1 Chronicles 11

1 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

2 And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the Lord thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.

3 Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the Lord; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.

4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.

5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.

6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.

7 And David dwelt in the castle; therefore they called it the city of David.

8 And he built the city round about, even from Millo round about: and Joab repaired the rest of the city.

9 So David waxed greater and greater: for the Lord of hosts was with him.

10 These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.

11 And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam, an Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time.

12 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties.

13 He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.

14 And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the Lord saved them by a great deliverance.

15 Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

16 And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines’ garrison was then at Bethlehem.

17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!

18 And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the Lord.

19 And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.

20 And Abishai the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three: for lifting up his spear against three hundred, he slew them, and had a name among the three.

21 Of the three, he was more honourable than the two; for he was their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first three.

22 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts; he slew two lionlike men of Moab: also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day.

23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.

24 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three mighties.

25 Behold, he was honourable among the thirty, but attained not to the first three: and David set him over his guard.

26 Also the valiant men of the armies were, Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

27 Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,

28 Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Antothite,

29 Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,

30 Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite,

31 Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah, that pertained to the children of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite,

32 Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite,

33 Azmaveth the Baharumite, Eliahba the Shaalbonite,

34 The sons of Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shage the Hararite,

35 Ahiam the son of Sacar the Hararite, Eliphal the son of Ur,

36 Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite,

37 Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the son of Ezbai,

38 Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Haggeri,

39 Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite, the armourbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah,

40 Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite,

41 Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai,

42 Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite, a captain of the Reubenites, and thirty with him,

43 Hanan the son of Maachah, and Joshaphat the Mithnite,

44 Uzzia the Ashterathite, Shama and Jehiel the sons of Hothan the Aroerite,

45 Jediael the son of Shimri, and Joha his brother, the Tizite,

46 Eliel the Mahavite, and Jeribai, and Joshaviah, the sons of Elnaam, and Ithmah the Moabite,

47 Eliel, and Obed, and Jasiel the Mesobaite.

  1. 13 He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.

14 And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the Lord saved them by a great deliverance.

Just like with David, God is with us in our battles in our lives as well. God will fight our battles for us because he is our deliverer.

  2. All Israel came together to David at Hebron and said, “We are you own flesh and
blood. (2)in the past, even while Saul was king, you were the one who led israel on their military campaingns. And the LORD you God said to you ‘you will shepherd MY people Israel and you will become their ruler.

The promises of God will come to pass! One thing is required, stay in his will for our lives.

  3. Who do you place around you? Your close friends are meant to lift and support you,not break you. So many times we pick people who make us feel good, people that we “click” with, but we have to ask the hard questions are the breaking us or are they helping us. Everywhere I always hear the phrase “Is it going to make you or break you?”
It’s time to look at the close friends and decide are the like the three mighties? Now I’m not talking about associates or people we call friends but don’t tell them our secrets to, no I’m talking about the people we’ve known for years. The people who know said about of secrets, the ones who know what’s going on in that head of your yours.
If space comes in between you and your friend, and something happens in your life will they come running? Or would they forget you?

  4. And David became more and more powerful, because the Lord of Heaven’s Armies was with him.
    1 Chronicles 11:9 NLT

We know we are nothing without David was powerful because he had the lord on his side he was a great king because the lord had favor over hime and listen to what god had to say a great leader is hearing the voice of god and listening and obey if we can just get our mind on the one the only one that rule heaven and earth the one that give and take
Jesus and stop focusing on what the world have to say we will soon realize the power that’s in us

The holy ghost is power without the holy ghost we are powerless

  5. 9. So David waxed greater and greater: for the Lord of hosts was with him.

Although this chapter lists mighty men that were with David, along with some of their accomplishments, it doesn’t say that he waxed greater and greater because they were with him, but because the Lord of hosts was with him.
God fights many battles for us, and He uses those that will let Him work through them to do so.

  6. THE RISK AND REWARD OF A BREAKTHROUGH

The pressures of life, the oppression of others and depression of the enemy has multitudes of victorious believers feeling like they are locked up in a cave somewhere, much like David was.

Deep in our hearts there is a longing for something that is just out of our reach. To obtain it or take possession of it would be a RISK.

RISK – 1: possibility of loss or injury : peril
2: someone or something that creates or suggests a hazard

A RISK requires FAITH and without FAITH it is impossible to please GOD. The greatest leaders among us are those that have exercised their right to RISK and succeeded.

    The Kingdom RISK

As we understand the text, David the leader had a desire, a want. Apparently GOD moved on the hearts of the servants of David to BREAKTHROUGH and get him that drink. It is not recorded that David requested the action. The RISK was the requirement to go into the enemy territory and acquire the desire of the leader.

These men found the courage to take the RISK and succeeded at their BREAKTHROUGH.

My prayer today is that we would acquire the fire, build the courage, conger up the confidence, create the faith, see the value, catch the spirit or whatever else may be required for us to exercise THE RISK AND REWARD OF A BREAKTHROUGH.

Sunday is coming. It is great day for a BREAKTHROUGH.

  7. 17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!

David longed for a drink but because of his own conviction he did not drink the water. He sacrificed what he was longing for and poured it out unto the Lord. Draw me closer to You Lord!

  8. 9 So David waxed greater and greater: for the Lord of hosts was with him.

In this verse David had the lord with him. In today’s world we have issues and problems arise infront of us,and many times we try to handle them on our own without the lords help, yet the lord is where our strength comes from no matter what. So with the lord being with David he could do anything with his strength.

  9. 18 And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the Lord.

19 And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.

These men were great men of God! They went the extra mile and sacrificed their life to make sure that their leader was satisfied. As a result these men were considered mighty men. And God blessed what they did. If we have that same desire and passion to serve as these men God will bless and anoint our efforts and we can be blessed as well.

  10. 3 So there at Hebron, David made a covenant before the Lord with all the elders of Israel. And they anointed him king of Israel, just as the Lord had promised through Samuel. (NLT)

The Lord keeps His word. We should trust Him knowing as long as we’re faithful to Him, He will be with us, He will save us, and bring us victory just like He did David. JESUS, today, YOU will SAVE me!

  11. “The Big Three from the Thirty made a rocky descent to David at the Cave of Adullam while a company of Philistines was camped in the Valley of Rephaim. David was holed up in the Cave while the Philistines were prepared for battle at Bethlehem. David had a sudden craving: “What I wouldn’t give for a drink of water from the well in Bethlehem, the one at the gate!” The Three penetrated the Philistine camp, drew water from the well at the Bethlehem gate, shouldered it, and brought it to David. And then David wouldn’t drink it! He poured it out as a sacred offering to GOD, saying, “I’d rather be damned by God than drink this! It would be like drinking the lifeblood of these men—they risked their lives to bring it.” So he refused to drink it. These are the kinds of things that the Big Three of the Mighty Men did.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭11:15-19‬

If I had risked my neck and had fought my way through a camp of Philistines to collect a little well water, I would have been upset with King David. “What do you mean, you’re not going to drink it? Are you kidding me?”

We place a high price on life. David seemed to recognize the value of life too. He equated the water with the blood that his three warriors had risked spilling. “All the more reason not to throw it away,” responds the average person today—until we get to the third item that needs valuing.

The value of a drink offering to God can only be understood in terms of who God is and what an offering represents. The act of offering something to God is an act of worship. David understood that the liquid in his hand was more precious than mere water; he valued it in terms of the best blood in his army. They understood the honor of having their water poured on the ground as a drink offering to God.

  12. 9 So David waxed greater and greater: for the Lord of hosts was with him.

10 These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.

  13. 1 Chronicles 11 (NLT)
    David’s Mightest Warriors
    10) These are the leaders of David’s mighty warriors. Together with all Israel, they decided to make David their king, just as the LORD had promised concerning Israel.
    11) Here is the record of David’s mightiest warriors:…
    26) David’s mightiest warriors also included:…

As I read this title and these verses and all the ones inbetween of what made these men mighty, it made me think of a song…
    We are mighty, mighty warriors
And we’re marching and moving across this land
We are taking back the kindgdom
With a shield of faith and a sword in our hand

We are Mighty Warriors in the LORD’S Army!

  14. 1 Chronicles 11: 22 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel who had done many acts he slew two lion like men of Moab also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day. And he slew an Egyptian a man of great stature 7 1/2 cubits high and in the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam and he went down to him with a staff and plucked the spear out of the Egyptians hand and slew him with his own spear.

  15. 1 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

Israel knew that David had led many people and been the backbone even though Saul was king. In the end, David was the victor. He did what was right in the sight of the Lord and the Lord brought him through and he took kingship and had people covenanted with him to be his mighty men.

When someone is anointed of God, people will recognize that favor and be willing to link up in covenant to build the Kingdom of God.

  16. 9 So David waxed greater and greater: for the Lord of hosts was with him.

The power we possess is not because of us but because of the God that lives in us!! Without Him we are powerless against our enemies, and can never truly reach others!

  17. 1 Chronicles 11:14 (NLT)
14 But Eleazar and David held their ground in the middle of the field and beat back the Philistines. So the Lord saved them by giving them a great victory.

The enemy is beaten back when there is unity in the church. Just as David the King, and Eleazar his officer stood back to back so must we stand back to back with Pastor.

  18. iLove to Grow in the Word

1 Chronicles 11:10-11 NLT (10) These are the leaders of David’s mighty warriors. Together with all Israel, they decided to make David their king, just as the LORD had promised concerning Israel. (11) Here is the record of David’s mightiest warriors: The first was Jashobeam the Hacmonite, who was leader of the Three—the mightiest warriors among David’s men. He once used his spear to kill 300 enemy warriors in a single battle.

Wow, the real key to these mighty men of David, is their loyalty. I believe they were so powerful because they were submitted. When you are submitted God will do great things for you.

  19. 17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!

  20. There isn’t no battle that we aren’t able to over come with God and the the holy Ghost in us! We serve a mighty God!! Lord your mighty!

  21. The word of Jesus (God) provides a glimpse into both transactional and servant leadership. There are also other diverse traits and theories of leadership that were identified. Dear God, thank you for your word and revelation. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  22. “And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.” David proved himself to the Lord, as well as too his men. We should be thankful to the Lord first, and mindful of others service. God help us to see as you see, in Jesus name.

  23. Follow the food

2 And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the Lord thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.

When I grew up we had a Dairy. When we wanted the cows to come in we would bang around on their feed buckets. The cows came because they knew they were going to be fed. This is nature. The survival of a living creature depends on getting fed. This is the same way for our spiritual man. You have to be able to feed sheep before you can lead them. This is why it is so important to know the word of God. How can you feed Simone else when your starving yourself. No one trusts a skinny chef. The bible Declares to eat the fat. You do become what you eat. When we are full of the word we can share with others and lead them to the supper themselves. If we are ravenously eating everything that comes our way because we starve ourselves most of the time then we have no room for anyone to feed beside us. Their is no other way to be spiritually heathy than to eat the word.

  24. 23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.

  25. David becomes a strong and powerful leader because the Lord Almighty is with him. How is David able to inspire loyalty and encourage faith? Because the Lord is with him (1 Ch 12:18). Why is David able to guide the people in worshipping and serving God? Because the Lord is with him (1 Ch 17:18-19). David starts out as a Shepherd boy and becomes king of all Israel only because God Almighty is with him. He knows God motivates, energizes and strengthens him. David’s soul longs to be in God’s presence everyday of his life (Ps 27:4). We should feel the same way to have God with us always. In God we find everything that we need. He is our source like He is to David. When God is with us no one can stand against us for greater is He who is living in us than he who is in this world.

  26. These are the leaders of David’s mighty warriors. Together with all Israel, they decided to make David their king, just as the Lord had promised concerning Israel.
    1 Chronicles 11:10 NLT

  27. David poured the water out before the Lord. How will we handle the sacrifices others make? Will we take them for our own pleasure and substance? Or will we offer them to God?

  28. Verse 3 NLT “So there at Hebron, David made a covenant before the Lord with all the elders of Israel. And they anointed him king of Israel, just as the Lord had promised through Samuel.”

Numbers 23:19 NLT “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”

  29. 19 And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.
How much do I value human life? Jesus views us as deeply precious, so we should view each other as the same!

  30. And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest. (1 Chronicles 11:19 KJV)

David has the loyalty of the fighting men that join him in battle. When David makes the comment that he wishes he had a drink of water from Bethlehem the mighty three men don’t think twice of their own lives at risk. They leave and break through the line of Philistine army to bring back the water just to refresh their king. David sees this act and dedicates it to the Lord because such courageous acts should be to glorify the Lord.

  31. 6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain.

  32. If we could turn our focus completely towards God, we could attain that mighty status. We are mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.

  33. 3 Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the Lord; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.
