1 Chronicles 24

1 Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron; Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

2 But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest’s office.

3 And David distributed them, both Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their offices in their service.

4 And there were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar, and thus were they divided. Among the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen chief men of the house of their fathers, and eight among the sons of Ithamar according to the house of their fathers.

5 Thus were they divided by lot, one sort with another; for the governors of the sanctuary, and governors of the house of God, were of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar.

6 And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household being taken for Eleazar, and one taken for Ithamar.

7 Now the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah,

8 The third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim,

9 The fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin,

10 The seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah,

11 The ninth to Jeshuah, the tenth to Shecaniah,

12 The eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim,

13 The thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab,

14 The fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer,

15 The seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Aphses,

16 The nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezekel,

17 The one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul,

18 The three and twentieth to Delaiah, the four and twentieth to Maaziah.

19 These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.

20 And the rest of the sons of Levi were these: Of the sons of Amram; Shubael: of the sons of Shubael; Jehdeiah.

21 Concerning Rehabiah: of the sons of Rehabiah, the first was Isshiah.

22 Of the Izharites; Shelomoth: of the sons of Shelomoth; Jahath.

23 And the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth.

24 Of the sons of Uzziel; Michah: of the sons of Michah; Shamir.

25 The brother of Michah was Isshiah: of the sons of Isshiah; Zechariah.

26 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi: the sons of Jaaziah; Beno.

27 The sons of Merari by Jaaziah; Beno, and Shoham, and Zaccur, and Ibri.

28 Of Mahli came Eleazar, who had no sons.

29 Concerning Kish: the son of Kish was Jerahmeel.

30 The sons also of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites after the house of their fathers.

31 These likewise cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers over against their younger brethren.

  1. Just like there is room in the house of God for everybody. There is also room in the house of God for everybody to work. We are all servants of the Lord and as the beginning of verse 31 in the NLT says “Like the descendants of Aaron, they were assigned to their duties by means of sacred lots, without regard to age or rank……”. We are all one body working together and each part (member) is important to the functioning (fulfilling the purpose or task of) and productivity (the effectiveness of productive effort) of the body.

  2. 1 Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron; Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

The divisions we find here are not divisions of vision or a disruption of order. For God is a God of order and decency. Here we see the plan to put order in a effort to avoid division. Everyone has a place or a responsibility to fulfill and as they fulfill that responsibility everything will stay in unified for together we are stronger.

  3. 19)They served in this appointed order when they entered The Temple of God , following the procedures laid down by their ancestor Aaron as God , the God of Israel, had commanded him.

    ORDER, reminds me of POFW!!!
I DON’T KNOW OF ANOTHER CHURCH THAT DOES AS EXCELLENT OF A JOB AS POFW DOES!!! GOD IS OF ORDER!!!

  4. 1 Chronicles 24:5-6 & 31 (NLT)
    5) All tasks were assigned to the various groups by means of sacred lots so that no preferring would be shown, for there were many qualified officials serving God in the sanctuary from among the descendants of both Eleazar and Ithamar.
    6) Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a Levite, acted as secretary and wrote down the names and assignments in the presence of the king, the officials, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the family leaders of the priests and Levites. The descendants of Eleazar and Ithamar took turns casting lots.
    31) Like the descendants of Aaron, they were assigned to their duties by means of sacred lots, without regard to age or rank. Lots were drawn in the presence of King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the family leaders of the priests and the Levites.

The sacred lots (casting of lots) was done so that all quarrels and contentions might be prevented, and no man could be charged with partiality, nor could any say that they had wrong done them.

1 Timothy 5:21 says, “I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.”

God is No Respecter of Persons and neither should we be.

  5. 19 Each group carried out its appointed duties in the house of the Lord according to the procedures established by their ancestor Aaron in obedience to the commands of the Lord, the God of Israel. (NLT)

I’ve recently learned in one of my classes procedures and rules are not the same thing. Procedures are practiced routines for a body to practice and one day continue on their own, whereas rules is a list of do’s and don’ts. There’s an established order and way of serving God and it’s written for us in His word. The Bible and our elders exemplify it beautifully. For the next generation of young people, it’s not our job to “update” and modify but to continue following the set procedure before us.

  6. Assigning this many people their responsibilities could have caused confusion, discord, and chaos if they had not used Godly wisdom to bring order.

    1 Corinthians 14:40 KJV
Let all things be done decently and in order.

    1 Corinthians 14:33 KJV
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

  8. 19 These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.

God has always set an order of things. All throughout the Bible.
It is up to the leaders to do as the pastor leads them in order to do all God has commanded. If we are not faithful to the call that God sets and the order God has requested by being in obedience to our pastor and leadership then we have just caused a kink in the chain of command.
The chain will either have to be broken and the link taken out to be repaired or replaced. So we must do as the Lord commands! It’s really not difficult if you do it with your whole heart, soul and mind. God becomes the strength!

  9. 19 These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.
God has set a ordering and a plan of how he wants things done and who will do them in His word. We cannot disrupt the order of God but we must flow with it, find our place and embrace it!

  10. There are moments in my life that I think: I’m not important, or needed. Anyone can always take my place. I should just grab my things and run, anywhere. Run away from reality and live the way I want to live, no one would care.

But that way of thinking is the fear of what is to come and the fear of what if it doesn’t come.

    God saved me.
    God chose me.
    God called me.
Who am I not to do his work?

  11. 4 And there were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar, and thus were they divided.

  12. “Like the descendants of Aaron, they were assigned to their duties by means of sacred lots, without regard to age or rank. Lots were drawn in the presence of King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the family leaders of the priests and the Levites.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭24:31‬ ‭NLT‬‬

They all work together and had assigned task. It didn’t matter who was there longer or what position they had. The most important thing was that they were in the right place doing the right thing. My prayer is that we all find ourselves at the right place doing the right thing.

  13. ESTABLISHED ORDER

19 These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.

There an trend in society of unscripted order of authority in certain churches around the nation and most likely around the world. They arrive each not knowing who will teach, preach, sing or exhort of the things of GOD. Whoever has the strongest burden that day will be the minister. While this system presents a unique display of trust and yielding one to another. The system does not seem to present the biblical ESTABLISHED ORDER of GOD.

The eternal WORD of GOD identifies them in order from 1 to 23. We are wise to follow ESTABLISHED ORDER. Another term we may be more familiar with is DELEGATED AUTHORITY, which we witness in the New Testament.

JESUS likens ESTABLISHED ORDER to “GREAT FAITH”

Luke 7:7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.

I believe by operating in the Kingdom of GOD under the principal of ESTABLISHED ORDER we are expressing and demonstrating GREAT FAITH in GOD. We are making a commitment to commitment. Someone must accept responsibility and be accountable for what is happening in the Kingdom of GOD.

Are you following ESTABLISHED ORDER? Who has authority in your life? Not just lip service authority (you say someone has authority, but you get offended overtime they say no) or REAL AUTHORITY (you accept the direction given as a Direct ORDER from JESUS).

JESUS help me to maintain REAL AUTHORITY in my life to support ESTABLISHED ORDER in your Church.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  14. All tasks were assigned to the various groups by means of sacred lots so that no preference would be shown, for there were many qualified officials serving God in the sanctuary from among the descendants of both Eleazar and Ithamar.
    1 Chronicles 24:5 NLT

Like i said yesterday. There some in the church for everyone so we all can do something in the church that serving the lord

  15. 3 And David distributed them, both Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their offices in their service.

4 And there were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar, and thus were they divided. Among the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen chief men of the house of their fathers, and eight among the sons of Ithamar according to the house of their fathers.

  16. 19 These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.

Always has been, and always will have an order to things.

  17. The flow of leadership.

19 These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.

  18. 3 David, with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their offices for their assigned duties.

David was an example of a good leader. He divided them and assigned them to specific duties. This makes the team a great team, because everyone knows what the other is responsible for and what they need to do.

  19. 19 These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.
It tells us in this verse that they had order and that is why we have order in the church. we may not always understand the order of something that goes on at the church but that don’t give us the right to question our authority, we are to trust and believe. When we are gossiping, fighting with one another, we are not in order and we are causing division. It’s time to buckle the seat belt and get our Pastor and Sis Watts and follow their order. Not everyone has a man and woman of God in their lives that will pray and counsel you when you need it.

  20. “19 These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.”

When there is order there is progress. Thank God for order at the POFW! As long as we continue to follow in obedience of the order that is given to benefit our spiritual lives … we WILL impact our city whether the rest of world likes it or not. We dont do what God wants because we have to , we do it willingly which is why it is a blessing to be the child of the one true king who walks in victory day by day! Order brings humility! Order brings unity! Order brings discipline! Order will bring a church to its feet to stand and thrive to impact our cities like it’s never happened before!

  21. 1 Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron; Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

2 But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest’s office.

I was reminded of John 15:2 when reading this.

“Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.”

  22. 3 David, with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their offices for their assigned duties.

Even though they were divided they were in unity caring on their assigned duties. We are the body of Christ and we need one another. We all have different talents that are needed for the kingdom of God. Unity is so important…..We are going to reach this region and world with unity in prayer, fasting, reading the Word, and working together.

Every single job in His kingdom is important, so your age nor your “position” matters. You can still do great things in the Kingdom of God!

  24. iLove to Grow in the Word
5All tasks were assigned to the various groups by means of sacred lots so that no preference would be shown, for there were many qualified officials serving God in the sanctuary from among the descendants of both Eleazar and Ithamar. 6Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a Levite, acted as secretary and wrote down the names and assignments in the presence of the king, the officials, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the family leaders of the priests and Levites. The descendants of Eleazar and Ithamar took turns casting lots.

WOW, this is a 3500 year old Western Day planning session. Boom, God’s way is planning and organization. In the kingdom of God, things dont just happen by chance. We must follow the leadership and example of our pastor and strategically plan for success just as the priests followed their leadership.

  25. 31 These likewise cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers over against their younger brethren.

God always has a plan for everyone! Be involved, be available, there is always something for you to do just ask.

  26. 2 But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest’s office.

I have to wander, how many of our brothers and sisters have to die spiritually before we do something about it???

  27. 1 Chronicles 24:31 (NLT)
31 Like the descendants of Aaron, they were assigned to their duties by means of sacred lots, without regard to age or rank. Lots were drawn in the presence of King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the family leaders of the priests and the Levites.

Kingdom service is just that, service. We don’t always get to pick and choose what we do. Yes we can use our talents, and use our burden but many times we are to serve.

There is a difference between one who serves and a servant. A servant is always a servant and carries no preference as to what he will or won’t do.

Someone who serves does so opportunistically. Many times they jump in and do what is needed when others are watching.

True serving happens without any recognition.

  28. “These likewise cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers over against their younger brethren.” The word of Jesus (God & Judge) stated “likewise”. One must first consider who introduced the process and why. One should then consider the same today, who introduced the process and why. Dear God, open eyes and ears to deception and distraction. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  29. “These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.” The Lord commanded Aaron, which they were wise in following. We would also be wise, if we would but follow the Lord’s commandments, which are in his word. God help us comprehend and obey your word, in Jesus name

  30. Strange Fire!

2 But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest’s office.

    Leviticus 10
1 Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, contrary to his command. 2 So fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.

God is love, but he is also a consuming fire. The Word of God says, that obedience is better than sacrifice. 1 Samuel 15:22 Obey – The Biblical word for “obey” comes from the Greek “hupakou” which means to listen attentively; by implication to heed or conform to a command or authority. This word conveys the idea of actively following a command. There is no choice in the matter, it is to be done whether one agrees with it or not. Obedience is involuntary.

These two young men provoked God by going against there instruction and offering fire before God. It was there blatant disobedience brought judgement. Why did they do this? Why would we do similar things to this? Why do we let rebellion slip in? We are playing with Fire. No one is disqualified to fall to rebellion, even the preachers kids.

  31. 5 Thus were they divided by lot, one sort with another; for the governors of the sanctuary, and governors of the house of God, were of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar.

In order to get God’s business done it’s going to require work.

  32. Drawing lots is not like throwing dice other flipping a coin. It’s making a decision by believing God directs the results. This practice was used in many big decisions like when the promised land was divided into territories and when Saul was chosen king (1Sa 10:20-24), and when the tasks of the priests are assigned (1Ch 24:5). The last use of this method was in Acts 1:26 where they cast lots to chose who will replace Judas. One verse later the Holy Spirit is to dwell within them and the bible never records the use of them again. Today we have the privilege they didn’t to communicate directly with God through His Spirit living and working through us.

  33. 1 Corinthians 12:14 ESV For the body does not consist of one member but of many.

Everyone has a place. Some peoples place is on the front row in the spotlight. Others need to aim the spotlight. There are also others that need to change the bulb in the spotlight. Think for a moment how many people are needed for one person to stand in the spotlight; countless I would predict.

So, no matter where God has us right now, we must do our best.

  34. 19 These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.

Obedience and submission is what we see throughout the Word of God. The Word reads as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.. It comes from God but given by the leader and man of God. One would be wise to listen and obey

  35. 19Each group carried out its appointed duties in the house of the LORD according to the procedures established by their ancestor Aaron in obedience to the commands of the LORD, the God of Israel.

We can easily replace ‘group’ with the word ‘ministry’. Each ministry are responsible for carrying out their duties to the best of their abilities, lead by prayer and by God.

  36. 31 These likewise cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers over against their younger brethren.

  37. 1 Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron.

Sometimes we get comfortable in the position we have been holding and we get moved to another position. We get upset or we try to think why was I moved dos I do something wrong? The answer is simple, God wants us to be challenged, move out of our comfort zone, and learn new things. As a teacher I learned that the superintendent move me not only according to my abilities, nor the needs of the schools, but also to challenge me. He wanted me to learn how to stretch my tent, make room for more knowledge, be versatile, making myself more marketable in our line of work. It is the same way with God. If we do not stretch our tent we will not have room for the harvest. If we don’t learn new things we can not teach new things. If we are not versatile we will lose our new babes because we are unable to empathize with their needs and their questions. Next time our Pastor puts you on a new position REJOICE!!!! He is preparing you for what is to come.

  38. Nadab = “generous”
eldest son of Aaron by Elisheba; struck dead before the sanctuary in the wilderness for kindling the censers with strange fire

Abihu = “he is (my) father”
a son of Aaron destroyed for sacrificing strange fire to God

Don’t forget the costly price of offering strange fire.

  39. 19 These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.
