1 Chronicles 20

1 And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.

2 And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David’s head: and he brought also exceeding much spoil out of the city.

3 And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so dealt David with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

4 And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines; at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, that was of the children of the giant: and they were subdued.

5 And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver’s beam.

6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot and he also was the son of the giant.

7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

  1. 8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

After slaying one giant, Goliath went on to conquer and defeat more giants after that. After he conquered one giant, God gave him dominion in that realm, allowing him to conquer more giants that he had to battle. It mirrors the spiritual realm, as God helps conquer giants in our life, he gives us dominion over those giants in our lives. So if you wondering why things are coming against in your life, it may be because God has given you a giant he wants to conquer so that you may have dominion over that giant in your life and you can help other people who are struggling with the same giants in their life.

  2. SLAY THE GIANTS

8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

The courage and confidence in GOD that David reciprocated from slaying Goliath is revealed now when the intimidating spirit rises again to frustrate the peace of GOD’s people.

We learn from this 2 important principals.

    1. The seed of the giants we conquer will manifest themselves. You may have to conquer the temptation again. Remain humbled and prayerful.

    2. We will feed from the courage of past victories to conquer again. JESUS will do IT again. Protect your FAITH.

  3. Where do you turn in time of trouble?
What do we do when turmoil is all around us, turn it over to God. When we turn it over to God leave it there don’t take it back and try to fix it.
    Reminds me of the song”

Where do I go when there’s nobody else to turn to?
Who do I turn to when nobody wants to listen?
Who do I lean on when there’s no foundation stable?
I go to the Rock, I know He’s able, I go to the Rock

I go to The Rock for my salvation
I go to the stone that the builders rejected
I run to the mountain and the mountain stands by me
When the earth all around me is sinking sand
On Christ, the Solid Rock, I stand
When I need a shelter, when I need a friend, I go to the Rock

Where do I hide till the storms have all passed over?
Who do I run to when the winds of sorrow threaten?
Is there a refuge in the time of tribulation?
When my soul needs consolation, I go to the Rock

  4. 7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants
God’s people are giant slayers. They are overcomers. When the Giants decided to defile God they were destroyed. When the enemy tried to rise up and defiled God they were defeated. When the enemy tries to rise against the people of God they will be defeated!

  5. 6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot and he also was the son of the giant.

7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

  6. 1 Chronicles 20: 4, 5, 7-8
    4) … at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, that was of the children of the giant:…
    5) … and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite,…
    7) But when he defied Israel (the giant with 24 fingers and toes), Johathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.
    8) These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

This makes us realize what a great leader David was. He killed the giant Goliath, and now because of his leadership and example, his servants were inspired to kill the giants they faced.

I’m so thankful for the great men and women of God who have gone before and who have Conquerored giants in their lives, and because of their leadership and example, it has inspired me to realize I can Conquer the giants that I face in my life.

  7. 1 Chronicles 19:6 In another battle with the Philistines at Gath, they encountered a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in all, who was also a descendant of the giants. 7But when he defied and taunted Israel, he was killed by Jonathan, the son of David’s brother Shimea.

Once Goliath was killed by David, it became easy for others to believe that they too could kill giants. There are several giants killed in this chapter by David’s men. This proves that David was a great leader in the fact that the people did not have to wait on him alone to kill giants. He lead by example and others followed and believed they could do the same things he did. God is looking for a people in this endtime generation that will do greater things than the previous generations.

  8. 7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

When things arise in our life that is contrary to the principles of the Word of God we live by, we need to slay that giant immediately. Don’t befriend it, don’t play with it, don’t give any place to it in your life.

Ephesians 4:27-30 – 27 Neither give place to the devil.

28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

  9. 1 Chronicles 20:4 In the course of time war broke out with the Philistines at Geze. At that time the Sibbekai the Hushathite killed Sippai one of the descendants of the Rephaites and the Philistines were subjugated. In another battle with the Philistines Elhanan son of Ja killed Lahti the brother of Goliath the Gittie who had a spear with a shaft like a Weaver’s rod. In still another battle which took place at Gath there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot twenty for in all. He also was a descended from Rapha. When he taunted Israel Jonathan son of Shimea,David’s brother killed him. These were descendants of a Rapha in Gath and they fell at the hands of David and his men.

  10. 7 But when he defied and taunted Israel, he was killed by Jonathan, the son of David’s brother Shimea. (NLT)

This giant crossed the line when he defied and taunted Isreal. When we find ourselves in similar situations, we must be bold and confident to know God will help us defeat the giant we face. Reminds me of the song we sang last night, “When praises go up…Giants are gonna fall, chains are coming off, mountains cast into the sea. So praise Him in a dance, praise Him in advance. We were made to give Him the praise, I was made to give Him the praise.” There is victory in your praise!

  11. 2 And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David’s head: and he brought also exceeding much spoil out of the city.

  12. And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David’s head: and he brought also exceeding much spoil out of the city.

  13. 6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot and he also was the son of the giant.

7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

  14. “8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.”

    Giants will fall!

We are called by God for his purpose , but their are times when we tend forgot how much stronger we really are. When the big situations in life start to strike to a point where they seem out of control .. sometimes we tend to allow the maginutude of our problem get a hold of us . Remember the sacrifice , remember the blood that was shed , remember that the reason your alive another day is because God has given you another opportunity to make it right! It’s NOT OVER! It’s time to fight the adversary , break chains , DESTROY giants that come against the church ! We will overcome and thrive in the name of Jesus ! We have a destiny that God has set for us , and as long as we continue to thrive for it no one or NOTHING can stop us from the purpose! #Thrive

  15. God gave David power and dominion over the Giants. He slew them many times. He was doing as God instructed and took the land and the promises God made to him.
I must listen to God as He gives me power over my temptations and delivers mercy and grace upon my life by overtaking the adversaries that try to block my blessing.

  16. There isn’t a obstacle we can’t overcome with our God on our side. What God has done back then he can do it now for us. We have power within us to overcome anything that comes my way!

  17. 7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Out of this I seem to understand that you can only grow as much as your leader. If who you follow has a limited mindset of spiritual growth, your growth will be limited.

  18. 8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

There were more giants to conquer but the courage of one built faith in the rest of the army servants of David that even they were the ones salying giants. Dont be afraid to take a step of faith you never know who you might inspire. Keep on living for God and leading by example.

  19. These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
    1 Chronicles 20:8 KJV
    http://bible.com/1/1ch.20.8.KJV

After every giant that the Lord helps us conquer there will always another one that rises against us but God has given us More stones to defeat them

  20. 1 Chronicles 20:8 (KJV Strong’s)
8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

I believe there comes a day in the life of a believer when every giant they have falls.

  21. 6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot and he also was the son of the giant.

7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

  22. Giants and Men

This chapter shows that when a mans heart is right he can do anything. David and his men were not perfect by any means, you can read of many things that were not right with them, but they had the most important part right, their hearts. God doesn’t , by any means, excuse the faults of men but it is easier to love someone when they truly love you. When your heart is fixed on God mighty things happen. You can slay the biggest giants when your heart set on God.

  23. 8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

There’s going to be giants all the time we want to do things for the kingdom of God, but we must put of focus and eyes on the Lord. He already gave us the victory it’s just test that He lets us go through to so we can get stronger in Him. Just put your eyes on the Lord and you will see He is there before us.

  24. 7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

The testimony of David, when he was just a young man, killing Goliath for defying the Lords armies had certainly been a story told to the Israelite men as children. They probably grew up throwing stones at targets practicing for when one day they would have the privilege to be part of King David’s army.

This is an example of what we should do. When we walk in this fight called life, slaying giants and taking the enemies territory, we need to make sure that our children know, WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE! That our children know, who God is and what He does for us daily. That when they grow up, they too will look forward to the days when they face giants and boldly stand for the Kingdom of God.

  25. In reading this chapter, it reminds me of the song that says “Giants are gonna fall, chains are coming off, Mountains cast into the sea. Praise Him in the dance, praise Him in advance, We were made to give Him the praise, were made to give Him the praise I was made to give Him the praise ?”

  26. When God is on your side, you are able to slay any giant that comes your way. God gives us the power to overcome. We can do all things through christ.

  27. “But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.” The word of God (Jesus) identified ‘when’. Israel was chosen by God, which should have been recognized then and still remembered today. One that would defy Israel is very unwise, as it is essentially challenging God’s choice. Dear God, open eyes and ears. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  28. “And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.” Our place can and will make a difference. Even though David was the king, the battle was not won because of him. Rabbah provides an example of humility in that we cannot afford to become caught up in self, or the world’s viewpoint; whereas we should be concerned with the Lord’s. God help us to seek you and never our own glory, in Jesus name.

  29. 2 And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David’s head: and he brought also exceeding much spoil out of the city.

  30. 6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot and he also was the son of the giant.

7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
We are giant slayers! These verses are good reminders of what our legancy is.

  31. 6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot and he also was the son of the giant.

7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.

The giants fierce appearance was nothing that God couldn’t overcome. This battle was already won.

  32. Just like in this chapter, WE MUST BE AT WAR AT ALL TIMES!!!
We must be united in all aspects to be ready to go at war against any enemy.

  33. “And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David’s head: and he brought also exceeding much spoil out of the city.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭20:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sometimes the things that are meant to destroy us become a great blessing.
