2 Kings 21

1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hephzibah.

2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.

3 For he built up again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made a grove, as did Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.

4 And he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord said, In Jerusalem will I put my name.

5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.

6 And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.

7 And he set a graven image of the grove that he had made in the house, of which the Lord said to David, and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:

8 Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.

9 But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the children of Israel.

10 And the Lord spake by his servants the prophets, saying,

11 Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols:

12 Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle.

13 And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab: and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish, wiping it, and turning it upside down.

14 And I will forsake the remnant of mine inheritance, and deliver them into the hand of their enemies; and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies;

15 Because they have done that which was evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day.

16 Moreover Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; beside his sin wherewith he made Judah to sin, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the Lord.

17 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and all that he did, and his sin that he sinned, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

18 And Manasseh slept with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza: and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

19 Amon was twenty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Meshullemeth, the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah.

20 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh did.

21 And he walked in all the way that his father walked in, and served the idols that his father served, and worshipped them:

22 And he forsook the Lord God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of the Lord.

23 And the servants of Amon conspired against him, and slew the king in his own house.

24 And the people of the land slew all them that had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.

25 Now the rest of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

26 And he was buried in his sepulchre in the garden of Uzza: and Josiah his son reigned in his stead.

  1. Verses 7-9 AMP “He made a carved image of the [goddess] Asherah and set it up in the house (temple), of which the Lord said to David and to his son Solomon, “In this house and in Jerusalem [in the tribe of Judah], which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel, I will put My Name forever. “And I will not make the feet of Israel wander anymore from the land which I gave their fathers, if only they will be careful to act in accordance with everything that I have commanded them, and with all the law that My servant Moses commanded them.” But they did not listen; and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the sons (descendants) of Israel.” We can only think “What if” or “If only” Manasseh had chosen the right path and not seduce the people into more evil. You may not think people are watching you or following your lead; but, we cannot afford to be a “What if” or “If only”. Follow Him….Jesus!

  2. 9. But the Israelites kept their ears and hearts closed to the message of the Lord; and Manasseh caused them to live even more sinful lives than the wicked nations, whom the Eternal annihilated before them, had committed. The Voice

The Message of the Lord would have saved their nation, had they received it, just as it still changes hearts and lives today, but we must keep our ears and hearts open to it; He doesn’t force it on anyone.
What are our ears and hearts open to?

  3. 11 Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols:
12 Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle.

Praying for our leaders IS A MUST!!! Just like passing THE DOCTRINE TO OUR CHILDREN AND OUR CHILDREN’S CHILDREN CHILDREN IS A MUST!!! THEY MUST KNOW THE TRUTH, IF NOT HOW WILL THE GOSPEL BE PREACHED, WHO WILL PREACH IT!?! THE NEXT LEADERSHIP OF THIS NATION MAY HAVE OR MAY NOT HAVE STIPULATIONS THAT COULD OR COULD NOT BE GOOD FOR THE GENERATIONS TO COME!!!
IN JESUS NAME WE WILL HAVE LEADERSHIP THAT WILL NOT TRY TO HINDER POFW FOR THE NATIONS!!!

  4. 2 Kings 21:8-9 & 12 (MSG)
    8) Never again will I let my people Israel wander off from this land I gave to their ancestors. But here’s the condition: They must keep everything I’ve commanded in the instructions my servant Moses passed on to them.
    9) But the people didn’t listen. Manasseh led them off the beaten path into practices of evil even exceeding the evil of the pagan nations that God had earlier destroyed.
    12) This is my judgment, God’s verdict: I, the God of Israel, will visti catastrophe on Jerusalem and Judah, a doom so terrible that when people hear of it they’ll shake their heads in disbelief, saying, “I can’t believe it!”

    “But here’s the condition”
If you want to be taken care of and blessed by God – then you must LISTEN to the man of God as he instructs us in the word of God and OBEY it.
LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN – OBEY OBEY OBEY
For if you don’t, certain judgment of God will come upon you. “He that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin. – For the wages of sin is death.”

    LISTEN & OBEY!

  5. 21 And he walked in all the way that his father walked in, and served the idols that his father served, and worshipped them:

22 And he forsook the Lord God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of the Lord.

Let us continue to walk with and serve the our Lord Jesus and let us not follow and worship the ways of the world.

  6. 20 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh did.

21 And he walked in all the way that his father walked in, and served the idols that his father served, and worshipped them:
Influence, influence, influence! I continue to see a continuous thread of it throughout these chapters. It’s amazing how a father influences his son. Father’s we better be careful about what we do and how we love because someone is watching

  7. It’s worse on the other side.

9But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the children of Israel.

To lead a people to do worse than before. Wow. I don’t even want to imagine. When we sin it’s bad, but when we go back to it, it’s worse. The Bible even says that the demons are seven times more so. When we repent we must make sure that it’s whole hearted. We serve a great and greasious God, but even he will turn away from the wicked.

  8. UNCOVERED LEADERSHIP

22 And he forsook the Lord God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of the Lord.
23 And the servants of Amon conspired against him, and slew the king in his own house.

Motivation to learn the WORD of GOD and the burden to challenge the precious souls that GOD has entrusted me to lead to learn the WORD of GOD is revealed in these 2 verses.

Knowledge brings accountability. We are all accountable for what we know, this is what makes ignorance so dangerous. We must KNOW and OBEY the WORD of GOD.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

The judgement against rebellion and disobedience is revealed in the book of Hosea; an illustration is revealed in 2 Kings 21. When leaders reject the WORD of GOD and forsake following the LORD it leaves the leader UNCOVERED or UNPROTECTED.

Servants over time learn a leaders weakness and frailties. This happened to Amon, however he left the covering of the LORD and was unprotected.

I pray for every LEADER at The POFW to Study the WORD of GOD, that we would honor, respect and obey the WORD of GOD. That we would remain submitted to authority, spiritual and natural to remain COVERED and PROTECTED by the Promises of GOD.

  9. 1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hephzibah.

19 Amon was twenty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Meshullemeth, the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah.

20 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh did.

Wow ,one child made a king at twelve the other at twenty two years old yet they both did evil in he eyes of God. What were these mothers teaching them. Both of their mothers names are mentioned in these scriptures. What was the mother of these children setting before their children.
What had the fathers poured into them. Such a young age to be given such a high demand yet an honor to be a king. How sad that all they could reign with was graven images idols, and a life full of evil.
We have to be careful what we are setting before our children. What graven image, what idol are we not willing to lay aside to rear our families in the Kingdom of God. Be careful some things may not be classified as sin but can become an idol. God help me to stay alert and be wise about what I surround myself with lest I should cause one of my family members to seek after the things of the world and be evil in the sight of God. We cannot go back and undo the past but we can hangs the present to change the future in Jesus name.

  10. II Kings 21:9 But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the children of Israel.

II Chronicles 33:10 And the Lord spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken.

God sent repeated warnings then and he does now but no avail.
Be careful he you are influenced by

Proverbs 29:12 If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.

  11. which was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh did.
21 And he walked in all the way that his father walked in, and served the idols that his father served, and worshipped them:

Stop generational curses, we MUST lead by example!
Are you leading someone to Jesus? Or to death?

  12. 12 this is my judgment, God’s verdict: I, the God of Israel, will visit catastrophe on Jerusalem and Judah, a doom so terrible that when people hear of it they’ll shake their heads in disbelief, saying, ‘I can’t believe it!’ 13 “I’ll visit the fate of Samaria on Jerusalem, a rerun of Ahab’s doom. I’ll wipe out Jerusalem as you would wipe out a dish, wiping it out and turning it over to dry. 14 I’ll get rid of what’s left of my inheritance, dumping them on their enemies. If their enemies can salvage anything from them, they’re welcome to it. 15 They’ve been nothing but trouble to me from the day their ancestors left Egypt until now. They pushed me to my limit; I won’t put up with their evil any longer.” MSG

  13. iLove to Grow in the Word
“Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years. His mother was Hephzibah. He did what was evil in the LORD’s sight, following the detestable practices of the pagan nations that the LORD had driven from the land ahead of the Israelites.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭21:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Manasseh was the son of Hezakiah, so one would think that he would have been influenced to follow the righteous ways of his father. But as we have found out repeatedly that’s not always the case.

Here in this case, we find Manasseh is just about to become a teenager. One thing this tells us is that Manasseh was born after the miraculous healing of his father because the Lord had given Hezekiah an extra 15 years of life. Manasseh would grow up and eventually become one of the most wicked and cursed kings ever to lead Israel.

  14. 1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem.

We often wonder why we a people have so much trouble with the flesh and keeping the Lord on the throne of our hearts, when we read time and time again how that Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and then repented and lived for God, and then a few chapters later the king builds back up the high places and serves idols and the people follow.

Having our own relationship with the Lord, being filled with His spirit allows us to be led by the Spirit and His word clearly tells us that He will lead and guide us into all truth. We must know the Word and allow His convicting spirit to lead us on a daily basis so when we place another god before Him, His Spirit will deal with us.

  15. “11 Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols:
12 Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle.
13 And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab: and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish, wiping it, and turning it upside down.”

Never go against God’s will! One would be foolish to go against his word and will for their life. Understand that one should never test God’s anger because the outcome could be far more fearing than you could even imagine. I pray God’s guidance becomes one of our priorities while walking with him … That obedience sets in people’s hearts to follow with all humility the good Lord’s word. I pray the leaders of this nation do not ignore Gods voice …. Jesus please be the center!

  16. “…he built up again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed…”

At some point, children must choose their own way. We as parents can only take them so far towards the kingdom of God. We must then turn them lose to make their own decisions. This does not release us as parents to stop parenting. Of course, our words and teachings may not have the same weight as when the child was younger and lived under our roof. We as parents must still live the part that we know. We must be the pillar for lost children to see; when they want to know where the truth is.

  17. 1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hephzibah.

2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.

  18. 10-12 God, thoroughly fed up, sent word through his servants the prophets: “Because Manasseh king of Judah has committed these outrageous sins, eclipsing the sin-performance of the Amorites before him, setting new records in evil, using foul idols to debase Judah into a nation of sinners, this is my judgment, God’s verdict: I, the God of Israel, will visit catastrophe on Jerusalem and Judah, a doom so terrible that when people hear of it they’ll shake their heads in disbelief, saying, ‘I can’t believe it!’

  19. In this scripture shows the results of a rebellious spirit and the effect of evil/sin. But, also you can see see that you are to wise in your steps because your children are following you! Just like that old country song walk a little straighter daddy your leading me! God help us all walk straight and follow Christ Jesus!

    “Be blessed”……………….

  20. 1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem.

The people seem to willingly follow Manasseh in his evil doings, even after Hezekiah set the truth and right way before them for many years. Makes you wonder if they ever had their own relationship with God themselves. Bro Fielding used to always say “follow me as I follow Christ”. We can’t follow a man, we must follow the Lord and his word. Pastor wants us to know the word of God so we can be right with God and not just blindly follow every wind of doctrine-remember when the blind lead the blind, they both fall in the ditch. In every situation, we must compare it to God’s word and search out what He says. This is the confidence we have in our Pastor: he teaches the word, so we can follow him as he follows Christ.

  21. 9 But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the children of Israel.

  22. 9 But the people refused to listen, and Manasseh led them to do even more evil than the pagan nations that the Lord had destroyed when the people of Israel entered the land. (NLT)

We must listen to and obey the voice of God, not man; follow Him and His Word. This song popped into my head, I guess because so many today are choosing to ignore God and sin – “Jesus is the answer, for the world today. Above Him there’s no other, Jesus is the way.”

  23. 8 Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.

9 But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the children of Israel.

It is always important to listen to the voice of God, but when we slip up it is even more important that we open our ears and our hearts to Him to help direct us to the right path and if we choose not to listen we could end up in a much darker place than before. Lord help me to be more sensitive to your voice!

  24. 9 But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the children of Israel.

Obeying the voice of God is just as important as breathing, God help me to be more obedient by listening to your voice!

  25. 2 Kings 21:19-20 (KJV Strong’s)
19 Amon was twenty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Meshullemeth, the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. 20 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh did.

The names of these wicked people are contradictory to their lifestyles. Amon, the master craftsman was the son of Meshullemeth, friend. The daughter of Haruz, zealous, and the son of Manasseh, causing to forget.

Manasseh was on of the name’s of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was named thusly because Joseph said God had caused him to forget his toil in his father’s house.

Yet with names like these they still made wrong choices.

Just because we are called by HIS name doesn’t mean that we are guaranteed to make it to glory. Jesus placed his name upon us but it’s up to us to do something about it. We will either live in a way that shows reverence and respect to the name or we will live in a way that disgraces the name.

His name is on us. What are we going to do about it?

  26. “But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the children of Israel.” The word of Jesus (Judge) records who seduced them. The easiest way to tell if a leader/ruler/person of influence is right, is if they reverence Jesus (God) and obey his word. The opposite is also true a leader/ruler/person of influence that is wrong will openly state there is no difference in gods, immoral and corrupt actions are acceptable, and lying is acceptable. Dear God, awaken us while we are still free so that we would humble ourselves and pray, before you humble us. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  27. “Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hephzibah.” Manasseh may have ruled differently if he had been corrected, while he was young. Although our children may not rule a Nation at such a young age, it is very easy to tell if they rule their home. Teaching a child right from wrong while they are young, will usually make it easier when they become older. God grant us the wisdom to raise our children according to your word, in Jesus name.

  28. And I will forsake the remnant of mine inheritance, and deliver them into the hand of their enemies; and they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies;(2 Kings 21:14 KJV)

The whole land of Canaan was the Lord’s inheritance; ten tribes in it were already removed, only Judah with Benjamin was left, and the Lord threatens to forsake that remnant and deliver them into the hands of their enemies, and they shall become a prey and spoil to all their enemies; which was fulfilled in their captivity in Babylon.

  29. Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king and reigned fifty five years. I wondered why would God allow him to keep authority as king and worship false gods? He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah destroyed and followed after the ways of Ahab the evil king who worshiped Baal. He took his detestable practices into the temple of the Lord and in both courts built altars to false gods and even sacrificed his own son to gain evil powers.

Twice their is mention of the Name of God in vs 4&7 as being the established Sovereign Lord. The temples are his and those who defile them will be punished. In fact God will wipe them clean for all the innocent blood they shed in sinfully evil deeds. Their is only one God who will stand in the end and wipe the slate clean.

  30. 17 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and all that he did, and his sin that he sinned, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

What I received from this verse how easy one human can let his flash conquer him before his eyes fallen into sin. So much was at stake of his life and his generation ‘s to come. Simply by being disobedient and living unrighteousness .

  31. 11 Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols:

12 Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle.

When a leader refuses to submit to God and His will, not only does he/she end up with terrible consequences but his/her followers are negatively affected as well.

  32. 9 But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the children of Israel.

Wow…. All i can do is wonder what happened? We had a king that did really good followed and obeyed God and his son doea worst than any heathen nation? What went wrong? Did not Hezekiah spent time with his children teaching them the word of God. It says that he followed and did that which was right. I can only infer that he probably did teach the ways…but there is still a a choice to take. Nor the father for the children or the children for the father. Everyone is responsible for their own walk with God.

  33. The kings in this chapter are falling short. Instead of leading the people towards God, they are producing more sin and confusion.

You are either leading others towards God or you’re leading them away from Him…

  34. The new shrines were rebuilt and idols were worshiped spite of God’s commands. The fact that kings have power they don’t control over God the true king of Kings and Lord of Lords. Only our God has the power to destroy disgusting idols and get rid of all sinners including wiping out Jerusalem and Judah not exactly what God wanted to do but is so angry that he’ll put a stop to all idol worshipping since it’s gotten out of control.

    Lord I seek you.

  35. “He sacrificed his own son in the fire to another god. He practiced all kinds of evil magic. He got messages from those who had died. He talked to the spirits of the dead. He did many things that were evil in the sight of the Lord. He made him very angry.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭21:6‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

I pray that our spiritual children would never be sacrificed to the god of this world. I pray the church (the mother) would care for them by sharing the gospel, when spiritual sickness comes we would have sleepless nights nursing them back to health. Help them regain focus and when the world would try to captivate them, we will declare liberty over our lives.

“”The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has anointed me to tell the good news to poor people. He has sent me to announce freedom for prisoners. He has sent me so that the blind will see again. He wants me to free those who are beaten down.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭4:18‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

  36. It is important that as a Christian we do what is right. We can not follow what everybody else is doing. God has a way and that way is what we need to pattern our lives after.

  37. 8 Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them

If people could just do what they are told. People say that no man will tell me what to do but here all the promises of God hinge on doing what the man of God said. If you are going no where in your walk with God you might want to look at what the man of God has told you to do and make sure that your following it.

  38. “Moreover Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; beside his sin wherewith he made Judah to sin, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the Lord.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭21:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This sounds like some of the things that are happening in America today. The shedding of innocent blood is widespread. Not only are there people who kill others. But also there are many unborn children whose blood is shed every day. People are making decisions that change the world everyday. The only way things will get better is if we turn to the Lord and stop seeking other gods, including SELF.

  39. 6 And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.

  40. 20 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh did.

21 And he walked in all the way that his father walked in, and served the idols that his father served, and worshipped them:

    Monkey see monkey do

Like Dr. Hughes said, the drugs and alcohol and pornographymare not the real problem, broken families are the problem.

Children’s biggest influence growing up is there parents. They learn how to act and talk and walk like there parents. So we have an important job to keep, to ensure we keep the ways of the Lord so that our children will learn to keep them not just by being taught but by us being living examples.
