  1. and Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun,

4 And Tamar his daughter in law bore him Pharez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.

  2. This chapter made me think about family and our genealogy/descendants. Psalm 112:2 AMP says ” His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.” Psalm 145:4 NLT says “Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power.” Psalm 22:30-31 MSG says “Our children and their children will get in on this As the word is passed along from parent to child. Babies not yet conceived will hear the good news—that God does what he says.” Psalm 78:6 CEV says “so that each new generation would know his Law and tell it to the next.” Let’s go tell it!

  3. It is interesting to look back and see where wade came from and see how our family came to be what it is today. However, we have to learn from them, the good and the bad, but not relive their mistakes. We must look more to the future and not the past and live our lives according to God’s will and purpose.

  4. 4 And Tamar his daughter in law bore him Pharez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.

Judah had 2 sons with his daughter in law?!?!?!

If we are not careful, we can allow our praise to be just as MESSED UP. We must be submissive, obedient, repentant, and we must worship with our whole hearts.

    • and not with however little we have to just to get by. Remember Jesus not only created the heavens and the earth and the fullness there of, but He also laid his life down for us when we were unlovable.

  5. Like yesterday we continue to see generations of descendants. It’s important we teach the next and future generations how to righteously live for God.

Psalm 78:4-7 (NLT) We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders. For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them—even the children not yet born—and they in turn will teach their own children. So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.

  6. Ecclesiastes 1:4
One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. KJV
Generation’s come and go but our God is forever. .. time waits on no one but we must redeem the time and make sure we have made the most of our time here on earth.

  7. Proverbs 15:16 Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.

This verse reminds me of a song my grandfather used to sing all the time.

Little is much when God is in it!
    Labor not for wealth or fame;
There’s a crown, and you can win it,
If you go in Jesus’ name.

When the conflict here is ended
And our race on earth is run,
He will say, if we are faithful,
    “Welcome home, My child—well done!”

  8. iLove to Grow in the Word
Judah was tricked into having twins with his daughter in law when she dressed like a prostitute. The family line of king David (and eventually Jesus) came from that conception. She was righteous in what she did because Judah owed her children by law and he tried to refuse her. God used this child to keep the royal bloodline going.

  9. 1 Chronicles 2:3-4
    3) The sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the LORD; and he slew him.
    4) And Tamar his daughter in law bare him Pharez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.

Hebrews 7:14, “For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.”

  10. 1 Chronicles 2:3-4
    3) The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the LORD; and he slew him.
    4) And Tamar his daughter in law bare him Pharez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.

Hebrews 7:14 say, “For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.”

  11. 1 Chronicles 2:3-4

  12. It is important to know where you came from. There are family blessing and curses. If you don’t know know where you came from last, how then do you know where you are going?
I am a child of God and I am going to heaven.

  13. The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the Lord; and he slew him.

Are we creating a good sense of praise to the Lord or an evil fake praise???? Not only what we say we are praising God but how we act and present yourself unto Him and others. You want healing praise God, you want a miracle praise God, you want the victory praise God…it’s all about knowing and believing there is only one God. Let our tongue bring only praises unto God and NOT curses. I will praise you Lord for the rest of my life.

Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you. Exodus 23:25

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. ROMANS 15:7

Because your love is better than life,
    my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands. Psalm 63:3-4

  14. 23 And he took Geshur, and Aram, with the towns of Jair, from them, with Kenath, and the towns thereof, even threescore cities. All these belonged to the sons of Machir the father of Gilead.

  15. “Judah had three sons from Bathshua, a Canaanite woman. Their names were Er, Onan, and Shelah. But the LORD saw that the oldest son, Er, was a wicked man, so he killed him. Later Judah had twin sons from Tamar, his widowed daughter-in-law. Their names were Perez and Zerah. So Judah had five sons in all.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭2:3-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The wickedness of Er and the selfishness of Onan cause the Lord to take their lives. Fear gripped the heart of Juah and he lied to Tamar. He feared that Shelah would die with his other sons. Judah may have thought he was controlling the situation but because of fear the situation controlled him.

In the spiritual aspect, we cannot allow fear to grip the heart of our praise. You will end up in a situation where you have no control. The situation will control you. It’s through our praise that we allow God to fight on our behalf.

“About three months later, Judah was told, “Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has acted like a prostitute. And now, because of this, she’s pregnant.” “Bring her out, and let her be burned!” Judah demanded. But as they were taking her out to kill her, she sent this message to her father-in-law: “The man who owns these things made me pregnant. Look closely. Whose seal and cord and walking stick are these?” Judah recognized them immediately and said, “She is more righteous than I am, because I didn’t arrange for her to marry my son Shelah.” And Judah never slept with Tamar again.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭38:24-26‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  16. “I will confirm my covenant with you and your descendants after you, from generation to generation. This is the everlasting covenant: I will always be your God and the God of your descendants after you.
    Genesis 17:7 NLT

  17. Proverbs 15
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

There are many wise words in today’s proverb, but after hearing Dr. Hughes over the weekend and then hearing Bro Morgan’s’ message last night, these 2 verves stood out.

  18. “3 The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the Lord; and he slew him.”

    PURPOSE

In life we all have a purpose! When your born with a purpose to be used FOR God, but then substitute that calling for an unclean wicked life … It’s very simple to understand that it ultimately leads to death! You don’t need a degree to understand that, all you need is humility to actually live a life according to the good Lord’s will. Since the moment we take our first breath God gives us a purpose! A purpose that won’t find itself, a purpose that God has trusted in you to full-fill it!

  19. PAINFUL MEMORIES

7 And the sons of Carmi; Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the thing accursed.

The geneology lists seem to flow uninterrupted, names mentioned and then the next one. However when Achar was mentioned there was an asterisk by his name. Apparently the deadly curse of this man had pained them for generations. GOD was so disappointed with his actions that he made an eternal note by his name, that he was a transgressor.

Achar is called Achan in Joshua 7

Joshua 7:1 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.

HERE IS WHAT CAUSED GOD TO MARK ANCHAR ETERNALLY

Joshua 7:19 And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.
20 And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.
23 And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.
24 And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.
25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
26 And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.

Achan was more interested in himself than he was the people of GOD. It cost Israel men in battle. It cost Achar the life of his family. Selfish acts of disobedience always affect more people than you can imagine and leave PAINFUL MEMORIES.

Most followers of JESUS hope to leave PRECIOUS MEMORIES, but we learn here through transgressing the accursed thing we will leave PAINFUL MEMORIES.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  20. 7 And the sons of Carmi; Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the thing accursed.

We all have that one family member. In my family it was me! The trouble maker, the rebellious one, the one that mother shed the most tears for, nothing to be proud off; but God!!!! Yes, but God left His 99 to look for me! The black sheep, the trouble maker! God can turn you from the black sheep to a clean white as snow!! Praise you Jesus!! You see they didn’t just left out the trouble maker of the family they still listed it. You know why I think is because he was still worth saving!!!! We can’t keep them out no way, we need to love them, guide them, teach them and the best part we don’t even have to utter a word God can prick their hard and pull their spirit by our loving actions towards them!!! Thank you Jesus for it was your Crimson Blood that wash me white and snow!!!

  21. In all the genealogy listed today we can pick out a few things: Judah had a son who did evil in the sight of the Lord, and Judah put him to death…..

Later in the list of family trees we find Jessie the father of David……

I’m thankful that when God looked at the genealogy in my family He didn’t give up when there were several that didn’t live for Him, but Helooked way down the years, and chose me as a little 8 year old girl to invest the Holy Ghost into.

  22. We can read this chapter and feel overwhelmed by all the names that are listed here as the descendants of Israel… But God had promised his father Abraham that He would make him more numerous than all the stars in the sky. This list could go on a whole lot further. This is just more proof that God keeps His promises.

  23. Next time you feel like you don’t matter just remember there is a God who knows you by name! He knows every hair on your head and catches your every tear.

“The LORD replied to Moses, “I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.””
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭33:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  24. 3 The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the Lord; and he slew him.

    Live right before the Lord.

  25. The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the Lord; and he slew him.

The family tree’s listed have their own history. Some were evil and some were obedient. In the case of Er God had no mercy for him and the Lord killed him.

God will not stand for evil and neither should we. We have choices God wants us to live a righteous life. Scripture says God loves us for he gave his life for us and gave us commandments that will keep us from sin and to love him with all our heart and soul to follow him and honor his great name.

Lord thank you for giving your life for me and for loving me when I’m not loveable. Thank you for mercy and grace. Lord lead me and guide me to do your will and not mine. I want to serve you and honor your holy name.

  26. Sometimes the right choice hurt the flesh because it doesn’t always feels good to the flesh. We have to denied the flesh and say yes to my lord not only for our sake but for this generation and the next generations to come!!

  27. Since the property an Israelite family owns in the promised land is believed to be a gift from God, it is vital that the property remains in the family. Upon the fathers death, the property is divided among all the sons with a double portion going to the oldest who then cares for his mother and unmarried sisters. However, when a married couple have no sons, God gives permission for the land to be given to his daughters (Nu 27:1-8). Another option for keeping the inheritance within the family is for the father to adopt one of his servants. Abraham thought about doing this with his servant Eliezer (Gen 15:2-3). It seems that Sheshan wants a double assurance that his property will remain within his family. Therefore, he marries his daughter to his servant. Inheritance is important to were we come from and who we belong to. When we are adopted into being children of Jesus we become grafted into his lineage a royal priesthood.

  28. 1 Chronicles 2:7 (NLT)
7 The son of Carmi (a descendant of Zimri) was Achan, who brought disaster on Israel by taking plunder that had been set apart for the Lord.

Zerah the son of Judah was born of Tamar. She was the woman whom Judah ignored. She tricked Judah into having children with her deceitfully. Zerah’s son Zimri had a boy named Carmi. Carmi was the father of Achan who brought disaster on Israel by stealing the wedge of gold, the silver, and a Babylonian garment.

The other son born of Judah and Tamar was Perez. 12 generations later David was born who would be King of Israel. Not only that but Jesus Christ is from the lineage of David.

Two brothers from the same dysfunctional family. One was the ancestor of the Messiah while the other birthed a man who would cost hundreds of lives at the battle of Ai.

We choose our destiny. We can let our past define us or trail blaze into a better tomorrow. Both brothers were born of Judah. One’s family effected eternity and the whole earth. The other fostered a great great great grandchild that would be stoned with the earth.

Let God define us and not the challenges of life.

  29. If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself; but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding. Fear of the Lord teaches wisdom; humility precedes honor.
    Proverbs 15:32‭-‬33 NLT

  30. “These are the sons of”. The word of God (Jesus) proves there are records kept. Knowing this should therefore cause one too give thought to one’s tomorrow. Dear God, open our eyes too self so that our name might be recorded on the list of “enter thou into the joy of thy lord”. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  31. “And the name of”. All can see that there were many names, yet there few titles. Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are all titles that are important; however the name is what is truly, and obviously important. God let us not become caught up in a title, in Jesus name.

  32. One bad nephew

Ozem the sixth, David the seventh:

16 Whose sisters were Zeruiah, and Abigail. And the sons of Zeruiah; Abishai, and Joab, and Asahel, three.

I have never seen this that Joab was David’s nephew. That would explain a lot of David’s patience with Joab, and relationship. Joan got away with a lot more than what others did. It pays to be part of the family.

  33. Tonight I had the privallage of being in a revival service and this exact scripture was preached! The LORD called us back to prayer but to not forget where we have came from! POFW and church family don’t forget where the LORD pulled you out of when you were filled with the Holy Ghost and baptized in Jesus Name. If you haven’t received the Holy Ghost yet just know your time is near as you draw closer to him, hes going to fill you with the Holy Ghost! Remembering the past is a great thing, not a bad! It shows us the level of growth and maturity to where the LORD has brought us from. I’m thankful I’m saved! I’m thankful I’m a part of the church of the 21st century! We must be thankful for what we have and we must be willing to PRAY for our future! Not the past! We must get back to personal prayers that are dangerous! Seek me oh LORD! Cleanse me oh LORD! Many times we come to GOD with prayers of bless me but sometimes God is wanting to shift your prayer life to pray for others in leadership! Sometimes God will use the body of the church to pray with you in a situation! Don’t give up! Remember if it had not been for JESUS and the price he paid, you would not know the pathway to salvation!

  34. Achan son of Carmi, one of Zerah’s descendants, brought disaster on the people of Israel by keeping loot that had been devoted to God.
    1 Chronicles 2:7 GNTD
    http://bible.com/69/1ch.2.7.GNTD

When we keep or take things that are specifically for God or belong to Him, we will ultimately bring disaster to us our home and those closes to us.

  35. David’s sisters, Zeruiah and Abigail, are mentioned here in a long list of men’s names. Perhaps there sons play big roles in the formation of a reunited Israel. Zeruiahs sons, Joab, exhibits courage and becomes commander of David’s army (1Ch 11:6). Amasa, Abigail’s son is appointed commander in the place if his cousin Joab (2 Sa 17:25). Their rivalry ends in tragedy (2Sa 20:9-10). Although God gives each woman the responsibility for her own contribution to his work here on earth, she also has the privilege of influencing the children in her life. We have to opportunity of impacting the lives of those around us that need to here the Gospel and revelation of salvation through Jesus.

  36. 1 Chronicles 2:3 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan and Shelah. These three were born to him by a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua. Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death.

If the writer writing the genealogy make a note on your name, it was enough to write about. To mention you as worthy of immediate death should warm k

Let our testimony be of one of good reproach.

  37. 42 Now the sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel were, Mesha his firstborn, which was the father of Ziph; and the sons of Mareshah the father of Hebron.

43 And the sons of Hebron; Korah, and Tappuah, and Rekem, and Shema.
    The birth of a nation

  38. I might not be able to have a generation after me, just to think of all my spiritual generation I can have thru bus ministry.
Sometimes we received and answer when we start thinking in the super natural mind.

  39. 3 The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the Lord; and he slew him.

What we do now does matter because what we do changes the way people look at us and it changes the way God will judge us when that time has come!
