1 Chronicles 14

1 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.

2 And David perceived that the Lord had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.

3 And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters.

4 Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

5 And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,

6 And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

7 And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.

8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.

9 And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

11 So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.

12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.

13 And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.

14 Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.

16 David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.

17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.

  1. Verses 10 and 14 show us how David enquired of the Lord first before going into battle. Some times we are so fixed on the battle and ready to go at it in the manner we think is best; but, 2 Kings 17:39 AMP says “But the Lord your God you shall fear [and worship]; then He will rescue you from the hands of all your enemies.”

  2. 15.When you hear a sound like marching feet in the tops of the poplar trees, go out and attack! That will be the signal that God is moving ahead of you to strike down the Philistine army.”
    1 Chronicles 14:15 NLT

If he had not been obedient had he then stuck down the Philistines??? NOOOO!!!
    GOD IS FAITHFUL!!!

  3. OBEDIENCE TO GOD

2 times we see in this chapter that David goes before the Lord to ask him what to do against the Philestines and God responded him and told him what to do and David did as told and he got victory over the battles against the enemy.

Sometimes we ask God for things and we don’t wait for God’s answer so we end up going against God will, make mistakes for our disobedience and blame God for it. David is showing us I. This chapter that when we wait upon the answer of God things run smooth, and God gives us the victory.

  4. 14 Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.

All you have to do is listen to the voice of God and he will tell you how to defeat the enemy in your life!

  5. 11. So David and his troops went up to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. “God did it!” David exclaimed. “He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So they named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”). NLT

    Isaiah 59:18-19
    18. He will repay his enemies for their evil deeds. His fury will fall on his foes. He will pay them back even to the ends of the earth.

    19. In the west, people will respect the name of the LORD; in the east, they will glorify him. For he will come like a raging flood tide driven by the breath of the LORD. NLT

    12. The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, so David gave orders to burn them.

They abandoned their gods where they felt their gods had abandoned them…
Isn’t it great to serve the God who will never abandon us?

God did it!!! Remember who has saved you and will continue to help defeat your enemies.

  8. 11. So David and his troops went up to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. “God did it!” David exclaimed. “He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So they named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”). NLT

  9. “So David asked God for advice. He said, “Should I go and attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” The Lord answered him, “Go. I will hand them over to you.””
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭14:10‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

With a Word of God we will always have the victory! His Word is the very foundation that we stand on.

  10. 12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.

13 And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.

  11. 10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

11 So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
David’s secret to success in his ministry is his willingness to always enquire of the Lord before he made a decision. That’s what gave him the victory over and over again. We must be willing to seek God before every choice we make so that we can receive His blessing and favor.

  12. 15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.

I hear a sound . We sometimes it’s what God is trying to say by seeking for a loud sound. In this passage of scripture it was a rustling in the mulberry trees. If we go crashing throughout the day we possibly will miss the sound God has ordained for us to hear. The voice He is speaking with. Help me God to hear what you are wanting me to hear at the appointed time in the midst of the battle. I hear a rustling in the mulberry trees.
It is time for battle and we have already won for God has gone before us!

  13. iLove to Grow in the Word
1 Chronicles 14:15 NLT When you hear a sound like marching feet in the tops of the poplar trees, go out and attack! That will be the signal that God is moving ahead of you to strike down the Philistine army.”

This sound of marching in the tops of the trees was the sound of the invisible angelic army that was going before David.

There are other examples of the invisible army of heaven like the following:
2 Kings 6:15-17 NLT When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha. (16) “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” (17) Then Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!” The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.

If we could just for a moment go back in time with David and look into the unseen world we would see the following scenario.

David enquires of the Lord if he should go against the Philistines and God tells him to wait…wait for what? Wait over there near the trees and wait till you hear the chariots of fire go “before” you. Just imagine now looking into the spirit realm and seeing the angelic army lead by Michael the Archangel rush into battle and actually fighting the battle in the spirit before David ever starts in the flesh.

This is why it is important not to make rash decisions before asking the man of God to enquire of the Lord in your behalf. Many have rushed into battles in the which you’re fighting all alone. It is impossible to win a spiritual battle in the flesh. Wait upon the Lord and let him fight for you.

  14. 10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

How many times have we asked God for an answer or for something and not gotten a response? How many times have we said tge same as David, should I go or will you give it to me? But I think what God told David, is that in order for God to release the blessing he would have to work for it. So I think it’s safe to say work for your blessings. And let God give the increase. This is a personal testimony in my life with the bank. I have been working very hard to train as a banker, having those accounts. Conversations, about loans,accts.,savings,ect. And when the time was right I applied for an open position. I did not get it. But I praised God for the opportunity that he would see for for me iiln the future. A couple of days later I got a call from our HR dept. and the lady on the other side said to go and apply again. So I did. She called me back right away and offered the position to me. Now I had been praying that when I got a promotion I was praying for at least a jump of $2 /HR. More. I knew God could do it. And my faith was that high. Then when I heard $3.65/HR. Raise, which is what I got, I was extremely excited, because God outdid what I was praying for. But I would have never got the promotion without some hard work on my part. God does bless us yes. But he also blesses those who work hard for him and themselves. God always comes first. With tithe and offerings. So work hard and believe harder God wants to bless you. But are you working towards the blessing?

  15. Test

“And David inquired of God, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up, and I will give them into your hand.””
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭14:10‬

How often do we involve the Lord in our decisions? With people, it takes a true relationship with someone to ask their advice, weigh their decision with our beliefs and finally make a choice. Are their motives the same as ours? Does the outcome benefit them?

With God, He is on our side. If we pattern our lives after His Kingdom we can fully rely on direction from the Lord and rest assured in His answers; not matter if the answer is yes or no. As with David, there were different instruction that produced the same results. Sometimes, we might not understand the process but we can rest assured the Lord does have our best interest in mind. Sometimes, we may have to step backwards to move forward.

  16. 10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

11 So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.

David. Check with the Lord first before he did anything he did it again later on in the chapter. He won the battle because he listen and obey the voice of god

  17. 8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David.

  18. 10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

When problems rise and you can see the battle coming before you engage you better seek God and His wisdom otherwise you might find yourself defeated. There are battles that belongs to the Lord, there are battles that are lessons, and there are battles that aren’t even ours and we need to stay away from them. Unless you go to the throne of God and ask for guidance you might be getting into a battle that God didn’t want you in it in the first place. Let God pick the battles!!!!!

  19. 1 Chronicles 14:8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel they went up in full force to search for him but David heard about it and went out to meet them. Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim so David inquired of God shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands? The Lord answered him Go I will deliver them into your hands.

  20. 10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

This is one thing I’ve learned in my relationship with God. When God commands us to do something, DO IT!!!! Even if you are scared, talk to the Lord and He will assure you for you to do His will……There might be times when you feel like running away but He is right there going before us in what He commanded us to do…I have never been so in love with Jesus like I am now….I always pray to God for more hunger and passion for His kingdom. I don’t want to get distracted and start from point A again….He has put my family and I to reach the Hispanic community and we will not give up. We are set and stone on his Word, His promises, and prophecies that have been said to us before. We will impact and reach this world….This is only the beginning 🙂 Praise God!!!!! Never let go of your dreams…..DREAMING BIG!!!!! 13500 soul revival 🙂

  21. “So David and his troops went up to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. “God did it!” David exclaimed. “He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So they named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”).”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭14:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We must have the attitude David had, when he received victory he gave all glory to God! Sometime when we receive our victory we like to take the credit for ourselves but we must remember that we are simply just the vessel God chose to use, he doesn’t need us to do great things but rather he wants us. We must be willing to be used by Him and return all Glory to Him!!

  22. 15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
    Who are you listening to?
When we ask God for his protection and what we should do on a situation and we hand it over to God and leave it alone, God will before us and clear the path that he is directing us too.

  23. TO GO OR NOT TO GO

The Philistines are a type or representation of the flesh. Israel fought them repeatedly but never fully defeated them. When David knew they were coming against him, he did not immediately attack and deal with the consequences later. He PRAYED to GOD and asked for direction and GOD answered!

Too often believers and even ministers feel defeated because we have fought in battles that the LORD didn’t say GO. We must discipline our minds and hearts to hear the voice of the LORD. JESUS will speak to us TO GO OR NOT TO GO.

In both battles David was instructed by the LORD. Both times the LORD told him GO, but in verse the LORD told him which way to GO.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo

  24. 10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines?

God already has a plan for us to defeat our enemies. All we have to do is to enquire about that plan. Sometimes it may be with prayer and the word, other times it may be through fasting, sometimes it may be from abstaining from partaking in a distraction that causes us to lose victory. Whatever it is if we will enquire of the Lord, we will find the answer to being victorious.

  25. 12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.

13 And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.

14 Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

  26. In this chapter, David fights the same enemy twice. He seeks counsel and guidance of God both times, yet the first time God tells him to do it one way, and the second time God tells him to do it another way. The important thing was that David was obedient to the command of God, and he came out Victorious. For God was the God of his battles.

I liken this to us when we are fighting the same enemy more than once. Maybe you did it one way the first time, but now you may have to do it another way the second time.
The important thing is… Seek the counsel and guidance of God, be obedient to what he tells you to do, and you will come out Victorious. For God is the God of our battles.

  27. 16 David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.

17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.

  28. 14 Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

Its interesting to note that David obeyed when God said go and when he said not. Many people think that no is the worst amswer but its just a redirection to your path that will ensure you a victory and thus a blessing. We should consider that He knows best and knows what will be of blessing. What you want may not be the path God wants you to go through. Obedience will garantee a victory and blessing.

  29. 14 Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

And David enquired again! Wow what a concept. You mean that everything I’m going to do something that I should always inquire of God? Do you know what Gods plan?

Do you mean that I have to talk to God about everything? If you don’t then you run the risk of being defeated and being put to shame. Never get tired of going before the Lord in prayer.

  30. 1 Chronicles 14:14-16 (GNT with Deuterocanon)
14 Once more David consulted God, who answered, “Don’t attack them from here, but go around and get ready to attack them from the other side, near the balsam trees. 15 When you hear the sound of marching in the treetops, then attack, because I will be marching ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.” 16 David did what God had commanded, and so he drove the Philistines back from Gibeon all the way to Gezer.

This scripture shows the principle of reacting instead of responding. When we react we open ourselves to tying God’s hand. Instead doing what David did shows that not every situation is the same. David attacked head on and was victorious. Yet if he would have done that again then he would have failed. God told him exactly how to win.

  31. 10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

11 So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.

  32. 17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.

When God brags on you, no one else needs to. People trying to make a name for themselves will never stand a chance with those that God makes a name for.

  33. v15″ And it shall be, when you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees then you shall go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”

We can praise HIM in the midst of the battle.
For GOD has gone out before you to strike the camp of the enemy.

  34. “And David perceived that the Lord had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.” The word of God (Jesus) records “because of his people Israel”. David was chosen by God too be king; however it would have meant very little without people. Although one may never become a king, everyone will lead someone; however too lead requires another. Dear God, help us never lose sight that it must be about you first, and people (souls) second. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  35. “And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.” They had just experienced a victory over their enemy, which they immediately purged themselves of their enemies gods. David was wise in having the gods destroyed, elsewise there would have been temptation. When we are filled or refilled with the Holy Ghost we have also experienced a victory; therefore we would be as wise if we would simply turn away from whatever had hindered us. God help us to obtain and retain victories in you, in Jesus name.

  36. I Chronicles 14:17 (msg) David was soon famous all over the place, far and near; and God put the fear of God into the godless nations.

II Chronicles 20:29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdom’s of those countries, when they had heard that the Lord fought against the enemies of Israel.

    God has our back!

  37. 10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

David perceived that the Lord had placed him as successful king but he didn’t let it get to his head. Well he may have violated God’s plan of marriage to only one woman but he still knew who the source was of his success in his growing kingdom. It was only because God was with him. So he inquired of the Lord if he should go to battle against the Philistines and if he would defeat them. God not only gives him victory but a supernatural sign with the sound from the mulbery trees when to attack. God will lead us and guide us in victory if we seek him first.

  38. And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.(1 Chronicles 14:17 KJV)

David knew that if it weren’t for the Lord guiding him that he would be nothing. All of David’s success comes from God who is with him always. When God blesses us it’s we have to remember it’s to glorify Him with. Davids fame may have spread across the nation’s but it’s free advertisement for God to be glorified. Like David when we are blessed we should thank God for it so others will come to be blessed too. It’s not about us or our fame we are just vessels and servants of God.

  39. 8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.

As you grow in your relationship with Jesus, you will face opposition.

  40. 14 Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.

Never follow through without consent from the LORD. There may not be a green light straight through. You may have to stop for just a bit until it’s the right time to go. Listen for the sound of marching and you will know the Lord has gone before you.

  41. 14 Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
Jesus, make me sensitive to your plans, so that I will move when you move, and fight when you speak. I have no desire to be a passive servant of you, Lord. Command my actions.

  42. 16 David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.

17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.

In this chapter David was obedient , he would seek God for direction.
