1 Kings 14

1 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.

2 And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people.

3 And take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a cruse of honey, and go to him: he shall tell thee what shall become of the child.

4 And Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.

5 And the Lord said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman.

6 And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.

7 Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Israel,

8 And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;

9 But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:

10 Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.

11 Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat: for the Lord hath spoken it.

12 Arise thou therefore, get thee to thine own house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.

13 And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him: for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the Lord God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.

14 Moreover the Lord shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: but what? even now.

15 For the Lord shall smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israel out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves, provoking the Lord to anger.

16 And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.

17 And Jeroboam’s wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah: and when she came to the threshold of the door, the child died;

18 And they buried him; and all Israel mourned for him, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by the hand of his servant Ahijah the prophet.

19 And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

20 And the days which Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years: and he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his stead.

21 And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.

22 And Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.

23 For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

24 And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.

25 And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem:

26 And he took away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king’s house; he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

27 And king Rehoboam made in their stead brasen shields, and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king’s house.

28 And it was so, when the king went into the house of the Lord, that the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard chamber.

29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

30 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days.

31 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his stead.

  1. 5 And the Lord said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman.

Be careful not to steal from God, ten percent of income belongs to God. God will take care of you and provide for you if you give your tithe.

  3. This chapter shows the high price for deception and disobedience. Romans 6:22-23 MSG says “But now that you’ve found you don’t have to listen to sin tell you what to do, and have discovered the delight of listening to God telling you, what a surprise! A whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way! Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master.” Same verses in the CEV “Now you have been set free from sin, and you are God’s slaves. This will make you holy and will lead you to eternal life. Sin pays off with death. But God’s gift is eternal life given by Jesus Christ our Lord.”

  4. 6. And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.

It’s foolish to think that anyone could trick God by pretending to be something they are not.

  5. This is just like what Pastor was talking about. When the parents are in unity with the body of Christ the ointment or oil flows down all the way to future generations. But if a parent removes themselves from the body and the spiritual order of things then not only do they suffer, I believe their children suffer worse. It takes the children completely out of that covering. Jesus help us to be mindful of all that we say and do. Let us be respectful of those that have authority over us. Let us walk in a spirit of peaceful and satisfied submission to our spiritual leaders. May our children reap the spiritual harvest of our sowing. And may they be blessed with the wisdom to use it properly, in Jesus name.

  6. 2 And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people.

    8 And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;

Deception , how can we think that we can be deceptive and get away with it. The problem started way before the deception it was the not keeping of the commandments. Gods commandments ,

The prophet knew because God told him. Don’t ever think you are going to keep something hid from God nor the prophet of God. He hears from God and watches for your soul.

  7. Generational Curse

Parents we need to be careful what we do. God will hold us accountable for our actions. If we continue to sin the consequences are disastrous to our children. Children raised in sinful environments could keep the tradition going and practice similar action, thus falling into an established pattern of disobedience. The effect of one disobedient generation is that wickedness can take root so deeply that it takes several generations to reverse.

    Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

The implication of Exodus 20:5 is that children pattern their lives after their parents; in some cases. A new generation will tend to repeat the sins of their parents. Therefore, God “visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children” is simply another way of saying that the children are repeating the fathers’ sins. We have all heard history repeats itself. This tendency is especially strong in a family environment.

  8. WHAT NOW?

14 Moreover the Lord shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: but what? even now.

With a few poor choices and bad decisions we can make a mess of our lives. Chaos ensues bad character. Judgement fallows wicked works and pain is long lasting.

JESUS is King and LORD of all. He anoints and appoints, who he chooses.

The question posed by the prophet is WHAT NOW? What do you do when reveals disobedience and wickedness. In an attempt to deceitfully receive a word from GOD through the prophet to heal their son. GOD is not fooled, HE is all knowing and WISE. The result of this ignorance is judgement.

We should expect nothing less than correction and judgement from GOD when we attempt to deceive, and take advantage of others.

  9. 7 Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Israel,

    8 And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;

It’s amazing to me how God speaks of David after his death. We all know that David failed and made mistakes. God himself even stats that he rent the kingdom away from David. Nonetheless God said he kept His commandments and followed God with all his heart. The mercy of God was still shone to David after his death and God sees things differently than men sees then.

  10. thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:
10 Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.

  11. 8 I ripped the kingdom away from the family of David and gave it to you. But you have not been like my servant David, who obeyed my commands and followed me with all his heart and always did whatever I wanted. (NLT)

Both then and now, God is looking for people who will obey His commandments, follow Him with all their hearts, and do whatever He asks. Now more than ever, God needs, and this world of lost souls needs, committed children of God to be righteous examples of living and to share the gospel.

  12. 22 And Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.

23 For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

We must be careful to not put things in the place of God. One of the first commandments is have no other Gods before me. We are so prone to get wrapped up in life as we know it, but forget that we are here with a purpose and that purpose is to build the Kingdom of God. When we are too busy for prayer meeting, too busy for outreach, too busy to teach a bible study, too busy for church…….we are too busy.

I always taught my boys growing up that Church and the things to do with Church is our life, everything else we are privileged to do is an added benefit. Today too many people fill their time up with things and activities and only have time for Church life when it’s convenient or “if” they have time. This is backwards. We have created high places, images and placed other gods before GOD. God is a jealous God. We must evaluate our lives and put GOD back on the throne of our heart and let Him reign.

“Every high thing must come down, every strong shall be broken”

  13. 5 And the Lord said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman.

6 And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.

What we try to hide from men we cannot hide from God. He sees all things, hearts all things, and knows things. He is omnipotent, omnipresent and I wouldn’t want to serve a God that wasn’t

  14. iLove to Grow in the Word
1 Kings 14:5 NLT But the LORD had told Ahijah, “Jeroboam’s wife will come here, pretending to be someone else. She will ask you about her son, for he is very sick. Give her the answer I give you.”

It’s so very important to always give the Word that God gives. It will always be tempting to accept gifts, but men and women of God must determine to forsake gifts for the truth.

  15. 1 Kings 14:9 & 22-23
    9) But has done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:
    22) And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.
    23) For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

Jesus told the devil in St. Luke 4:8, “… Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

God wants us to only Worship and Serve Him. He is God, and beside Him there is no other.

  16. 5 And the Lord said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman.

THE LORD WILL LET YOU KNOW THINGS AHEAD OF TIME!!!

16 And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.

THE USA has done much evil before GOD!!! IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE CONTINUE TO PRAY FERVENTLY FOR THE HEALING OF OUR COUNTRY!!!

    James 5:16 ampc
Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].

  17. “8 And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;”

We must follow the path of rightesnouss ! How could one ever reach their purpose without allowing God to guide ?? How can you find your way , your calling when you follow man and flesh rather than spiritual guidance from the Lord?? It’s time for young people to have a new mentality to stay out of routines and “being comfortable” and stand for the gospel ! To follow God’s plan and purpose rather than following what pleases this world ! I refuse to let humanity determine how I live for God so that they can be pleased . If the gospel doesn’t make you feel comfortable then I’m sorry ! But I pray this generation wakes up and see’s the importance of walking with God and the importance of salvation in their lives ! #DefendTheTrueGospel

  18. 16 And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.
22 And Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins…

All of Israel has stopped serving the Lord and have begun to live their lives their own way, with no regard for God’s. They have forgotten the blessings and miracles of being delivered from Egypt and inheriting a good land given to them through Father Abraham. Being in a blessed state can cause us to ease up on prayer, church attendance and even in seeking God! We can become preoccupied with our life because it is easier now. We need to learn from Israel’s mistakes and stay the course…keep living for God his way!
Matt 7:13-14 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait (confining) is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

  19. 6. And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.

    Galatians 6:7 Version (amp)
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed, nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scornfully set aside]; for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap.

  20. 10 Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.

We as leaders must be careful what we do because we don’t realize whom it affects until later! It is a key to show good values when also not around others! What is done in the dark will come to light! Be careful of the friends you choose and the company you keep!

  21. 1 Kings 14:9 (KJV Strong’s)
9 But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:

God is not a playing card, or a toy soldier. He isn’t just one of the many gods that can be called upon. He won’t play second fiddle to any, and says that he is God alone and beside him there is no other.

The quickest way to lost the protection and blessing of God is to put him in the deck of all the other gods and just pull him out when you need him.

God is a jealous God and does not allow competition or compromise.

Deut 6:5 love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your might.

  22. 22And Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.

  23. Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Israel,

    8 And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;

9 But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:

God may place you in a position of honor but if you disobey or depart from His way; He can take you back down. Why risk eternity stay with the Lord Jesus Christ!

  24. 6 And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.

7 Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Israel,

    8 And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;

  25. 14-24
Cultic prostitution involving both sexes was carried on at the Canaanite religous shrines. These debased practices became a stumbling block to Israles spirtual experience. They would contribute to Gods judgment to Judah.

  26. Both the house of Judah and Israel are separated from each other and from God they both did whats is wrong and sinned against God making themselves idols to worship. Seems like division goes far beyond than a split but has twisted the view of the holy and every man doing his own thing or what they believe is right. In essence it is the worship of oneself, what i think, what i believe, my will…. Over the will of the Lord.

  27. 12 Arise thou therefore, get thee to thine own house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.

Don’t expect a blessing from Jesus when you refuse to sumbit and follow His commandments.

  28. You may be able to deceive others, but you can’t deceive God. It’s time to take off the mask and be true. Deception only leads you further down a dark road.

  29. God won’t let you make a fool of his servant

5 And the Lord said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman

God will protect his servant from evil. Anyone who plots against the man of God is walking in to trouble
with God. Don’t try to get God to do what you want him to do, try to figure out what he wants you to do.

  30. “And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.” The word of God (Judge) records was “because of the sins of Jeroboam”. One that is still in denial and confused, as too why things are the way they are, needs too truly seek God. One can either do ones part, or one can sit back and watch; however it is one’s children that will pay the price. Dear God, awaken us that we would truly pray. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  31. “Arise thou therefore, get thee to thine own house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.” It did not say Jeroboam’s wife cried out to the Lord; however she may have. A mother cannot afford to wait in crying out to the Lord for their children, as there may not be enough time. God help us see the importance of continually praying for our children, in Jesus name.

  32. 1 Kings 14:14 “The Lord will raise up for himself a king over Israel who will cut off the family of Jeroboam. Even now this is beginning to happen.

If you won’t do it, God will raise someone who will!

When the Lord calls us to go, some obey and some wait. I’m gonna focus on the ones who go. We have answered the call like Jeraboam did. But can God call us and hold us accountable for what He has commanded us to do or are we not. God is very black and white with many issues. He hates idolatry, disobedience, worldliness, etc. When we compromise and standard he has set, are guilty of rebellion. The very think that got Satan kicked out of heaven for.
We do not realize that Gods will will always prevail and that if we are not aligned with his purpose we are against it. He will raise a willing vessel to continue His work. Need an example, remember the disobedient prophets and kings!

  33. Jeroboams blatant sin comes back to punch him in the face through the death of his son. He opposed God and open up the flood gates of judgement in which God vowed to wipe his name off the face of the earth. It is silly of us to trust in ourselves over God yet we insist on doing it.

  34. Verse 6

She pretended to be something that she was not. Even a blind only man could tell she was a fake when she stepped foot into the room. There are so many periods around today that don’t realize that God is telling their business. They think that their little lie will fool those who they encounter or even some of the people that they know. The problem with that is that God tells your business and then the lie no longer works. Just be truthful to begin with. It makes things easier for everyone.

  35. “” ‘Because of that, I am going to bring horrible trouble on your royal house. I will cut off from you every male in Israel. It does not matter whether they are slaves or free. I will burn up your royal house, just as someone burns up trash. I will burn it until it is all gone.”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭14:10‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

The choice of one man caused his house trouble.

  36. 5 And the Lord said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman.
Don’t try to fool God. He always knows the truth.

  37. Some key moments can be described as mountain top experiences. In ancient times worshippers often went to the top of a hill or mountain to separate themselves from their daily routines and draw closer to their pagan gods many of whom they believed lived in the sky. Places of worship which came to be known as high places were eventually established on many of the hills and mountains of Israel. Nimrod tried to build the Tower of Babel to reach the heavens and since he was unsuccessful it seems pagan worshippers have utilized what they could to continue false worship. Worship at these places was expressly forbidden to the people of God. (Lev 26:30; Nu 33:52). Going to high elevations isn’t the problem because even Jesus went up mountains to pray but it’s the purpose behind it.

  38. 5 And the Lord said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman.

  39. 9You have done more evil than all who lived before you. You have made other gods for yourself and have made me furious with your gold calves. And since you have turned your back on me

Just because you have someone to look up too, doesnt mean you’ll be like him. A father may be an excellent example to their son, but the son turns out to be rebellious and rejects God. This son may even be worse than you can imagine. This shows, it’s an individual choice to follow God.
