every detail by midautumn, in the month of Bul, during the eleventh year of his reign. So it took seven years to build the Temple.

Wow, as I was reading this 2 thoughts came to mind. The first is that God took the great wisdom that Solomon had received, and used him to build a wonderful building. (I honestly don’t think David would have been able to build such a marvelous building.) Second, I’m sure glad it did not take 7 years to build POFW’s new building. 🙂

  8. 12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:

  9. 11-13 The word of God came to Solomon saying, “About this Temple you are building—what’s important is that you live the way I’ve set out for you and do what I tell you, following my instructions carefully and obediently. Then I’ll complete in you the promise I made to David your father. I’ll personally take up my residence among the Israelites—I won’t desert my people Israel.”

  10. The word of God came to Solomon saying About this temple you are building you must live the way i have set you out and you must live the way i tell you to do . Then i will complete in you the promise i have made to David your father .I will take up my residents among the Israelites i wont desert my people Israel.

  11. Are you a doorknob?

This whole chapter was about how and what the building was made out of. The floor, walls, rooms, interior furnishings, etc… However, every time someone will enter or exit they will need to go through a doorway. Likely these doors will have some version of a doorknob. Whether in those days the doorknob was a functional device similar in fashion as we have today or a hook and catch system the doorknob is essential.

A broken doorknob is a useless device – it will either deny entry, deny exit or the building will remain unlocked and vulnerable. It cannot resist entry of those who do not belong. It might even prevent entry of those who do belong. Think for a moment about the various doorknobs in your home. First, is the main doorknob; on the main entry point to your home. Then, think about the many doorknobs within your home; bedroom, bathroom, closets. The main doorknob is very important and is seen by anyone passing by. Interior doorknobs play a crucial role as well. However; sometimes interior doorknobs may lose their identity. The doorknob on the master bathroom – which room does a it actually belong to – the bedroom or the bathroom?

Are you a doorknob? Are you a useful tool people reach for to access God? When people reach for you are you functional and help them access the Lord or are you broken and prevent people from getting what they need?

Matthew 7:7-8 …knock, and it shall be opened unto you: …and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Revelation 3:7-8 …He who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens …

  12. This chapter talks all about building up the Lords temple. It was so detailed, I can only imagine how beautiful it really was. But even in the midst of building, God spoke to Samuel as if to remind and focus him, “Concerning this Temple you are building, if you keep all my decrees and regulations and obey all my commands, I will fulfill through you the promise I made to your father, David. I will live among the Israelites and will never abandon my people Israel.” (1 Kings 6:12-13, NLT). My God is definitely worthy of such a temple. In serving God though, we must remember the goal and purpose of what we’re doing and that’s to obey Him so His Will would be done.

  13. PATIENT TO GROW

38 And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.

I am extremely thankful today for the timing of the LORD. Thank you JESUS that building The POFW did not take 7 years.

Also today I am thankful for the understanding that it takes time to GROW. Trees, people, fruit all take time to GROW. Too much focus on the production will skew the process as Bishop Foster taught us last night. We must maintain our focus on the process not the production. A good process will always produce.

    Process – 1a : progress, advance
    b : something going on : proceeding
2a (1) : a natural phenomenon marked by gradual changes that lead toward a particular result (2) : a continuing natural or biological activity or function
b : a series of actions or operations conducing to an end; especially : a continuous operation or treatment especially in manufacture

A process is not instant but it is sustaining. A process is developing through discipline. A process reveals progress. Most people do not GROW because they abort the PROCESS and abort their PROGRESS.

Solomon worked the PROCESS to PROGRESS 7 years in building the temple.

    Paul instructs us in:
Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  14. 38 And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.

Becoming what God wants us to be is an ongoing process. It took Solomon 7 years to complete the temple that he built. 2 Tim 3:7 says we are ever learning……..

The old Sunday School comes to mind – He’s still working on me to make me what I ought to be. It took Him just a week to make the moon and the stars, the sun and the earth and jupiter and mars. How loving and patient He must be, cause He’s still working on me.

  15. I Kings 6:13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

Rev.21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men , and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

II Corinthians 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with Idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said , I will dwell in them, and walk in them ; and I will be their God and they shall be my people.

  16. 11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,
12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

Regardless of the beauty of the Temple, if Solomon forsakes the Lord, the people will too and God will no longer occupy this carefully built place. Beauty is surface deep, it’s what is in the heart that matters. God won’t occupy an unclean temple whether it is a house or a person. We must continue to GROW in him, keep our temple’s clean, keeping all his commandments, then he will perform his word in our lives. We will see miracles, blessings and souls added to his kingdom.

  17. 11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,

The Lord said he would not forsake the people from Israel if Solomon would obey, follow and do what the Lord says that he’ll keep the promise he made to David by living among the people of Israel in the new temple.

  18. 38 And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.

Reading this chapter made me remember part of yesterday’s leadership lesson. You can’t sustain the outcome if you don’t have a good process.

  19. It took Solomon 7 1/2 years to build Gods temple. It wasn’t a short project, the plans were made, the pieces were built off site then brought together in the final location. Solomon was king for 11 years before the temple was finished. Don’t despise the process. It was the will of the lord for Solomon to build the temple, but something beings Gods will doesn’t speed up or negate the process that has to be gone through.

  20. Solomon built for the Lord, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits.

3 And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.

4 And for the house he made windows of narrow lights.

  21. 12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

Order!!! This is One of the main reasons POFW stands out, THERE IS ORDER!!! GOD IS OF ORDER!!!
THANK YOU DADDY FOR POFW!!! HALELUJAH!!!

  22. 11 The word of the Lord came to Solomon:12 “As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, observe my laws and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise I gave to David your father. 13 And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandonmy people Israel.”

Everyday I read and the Lord shows me day after day to obey His commandments. If we don’t obey we can’t expect Him to give us our desires of our hearts. When we truly put Him first in everything, He will add the rest!!!!! When you want something don’t get impatient but obey and submit. Gods timing is better than my timing. The Lord knows when we are ready for the next step… Like Bishop said we must go through the process……You have to Be before you Become!!!!Don’t get weary buy keep fighting for the kingdom of God. Dream Big because we have a Big God!!! Nothing is to hard for you Lord!!!!! I can do all things through You Father!!!!

  23. 1 Kings 6:7 (KJV Strong’s)
7 And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.

Here we see another reference to stones. In this description the stones were prepared before they were ever used to build the temple. It was like a giant Lego set. Each piece was made to connect, and fit properly once placed on the mount.

Sometimes we question when we will walk into the calling God has for us. There is always a temptation to try and hurry things up. Unfortunately doing so could result in disaster.

We must look at our moldings, and shapings as part of the process away from the final calling. We are being made ready so when God says it is time then we will fit right in where he wants us to be.

  24. 11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,

  25. “11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,
12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.”

As long as we continue to follow the path that God has destined for us since the moment we took our first breath on earth , God will uplift you ! Life is not about money , riches, or fame! It’s about a personal relationship with the king of kings who loves like no other and is the solution to everything in life! I pray we as young people walk hand in hand with God to be DIFFERENCE MAKERS for our GENERATION! #InJesusName

  26. 11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,

12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:

The Lird keeps telling us what a blessing it is to walk in His statutes and stay in His commandments; so why so many of us fall short ??? Proverbs 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
It is not in the falling but in the getting up again, if we stay down when we fall we will not be able to receive His mercy. Solomon with all his wisdom still fell. Lord help us get back up when we fall and run into your house and fall at the Mercy seat. In Jesus Name Amen

  27. 12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:

13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

Thank God for his promises to us. .. but what is more important to our spiritual success is keeping our commitments and our promises to him. If we will keep God’s Judgments and commandments he will bless us!

  28. 11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,

The Lord admonished Solomon to keep all his commandments nit just a few of them but all.

  29. 12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:

God said my word is true but you have to hold up your end of the deal. Prophesies are only good if you obey the word of the Lord and stay in the will of God. Some are quick to point out a false prophet but it was them that missed it.

  30. 11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,

We are the temples of the Living God. The Lord ia concerend in how we keep or maintain our spiritual temple. Walking in his ways the promises of God will follow and God will fulfill his words

  31. Solomons temple must have been beautiful time the eyes. As we should be to God to his eyes. Our temple should be well kept and maintained.

  32. 11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,

  33. 12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father: 13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

The word of God (Creator) is very clear what is required. One that is confused as to why things are, the way they are, must not have read what sayeth the word of God (Judge), as one can clearly read here. Our Nation can be made great if our Nation will repent and seek Jesus (God), as was done in the beginning by our founding fathers. A God fearing leader will NEVER promote; lying, immorality, or coexistence with false gods and beliefs. Dear God, remove the scales from our eyes and unstop our ears, and help America become a God fearing Nation once again. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  34. “And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the Lord.” David wanted so much to see the building of the temple; however he was aware why he would not. Similarly when we do what pleases self and not the Lord, we may already know the answer in our heart why not. God help us do what is pleasing unto you, in Jesus name.

  35. “The foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid in Solomon’s fourth year. It was in the month of Ziv. The temple was finished in his 11th year. It was in the month of Bul. That was the eighth month. Everything was finished just as the plans required. Solomon had spent seven years building the temple.”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭6:37-38‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Lots of planning and hard work went into the temple. A lot of times in our growth in Christ it isn’t over night. Be patient it will be uncomfortable but growth will come.

  36. While the construction of the temple takes seven years, Solomon invests almost twice as much time into building his own palace, in fact 13 years (no coincidence 13 is the number of rebellion). Perhaps this is the beginning of a shift in Solomon’s priorities. As Solomon’s wealth and power grow, so does his distance from the Lord. The Lord warned Solomon that He will only fulfill the promises he made to David and live among the Israelites “if” he follows the regulations, commands and decrees and obey them. How we respond to times of prosperity tells much about our spiritual health. Good times hold a temptation to drift away from the Lord, focusing instead on our own power, wealth or own abilities. We can pinpoint the process of Solomon’s shift in priorities but can we identify it in ourselves enough to repent?

  37. “And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭6:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The stones were prepared ahead of time so that hey could just be inserted into the structure, the church. God chips away at us before he uses us in the kingdom so that we are ready to serve just like these stones. If he were to leave us hey way that we were when we came to the church, before we are prepared, we would not be usable or we would make a great mess. While it hurts for God to smooth out our rough edges, it is necessary for him to form us before we are used. When the master is able to have the stones the correct size and shape, the church is built quickly and will stand through the tests that come.

  38. This chapter explains how elaborate the temple was being built, but God made a very simple statement that it was more important to Him for our lives to be focused on Him rather than things for Him. We need a relationship with Christ that is more than a show for others to see, but a love that runs deep; focus on the inside more than you do the outside…

  39. If we take this 480 years literally, the exodus dates to about 1445 BC. If it is symbolic, in regards to 12 X 40, then perhaps the archeological evidence to suggest a later exodus in the 13th century BC is correct. Scholars are divided and the evidence for a 13th century exodus is inconclusive. Biblical evidence suggest an earlier date. Furthermore, the timeline fits better with the Hyksos rulers (foreign rulers) in the 15th dynasty of Egypt. They would have ruled a few hundred years before the exodus. With this in mind, it is reasonable to hear of the Egyptians suspicion of a growing Jewish multitude. If foreign rulers ruled before then perhaps it can happen again. As it stands, the early date exodus, for me, is more probable.

  40. 7The stones used in the construction of the Temple were finished at the quarry, so there was no sound of hammer, ax, or any other iron tool at the building site.

This shows that the house of God is to be a peaceful place. I place to be quiet and to be still, so we can hear the voice of the Lord.
