1 Chronicles 23

1 So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

2 And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

3 Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.

4 Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the Lord; and six thousand were officers and judges:

5 Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the Lord with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.

6 And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 Of the Gershonites were, Laadan, and Shimei.

8 The sons of Laadan; the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

9 The sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan.

10 And the sons of Shimei were, Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

11 And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father’s house.

12 The sons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

13 The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.

14 Now concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.

15 The sons of Moses were, Gershom, and Eliezer.

16 Of the sons of Gershom, Shebuel was the chief.

17 And the sons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

18 Of the sons of Izhar; Shelomith the chief.

19 Of the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

20 Of the sons of Uzziel; Micah the first and Jesiah the second.

21 The sons of Merari; Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli; Eleazar, and Kish.

22 And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them.

23 The sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

24 These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the Lord, from the age of twenty years and upward.

25 For David said, The Lord God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:

26 And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.

27 For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:

28 Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

29 Both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;

30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even:

31 And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the Lord in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the Lord:

32 And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the Lord.

  1. 13 The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.

  2. 27 For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:

    28 Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

    29 Both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;

    30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even:

  3. Verses 30-32 CEV “Every morning and evening, the Levites are to give thanks to the Lord and sing praises to him. They must also give thanks and sing praises when sacrifices are offered on each Sabbath, as well as during New Moon Festivals and other religious feasts. There must always be enough Levites on duty at the temple to do everything that needs to be done. They were once in charge of taking care of the sacred tent; now they are responsible for the temple and for helping Aaron’s descendants.” We too, POFW, have been given the charge and assigned our duties/responsibilities. As it says it in the NLT version of these same verses we, like the Levites, must now follow all the procedures that we have been given and faithfully carry out our duties of service at the house of the Lord.

  4. 13. Amram had two sons: Aaron and Moses. Aaron’s lineage was chosen to ordain and cleanse themselves as the most holy among the Levites forever. They were charged with burning incense before the Eternal, ministering to Him, and blessing in His name forever. Because they were set apart, their lineage is not included in this genealogy. The Voice

    I realize that in this text, ‘charged with’ simply means ‘given the duty of’, but it made me think…if serving in God’s Kingdom was a crime (and it may soon be), what would we be charged with, and is there enough evidence to convict us?

  5. At the same time he brought together all the leaders of Israel, the priests, and the Levites. The Levites thirty years and older were counted; the total was thirty-eight thousand. David sorted them into work groups: “Twenty-four thousand are in charge of administering worship in the sanctuary; six thousand are officials and judges; four thousand are security guards; and four thousand are to serve in the orchestra, praising God with instruments that I have provided for praise.”
    1 Chronicles 23:2‭-‬5 MSG

    My mind I guess isn’t big enough to even begin to imagine how many people that is but I think and i believe POFW can do that toooo!!! FOR WHAT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD!?!

  6. Proverbs 6: You lazy fool, look at an ant. Watch it closely; let it teach you a thing or two. Nobody has to tell it what to do. All summer it stores up food; at harvest it stockpiles provisions. So how long are you going to laze around doing nothing? How long before you get out of bed? A nap here, a nap there, a day off here, a day off there, sit back, take it easy—do you know what comes next? Just this: You can look forward to a dirt-poor life, poverty your permanent houseguest!

    Perfect timing! As a follow up to yesterdays thoughts…

  7. 30 And each morning and evening they stood before the Lord to sing songs of thanks and praise to him. (NLT)

    “Praise Him in the morning, praise Him in the noontime…Praise Him when the sun goes down!” He is worthy to be praised! We may not always feel like it, but can we make the sacrifice to do it anyway?!

  8. “So the Levites carried out their duties for the Tent of Meeting and for the Holy Room. They worked under their relatives who were in the family line of Aaron. They helped them serve at the Lord’s temple.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭23:32‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

    There is always room to serve. I pray that we would always sacrifice our services to the Lords Kingdom.

  9. Message version Says Preparation for Worship

    No matter what area you commit to in the kingdom of God each is vitally important. The ultimate goal is that we all are making Preparation for Worship.

    28-31 From now on the assigned work of the Levites was to assist Aaron’s sons in the work of worship in God’s house: maintain courtyards and closets, keep the furniture and utensils of worship clean, take care of any extra work needed in the work of worship, and provide bread for the table and flour for the Meal Offerings and the unraised wafers—all baking and mixing, all measuring and weighing. Also they were to be present for morning prayers, thanking and praising God, for evening prayers, and at the service of Whole-Burnt-Offerings to God on Sabbath, at New Moons, and at all festivals. They were on regular duty to serve God according to their assignment and the required number.

    32 In short, the Levites, with the sons of Aaron as their companions in the ministry of holy worship, were responsible for everything that had to do with worship: the place and times and ordering of worship.

  10. CHURCH INVOLVEMENT

    4 Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the Lord; and six thousand were officers and judges:
    5 Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the Lord with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.

    We learn that from the early days in worship (church), many were involved in the service, but not everyone did the same thing.

    The involvement inspires me. There was no evidence of the temple becoming desolate, due to the absence of sacrifice as we heard preached last night.

    A 4,000 piece orchestra doesn’t just happen and play together, there was practice, practice and more practice. 6000 Leaders and 4000 Security guards. 24000 involved in leading the worship in the sanctuary.

    JESUS today I pray that everyone sees their need to be involved in the service of the LORD at The POFW.

  11. 26 And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.

    27 For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:

    28 Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

    29 Both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;

    30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even:

    31 And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the Lord in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the Lord:

    32 And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the Lord.

    sometimes God changes what he wants us to do for him in his Kingdom. We need to listen and willing to follow his commands.

  12. 1 Chronicles 23:32 NLT And so, under the supervision of the priests, the Levites watched over the Tabernacle and the Temple and faithfully carried out their duties of service at the house of the LORD.

    This chapter today connects Bishop Foster’s and Brother Godwin’s messages together in the fact that responsibility of the temple was spread out among the young ministers. The modern day church expects the pastor to do everything. Most Pastors in America are running aimlessly. That is not the will of God. Come on young Levites, let’s rise up and faithfully serve the Lord.

  13. 30 And each morning and evening they stood before the Lord to sing songs of thanks and praise to him. (NLT)
    When the praises go up the blessings come down! A praise should always be in our lips and on our hearts every morning and evening that we live!

  14. They all found something that they could do to Serve the lord. The NLT said that they were all faithful

    We all can find something to do in the kingdom No job is to small in the kingdom of god They all are very important

  15. 32 And so, under the supervision of the priests, the Levites watched over the Tabernacle and the Temple[c] and faithfully carried out their duties of service at the house of the Lord.

  16. David also reorganized the Levites. This tribe was no longer needed to transport the tabernacle, Israel’s ancient, portable worship center. When the temple was built they would have important new roles, assisting the priests, maintaining the temple buildings, and leading God’s people in praise.

  17. 30 They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord. They were to do the same in the evening

    How beautiful is this, everyone was designated to do something. Everybody had a duty to serve in just like at POFW. We must have that burden to serve and be used even in the things we might not enjoy. Everything is for the kingdom of God. This is why the first thing that we must say in the morning is thank you Jesus for another day and praise Him because He is God. We could’ve been at a hospital, paralyzed, or dead but instead God lets us live another day. I teach my children that with everything they receive or have to thank God for. When we take them out to eat, when they find money, a new toy, food, drink, health,healing, waking up in the morning. Always thanking God because He is the one that gives. Thank You Jesus!!!!!

  18. 13 The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.

    To be separated from this world is a key to living a holy lifestyle unto God.

  19. 30 Also they were to be present for morning prayers, thanking and praising God, for evening prayers, 31 and at the service of Whole-Burnt-Offerings to God on Sabbath, at New Moons, and at all festivals. They were on regular duty to serve God according to their assignment and the required number. 32 In short, the Levites, with the sons of Aaron as their companions in the ministry of holy worship, were responsible for everything that had to do with worship: the place and times and ordering of worship.

  20. 30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even:

    We need to wake up every morning with a song on our lips, praise in our hearts and dancing in our feet!!

  21. 1 So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

    David knew his time to reign as king was over, so he made preparation and placed Solomon into the role of authority.

    It’s so important in the kingdom of God that pastor’s prepare men to take their place and then know the time to remove themselves and put that man in the role of Pastor.

  22. 1 Chronicles 23:28-31 (MSG)
    From now on the assigned work of the Levites was to assist Aaron’s sons in the work of worship in GOD’S house: maintain courtyards and closets, keep the furniture and utensils of worship clean, take care of any extra work needed in the work of worship, and provide bread for the table and flour for the Meal Offerings and the unraised wafers – all baking and mixing, all measuring and weighing. They were on regular duty to serve GOD according to their assignment and the required number.

    “They were on regular duty to serve GOD according to their assignment and the required number.”
    Everyone who serves in the kingdom of God is important. Prepare for worship – do your regular duty, do what you are assigned to do, and that includes all of us.

    As Pastor Watts said last night, “The best thing we can do for him and Sis. Watts is TO BE AT YOUR POST!”

  23. When the time is right

    1 So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

    When the time is right,God will elevate you. Not before and not after. In his time. And his timing is perfect.

  24. 28The work of the Levites was to assist the priests, the descendants of Aaron, as they served at the house of the LORD. They also took care of the courtyards and side rooms, helped perform the ceremonies of purification, and served in many other ways in the house of God.

    We all should chip in and keep the house of the Lord in immaculate condition. If papers, wrappers or strings are on the floor, lets pick it up. The church body, we’re all responsible for maintaining the church.

  25. 28 Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

    29 Both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;

    There’s a lot of work to be done in the church! Get involved! 🙂
    Commit and serve with all your heart!

  26. “2 And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
    3 Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.
    4 Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the Lord; and six thousand were officers and judges:
    5 Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the Lord with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.”

    Given a position for the kingdom!

    Each and everyone of use are called to have a position for the kingdom! There’s no need for thoughts to come in mind to say “I’m not good for anything” . God has given YOU a specific duty/calling/PURPOSE! We all have a special importance for God , because through US he will use us to reach to the lost. Seek the will of God DAILY , and you will see the outcome of the purpose unfold in your life. Fight the good battle of faith and NEVER let any devil in hell tell you , your not worth the purpose because of your past. It’s time to RISE against all forces of darkness and impact our cities and bring true gospel to our great state and nation ! Do YOUR part!

  27. 30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even:

    31 And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the Lord in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the Lord:

    32 And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the Lord.

  28. 1 Chronicles 23:13 (KJV Strong’s)
    13 The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.

    Separated – to be set apart

    In the service of the Lord we are set apart. We are not to live like and be like everyone else. Our attitude, lifestyle, and even ways we have fun needs to be in line with the word of God.

    As we are kings and priests with a living temple we daily minister in we are to always be sanctified. This responsibility is upon us because just like the priest we are to offer incense, prayer and worship. We are to minister to God, serve him and do the work of the kingdom. And we are to bless his name forever.

    The name of Jesus is upon us. When we sin and misrepresent him we don’t just hurt ourselves but we disgrace his name.

  29. Every one was assigned for work, like the preaching last night no room for desolation. I pray that my heart keeps the desire of sacrifice my time for the Lord, even at times when things are going wrong, that my heart and hands keep been busy in the work of the Lord. There is so much to do and not enough time for the Lord to come, so we must go and reach everyone one that need Hope. Let us be busy with the things of God, let as have a burning desire to work, work for the kingdom.

  30. 30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even:

    Praise him, praise him, praise him in the morning praise praise him in the noon time, praise him praise him..Praise when the sun goes down! We should wake up blessing the lord and giving him thanks , because he has down marvelous things!

  31. 26 And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.

    David is putting the men to work here according to their office. They are being arranged by their time, talent, and treasure. This marks a new point where changes are made to ministry like not having to carry the tabernacle anymore. A new system is being put into place and they move in unity with the will of God.

  32. The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the Lord , to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.(1 Chronicles 23:13 KJV)

    Aaron and Moses may have passed on but their ministry will live on through their sons forever. They are to be separated and minister unto the Lord. We have the same calling to live separated lives and minister before the Lord to the people.

  33. 1 So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

    2 And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

    David is of a better age and made Solomon King. David knowing he wasn’t going to get to build the temple he got involved as much possible because he wanted to be a part of it even though he wasn’t going to build it. David was obedient to God and allowed his son the new King to be in control of building the temple that he wanted to build. David was very brave and knew how to take his place without acting out of disobedience.

  34. The church is made up of great people who desire to serve God with all their heart. The people faithfulness and dedication to the great commission will ensure that the Kingdom of God exspands across the Worls.

  35. 3 Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.

    Everyone but the priest got counted, when they were old enough to choose to serve in the military .

  36. 32 And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the Lord.

    What is your charge in the Kingdom of God? Do it with gladness as unto the Lord. Apointed for the service in ministry.

  37. “Now concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.” The word of God (Jesus) identifies equality. There is no favoritism with God, as even the sons of Moses were too do their part. One should therefore be mindful and never feel above another, for Jesus already evicted one that tried (satan). Dear God, awaken us. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  38. “So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.” David continued for many years on the path the Lord chose for him, which his obedience and labor afforded his children with more. Likewise we should also be mindful of our obedience and labor unto the Lord. For our goal should be too see our children and others blessed by the Lord. God order our steps and help us so that another may be blessed by you, in Jesus name.

  39. I Chronicles 23:28 “…..their office was to wait on
    Our character is tested by the way in which we accept office-If we are bad tempered and resentful, ungrateful and negligent, we show that we do not deserve any status in the house of the Lord; If we are faithful over a few things we shall be made ruler over many things-Let us prove our fitness for the highest office by doing well the things which pertain to the lowest.

  40. 30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even:

    When? Every Morning, and Evening

    So when we ask when it would be a good times to thank and praise the Lord, there you go.
    This is also true about the blog. We need to customize our lives to fit what God desires for our life. A daily experience with God is one that produces intimacy. The more you dedicate into thanking and praising, reading, praying and fasting, the closer you get to HIM.
    Make it a habit to thank and praise HIM daily, you will see that Jesus likes the attention.

  41. The priesthood of believers.

    Just like the Levites, we all have a duty to worship. 1 Peter 2:9 states we are a royal priesthood. New Testament believers are like the Levites in the Old Testament. Worship is are first and most important calling.

  42. We are made with the abilities to serve and praise. This chapter reminded me of a quote someone once said, “praise is what I do, praise is who I am.” So, what is it that is stopping us from serving and praising God? Be what God created you to be. Be a servant. Be a praiser.

  43. 30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even;
    Always praise HIM! Never lose the sacrifice of praise!

  44. 30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even:

    The Lord is worthy of the praise every morning. He deserves all the honor and the glory.

  45. 1 So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

    Again a perfect example of leaving them in charge of all you do in the house of the Lord. Even have courses so you can teach others what they must do in the house of the Lord. What is the use of keeping your gift to yourself? Don’t you know that if you do that you leave you church lacking at the time you return home? We must give all to God and multiply our gift by sowing it unto others so the harvest grows!!! Lord give us vision of time and goals so we may share with others the gifts you have given us in Jesus Name Amen!!!

  46. “Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the Lord; and six thousand were officers and judges: Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the Lord with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith. And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭23:4-6

    David separated he people to allow them to work and to allow someone to be over different groups. I don’t know that I will ever feel like I could break up a group of people to help them to be delighted into groups as well as David did.
