2 Kings 12

1 In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

3 But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

4 And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the Lord, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man’s heart to bring into the house of the Lord,

5 Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.

6 But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.

7 Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.

8 And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.

9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the Lord: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the Lord.

10 And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the Lord.

11 And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the Lord: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the Lord,

12 And to masons, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewed stone to repair the breaches of the house of the Lord, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.

13 Howbeit there were not made for the house of the Lord bowls of silver, snuffers, basons, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the Lord:

14 But they gave that to the workmen, and repaired therewith the house of the Lord.

15 Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.

16 The trespass money and sin money was not brought into the house of the Lord: it was the priests’.

17 Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it: and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.

18 And Jehoash king of Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the Lord, and in the king’s house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.

19 And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

20 And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Joash in the house of Millo, which goeth down to Silla.

21 For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

  1. Verse 3 KJV says “But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.” This made me think of the song that says:

    We’re going up to
    The high places
    We’re going up to
    The high places
    We’re going up to
    The high places
    To tear the devil’s
    Kingdom down

Verse 21 NLT says “The assassins were Jozacar[c] son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer—both trusted advisers. Joash was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. Then his son Amaziah became the next king.” The very ones Joash trusted were the ones who killed him. We must be very careful who we associate with and trust.

  2. 2. Throughout his lifetime Jehoash did what the LORD approved, just as Jehoiada the priest taught him. NET

Even though he was a king, he still listened and followed what he was taught.

No matter who we are, we must remain teachable and act upon what we know.

    James 1:22
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. KJV

  3. 2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

Even the king had to take instruction or imreality he chose to receive instruction from the priest . he did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord all his days. No matter what walk of life we find our self in we must always be open and receive instruction. This is the order God Himself has set. It is not a punishment but a reward to them who seek after God. The reward will be the end of our journey and if we keep all His instructions we cannot lose in the end. So receive instruction with a glad heart.

  4. 2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

3 But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

What are you still holding on to that is not of God???? Are you living for God but still have the high places???

Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

  5. 2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

3 But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
It’s important that when we make a step before God that we go all the way in our commitment. Jehoash did what was right but not fully and we can do the same thing if we are not careful

  6. 20 And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Joash in the house of Millo, which goeth down to Silla.
21 For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

    Why was he murdered???
Was it because he did what was right in the sight of the Lord???
Was it because he allowed the pagan rituals and sacrifices to continue???
Was it because he was lenient with the priests on the master of repairing the beaches of the Temple???

    SANTO!!!

  7. Always strive for the high places. God wants us to enjoy what he has provided. To obey him is a small token compared to what he has given and done for us.

  8. iLove to Grow in the Word
6But by the twenty-third year of Joash’s reign, the priests still had not repaired the Temple. 7So King Joash called for Jehoiada and the other priests and asked them, “Why haven’t you repaired the Temple?

Ministers, you are the priests of The Pentecostals of Fort Worth. Those whose names are on the wall are being summoned by the King of Kings to repair the temple of the Lord. We can look at this both spiritually and physically as well. The house of the Lord needs to be presentable no matter what the cost. We must pull weeds in flowerbeds and we must pull weeds from our heart as well.

  9. 10 When they saw that a large sum of money had accumulated in the chest, the king’s secretary and the chief priest would empty the chest and count the offerings. 11 They would give the money accounted for to the managers of The Temple project; they in turn would pay the carpenters, construction workers, 12 masons, stoneworkers, and the buyers of timber and quarried stone for the repair and renovation of The Temple of God – any expenses connected with fixing up The Temple. 13 But none of the money brought into The Temple of God was used for liturgical “extras” (silver chalices, candle snuffers, trumpets, various gold and silver vessels, etc.). 14 It was given to the workmen to pay for their repairing God’s Temple. 15 And no one even had to check on the men who handled the money given for the project – they were honest men.

Well, Well again we read that we are to give to the church our tithes and offering. So why wouldn’t we do what the bible says about giving? This includes your IFT, tithes, offering and whatever the church needs. People often thing the Pastor gets all the money well read it again by the time the church bills are paid and the church is taken care of is where the money goes. People now days get the mind set I am not going to give offerings and tithes cause I need it more, wake up you are robbing from God and where do robbers go?

  10. 2 Kings 12:4 (NLT)
“One day King Joash said to the priests, “Collect all the money brought as a sacred offering to the LORD’S Temple, whether it is a regular assessment, a payment of vows, or a voluntary gift.”

    Pay your Tithes
    Pay your Offerings
    Pay your Missions
    Pay your IFT
    Pay your Squares

    GIVE!

  11. 7 So King Joash called for Jehoiada and the other priests and asked them, “Why haven’t you repaired the Temple? Don’t use any more money for your own needs. From now on, it must all be spent on Temple repairs.” (NLT)

Reminds me of when elders and ministers tell us to skip a soda, skip a snack, or whatever, to make sure we keep our tithes, offerings, and commitments. It’s important we remember to step back and see who our actions edify.

  12. 2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

How to be Right in the Sight of the Lord?
    Obey your Pastor!

  13. 2 King 12 :9 Jehoiada the priest took a chest and bored a hole and it’s lid. He placed it beside the altar on the right side as one enters the temple of the Lord. The priest who guarded the entrance put into the chest all the money that was brought to the Temple of the Lord. Whenever they saw that there was a large amount of money in the chest the royal secretary and the high priest came counted the money that had been brought into the temple of the Lord and put it into bags. When the amount had been determined they gave the money to the man appointed to supervise the work of the Temple.

Now I know why we have a chest at the right hand of the altar in our church so that we can give to the Lord’s temple.

  14. GROW THE TREASURE CHEST

We are so BLESSED at The POFW that GOD has chosen to move us from the aged, decaying building at Silver Saddle to the brand new facility on Westpoint Blvd. In reflection on what it would require to make the Silver Saddle property look like what we have now.

The CHEST at the right of the platform is for that purpose. Assisting in paying the workers that worked so diligently to build our house of the LORD.

Please be in prayer about a sacrificial offering that we can bring on 9/18/16 to place in that chest. I am believing that it will have much money in it that we can pay the laborers and add an RV pad and a storage building. In JESUS name.

Bless you as we pray and prepare to give sacrificially to the house of the LORD.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  15. It was important to Jehoash that the house of the Lord be in good repair. It speaks highly of the Leadership and the saints alike when we take pride in the House of the Lord that God has allowed us to construct.

Families – teach your children to not only respect the house of the Lord with their actions, but to pick up after themselves. Pick up paper they see on the floor or in the parking lot. Teach them now while they are young to care for the things of the Lord and respect them. They must see it as their example in adults as well. Showing respect to the house of the Lord and for the things of the Lord speaks of our integrity as individuals.

  16. They trust johoash .
Johoash Rob from God he told the people that he would use the money to repaired the temple but instead he was using it for his own good used. The way i look at this i look at it like our tides and offering u said that u will give you offering umto the lord but instead you buy a cheeseburger or something for u house you said you would. But instead you’re using God’s money for your own good use the money is the lord .
When u do these things you are lying and stealing from God. And that the way i see 2kings12:4-16

  17. 2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

Here is the testimony of training up a child to live for God. Then, that child must continue to grow in God and develop his own relationship with him. So proud that POFW Sunday school has teachers that do this faithfully every week! It takes the whole team: Bus staff, teachers, youth leaders as well as the rest of the church to watch over our youth to see them continue to live for God!

  18. 2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

3 But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

  19. 2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

3 But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

Always do what’s right in the eyes of God! Not just sometimes on somethings or when it’s easy and makes you look good, but ALWAYS! As long as it’s in the will of the Lord great things will come from it maybe not right away but in His timing!

  20. “7 Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.”

Of course money may be a necessity , although when the money is good then we tend to want to spend it for our materialistic plessures. I pray that God gives us a humble heart to give when it comes to it, because always remember the sacrifice the king made at Calvary ….I encourage all young people to give to God daily … Whether if it’s just time for prayer, fasting, or reading scripture … Anything to please God to honor and glorify him for all he has given since Calvary .

  21. Verse 19
And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Not all things that we do have to be notice or publish so everyone know what we did and expect credit for it.

God sees everything, why expect others to see, let the thing we do be noticeable to God.

  22. 7 Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.

8 And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.

  23. 2 All his life Joash did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight because Jehoiada the priest instructed. NLT

Just like Jehoiada instructed Joash to do right in the eyes of the Lord we need to instruct the children of the church to do right in the eyes of the Lord so they can become great women and men of God!!

  24. now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.
We don’t always egnore our responsibilities or our promises and except others to be okay with it
We should always own up to our promises and fulfil our responsibilities.

  25. In this scripture, money was used to repair the breach, House of the Lord, and purchase much building supplies. The Church has repair needs……just like today! But, it appears not in building materials today! But building up the Body of Christ! We need Jesus’s help with his clay vessels or the house of the Holy Ghost (House of God)………

    “Be blessed”…………

  26. The Curse Of Money (A Awaking Of A Revival With A Relationship With Jesus)

7 Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.”

Malachi 3:10 – Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

1 Timothy 6:10 – For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

We as people can become so surrounded around money! Often times we go through life worried about the things of life! One major area that we often worry about is MONEY! We worry about gas for our cars/truck, money for food, etc. For some of us we have LOST our passion for the things of GOD outside of the four walls of the church! For some of us we have allowed debt and the the thought of money to overtake our relationship with God! I pray the LORD would break the poverty upon each individual and family! Poverty has not only affected churches and individuals but it has turned people to seek things in which are not of GOD. I pray the LORD would open up our hearts to getting back to a relationship with him! SEEK THE LORD for your finances and what ever else you may need! DONT put yourself in a situation that is NOT of GOD! Pray about things before you take the step yourself!

  27. 2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

Instruction from the man of God will keep you right in the sight of God.

  28. 2 Kings 12:2 (GNT with Deuterocanon)
2 Throughout his life he did what pleased the Lord, because Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

That’s a challenging statement. He did what pleases the Lord because of the priest. Although we need to respect those God has placed over us, and even though I respect and say that everyone needs a good Pastor.

The responsibility of our salvation does not fall solely upon his shoulders. The Bible says to save yourselves from this untoward generation. We cannot live for God by proxy.

The point is we need to take the word preached to us by our pastor and apply it to our lives and live for God not because of him but because we have listened to Pastor and the word and have a relationship with God.

  29. 13 Howbeit there were not made for the house of the Lord bowls of silver, snuffers, basons, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the Lord:

  30. When it was time for Joash to be crowned king at the age of seven, Jehoiada seized power of him and served as his mentor and advisor. Joash enjoyed Gods favor as long as he followed the godly direction of the priest. However, after Jehoida’s death, Joash fell under the influence of idolatrous officials of Judah (2Ch 24:17-22). When Jehoiada’s son, Zechariah, confronted the king about his disobedience to God, Joash had him killed. Zechariah’s dying words called for God to bring justice for the kings actions. Now the army of Aram has attacked Jerusalem. God allows this invasion because of Judah’s disobedience and the murder of Zechariah. Without God on his side, can do little against Hazael, and turns to temple’s treasures as a means to pay off his enemy. Trouble is his own advisors assassinated him while he was worried about a foreign enemy he was betrayed by the sort of people that lead him away from the priest Jehoiada’s guidance. Their is a great danger when you leave the covering of your man of God to take the advice of wicked friends.

  31. 1 In the seventh year of Jehu, Joash became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years. His mother’s name was Zibiah; she was from Beersheba. 2 Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the years Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 3 The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.

    Your doing good but…..

It reminds me of the letters to the church in the book of revelations. When God spoke to the church of the city, he would lift them up and tell them how good they were doing, but that there was something that he had against them.

When God said, However, meaning all this is good but….. I wonder if we make void all the outreach, all the bible studies, all the prayer and fasting, with a simple disobedience. Will all of our work and effort be in vain? Will all of the hard work and dedication be made void with a simple mistake.

    Those little foxes.

  32. “No accounting of this money was required from the construction supervisors, because they were honest and trustworthy men.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭12:15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Honesty and trust take you a long way. It opens the door for greater opportunities

  33. 4 And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the Lord, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man’s heart to bring into the house of the Lord, 5 Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.

The word of God (Judge) recorded what was to be done, for a reason. The Creator (Jesus) needs no funds; however he holds all (creation) accountable with what is done with them. Additionally tithing and offerings are not a suggestion, which one may debate today; however one will not debate one day. Dear God, help us that we would be wise stewards with what you bless us with. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  34. But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places. The king did what was right; whereas the people did not. They were able to choose how and what they would worship, which people still do today; unfortunately some are aware, while others are not. God help us to see and hear that we may knowingly do what is right, in Jesus name.

  35. First things first

Joash had his heart set on repairing the house of the Lord. Although he was denied several times he was persistent. We have a big service coming up that we should consider the heart of Joash. He made the house of the Lord take presidence over anything else. The difference is that our house is already beautifull and finished now we have to pay for it. I guess that’s the difference between our credit driven society and the old school
You get what you pay for society. Nevertheless we have a great place to worship, bow let’s put it first and pay for it.

  36. 2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

We all need to have a man of God in our lives that is willing to instruct us and show us the ways of the Lord. Yet, we must also have an open heart for conviction and correction from our man of God. I am reminded of a scripture in Proverbs 12:1 “Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.”

  37. Financial accountability.

It gets stuff done. Many corporations have to be audited. This holds them accountable for their finances. By doing so, it lowers the chance of fraud. Let us not defraud ourselves by not paying attention to what we do with our money.

  38. 9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the Lord: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the Lord.

Building/maintenance found….this is why we keep a chest at the right side on the altar/platform to give to the house of the Lord for repairs…all in order and scriptural. this is not the ift but for the continual needs of the house of the Lord. Lets not forget that we must respect and maintain the house of worship, the Lord’s house.

  39. 2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

3 But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

Even though we may be doing good things we must be diligent to remove everything from our lives that is not of God.

  40. 2 All his life Joash did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight because Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

Amen! Praise God…. ALL his life, I pray that my children will ALWAYS do Gods will. That they will see the big picture and not live in the pleasures of their own flesh. I pray that they see how important it is to be under the authority of a God fearing man of God. I want show my children and those around me that just because I obey my fathers voice (Pastor) don’t mean that I’m doing what he wants me to do but what God wants me to do. Don’t plant seeds of disobedience, a bad attitude, complaining to your children and those around you because many people have their eyes on us. Wondering how far we will go or when we will fail. I have my eyes set on the Lord and the great big vision and promise of how God wants to use us. Reach this region for His kingdom.

  41. 9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the Lord: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the Lord.

  42. King Hazael of Aram had oppressed Israel during the entire reign of King Jehoahaz. But the Lord was gracious and merciful to the people of Israel, and they were not totally destroyed. He pitied them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And to this day he still has not completely destroyed them or banished them from his presence.
    2 Kings13:23

The will always keep his promise

  43. “And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him. But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭12:2-3‬ ‭KJV

The king did well, but the high places were not taken down. This means that when the people were giving to God, they may have also been giving to their idols because he idols were still a large part of their community. If we can get to a point when we no longer give to the idols then there will never be a need for the box with the hole in the top because people would ha e been given.

  44. 6But by the twenty-third year of Joash’s reign, the priests still had not repaired the Temple. 7So King Joash called for Jehoiada and the other priests and asked them, “Why haven’t you repaired the Temple? Don’t use any more money for your own needs. From now on, it must all be spent on Temple repairs.

The priests were taking the money and spending it on themselves. It took 23 years for the King to finally speak up, and ask why the temple had not been repaired. Kinda tells me, he was someone that was lukewarm spiritually.
