1 Chronicles 25

1 Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:

2 Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king.

3 Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the Lord.

4 Of Heman: the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth:

5 All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

7 So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the Lord, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.

8 And they cast lots, ward against ward, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.

9 Now the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph: the second to Gedaliah, who with his brethren and sons were twelve:

10 The third to Zaccur, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

11 The fourth to Izri, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

12 The fifth to Nethaniah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

13 The sixth to Bukkiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

14 The seventh to Jesharelah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

15 The eighth to Jeshaiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

16 The ninth to Mattaniah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

17 The tenth to Shimei, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

18 The eleventh to Azareel, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

19 The twelfth to Hashabiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

20 The thirteenth to Shubael, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

21 The fourteenth to Mattithiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

22 The fifteenth to Jeremoth, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

23 The sixteenth to Hananiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

24 The seventeenth to Joshbekashah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

25 The eighteenth to Hanani, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

26 The nineteenth to Mallothi, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

27 The twentieth to Eliathah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

28 The one and twentieth to Hothir, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

29 The two and twentieth to Giddalti, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

30 The three and twentieth to Mahazioth, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

31 The four and twentieth to Romamtiezer, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve.

  1. We see in this chapter that even in assigning the temple duties of the musicians, David asked the Lord what he wanted. The end of verse 8 CEV says “…….Everyone was responsible for something, whether young or old, teacher or student”. We all have a responsibility at POFW to do something. We need to be proactive and ask the Lord what He wants us to do.

  2. 1David and the army commanders then appointed men from the families of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun to proclaim God’s messages to the accompaniment of lyres, harps, and cymbals. Here is a list of their names and their work.

Even the military members were appointed to participate as musicians. In today’s military, each branch has their own musicians group to play solo, in band or orchestra. This shows that God’s hand is in all things.

  3. A symphony of Prophesy

    1 Chronicles 25

1 Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:

“.,, who should prophesy with harps…”

As musicians and singers we have the grand opportunity to prophesy to the dry bones of those we are ministering to and speak life. So, the Word can be planted within them and fall on good ferterlized ground.

  4. 3 From the sons of Jeduthun, there were Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six in all. They worked under the direction of their father, Jeduthun, who proclaimed God’s messages to the accompaniment of the lyre, offering thanks and praise to the Lord. (NLT)

“…who proclaimed God’s messages to the accompaniment of the lyre, offering thanks and praise to the Lord.” For those of us in music ministry, we’re not just singers or musicians, but if we’re truly and effectively working the ministry then the songs will proclaim God’s messages. That is, or should be, the goal of every ministry, to proclaim God’s messages.

  5. LEADERS IN WORSHIP

7 So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the Lord, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.
8 And they cast lots, ward against ward, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.

In WORSHIP to GOD there is no POSITION, POSSESSION or PREFERENCE. From 288 trained, qualified individuals there was selected an instructor or leader. While we are blessed with several trained, qualified individuals at The POFW we are not close to that number. I am however thankful for the diversity in those that lead WORSHIP unto the LORD.

However, to look deeper into the principal, everyone that is Born Again of Water and Spirit, young and old, small and great, teacher and scholar is qualified to lead in WORSHIP unto the LORD our GOD. We do not need a microphone or instrument to be LEADERS IN WORSHIP. Lead with and from our hearts. Others that are hungry for a divine, sincere relationship with JESUS our creator will follow to the Throne of GOD.

Lets GO LEAD in WORSHIP and GROW our influence in this world for the Kingdom of GOD.

  6. iLove to Grow in the Word
1 Chronicles 25:3 KJV Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD.

This scripture reminds me of the following scripture.
2 Kings 3:15 KJV But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.

This is the kind of Worship we desire, the kind that when we play the instruments are played, the hand of the Lord comes upon the musicians. WOW

  7. “Moreover, David and the commanders of the army selected for the [temple] service some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, who were to prophesy with lyres, harps, and cymbals. The list of the musicians who performed their service was as follows:”
    ‭‭1 CHRONICLES‬ ‭25:1‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“All these men were under the direction of their fathers as they made music at the house of the LORD. Their responsibilities included the playing of cymbals, harps, and lyres at the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman reported directly to the king. They and their families were all trained in making music before the LORD, and each of them—288 in all—was an accomplished musician.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭25:6-7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Music Ministry has a great responsibility. We must be skilled, trained and under the direction of our leader. Lord I pray our music ministry will one day be 288. And we would be accomplished musicians submitted and under the direction of our leader.

  8. The musicians were appointed to their term of service by means of sacred lots, without regard to whether they were young or old, teacher or student.
    1 Chronicles 25:8 NLT

The good about working for the kingdom. There is no Retirement System. So there no limit you can be young or old and still serve lord There something in the church for everyone that you can do to glorify the Lord young or old you can still server the lord

  9. 5 All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

  10. 8 And they cast lots, ward against ward, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.
This verse shows the organization and structure that David used in the kingdom. Everyone from the old to the young from the teacher to the student had a specific job to do and we’re assigned their duties. In the kingdom we all have something we can contribute and should be willing to put our hands to the plow and push.

  11. 12’s, 12’s and 12’s everywhere.

Numbers have meaning to God and often certain numbers have special meaning. What is so special about 12?

The number twelve seems to be very important to God and it represents, in most cases, the number of perfection and authority. There were 12 tribes in Israel and this symbolizes the completeness of the nation Israel. Jacob had 12 sons which were the heads of each of the 12 tribes of Israel.

  12. 6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

They were able to minister in songs because they had been given authority by their fathers and appointed to the task of service for the house of the Lord.

If we are not in submission and under authority, we will never be anointed to minister in music in the house of the Lord.

  13. 1 Chronicles 25:1 (KJV) – “MOREOVER David and the captains of the host seperated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:”
1 Chronicles 25:1 (NLT) – “David and the army commanders then appointed men from the families of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun to proclaim God’s messages to the accompaniment of lyres, harps, and cymbals. Her is a list of their names and their work:”

The praise singers and musicians are not standing on the platform just to look pretty or sound good. They are their to “prophesy” and “proclaim God’s messages.” (There is a message in the words that they are singing.)

Pray for Sis. Watts and the Music Ministry that God’s anointing would be upon them as they minister.

  14. 1 Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:

A family of musicians, singers, able to take their talents and use them for the glory of God.

  15. All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

They were under one leader to serve in the house of God. We know all things must be done decently and in order, which by submitting to it, we find our anointing.

  16. 5.All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

    1 Samuel 2:1
And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

  17. 5 All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

  18. 1 Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:

2 Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king.

We must be spiritually prepared to serve at all times.

  19. 6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

7 So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the Lord, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.

8 And they cast lots, ward against ward, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.

  20. 1 Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:

The praise and worship ministry its not just music to make it sound better but it is direct preaching trhough song and prophesy.. Songs like in Jesus name” speak life to dead bones..

  21. 1 Chronicles 25:8 (NLT)
8 The musicians were appointed to their term of service by means of sacred lots, without regard to whether they were young or old, teacher or student.

We were all created to worship God and to give him glory. It doesn’t matter how old or young we are. We are all responsible for doing what God made us to do. We are never more complete than we are when we are fulfilling our life’s purpose.

  22. And they cast lots, ward against ward, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.

God is worthy of all praise it doesn’t matter what position we hold. GOD has created us to praise him with our whole hearts minds and streghth!

  23. A song of prophesie

    1. Childhood songs implant the first seeds of good.

    2. Rhyme bears direct relation to memory, and materially aids the retention of good sentiments and thoughts.

    3. Music has a soothing power, as seen in King Saul; and often becomes a moral preparation for the due reception of instruction in the milder aspects of truth and the gentler forms of duty.

    4. Music often finds relieving expression for emotions, either of joy or of sorrow, which are too intense for language.

    From online recourse.

I thought this was interesting that a song could
Speak into your life just like the word of a prophesie.
This is why it is so important to make sure we are listening to good music that invites the spirit of the Lord in. Otherwise we are opening up ourselves to anything. When a song prophesies to you that means what ever it says will be your destiny. Truly scary if your listening to the wrong thing. Put good in and get good out.

  24. “These likewise cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers over against their younger brethren.” The word of Jesus (God & Judge) stated “likewise”. One must first consider who introduced the process and why. One should then consider the same today, who introduced the process and why. Dear God, open eyes and ears to deception and distraction. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  25. “These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the Lord, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.” The Lord commanded Aaron, which they were wise in following. We would also be wise, if we would but follow the Lord’s commandments, which are in his word. God help us comprehend and obey your word, in Jesus name.

  26. 7 So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the Lord, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.

Cunning – Wise or skillful. To be cunning in the playing of an instrument, was to an extent be a master musician. David was cunning at playing the harp. His skill and anointing combined produced a devil rebuking sound that brought peace to the evil heart of Saul.

No one in that day, played to just be a normal player. You either had it or not. No one had the luxury of just having a useless skill. If we could just apply this to our music department, what kind of an impact would it have on our church service?

  27. “All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭25:6‬ ‭KJV

They were all “under the hands of their father.” This means they were submitted. Even though all of them were talented, they were still submitted.

  28. 2 Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king.

David did the will of God.

  29. Worship is a big deal. Leading worship is too. Musicians would lead the congregation with worship. May those of us in music ministry get our heads out of the sands of complacency and take it serious. It begins with us.

  30. 5 All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

It’s not often that daughters are mentioned much less along with the recording of their brothers. Even though they don’t give names of the daughters we see here is that they served the Lord by praising him with song and instruments. He gave order to who and how they were to serve. It’s evident that God called men and women alike to serve him and praise him from this account.

  31. 1 Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:

God intends for their to be order in the way we praise. He knows what talents and treasures he has given us to use for his glory. David begins to separate them by those services. To keep order everyone has a role and no one is greater than the other but all are orchestrated to work together in perfected harmony and unity.

  32. 6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

7 So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the Lord, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.

Oh what a blessing that will be when our Music department have so many willing and able to Praise our Lord without lacking anything!!! My sweet Sis Watts will be doing cart wheels of joy!!! Lord bless our music department and may it Grow greatly for your Honor and Glory for ever In Jesus Name Amen

  33. 6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.
