2 Kings 17

1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years.

2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, but not as the kings of Israel that were before him.

3 Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents.

4 And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.

5 Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.

6 In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

7 For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,

8 And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.

9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the Lord their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

10 And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:

11 And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the Lord carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the Lord to anger:

12 For they served idols, whereof the Lord had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.

13 Yet the Lord testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

14 Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the Lord their God.

15 And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the Lord had charged them, that they should not do like them.

16 And they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.

17 And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.

18 Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

19 Also Judah kept not the commandments of the Lord their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

20 And the Lord rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

21 For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the Lord, and made them sin a great sin.

22 For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;

23 Until the Lord removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.

24 And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.

25 And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the Lord: therefore the Lord sent lions among them, which slew some of them.

26 Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.

27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.

28 Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the Lord.

29 Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.

30 And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,

31 And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.

32 So they feared the Lord, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.

33 They feared the Lord, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.

34 Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the Lord, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the Lord commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

35 With whom the Lord had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:

36 But the Lord, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.

37 And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.

38 And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.

39 But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.

40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.

41 So these nations feared the Lord, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

  1. 9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the Lord their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

The children of Isreal thought they were keeping their sinful ways secret. God still knew what they were doing and brought punishment.
There is not any thing we can hide from God.

  2. 7. This disaster came upon the people of Israel because they worshiped other gods. They sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them safely out of Egypt and had rescued them from the power of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.

    18. Because the LORD was very angry with Israel, he swept them away from his presence. Only the tribe of Judah remained in the land.

How long will He put up with it this time before He sweeps another nation from His Presence?

  3. 18 Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

19 Also Judah kept not the commandments of the Lord their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

20 And the Lord rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

We try not to think that God would reject people. This would not happen from such a loving and merciful God, right? What we don’t seem to understand is that the more we involve ourselves in sin, the more we separate ourselves from God. It’s sin that separates us from Him, the sin we abide in pushes him away. So he reaches time and time again, but if we stilled our necks and persist, our sin pushes us so far that we might feel completely abandoned by him but in reality it is ourselves that are pushing him away, getting further from him. Gods anger and wrath is not to you but towards the sin that is in you.

It’s never to late to return to God.

  4. 18 Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

Jesus!!!!! I pray that we will put our eyes on you and not serve other gods. gods that may not involve worshipping other gods but that we may put you Lord before ANYTHING. I pray that we will revolve our lives around the church and not church around our lives. Jesus is the only thing that truly matters the only one that is going to be left when everything vanishes. Don’t worship other gods and have the Lord all powerful and mighty remove us from His sight. Without Him we are NOTHING!!!!!!! Obedience, obedience, Obedience!!!

  5. 35 With whom the Lord had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:

36 But the Lord, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.

Remember where God has brought you from and the miracles he has done in your life! Some generations removed the people of Israel forgot what God had done for them and where he had brought them from. And they forgot his covenant that they had with God through King David. When we forgot what God has done for us, we start to turn to false idols and false gods. We start to let other things in our lives grab our attention instead of having Jesus being the center of our lives.

  6. FEAR THE LORD JESUS

Often people are afraid of the outcome of certain situations. People fear most, the peril of being taken advantage of by someone else. People fear how others will think of them or how they will respect them.

The WORD of the LORD is very clear on what our only fear should be.

    The LORD.

Fear of outcomes or people is temporal. Fear of the LORD is ETERNAL.

Clarity is given to us repeatedly throughout the WORD of GOD

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Idolatry is stealing Glory from GOD. Put away idols and TRUST in the LORD to FEAR GOD.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  7. 39 But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.

40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.

41 So these nations feared the Lord, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.
It’s so sad to see that the people of God did not fully make up their mind to serve God. What’s more depressing is that their children and their grandchildren followed in their footsteps. We must remember that what we do affects our children, and eventually our grandchildren and on and on from there. We must carefully consider everything we do in order to be a Godly example to our families.

  8. 35 For the Lord had made a covenant with the descendants of Jacob and commanded them: “Do not worship any other gods or bow before them or serve them or offer sacrifices to them.
36 But worship only the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt with great strength and a powerful arm. Bow down to him alone, and offer sacrifices only to him.
37 Be careful at all times to obey the decrees, regulations, instructions, and commands that he wrote for you. You must not worship other gods.
38 Do not forget the covenant I made with you, and do not worship other gods.
39 You must worship only the Lord your God. He is the one who will rescue you from all your enemies.” (NLT)

There is none more worthy like my God; He is God alone!

  9. 2 King 17:35 When the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites he commanded them do not worship any other gods or bow down to them serve them or sacrifice to them. But the Lord who brought you up out of Egypt with a mighty power and outstretch arm is the one you must worship. To him you shall bow down and to him offer sacrifices. You must always be careful to keep the decrees and regulations the laws and commands he wrote for you. Do not worship other gods. Rather worship the Lord your God it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.

  10. the people of Israel continue their evil things worshiping other gods secretly doing many things that was not pleasing to the lord it say in 2 kings 17:12 NLT that the lord specific and repeated warnings them . 13 say again and again the lord had sent prophets and seers to warn both Israel and judah turn from all your evil ways . Obey my commanded and decrees the entire law that i commanded your ancestors to obey and that i gave you through my servants the prophets . Could it be that the lord is using pastor watts to warn us . as you continue to read you see that they still went on to their evil ways . they rejected all the commands of the lord they continue to worshiped other gods . 18 because the lord was very angry with them with he Israel. he swept them away from his presence only the tribe of judah remained in the land god is warning us and he using other people to do it

  11. 2 Kings 17:9-12
    9) And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
    10) And they set them up images and groves in every high place, and under every green tree:
    11) And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger.
    12) For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.

Ps.44:20-21 says, “If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hand to a strange god; Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.”
Jer. 17:10 says, “But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives…” (NLT)

We serve a God that is OMNIPRESENT (he’s present eveywhere at the same time) and that is OMNISCIENT (he knows everything). Nothing is Secret to HIm. So, the next time you think you’re doing something in secret, remember, GOD KNOWS!! He’s watching, searching your heart, and examining you.

  12. iLove to Grow in the Word
“The people of Israel had also secretly done many things that were not pleasing to the LORD their God. They built pagan shrines for themselves in all their towns, from the smallest outpost to the largest walled city.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭17:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Wow, God knows what we do in secret as well as what we do on the hilltop. Many are in bondage because of what they do and say in their homes.

  13. “13 Yet the Lord testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.
14 Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the Lord their God.”

The importance of obedience is crucial. It is important to obey God’s guidance that is set in your life! It’s important that one stays consistent with obedience, because disobeying God’s direction can lead to a chain of disobedience that ultimately leads to ones self destruction! I pray that God uses US (the Pofw) to bring TRUE gospel to the lost so they can turn from their wicked ways! To obey God’s word and to live it everyday! I long for the day that the anointing falls so strong to where we have record breaking baptisms and Holy Ghost filled souls! It’s time to THRIVE in REVIVAL!! In Jesus Name!!!

  14. 13 Yet the Lord testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

God warned them he gave them a chance to turn away from those wicked things they were doing but they didn’t listen. God judgments has fallen on these people. How many times God has warned us to follow his commandments and live a righteous life but we dont? God help us to always follow your commandments!

  15. 38 And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.
39 But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.

Fear the Lord in all his ways. For they are higher and greater than ours. Trust in him and lean not unto your own understanding. And he will direct your path. But we must serve him first.

  16. “For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods, And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭17:7-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Feared orher gods and walked in their statues”.

When we lose focus on God we allow other things to become a priority and rule over us. Maybe it is family. Maybe it is our pursuit of education or our profession. Either way, these pursuits allow uneeded fear to take over our thoughts. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. If fear is taking over our mind, this should be a clue that we may need some re-alignment.

  17. vs-1-6
Israel now stripped of the fertile lands of Galilee and Gilead is ruled by Hoshea Hoshea decides to stop his regular payments of tribute to Assyna and tries to arange for help from Egypt. The foolish act brings an Assyrian army down on Israel. Samaria is besieged and finall captured and the remaining Isrelitesn are deportede.

  18. 13 Yet the Lord testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

Time and time again the Loving Father just seeks relationship. He says repent and come back to me, but men loved darkness and evil ways of sin.

  19. 41 So these nations feared the Lord, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

God wants us all to turn away from sin and follow
him, most importantly obey his commandments.

  20. We serve the one and only true God, Jesus is his name. There is no other god like unto our God. Whenever we need help, he is always there.

  21. 9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the Lord their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

The world around you may not know but God knows every sin we commit against His will. Our children, friends, and even spouse may not see us but God sees all things. You can’t hide anything from God we must stop desensitizing ourselves from this reality.

  22. 2 Kings 17:13-14 (GNT with Deuterocanon)
13 The Lord had sent his messengers and prophets to warn Israel and Judah: “Abandon your evil ways and obey my commands, which are contained in the Law I gave to your ancestors and which I handed on to you through my servants the prophets.” 14 But they would not obey; they were stubborn like their ancestors, who had not trusted in the Lord their God.

It was the very last straw. God sent prophet after prophet. He warned repeatedly. He even sent enemies to foreshadow what would happen if they repented. But the whole purpose in the tragic events was to try and turn the people back to God.

God is long-suffering but knows when he is being taken advantage of. He will not always strive with men but wants all to come to repentance.

The best advice is preventive maintenance. Ever live in a way that would merit having to walk this path. Walk yourself up before he wakes you up.

  23. 12 For they served idols, whereof the Lord had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.

Spitting in the LORD’S face wasn’t just a one time occurrence. This happened over the course of generations. Children were being taught to worship how and whatever they wanted and They paid the price. It’s says the LORD put them out of His sight. He was so angry He didn’t want to look at them. He had given them chance after chance to repent, but they spit in His face. The LORD is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is as much the God of the Old Testament as He is the New Testament. These days are no different than times back then. Children are being taught that you can curse God and spit in His face and He WILL let you get by. He loves us unconditionally, but He won’t put up with bad behavior. Just like in the Old Testament so many warnings will be given before we’ve reached the final straw.

With everything going on in society and todays world how long will it be until the LORD sweeps through? Remember we don’t know the day nor the hour in which JESUS shall return!

  25. 25 And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the Lord: therefore the Lord sent lions among them, which slew some of them.

Listen to God’s warnings and correction before your disobedience leads you to terrible consequences.

  26. “And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods. But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner. So these nations feared the Lord, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭17:38-41‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This reminds me very much of a he teaching on Sunday night. It is an if, then statement. The issue is that the children chose the negative if and then. Because they worshiped other gods/idols they had horrible consequences. God help us to make good choices.

  27. Dirty little Secrets

9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the Lord their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

Sin will lie to you and tell you that no one will know. The problem with that is that God is all knowing. As soon as you start to think that you could get away with something that should be a SIN ALARM. No one tons a bank in hopes to spend 20 years in prison. They think they are going to outsmart everyone and get away with all the money. But if we know God and his might how do we keep these dirty little secrets and expect God not to know about it?? That is how ignorant we become when we listen to the adversary. We are not getting by with anything. Yet we still do it??

  28. The people of Israel became exactly the same as the people of the land of Canaan that God pronounced judgement on during the time of Moses. Not even 800 years later, the find themselves back in captivity. God judges them as he did the Canaanites, and sent the Israelites into exile. This judgement would eventually purify the Israelites. After their exhale, idolatry would not be seen on as great of scale ever again.

  29. You’ve been warned… God doesn’t want you to worship anything/anyone else but Him. Even though we live in a generation that focuses on the mentality of “like father like son” we need to be more focused on ” like the Father, like the Son”…

  30. 9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the Lord their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

There isn’t anything secret from God. No warnings of judgement have affected them, they continue doing as the please and many do not believe in their own God.

  31. 40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner. 41 So these nations feared the Lord, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.
The word of Jesus (God) records they did it their way. One that thinks one can live anyway one wants is in denial of the word of God (Judge). Likewise one that sees no wrong with actions that God detests, is in for a sad wakeup call on judgement day. Dear God, forgive us and help us so that we may live in a manner that will allow us to hear ‘well done’. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  32. “Yet the Lord testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.” The Lord had warned them; however they refused to hear. It is unfortunate when we can see what happened to them, and yet some think it will be any different today. God help us too see and hear the warnings, in Jesus name.

  33. Sin is a vicious cycle. It will affect more than just yourself.
40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.
41 So these nations feared the Lord, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

  34. The Israelites foolishly believe that they are sinning in secret. Though they know well the commands of God and worship him, they also choose to simultaneously worship false idols “behind his back”. The Psalms say that the arrogant and the wicked who believe that their deeds go unseen by God (Ps 90:7-8, 94:7) and the long list of sinful acts performed by the Israelites confirms this belief (vs 7-17). The people are deceiving themselves if they believe that God does not see what they are doing. God is aware of the thoughts and occurrences in every life, down to the tiniest detail (Ps 139). No matter where we go, God is with us. This is both a warning and a comfort; God knows every sin we commit, yet he also intimately aware of our every need. Be careful little eyes what you see. Be careful little ears what you hear. Be careful little heart whom you trust. For the Father up above is looking down and up.

  35. Verses 7:12 CEV “All of this happened because the people of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, who had rescued them from Egypt, where they had been slaves. They worshiped foreign gods, followed the customs of the nations that the Lord had forced out of Israel, and were just as sinful as the Israelite kings. Even worse, the Israelites tried to hide their sins from the Lord their God. They built their own local shrines everywhere in Israel—from small towns to large, walled cities. They also built stone images of foreign gods and set up sacred poles[c] for the worship of Asherah on every hill and under every shady tree. They offered sacrifices at the shrines,[d] just as the foreign nations had done before the Lord forced them out of Israel. They did sinful things that made the Lord very angry. Even though the Lord had commanded the Israelites not to worship idols,[e] they did it anyway.” Exodus 20:3-4 AMP “You shall have no other gods before Me. “You shall not make for yourself any idol, or any likeness (form, manifestation) of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth [as an object to worship].”

  36. “”Do not forget the covenant I made with you. And remember, you must not worship other gods. Instead, worship me. I will save you from the powerful hand of all of your enemies. I am the Lord your God.” But the people wouldn’t listen. Instead, they were stubborn. They continued in their old practices. They worshiped the Lord. But at the same time, they served the statues of their gods. And to this very day their children and grandchildren continue to do what their people before them did.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭17:38-41‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

They feared the Lord but they still served their statues. Served in the Greek is enslave or in bondage. We must break the chains of bondage to worship in spirit and in truth.

  37. 13 Yet the Lord testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants

Heed the warnings of the Lord

18 Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

  38. 18 Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

    22 For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;

23 Until the Lord removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.
