1 Chronicles 5

1 Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but forasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

2 For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph’s:)

3 The sons, I say, of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were, Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

4 The sons of Joel; Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,

5 Micah his son, Reaia his son, Baal his son,

6 Beerah his son, whom Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria carried away captive: he was prince of the Reubenites.

7 And his brethren by their families, when the genealogy of their generations was reckoned, were the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah,

8 And Bela the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel, who dwelt in Aroer, even unto Nebo and Baalmeon:

9 And eastward he inhabited unto the entering in of the wilderness from the river Euphrates: because their cattle were multiplied in the land of Gilead.

10 And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead.

11 And the children of Gad dwelt over against them, in the land of Bashan unto Salcah:

12 Joel the chief, and Shapham the next, and Jaanai, and Shaphat in Bashan.

13 And their brethren of the house of their fathers were, Michael, and Meshullam, and Sheba, and Jorai, and Jachan, and Zia, and Heber, seven.

14 These are the children of Abihail the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz;

15 Ahi the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, chief of the house of their fathers.

16 And they dwelt in Gilead in Bashan, and in her towns, and in all the suburbs of Sharon, upon their borders.

17 All these were reckoned by genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

18 The sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that went out to the war.

19 And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab.

20 And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

21 And they took away their cattle; of their camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred and fifty thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of men an hundred thousand.

22 For there fell down many slain, because the war was of God. And they dwelt in their steads until the captivity.

23 And the children of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land: they increased from Bashan unto Baalhermon and Senir, and unto mount Hermon.

24 And these were the heads of the house of their fathers, even Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valour, famous men, and heads of the house of their fathers.

25 And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.

26 And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.

    FAVORITE VERSE:

22 For there fell down many slain, BECAUSE THE WAR WAS OF GOD. And they dwelt in their steads until the captivity.

    God is fighting for US!!!!
When we put our trust in Him, no matter the circumstances we are facing He will Deliver us.

    • yes god is fighting for us he is push back the darkness and light up the kingdom you are so right we must put our trust in god no matter how bad our times can be we need to know that god is right beside us fight for us

  2. Knowing God and His power.

    I love you JESUS.
I love this passage today because its JESUS’s word. I respect His word and I understand that He always comes through.

  3. 20 They cried out to God during the battle, and he answered their prayer because they trusted in him. So the Hagrites and all their allies were defeated.

25 But these tribes were unfaithful to the God of their ancestors. They worshiped the gods of the nations that God had destroyed. 26 So the God of Israel caused King Pul of Assyria (also known as Tiglath-pileser) to invade the land and take away the people of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh as captives. The Assyrians exiled them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the Gozan River, where they remain to this day. (NLT)

Just as easily and quickly God is able to bless us with victory, He is able to remove it. These tribes lost their victory and were taken captive because they were unfaithful. If we want God to be faithful to us, especially in times of need like gaining victory, we must be faithful to Him.

  4. 20. They received divine help in fighting them, and the Hagrites and all their allies were handed over to them. They cried out to God during the battle; he responded to their prayers because they trusted in him. NET

When the enemy comes against us and we lack faith, we are showing more confidence in our enemy than in our God!
To be victorious, we must put our trust in God, not in ourselves or the enemy.

  5. 1 Chronicles 5:18-20 (NLT)
    18) There were 44,760 capable warriors in the armies of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. They were all skilled in combat and armed with shields, swords, and bows.
    19) They waged war against the Hagrites, the Jeturites, the Naphishites, and the Nodabites.
    20) They cried out to God during the battle, and he answered their prayer because they trusted in him.

These warriors were skilled in combat and were armed with shields, swords, and bows. Yet during the battle, they cried out to God, and he answered their prayer because they trusted in Him.

Eph. 3:5 says, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
No matter how skilled and armed these men were, in the battle, they leaned not on their own understanding, but they cried out and TRUSTED in God who could deliver them.

When we put our TRUST in GOD, He will help us!

  6. JUDAH PREVAILED

2 For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph’s:)

Life in this world is challenging. Managing responsibilities, emotions, temptations and spiritual development. Being burdened under a heavy load could slow us down, spiritually, emotionally and even physically.

Regardless the need or situation we learn a principal from verse 2. JUDAH (Praise) PREVAILED (overcame). Regardless of what LIFE may present through temptation, challenges or opposition we are empowered and equipped to overcome and live victorious in Christ JESUS through our PRAISE to him.

I encourage everyone to be FULLY PERSUADED today to GROW your PRAISE to JESUS and be equipped to PREVAIL in every situation by offering PRAISE to GOD.

Thank you JESUS for mercy, kindness and grace.

They cried to God in the battle. And He was interested because they out their trust in Him. Not in man,not in possessions, not in a relationship, not in entertainment, not even in family but Trust in God. When we are totally dependent upon GID and trust Him the battle can only be victorious! We win and God gets all the glory and the enemy is defeated!

  8. 20. They received divine help in fighting them, and the Hagrites and all their allies were handed over to them. They cried out to God during the battle; he responded to their prayers because they trusted in him. NET
God is seeking people that will obey and trust in him even to the point of going to war. He’s looking for men and women not afraid or ashamed to obey and fulfill His purpose. When we do that God will keep us and protect us because we have trusted in Him and He will deliver us from our enemies.

  9. iLove to Grow in the Word

1 Chronicles 5:1 NLT The oldest son of Israel was Reuben. But since he dishonored his father by sleeping with one of his father’s concubines, his birthright was given to the sons of his brother Joseph. For this reason, Reuben is not listed in the genealogical records as the firstborn son.

Don’t lose your birthright by doing something dumb. The whole tribe of Reuben was left out of the blessings for the lust of one man. Make your family name honored and respected instead of despised and rejected.

  10. 20 And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

In your battles in life, cry out to God and he will hear your cry and deliver you from your situation!

  11. 2 For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph’s:)

Going back to Jacob and his wives. Leah and Rebekah. Who did he truly love? It wasn’t Leah this is why Joseph was the original owner of the birthright. Because Jacob loved Rebekah first.
We are God’s first love. He created us in his image. We are of him because he breathed the breath of life into us. We have the right to the birthright.

  12. 1 Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but forasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

2 For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph’s:)

Be very careful with God’s commandments!!! Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
This is the only commandment that has a promise attached. Never, ever speak ill of your father or mother or dishonor them in any way. I have just recently learn that they are by far more valuable that we think when we are young.

AND JUDAH PREVAIL….. Prevail is a verb which implies action needs to be taken! Now we all know that Judah means PRAISE! With that said here is the definition of prevail–prove more powerful than opposing forces; be victorious.

  13. Proverbs 18:11 The rich think their wealth protects them; they imagine themselves safe behind it.

How foolish people can be sometimes. I can speak from experience. I once stood behind my riches and thought they would protect me and keep me safe from poverty and the trials of life. My trust was betrayed. There is only one protector in this world; Jesus.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

  14. 1 Chronicles 5:18 The Reubenites the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 men ready for military service able bodied men who could use a bow and who were trained for bsttle. They waged war against the Hagrites Jeter Naphish and Nodab. They Were Helped IN Fighting THE And God delivered the Hagrites and all their allies into their hands because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers because they trusted in him.

  15. 1 Chronicles 5:24-25 (NLT)
24 These were the leaders of their clans: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel. These men had a great reputation as mighty warriors and leaders of their clans.
25 But these tribes were unfaithful to the God of their ancestors. They worshiped the gods of the nations that God had destroyed.

One of the gnostic memorable pieces of advice I have ever received from Pastor is don’t forget what got you here.

When we experience growth or promotion in the kingdom we are sometimes tempted to think we have arrived. We occasionally relax and forget what brought us there in the first place.

Just like these warriors we can let our strength or success get to our head and forget about the God who made this possible.

Don’t forget what got you there. Continue to read, study, pray, outreach, and serve. God is a God of adding to.

  16. 20 And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

Completely trust in the Lord by placing your life in His hands and he will fight your battles!!

  17. 20 They cried out to God during the battle, and he answered their prayer because they trusted in him. So the Hagrites and all their allies were defeated.

The Lord hears our cries! He is faithful and true to his word! The devil is defeated and I got the victory! Hallelujah!

  18. Sin will lead you down a dark road. It will even deceive you and make you believe there is nothing wrong. The word of God will bring things to light for you. It will show you what truth is.

  19. “And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.” The word of God (Judge) identified why they fell, and what the consequences were. One that will declare either with words or with actions that all gods are the same is a deceiver. Dear God, expose and remove deception, as we are one Nation under you (Jesus). God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  20. “And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.” They were triumphant because they cried unto the Lord, and because they trusted him. The Lord does not change; therefore we can also have victory today, if we will humble ourselves, cry out and trust the Lord. God help us comprehend so that we would also cry out to you, in Jesus name.

  21. 26 And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.

God is in control of everything even your enemies and He can make them do whatever He pleases. Thus we should take into cosideration the words written on proverbs 16 verse 7 that says when a man’s ways please the Lord He maketh even his enemies be at peace with him.

  22. 18 The sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that went out to the war.
It’s important to have a skill because skills are needed in the kingdom of God. It’s gives us another avenue to praise God with.

  23. Tiglath-Pileser III (745-727) revitalized the empire with the reorganization of military and bureaucracy of the government. He carried out extensive reforms in the military, reasserted centralized control over the empire, and subjugated Babylon. Some scholars believe the Neo-Assyrian Empire starts here. Thus, the Assyrian Empire began to take shape between 745-705 BCE. This was not only due to a renewed military that became the most effective military force up to that time and a model for future armies organization, tactics, training, and efficiency but also due to new administrative structures that tightened political and fiscal control. His campaign regained lost Syrian territories and continued through Syria and Palestine down to Egypt and as Duane Garrett notes, received tribute from Damascus, Byblos, Tyre, and Samaria (cf. 2Ch 28:19–21). When Damascus and Samaria rebelled, Tiglath-Pileser quelled the uprising, making them vassal states (cf. 2Ki 15:30). His primary method for controlling the nations he subjugated was mass deportation and the re-settlement of conquered peoples.

  24. Verse 20 AMP “They were given help against them, and the Hagrites were handed over to them, and all who were allied with them; for they cried out to God [for help] in the battle; and He granted their entreaty because they relied on and trusted in Him.” Same verse MSG “God helped them as they fought. God handed the Hagrites and all their allies over to them, because they cried out to him during the battle. God answered their prayers because they trusted him.”

Psalm 18:6 NLT says “But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.”

  25. Vs 22: God assists his battle in battle is says because they trusted in Him, yet it seems when they prosper, the reject God and worship the gods of the heathen they drove out. So God allows them to be taken captive as he warned them he would do. Do we forget all about God once we are blessed? Or do we continue serving Him and keep him first in our lives. I choose to serve Him before, during and after the blessings flow.

  26. 1 Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but forasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

His birthright was given to someone else, because he deli fed his father’s bed.

I don’t want it said of my walk with God that I prostituted the truth and my inheritance in the Kingdom of God be given to someone else.

  27. 1 Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but forasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

2 For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph’s:)

  28. 24 And these were the heads of the house of their fathers, even Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valour, famous men, and heads of the house of their fathers.

25 And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.

It doesn’t matter who you are, or who your parents are, or what you’ve done in the Kingdom. If you don’t keep yourself right with God you WILL fall, as will anyone that follows you.

  29. 23 And the children of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land: they increased from Bashan unto Baalhermon and Senir, and unto mount Hermon.

God is serious about his people you can’t hide sin. and get away with it.

  30. 20 And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

When we call on God we need to be patient and know that he will answer our prayers! so we need to just sit back and trust in God.

  31. The Rubenites, the Gadites and the Half tribe of Manasseh came together in until to wage war against Hagrites, Jetur , Naphish and Nodab. They were victorious because they prayed and cried out to the Lord. They trusted in God and he did exceeding above just victory but gave them plunder and dominion over that land until the day they were exiled.

  32. “God helped his people fight against the Hagrites and all who were helping them. He handed all of those enemies over to his people. That’s because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭5:20‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

If God be for you who can stand against you.

  33. “Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭5:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sometimes the things that we think that we get no matter what, or we deserve, are taken from us. Usually it is because of our own selfishness that causes us to lose our promise. If we keep our eyes on serving and God then we will be less likely to seek after our own selfish lusts which will help us keep our promise.
