1 Kings 17

1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

2 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,

3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

5 So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

8 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,

9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

12 And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.

17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

20 And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.

22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.

  1. 5 So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

8 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,

9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold

God could have sent the rain but He waited. There were more miracles to be performed. There was more faith to be grown. Trust being built in the life each person involved. Through the faithfulness of Eljah. The dried up brook, the journey to the widows house, the pain of a widow , her lack of food, and then another tragedy on top after providing for the prophet. Oh but God was dong a work so that He could be glorified. Life, breath, provision faith increased in the most troubling situations. But because the woman gave God was faithful ! Because the prophet was obedient there were miracles being seen. No matter what our life situation is God is faithful!

  2. I Kings 17:10-16 When genuine faith is tested it brings glory to God and works for the good of the believer

I Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

  3. 15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

The very person that God uses to sustain you in your time of need will come to you in their time of need. We must be sensitive to those around us so that God can use us. We must slow down, listen to that still small voice and then impart to others what God has given us.

She extended the life of the prophet by providing a meal for him. He extended the life of her son interceding to the Lord on the child’s behalf.

  4. 3. Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

    4. And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

Notice that God didn’t say that He would command the ravens to feed him, but that He already had. God provided for him to be there before he ever left to go there. What God did for Elijah, He will do for you. Before He sends you somewhere, He’s already provided a way to sustain you there. He is Jehovah Jireh!

  5. iLove to Grow in the Word

5So Elijah did as the lord told him and camped beside Kerith Brook, east of the Jordan. 6The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook. 7But after a while the brook dried up, for there was no rainfall anywhere in the land.

The prophet spoke the Word that God had given him. The thing about it is, when the Word was spoken after the process of time, it caused the resource to dry up. We must never get worried about the consequences of speaking the Word. This is the cause of the failure of many churches. They fear the Word will cause famine in their finances and so they water down the Word. The same is true with the family unit. The husband fears the consequences of speaking and upholding the truth of the Word and the result is watered down family values. The truth of the matter is, Speak the Word and watch God help you overcome the temporary famine.

  6. GROW THROUGH OBEDIENCE

8 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

The call of GOD is not our choice to make, it is our choice to obey. We often confuse and twist our roles with GOD. Our flesh prefers to tell GOD what we are going to do.

In this chapter we witness FAITH in action. GOD said and Elijah did. Elijah did not question, complain nor contend with GOD, he simply obeyed the voice of GOD.

Elijah knew what the widow didn’t. Elijah knew GOD was going to provide, the widow woman had no idea. We GROW in GOD through FAITH when we obey what GOD has said.

One of the most humbling aspects of Ministry is asking people who are financially challenged to give of their resources to GOD. GOD could have sent Elijah to a rich man or an established family, but NO, GOD sent him to a poor, broke and depleted widow. The result of the OBEDIENCE of Elijah, was the widows opportunity for OBEDIENCE and BLESSING.

The poor, broke unemployed widow OBEYED what GOD said to her through Elijah and GOD Blessed HER as he Blessed Elijah through her.

Obey the voice of GOD today as we give to his Kingdom and witness miraculous provision. Notice the widow put GOD first and she was BLESSED.

Seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of GOD.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive

  7. “She said, “I swear, as surely as your GOD lives, I don’t have so much as a biscuit. I have a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a bottle; you found me scratching together just enough firewood to make a last meal for my son and me. After we eat it, we’ll die.””
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭17:12‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Do we have enough faith to perform in the same manner? I would like to think I do but cannot answer for sure until I am in such a situation. As a husband and father I have been in situations where there was not enough food to go around. I have been hungry. By God’s grace it has not happened too many times and He did provide a way for my family to eat.

Do we have more faith in a light switch illuminating a light bulb than we do in our Heavenly Father? I would predict yes. Why? I would venture to say it is due to the immediate satisfaction we have grown accustomed too. Microwaves, drive-thru’s and meals delievered to our homes has spoiled us to not have to wait. Sometimes, God’s promises take time – are we willing to wait?

  8. 13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
When we bless the man and woman of God and when we bless the people of God He will bless us. .. notice first that he asked her to bless him first then take care of herself. .. sometimes we must put others ahead of us and to receive blessings that never stop flowing!

  9. 13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.

Faith is a key in our lives, it’s hard for to make the step of faith in our lives when we hear God telling us to give our last two dollars we had, or when the man of God in our lives asks to do something that we think we can’t do. But don’t let fear control your thinking and let faith come alive in you. Through faith, all things are impossible with God when we give him the opportunity to move in our lives.

  10. Elijah understood the importance of following the commandments of God. In doing so, God heard the prayer of his servant and revived the boy. When we get in line with the plan of God, great and mighty things can happen.

  11. 1 Kings 17:12-15
    12) And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
    13) And Elijah said unto her, Fear not: go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
    14) For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
    15) And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

“Fear not” – “she went and did according to the saying”
    Don’t Fear but Have Faith!!

  12. 1 Kings 17:15 She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.

If we obey your the man of God (Pastor) in all he says God will bless and honor us

  13. 15-16 And she went right off and did it, did just as Elijah asked. And it turned out as he said—daily food for her and her family. The jar of meal didn’t run out and the bottle of oil didn’t become empty: God’s promise fulfilled to the letter, exactly as Elijah had delivered it!

How obedient and faithful this woman was! As soon as Elijah spoke truth of a promise she didn’t ask or doubt but obeyed and put faith into his word. I pray that I have this faith and obedience. And that one day just like the women, people will realize the truth in Gods word, when it’s not to late.

  14. 6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

The Lord. Will provide your needs.

  15. There is no doubt of God’s provisions for us!!! Phillipians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
In this chapter God shows that no matter what is going on around you, where you might be, as long as we are obedient HE WILL PROVIDE. He is my Jahovah Jireh my Provider!!!!!!

  16. 3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

God is our provider and he is a untime God.. yes he is!

  17. 1 kings 7:13 NLT butv elijah said to her dont be afraid. Go ahead and do just what you’ve said but make little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to paepare a meal for yourself and your son 14 ) for this is what the lord the god of Israel say there will always be flour and olive oil containers until The time when the lord Send rain and the crops grow again
16 there was ALWAYS ENOUGH FLOUR and OLIVE OIL left in the containers just as the LORD PROMISE

This chapter speak to me about provider god

We don’t need to be afraid about not having enough food or drink or clothing or even money for there is coming a day when all these thing will pass aways

We see in Revelations that we can’t buy or sale without the mark of the Beast. Then is when we will be test we need to know that god is our provider and he will Supply all our needs
    In Matthew 6:26
That’s is why i tell you not to worry about everyday life whether you have enough clothes to wear isn’t life more than food and your body more than clothing

28 And why worry about yonr clothing look at the lilies of the field and how they grow they don’t work or make their clothing 29) yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully As they are 30 ) and if god care so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and Thrown into the fire tomorrow he will certainly CARE FOR YOU why do you have so little faith

MY GOD IS MY PROVIDER YOU ARE MORE THEN ENOUGH

SO WE DON’T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING FOR GOD ALREADY KNOWS OUR NEEDS AND I KNOW HE WILL PROVIDE

  18. 9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee

14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

The woman did not even know it but God had commanded a blessing over her household. Sometimes it takes us by surprise when we are asked to do something sacrificial by the man of God because we think how can I do this? Or u dont have the means. Obedience brought her a blessing that brought her through and blessed her in a time of need. We just sometimes cant always tell when God has commanded for us to be a blessing and Him blessings us in the same way.

  19. 1 Kings 17:24 (GNT with Deuterocanon)
24 She answered, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the Lord really speaks through you!”

What will it take to make you believe. The widow woman had witnessed miraculous provision daily from the Lord. Her son dies and she immediately accuses the man of God. She forgot about the miracle. God allowed the child to die and then brought back to life so that she would know he was a man of God and that the Lord really does speak to him.

We should remember Nathan whom the Lord spoke to and said blessed are those who believe and haven’t seen.

  20. “And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.” The word of Jesus (God) identified consequences. They would face the consequences of their sin and disobedience, only this time in another way. One need only too open one’s eyes and ears too hear of the horrific daily acts that are occurring; however sin continues to abound. Dear God, awaken us that we may earnestly seek you for self and also for those that do not see the need. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  21. “And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?” She felt her sin cost her son, which un-repented and uncovered sin will have a price. Thankfully the Lord will not call to remembrance if we truly repent and change our ways; however self may. God let us remember that your word says your blood washes and makes us whole and that the devil is a liar, in Jesus name.

  22. 4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

When we allow our flesh to get in the way we block the blessing that God has for us! But when are ordered by the LORD its a supernatural move that occurs! Be sure your are ordered by the LORD in all you do!

  23. 14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.

  24. Elijah disregarded the custom to not touch a dead body and the boy was raised. Sometimes we do unorthodox things in faith and God moves. Let us continue to think outside of tradition and outside of the box and allow God to use us as He sees fit.

  25. 22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

  26. “And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.”(1 Kings‬ ‭17:21‬ ‭KJV)

Neither this woman’s faith nor obedience would stop the death of her son. When the mother spake to the prophet it was to vent of her sorrow, and not in hope of his healing. Before the prophet showed up she was content to gather up sticks to prepare their last meal. Her obedience to the prophet benefited her with substance but their was more for her to challenge her faith. Sometimes God will use drastic measures to wake us up from contentment that leads to death.

  27. A widow and her son reach the absolute end of their resources never imagining the miracle God has planned. The same God who caused the drought is perfectly able to to provide for this woman and her son, and through them, to his prophet. The provision of food for Elijah through ravens is extraordinary enough (vs1-6) the supernatural abundance of the flour jar and oil jug is supernaturally miraculous. When our own resources appear to be tapped out, we, too can trust that our God is greater than our natural circumstances.

  28. Activating Faith

“And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭17:24‬ ‭KJV

This is the point when the woman realizes that the Lord was with Elijah. Funny how she did not think it was miraculous when the family ate on the meal and oil for a long time. Funny how she couldn’t see that she was walking through her miracle. It was when her child came from the dead that she finally activated her faith. We have to activate our faith earlier. If we don’t we will constantly be living in the fear that some thing is going to die (physically and/or spiritually). We need to recognize Gid’s hand on us and watch him move mountains.

  29. What faith for both Elijah and the widow woman. They both trusted in the Lord and did exactly as they were asked to do regardless of how things looked or what their reality was. Psalm 62:8 AMP says “Trust [confidently] in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us.” Phillipians 4:19 AMP says “And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

  30. 4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

God will take care of you in every situation. All you have to do is listen and be obedient.

  31. 13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

The man of God knew the voice of the Lord and trusted & obeyed his directions. The widow woman had to trust the man of God and what he said the Lord would do for her through her obedience. She did trust and obey and as a result we know God performed his word. But it wasn’t until Elijah prayed and brought her son back to life that she truly believed he was a true man of God! Lord, increase our faith during the trials of life, that you have it all under control and that you are with us through it all, no matter what the trial is.

  32. 13. And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
    14. For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
    15. And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
    16. And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah. (KJV)

Fear not for God is with you!

Fear nothing, because God is with you! Nothing is impossible for God! Thank You Jesus!!
If you have faith in God and obey his word, everything will fall into place.

    Psalm 23:4
    I Corinthians 10:13
    Psalm 27:1

  33. 7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

A prophet, a widow, and a son; separately they are all thirsty and hungry. Yet, together they meet each others need. We must remember that we are not alone but when we are in a dry place and we are hungry and thirsty that God has placed people there with us to strengthen us. It is up to us to allow God to lead them to us and we must be wise enough to follow the instructions of the man of God and allow keep our minds on the harvest (aka son). The Son gives the mother life. Just imagine your husband is gone and there is no rain and no food. Your first mind would be to give up. Yet, when you have a child your mind says fight. If not for yourself for that child.

In the driest of places if we could keep the fight in us for the harvest it will save us fro death.

  34. “The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning. They also brought him bread and meat in the evening. He drank water from the brook.”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭17:6‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

The Lord always has a plan.

  35. Jesus is not blind to our needs, regardless if they are physical, spiritual, or mental. He will take care of us.

  36. 4 Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to bring you food.”

Even an unclean bird like a raven brought food to Elijah. Spiritually, even an unclean person comes to God at first. Then God uses this person for his purpose. We all were unclean at one time, until we were baptized in his name, and became clean.
