1 Kings 18

1 And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.

2 And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.

3 And Ahab called Obadiah, which was the governor of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the Lord greatly:

4 For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

5 And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.

6 So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.

7 And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord Elijah?

8 And he answered him, I am: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

9 And he said, What have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?

10 As the Lord thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.

11 And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

12 And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the Lord shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear the Lord from my youth.

13 Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the Lord, how I hid an hundred men of the Lord’s prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

14 And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here: and he shall slay me.

15 And Elijah said, As the Lord of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely shew myself unto him to day.

16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet Elijah.

17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?

18 And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and thou hast followed Baalim.

19 Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table.

20 So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.

21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

22 Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the Lord; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:

24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.

25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.

26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.

27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.

28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.

29 And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.

31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the Lord came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:

32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.

33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.

34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.

35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.

36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.

37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.

38 Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God.

40 And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,

43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not.

45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

46 And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

  1. How exciting to read the faith of Elijah…..even though the land was in a severe drought, he order the altar to be drenched in water. I can only imagine the thoughts and fears of the ones watching thinking this guy is crazy using up our last bit of water. But, oh here comes the fire, as verse 38 says MSG “Immediately the fire of God fell and burned up the offering, the wood, the stones, the dirt, and even the water in the trench.” Then verse 41 says MSG “Elijah said to Ahab, “Up on your feet! Eat and drink—celebrate! Rain is on the way; I hear it coming.” Can you hear it??? It’s coming….Ezekiel 34:26 NLT says “I will bless my people and their homes around my holy hill. And in the proper season I will send the showers they need. There will be showers of blessing.”

  2. 38. Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

God proved that He was not only the God of Israel, but that He had dominion over the sky, fire, animals, wood, stones, dust, water…in other words, the Only God!

46.And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Can you imagine how hard Ahab ran his horse, trying not to be out-run by a man on foot?

  3. 17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?

18 And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and thou hast followed Baalim.
The world thinks that God’s people are the problem, but they are they are the one’s with the problem if they do not repent and turn to Jesus.

  4. (KJV)

    (MSG)
3-4 Ahab called for Obadiah, who was in charge of the palace. Obadiah feared God—he was very devout. Earlier, when Jezebel had tried to kill off all the prophets of God, Obadiah had hidden away a hundred of them in two caves, fifty in a cave, and then supplied them with food and water.

Devout honestly i didn’t know what that mean’t and so I search up the meaning and it turns out devout means some religious feeling or commitment and I like the word commitment so he was very committed to God he hid the prophets

  5. 1 Kings 18:39, “And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God: the LORD, he is the God.”

    Phil. 2:10-11
    10) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
    11) And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is LORD, to the glory of God the Father.

    JESUS CHRIST Is LORD!!

  6. iLove to Grow in the Word
1 Kings 18:46 NLT Then the LORD gave special strength to Elijah. He tucked his cloak into his belt and ran ahead of Ahab’s chariot all the way to the entrance of Jezreel.

There are times in which God gives humans superhuman strength and ability. On the flip side, the enemy sometimes gives his servants superhuman strength and ability. Acts 19:14-16 NLT Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this. (15) But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?” (16) Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered.

The good thing about being servants of the Lord is that we will always be stronger than the enemy. Greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world.

  7. YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Simple obedience in FAITH can be the most challenging decision to make. The prophet gave instructions and the servant struggled to obey. The WORD of GOD teaches us that “fear hath torment”. The servant struggled with fear. Fear of what man could do to him, fear that he would be left alone to struggle with Ahab.

The prophet assures the servant with testimony of the fact “YOU ARE NOT ALONE”. Elijah the prophet builds FAITH in the servant through questioning him in regards to a past experience.

We should be encouraged by past testimonies that WE ARE NOT ALONE and that we should TRUST GOD and not only man. We should live and move in FAITH because YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

  8. 37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.

    Hallelujah!

  9. 21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

There comes a time when we must make up our minds and stop going back and forth trying to decide if we should serve God or not. We must give God our whole hearts and not look to the right or left!

  10. 30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.

The miracle here was not done for Elijah’s sake. Elijah was a man of God that served faithfully and knew who the one true God was. The miracle was done for the people who were torn between two beliefs. Miracles aren’t just handed out because they are desired, miracles are tools God uses to reach people who are unbelievers. We can’t hoard the testimony of a miracle in our lives, that miracle is meant to save someone else too.

  11. 29 And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

  12. The people had been in a season of drought. Elijah prayed for rain, believed for rain, and kept sending the servant to see when the rain was coming.

We have been praying for unity and harvest. We have been believing for unity and harvest. Every service we come with great anticipation that this will be the service when complete unity will be achieved and the mighty harvest that we have been praying for and expecting will open up and altars will be full of people repenting, being filled with the holy ghost, baptisms in the name of Jesus and transformations taking place.

We’ve felt a few rain drops of the promised rain, but we will continue to believe and pray until the heavens are opened and the spiritual rain falls.

  13. 39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God

There is coming a day that when every knees will every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is our Lord

I am glad that we had a man that had faith Elijah knews that his our god will answer by fire the bible say that elijah mock them saying were ur god elijah knew that his god will be the one that answers by fire the bible said when they see what god had done . they face down on the ground surly your lord is god
They made up there mind they throw away their gods and made up their mind i am going to serves king of kings lord of lord Jesus. They made up their mind their ONLY ONE GOD WHO ABOVE ALL THROUGH ALL AND IN YOU ALL

  14. What a might God!!

Records show Baal as a weather god, with particular power over lightning, wind, rain, and fertility. Here Elijah tells the prophets of Baal to perform to his supposed strength; to call down fire to light the sacrifice.

So, not only did Baal not answer with lighting – for which he is supposedly in control of – but The One True God consumed the entire sacrificial area including the water – another element Baal was supposed to control. Keep in mind there was a devastating drought in the area. What a Mighty God we serve.

  15. 44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not.

45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

That may seem like a small thing at first glance could be where all of our blessing provision comes from. Don’t despise the little things

  16. 45-46 Things happened fast. The sky grew black with wind-driven clouds, and then a huge cloudburst of rain, with Ahab hightailing it in his chariot for Jezreel. And God strengthened Elijah mightily. Pulling up his robe and tying it around his waist, Elijah ran in front of Ahab’s chariot until they reached Jezreel. MSG

    God strengthened Elijah!

  17. We must make up in our minds to obey God no matter what the cost. Living for God is such an honor and so fulfilling. How could anything thing else do?

  18. “43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not.”

The power of perseverance ! Young people ! Just because your prayer has not been answered already, does NOT mean you should give up the prayer for that specific need! Whether it’s praying for a sickness, addiction , trial, or situation ! Do not be discouraged with God’s timing , because his timing is ALWAYS the perfect time! If it doesn’t happen the first time then pray again! If it does not happen that time then pray again ! And again and again! It’s time to PERSEVERE & OVERCOME!! #FaithInAction

  19. 1-2 A long time passed. Then God’s word came to Elijah. The drought was now in its third year. The message: “Go and present yourself to Ahab; I’m about to make it rain on the country.” Elijah set out to present himself to Ahab. The drought in Samaria at the time was most severe.

God is so good he didn’t just rain on a physical drought but he rain on the spiritual drought that was in Samaria! God let it rain through out the hearts of the people who served baal! The dry dead spirit that was in the people was changed to see God because he is alive! God let it rain on the people and made them live! What a awesome God we serve!

  20. Yet I your servant have worshiped the Lordsince my youth.

This is one of my prayers Lord to see a generation of young people leave everything that the world offers them and just live for Jesus!!!! When a youth dedicated their life the Lord they can move mountains and change the world. A youth can be a leader to a child and a motivation to an adult. Even of their young…. They can be an impact to this region. Just like yesterday because a youth put a flyer on a door. That soul got baptized and filled with the HG. Praise God!!! It is time youth!!!! We can do all things through Christ…🎤🎤🎤🎤What can we do….ANYTHING🎤🎤🎤🎤 Amen

  21. 39 And when all the people saw it, they fell face down on the ground and cried out, “The Lord—he is God! Yes, the Lord is God!” (NLT)

God is waiting for us to put our faith in action. Once we do, He will surely show himself mighty and all will see that the Lord, He is God and God alone!

  22. 30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me.

In this miracle, God showed up and showed himself the Almighty but the first step that occurred was that Elijah repaired the altar. He had just told the people to come near so that they had a clear view of the repair of the altar, reminding them of their heritage with the 12 stones for each tribe. Elijah commanded water for the altar, not fearing man or drought, but trusting in the word he had from God. Then the people knew that the Lord was God and not Baal, but there first had to be a repair of the altar. Lord, help me repair the altar in my life so that the storms of life do not affect my faith! I know that no matter what life brings, you are with me! I praise you through the good or bad. Just heard it preached a while back that some things have to break in order for God to give you something better…trusting God for something better today!

  23. 37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.

Your obedience to God might just win a soul to God!

Lord use me as a vessel of your glory! That as we are obedient you would see it and send your revival fire down to turn the hearts of our nation to you!!

  24. 16 So Obadiah went straight to Ahab and told him. And Ahab went out to meet Elijah. 17 The moment Ahab saw Elijah he said, “So it’s you, old troublemaker!” 18 “It’s not I who has caused trouble in Israel,” said Elijah, “but you and your government – you’ve dumped God’s ways and commands and run off after the local gods, the Baals. MSG

  25. 21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

My heart is fix, my mind is made up. I made my mind up a long time ago. There no turning back, I’m going with Jesus all the way.

  26. 37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.

This chapter is a great read for anyone who needs to be encouraged in their faith with God. Elijah had great faith in God no matter what the circumstance is. And the best part is he didn’t hide his faith or put it in the closet, he displayed for everyone to see. And because of this, God was able to work in him and use him to help bring more people to know that he is the only God, and they were being deceived by false gods. He used his faith to help win souls.

  27. 41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

Listen to what you hear. So many people just keep running their mouths that they don’t hear what God is telling them. So listen.

  28. 21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

Two opinions. There is only one God. He proved himself when the fire consumed the entire sacrifice alter and even the water. What a faithful God we serve. I do not want to be suspended between two opinions but want to know assuredly who the true living God is. There is none other than Him. He alone is God. I will follow Him and no other.

  29. 1 Kings 18:17-18 (GNT with Deuterocanon)
17 When Ahab saw him, he said, “So there you are—the worst troublemaker in Israel!”
18 “I’m not the troublemaker,” Elijah answered. “You are—you and your father. You are disobeying the Lords commands and worshiping the idols of Baal.

When you do the work of the Lord you are the antithesis of status quo, political correctness, and societal norm. No matter what you do, or how nice and loving you try to be you will never truly fit in with the world and it’s system. If you truly are living for God they will think you to be the problem when you are really the solution.

Jesus said “don’t worry about it if people say they hate you. They hated me first” (paraphrased)

  30. 24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.

    Let him be God.

God doesn’t force anything. He lets us make our own choices. So we have to let him be God!

  31. 37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.

  32. 7 And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord Elijah?

8 And he answered him, I am: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

What a great Joy!!! To know your master and to be able to welcome him at his return! I can only live improving every day until My Master Jesus Christ comes back and I will welcome His Glory and vast in His presence.

  33. “And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and thou hast followed Baalim.” The word of God (Judge) declared who was to blame. The king was followed, even though some did not believe the way that he believed; nevertheless they all paid the price. One that cannot see what is transpiring today and in this very hour, needs to pray. There is only one God. The name of God is Jesus. Anyone that states it does not matter how one lives, or who one worships is a deceiver. One that trusts a deceiver is unwise. Dear God, open America’s eyes that we would seek you all the more. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  34. “And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God.” The Lord showed his power and the people responded. The Lord continues today to show his power; however our response may not be as it should. The Lord will return and soon, which there may not be time enough to respond. God help us to comprehend and respond in a way that is pleasing unto you, while there is time, in Jesus name.

  35. 17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?

18 And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and thou hast followed Baalim.

We put ourselves into trouble when we don’t follow the commandments of the Lord.

  36. 1 And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.

2 And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.

Elijah’s faith and obedience is such a great testimony to us all. God spoke and Elijah obeyed. He did not allow his natural sight to make him loose sight of the promise of God. We can learn a lot from this chapter and his obedience and faith.

  37. 38 Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God.

  38. 30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.

31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the Lord came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:

Repairing the altar will bring again the fire. Notice that he too 12 stones representing the number of the tribes of israel. At that time the people of God, Israel were divided. So in order for the fure to fall the altar must be in place and the people unified again and then not even water will be able to stop the God sent revival fire.

  39. 2 Kings 18:35 Who of all the gods of these countries has been able to save his land from me? How then can the Lord deliver Jerusalem from my hand?”

The enemy is yelling at us in a high voice! Taunting us with the lives of the backsliden. The ones that once were holy and separated saints of God, that once were dedicated to God.

Are we gonna stand there and take is threats? It’s called distraction. If we keep focusing of the lost only and forget the new souls that God is bringing, we will let the devil win. God is dealing with the backsliders. We need to reach the fresh harvest that’s before us, trusting that God will bring the backsliders.

Three souls were baptized this weekend, TAKE THAT DEVIL!!!!!

    • 1 Kings 18:41 And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain.”

Our ears have to,be tuned to hear in the Spirit. Before the abundance of rain comes the sound of it. But when is it coming you say? Be ready! Rain

  40. “Why am I in this situation?!”

When we find ourselves stuck in a situation that seems to vex us, perhaps stuck with a difficult coworker or an unkind landlord, we find that there during that season of being stuck with them or under them, the Lord might just be working through us. Ahab was the troubler of Israel, and Elijah was stuck having to face him and his vengeful, wicked wife Jezebel. Ahab was the quick-tempered ruler who didn’t care about situations outside the control of his servants, but Obadiah had to work under him while walking on eggshells. Both Elijah and Obadiah had the opportunity to be used by God during this troubled season in Israel; Elijah to bear witness to God and “introduce Him” to Israel when they seemed to have all but forgotten Him, and Obadiah to preserve the Word and servants of God by using his authority under Ahab to do what was right in the eyes of God. Joseph was tossed about on his journey from the favored child to ruling in Pharaoh’s court, dealing with difficulty, injustices, and the failings of other individuals every step of the way. Yet at the end, the difficulty he endured allowed God to be glorified and God’s people to be preserved and directed to walk in greater sanctification.

  41. “All of the people saw it. Then they fell down flat with their faces toward the ground. They cried out, “The Lord is the one and only God! The Lord is the one and only God!””
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭18:39‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Lord you are the One True God there is none besides you.

  42. God proves himself strong by igniting the sacrifice. We need more incidents were faith is exercised by making a scene. God can change our world for the better.

  43. The people of Israel believe that they can simultaneously worship two gods- the pagan god Baal and the one true God -and receive a blessing from both. Once we walk away and repent from something or someone they become a past you don’t go playing around with. Playing with fire and making friends with the enemy makes us enemies of God. Long before, when Moses gave the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai, the Lord himself announced that he, a jealous God, would not tolerate the worship of other gods (Ex 20:3-4). We are to hate the appearance of evil not to tolerate, flirt with, or waste time on it. Yet the people will not choose him over their idols, and their two faced behavior is loathsome to him. Like the Israelites, believers today often serve both gods of this world and the Lord. Many things can steal worship from God: money, control, possessions and people. Whatever takes up most of our thoughts and energy maybe an object of worship. We have a choice to make, one that the Israelites failed to make so long ago on Mount Carmel. May our legacy be very different from theirs: “But the people said nothing” (vs 21). God is calling us to stay away from avoid the things that will cause sin and disunity.

  44. 33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.

34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.

35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
Due to the drought, I’m sure the people looked at Elijah like he was crazy to saturate the altar so many times with the precious water. We have to be willing to sacrifice what we hold precious to allow God to bless us with an abdunance of it in return.

  45. Honestly this is my favorite story in the OT. It’s not arrogance or pride, nor boastfulness that brought Elijah back in the presence of such a perverse and wretched king. It was faith, Big Faith. And I believe some Holy Ghost anger for how he had led God’s people in sin. God shows Him self in some amazing ways. When you are having some struggles in your life you just gotta rebuild that alter.saturate it with the tears of your prayers and the stand back and let GOD be GOD.let HIM consume you with HIS FIRE! What starts as a cloud soon becomes a torrential rain of blessing because you allowed GOD to BE.

  46. 38. Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
    39. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God. (KJV)

Wow! Thank You Jesus for your powerful works! Believe that the LORD is God, because the LORD is God!

  47. The Value of the Sacrifice

“And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed. And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood. And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time. And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭18:32-35‬ ‭KJV‬‬

At this point the sacrifice was not just the animal. The sacrifice now included the time and sweat involved in building the altar. It included the digging of the trench around the altar. It was also the wood, water, and then the animal. Think about the value of the water. Water was precious because they were in a long drought. The water of four barrels made a big difference! It could have been for drinking and cleaning. It could have been water for growing crops or making food. Instead the water was dumped out into the ground. But it wasn’t just 4 barrels, it was 12 because the four barrels were poured out 3 times. It is like the 12 disciples or the 12 tribes of Judah. The meaning of 12, which is considered a perfect number, is that it symbolizes God’s power and authority, as well as serving as a perfect governmental foundation. The water was poured out like the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost. It was God’s perfect government.

  48. 24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.

    HE THAT ANSWERETH
BY FIRE IS MY GOD!!! HALELUJAH!!!

  49. 36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.

The fire of the Lord fell and dried up the water that was in the trench. The people saw it and they fell on their faces because now that they see they can believe that the Lord is God. It took extreme measures for the people to believe that their is only one true God and not more than one. In the world today it’s not about one God it’s about what you get out of your God that will allow you to believe in him and it shouldn’t be that way. Miracles and wonders will always be there only thing is your cut short from them because he’s not who you believe in. Seek the Lord the one and only true God the maker of the heaven and the earth. Seek him.

  50. 21 Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, “How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!” But the people were completely silent.

We all have to decide whom to follow, the Lord or Satan. We all have heard of God, but not all have decided to follow him. At some point, we have to decide. The people who are unsure normally will remain silent, as they are undecided whom to follow. Its up to us to reach out and tell them about God!
