1 Chronicles 27

1 Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.

2 Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

3 Of the children of Perez was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.

4 And over the course of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and of his course was Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise were twenty and four thousand.

5 The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

6 This is that Benaiah, who was mighty among the thirty, and above the thirty: and in his course was Ammizabad his son.

7 The fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

8 The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

9 The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

10 The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

11 The eighth captain for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

12 The ninth captain for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anetothite, of the Benjamites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

13 The tenth captain for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

14 The eleventh captain for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

15 The twelfth captain for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

16 Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: the ruler of the Reubenites was Eliezer the son of Zichri: of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maachah:

17 Of the Levites, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel: of the Aaronites, Zadok:

18 Of Judah, Elihu, one of the brethren of David: of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael:

19 Of Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah: of Naphtali, Jerimoth the son of Azriel:

20 Of the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah: of the half tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah:

21 Of the half tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah: of Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner:

22 Of Dan, Azareel the son of Jeroham. These were the princes of the tribes of Israel.

23 But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the Lord had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.

24 Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.

25 And over the king’s treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jehonathan the son of Uzziah:

26 And over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub:

27 And over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite: over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite:

28 And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baalhanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:

29 And over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai:

30 Over the camels also was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite:

31 And over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagerite. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David’s.

32 Also Jonathan David’s uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons:

33 And Ahithophel was the king’s counsellor: and Hushai the Archite was the king’s companion:

34 And after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the general of the king’s army was Joab.

  1. No appointment was too small. Someone was appointed caretaker of the olive and sycamore trees just like the treasures of David. No ministry opportunity in the Kingdom of God is too small. If we are too “big” to do the small things we need to repent of pride.

  2. PROTECT THE OIL

28 And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baalhanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:

The name Joash means “Jehovah hastens”.

Joash was called to protect the cellars of oil. Oil is a type of the Holy Spirit or the Anointing. “Jehovah Hastens” was the protector of the cellars of oil indicates that JESUS will hurry to protect our oil or HIS SPIRIT in us.

We are wise to establish a protector of the cellars of oil in our lives. What and Who do we have in place to be over the cellars of oil in our life.

Keep the oil, the keeps the fire.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  3. From commanders, chief officers, overseers to counselors; they all had a job to do. We too, POFW, all have a job to do from leaders, ministers, teachers to elders. We all have to be willing to do our job in the kingdom to the best of our ability and let the Lord guide us in His will. For every assignment is important, every job is linked and every victory will be ours in Jesus name.

  4. 32 Also Jonathan David’s uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons:

An uncle with wisdom ,listening skills and a writer. There is a place for everyone. I believe POFW proves this. When reading this passage my mind went to the story of a great great uncle I never met. My dad told me the story of how this uncle road a mule across the mountain to bring baptism in Jesus name to the small town of Castlewood Virginia. The town my dad grew up in. Because of that Uncle my dad preached the gospel of Jesus Christ to the mountain people he lobed so much til the day he died.

  5. 28 And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baalhanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:
Every responsibility in the kingdom is important everyone has a role. Fulfill your role with passion and ferveny and they watch how God will grow your ministry more and more.

  6. iLove to Grow in the Word
1 Chronicles 27:1 NLT This is the list of Israelite generals and captains, and their officers, who served the king by supervising the army divisions that were on duty each month of the year. Each division served for one month and had 24,000 troops.

We see throughout this chapter the principles of structure and systems. David ruled the kingdom successfully through the principles of being organized and accountable. There was a system and leader of that system in all the important aspects of the kingdom.

Why do we expect less of the Kingdom of God? David’s example is a great one to follow even in the church today.

  7. Although there should be no vacancies, there is always room for improvement, therefore always room to serve in the KINGDOM OF GOD!!! No matter what “the level” may be there is always room for improvement and whatever”level” or “position” it may be, is important!!!

  8. We Are NOT Alone! We see the list of military commanders, the divisions, the leaders of the tribes, and the officials – there is a place for each and everyone of us!

  9. As we continue to read. It hit me that everyone has a job to do. In the kingdom and in real life. The problem with our world is that we are a lazy people. If you really think about it. Our “progress” only has to do with us being lazy. The majority of products out on the market is to save us time. True we can get alot more accomplished. But at what cost. Family, friends, loved ones. Who takes the brunt of our so called progressive life style? Now lets take that into the church. We say let’s have prayer for 30min, 3-4 songs, offering, preaching for 30-45 min, alter call, Go home. What happened? What happened? In our own church. We used to have time for prayer that when we got in there that the fire of God fell. That people received the Holy Ghost in a prayer service before service. That we would have to help each other get out of the prayer room because the spirit moved that strongly. What happened to the song service where. People who were addicted to drugs and other things, put those things on an alter and gave it up to be delivered. Where hearings took place at the alter while we worshiped God. What happened to the offering when everyone would get up and give something, anything. What happened to those times that we yelled at pastor to keep preaching after his timer went off. And for the next 30-45 min he would preach the absolute word of God. Lives were being changed, families being brought back together, hearts being mended. What happened? Have we gotten so used to the schedule that we forget to schedule God into it? The point is this. We all have a job to do, yes. But at what cost? What cost to the free flowing ,moving of the Spirit of God Almighty? What’s your job.

  10. 23 But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the Lord had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.

    Believe in the increase!

If you remember in a earlier chapter, David made the mistake of taking a census of Israel and because of that an angel of death was sent to Israel and killed many people. This time David learned from his mistake and he relied on God for his increase. In our lives, sometimes we need to stop taking a census, aka taking a stock of what we have and what we don’t have, and trust that God is gonna provide for us. And when we sacrificially give to his kingdom, God will give us increase in our lives!

  11. As Bro. Cornwell instilled in me, “There is room in the house of God for everybody!” And everybody has purpose and has opportunity to serve the Lord. No matter the responsibility, you are important to God and His kingdom!

  12. Fruit and more fruit

27 And over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite: over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite: 28 And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baalhanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:

Vineyards, as we all know produce fruit; grapes. These can be consumed as they are; grapes, or they can be worked into a more valuable commodity; wine. The same goes for olives. They can be consumed immediately (best on pizza) or they can be worked into a more valuable commodity; olive oil – not Popeye’s girlfriend.

Most believe that oil is a type and shadow of anointing. Others believe wine represents the Holy Ghost as referenced in Mathew 9:17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles… I am more drawn to Joash and his duties as keeping/watching the oil. First, as I mentioned above, oil was a commodity in that day. It was used as fuel for light as well as religious events. So, in essence, Joash was in charge of the fuel that kept the lights on.

Apparently, olive oil was kept in cellars; dark, damp, lonely cellars. So, the duty of a keeper was not one of spotlights and front row adulation. Rather; unnoticed, uncomfortable and likely unappreciated. No matter what our calling is or what duty we are asked to do; likely there will be parts of our duty that are unnoticed, uncomfortable and unappreciated – except by those who have also done these duties. So, wherever and whatever you are doing to the Kingdom – do your best. Your efforts may go unnoticed and unappreciated by most but those who know – know your efforts. Best of all – God knows your efforts.

  13. As i read the last 15 chapter there were leard of Israel and they all Took part of some they were In Charge of this certain things. I believe if they didn’t does this it will be out of order.

As leaders we all take a part of something in the church if we don’t live up to our commitments that we made we are out of order

  14. Everyone had an opportunity to serve in the kingdom. And it is the same in God’s kingdom. We must look into the kingdom and see what we best fit. Allow God to lead us to that place.

  15. 1 Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.

  16. Today, I thought about all the Positions named in this chapter and all the Leaders named to fulfill those Positions.

Then I thought about all the Ministries at POFW and all the Leaders who are over those Ministries and all the Team Members who are involved in those Ministries.

Thank You JESUS that we all can serve in your kingdom.

A word of encouragement today for every Labourer in the kingdom of God.
1 Cor. 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
Heb. 6:10, “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”

  17. 28 And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baalhanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:

It doesn’t matter what job you have as long as you do with all your might and to the best of your ability. This is why we have jobs at the church so everyone can be involved. It’s like working your real job if you don’t do your best and do it right, do you think your boss would approve of the work? Same thing working in the kingdom of God, God expects us to do our work right and to the best of our ability.

  18. As I’ve read these few chapters … it’s come to my attention about the importance of doing your job or “standing your post”. Many people now a days do not see the importance of fulfilling your part for the purpose of a united church. One must understand that the importance of doing your part for the kingdom is just as important as having a PERSONAL relationship with God. For example as the cross is both vertical and horizontal … vertically we stand before God seeking a relationship with the almighty … horizontally we see life with our physical eyes but forget who we are connected to vertically and FORGET the sacrifice ! Don’t allow struggles, trials, or tribulations stop you from doing YOUR PART! You STAND your ground because the MOMENT you do then that’s when the devil begins to realize who he’s messing with and who you actually belong to! Don’t forcus on the pain that comes , FOCUS on the promised VICTORY that IS TO COME!

  19. 23 But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the Lord had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.

Our focus should be on the youth. We need to instruct them and guide them. They’re the next generation after us that will take over to spread the word of God.

  20. 23 But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the Lord had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.

Looking forward to that increase for the POFW. God’s got a blessing with our name on it.

  21. 1 Chronicles 27:15 (NLT)
15 Heled, a descendant of Othniel from Netophah, was commander of the twelfth division of 24,000 troops, which was on duty during the twelfth month.

One leader was over 24,000 people for one month. The next month a different leader was over a different group of 24,000 people.

The principle is this. If everyone wars when they are supposed to the enemy is subdued and people won’t have to fight as much.

The more we pray the less he can fight because there are more with us than with him.

  22. 1This is the list of Israelite generals and captains,a and their officers, who served the king by supervising the army divisions that were on duty each month of the year. Each division served for one month and had 24,000 troops.

As the these military men they were all trained, disciplined and ready for battle. Each one of us should also be ready to do battle against satan. Lets put on our armor and be prepared at all times.

  23. Every one had a place and duty to take care and oversee their labor or ministry in the kingdom. This just reminded me of pastor’s charge stay in your post.. We make a difference and no misnistry is too small for God.

  24. “Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.” The word of God (Jesus) declares wrath fell. What may seem acceptable to man, is not always acceptable with God (Judge). Dear God, let our ways be acceptable with you, and let our actions cost us and not another. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  25. “Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.” All was distributed and shared, which afforded them all with time for their families and personal matters. Everything should have a balance for if there is not, then there will be an unbalance somewhere. God help us both do and balance in a manner that pleases you, in Jesus name.

  26. We all have a place in the Kingdom and with it comes responsibility. It should be our pleasure to fill the task that has been placed before us.

  27. Everyone can be envolved in church there is room and work for everyone to do. It doesnt matter what age you are! Everyone can do something!

  28. Overseers of David’s Substance

1 Chronicles 27:23 But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the Lord had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.

Genesis 12:2 I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

The whole chapter reminds me of POFW, We train and send everyone on their post for battle. REVIVAL IS HERE!!
Everyone has opportunity to serve in God’s kingdom

  29. One of the most memorable messages I’ve ever heard was preached on this passage by Brother Limones.

28 And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baalhanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:

“The keepers of the oil ”

Joash was a mighty man of God and he was there through all the battles and hardships that Davids men had gone through. He was there in the defeats and in the victories. Joash was there when they had conquered and he now was in line to learn the position that he had been awarded. The names started to be called and David started with the most prominent positions first. He started down the line one after the other and Joash was on the edge of his seat the whole time. He kept thinking it’s my turn next and the positions kept passing him by. David is getting close to the end now and there is not much more room in the elite group close to the top of the chain of command. It is inching closer and closer to the seemingly unimportant positions and Joash is getting nervous. Now all the good positions are gone but now his name is called. The humble position of keeper of the cellars of oil. Now e is in his humble position stacking the barrels of oil one after the other after the other. He is stacking them and one day he is putting one way up at the top and it spills a little out on his head. He goes home that night after his days work and his family notices something different about him. They can’t quite put their finger on what it is but something is definatly different. He goes back into his cellar the next morning and he looks around and it is as if the cellar had more light in it than yesterday. It’s brighter and just feels different. He starts to do his daily task again and he notices himself more joyful, this isn’t so bad after all. Next thing you know he finds a barrel with a leak again and this time he gets the oil all over his hands. He gets the mess cleaned up right before he goes home for the night. When he’s at home he sits down to pray with the family before their evening meal and he joins hands with the rest of his family and they pray, just then they all notice something different again, something joyful and pleasant but they cannot put their finger on what is different. Soon the cellars are filling up with oil and Joash needs some help keeping up with it all so his family comes down to the cellar with him. Now they are all putting the barrels of oil up. Joash and his wife are working side by side and they realize the unexplainable joy again. They are laughing and having a good time just making a days work when they go to put one of the barrels all the way at the top and it burst right on their heads. It runs down their faces and soaks their clothes all the way to their feet. They are covered in this oil. Theu go home to change their clothes and as they walk the look around and the whole world looks different. They see things they have never seen before on the same walk home as every day. They get home
And home is this way too. Everything is just so unexplainably blessed. The next morning they are at work again and Joash is cleaning up the. Remaining mess from yesterday and his wife looks over at him sees and suddenly she gets it. This is the anointing pile. She asks him for help putting another barren at the very top and they start to lift it together. When they get it almost to the top his wife pulls the plug and they are drenched again. He looks over at her knowing they she had done it on purpose and suddenly it hits him. He was in the best position in the whole army, he was continually annointed. No matter what you title is in the kingdom of
God, if you are anointed you will be in the greatest position.

  30. There was always order in the kingdom of David. Everyone have a place to serve him, everyone had a plays to their responsibility. It is our jobs as leaders to delegate the responsibility two people that have the desire to serve. But not just to delegate the position but to equip them and teach them how to do the job with excellence.
This is what is going to separate us from all the other churches, everyone standing at their post doing their job to the best of their ability for the benefit of all the unbelievers but choose to worship with us.
God is in the business of saving people, that should be our business to not hinder his purpose.

  31. 23 But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the Lord had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.

Jesus is faithful and will never promise us something and not fulfill it. Even if promises might seem impossible to us, it’s a PROMISE that will be fulfilled. Never give up on the promises of the Lord. Jesus will never let us down!!!!!

  32. Here we see David’s stubborn determination to count his troops and God’s vehement response. Previously God has commanded census taking (Numbers 1:1-3). So why is it now considered a sinful thing? These verses help settle the confusion. David only numbers the fighting men. He doesn’t take a total census but insists on only counting his soldiers, showing that perhaps David’s victories have caused him to trust in his armies strength rather than the power of God. He once said in Ps 20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” Afterward, David realizes his sinful thinking and repents. Today we may not have men to count or horses or chariots to depend on, but, like David we all have times when we trust in ourselves instead of God’s power. However, David’s repentant response can be a valuable lesson to us all.

  33. This chapter lays out more of the organizational duties and those who upheld them. What was once a bunch of renegade refugees from Egypt had now become a organized systematic kingdom.

  34. “Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭27:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

When we don’t ask God before we do something we are not always in his will. He will let us know when things are not the way He wants them. Something’s it’s with rebukes, other things it’s with hardships. When these things begin to occur, we need to ask God to see if our actions have caused the wrath to fall. Then change what we are doing and ask God to stop the wrath.

  35. 1 Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.
