2 Chronicles 6

1 Then said Solomon, The Lord hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

2 But I have built an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for ever.

3 And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.

4 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,

5 Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:

6 But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

7 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

8 But the Lord said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:

9 Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.

10 The Lord therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built the house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

11 And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, that he made with the children of Israel.

12 And he stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:

13 For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven.

14 And said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:

15 Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.

16 Now therefore, O Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.

17 Now then, O Lord God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou hast spoken unto thy servant David.

18 But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!

19 Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:

20 That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.

21 Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest, forgive.

22 If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;

23 Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by recompensing his way upon his own head; and by justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.

24 And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; and shall return and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house;

25 Then hear thou from the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.

26 When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;

27 Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.

28 If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillers; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness there be:

29 Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:

30 Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)

31 That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

32 Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;

33 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

34 If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;

35 Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

36 If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;

37 Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;

38 If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:

39 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.

40 Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

41 Now therefore arise, O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

42 O Lord God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant.

  1. Verses 39-40 MSG “Listen from your home in heaven to their prayers desperate and devout; Do what is best for them. Forgive your people who have sinned against you. And now, dear God, be alert and attentive to prayer, all prayer, offered in this place.” Same verses NLT “then hear their prayers and their petitions from heaven where you live, and uphold their cause. Forgive your people who have sinned against you. “O my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to all the prayers made to you in this place.” This reminds me of what we learned in Sunday School this past Sunday, how the Lord heard one man’s prayers in Exodus 32. Our prayers do matter and the Lord does hear them.

  2. 18. But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!

    How humbling it is that heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him, and He could easily command that another magnificent temple be built for Him, yet He chooses to live in us!

  3. 20 That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.

    Let us also let our eyes be open to the house of God, let us open our eyes to prayer that we may seek to pray to you more than ever before and that we may seek your face more than before!

  4. If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near; Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly; If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
    2 Chronicles 6:36‭-‬38 KJV
    http://bible.com/1/2ch.6.36-38.KJV

    To sin without repentance is to “live” in bondage, which isn’t living at all.

    Romans 6:23 KJV For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  5. 14 He prayed, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven and earth. You keep your covenant and show unfailing love to all who walk before you in wholehearted devotion. (NLT)

    My God never fails and He is always true to His word. Hallelujah, all we have to do is keep His covenenant and be wholeheartedly devoted to the work of His kingdom.

  6. 18 But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!

    All too often we put God in a box. We formulate how to get certain responses out of Him. Today, let’s take the box off of Jesus and see what He has in store for us. Today let’s see how He IS using us.

  7. 26 When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;

    27 Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.
    Solomon prayed a prayer of protection and provision over God’s people. Solomon wanted to make sure that no matter were they may be or what they may be doing when the people sought God’s mercy that it would be there for them. I’m thankful to know that no matter where we are and what we might be doing we have an advocate with the father Jesus Christ the righteous that if we sin he will forgive us of our sins if we confess them and forsake them

  8. ANOINTED TO IMPACT NOT IMPRESS

    We live in a sensual society. Seekers of pleasure, seekers of recognition, seekers of riches. However, revelation here in this passage promises all GOD has to offer and much more. The MERCIES of David and the face of GOD.

    ANOINTED – 1. To apply oil, ointment, or a similar substance to.
    2. To put oil on during a religious ceremony as a sign of sanctification or consecration.
    3. To choose by or as if by divine intervention.

    The figurative use of this word (chrio) has reference strictly to the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the individual (Luke 4:18 Acts 4:27; Acts 10:38). In this sense it is God who anoints (Hebrews 1:9 2 Corinthians 1:21). The thought is to appoint, or qualify for a special dignity, function or privilege. It is in this sense that the word is applied to Christ (John 1:41 m; Acts 4:27; Acts 10:38 Hebrews 1:9; compare Psalm 2:2 Daniel 9:25).

    ANOINTED means chosen or touched (hand picked by GOD) for his service.

    The prayer of Solomon before the ARK of GOD and before the people is for GOD to keep his face toward the anointed and to judge or rule in Mercy.

    Remember only GOD can chose us to be HIS anointed. We can and should be anointed by our Elders, to cover and pray over, however this anointing comes with a “crushing” of the olives, not just the skin of the olive, but the oil is in the protected seed. This is why so many lose out in the anointing process, the crushing is confusing if we are seeking to IMPRESS and not IMPACT.

    JESUS help us today to seek your presence and power through your call to be ANOINTED.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive

  9. 40 Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

    Turn not away. Many times we give up on people. Because they hurt us. What about God? His own creation denies him on a daily basis.yet he loved us so, that he came down and died for you and me. Oh how precious is the blood of Jesus.

  10. iLove to Grow in the Word

    Wow, what a beautiful chapter. So full of hope and full of promises from the Lord.

    Solomon shows his wisdom that he received from the Lord by revealing that God is the only one that really knows the heart. As a matter of fact, this would be a good prayer to pray over The Pentecostals of Fort Worth. So many times we try to fix situations when we dont know the true intent of the heart. But God knows. Thanks Solomon for a great intro to prayer.

  11. v17 ” Now then, O LORD God of Israel , let Your word come true, which You have spoken to Your servant David.
    Praise GOD the sovereign LORD’S WORDS are always yes and amen!
    GOD promised to make a lasting reign from David’s linage that would prevail until the end of time.
    JESUS was the fulfilment of this conventional promise . As we see in Acts 2:36

    The GREATEST RULERof mankind is JESUS CHRIST our LORD.
    KING of kings and LORD of lords!

  12. In this chapter today Solomon is praying for his people very strong
    Praying that they will forgive other thank u Jesus for u grace

  13. Love for People

    32 Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;

    33 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

    Not only did Solomon call out to God for Isreal but he called out to God for the stranger who would enter the temple of Giod. I pray we do not get so wrapped in self trying to maintain a walk with Giod that we forget those “strangers we walk amongst daily”. God I cry out to you for those who do not know You . Those who don’t know your power and your truth. Those who come into POFW and say I don’t know what to do….if they have never been in an Apostolic atmosphere we cannot expect them to even know the first thing about coming to Giod we must lead them to You. Help us to be focused on the stranger In Jesus name. We can lead them, we must lead them lest they be lost standing in the temple. In Jesus name.

  14. 14 And said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:

  15. 34 “When your people go to war against their enemies, wherever you send them, and when they pray to you toward this city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name, 35 then hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause.

    What a beautiful prayer…..every single one of us is in a war with the enemies. Not just one enemy but enemies. Enemies that come in groups to try to tear us apart, but this is why we made a covenant to the Lord to pray, fast, blog, study, do outreach, sacrifice, give, support, etc. So that we can be strong spiritually and not be like the waves when a trial comes. In order to have a relationship with God we must work every day in keeping that relationship with Him. If we would make up in our minds that we are in a war and in a war someone gotta win. Is it going to be you or the enemies? My daily prayer is that we would give ourselves completely 100% to God. Go the extra mile to do Gods kingdom. If 100+ people would come to outreach every weekend. We would be working in phase 2 already, if we would all fast weekly we woul have the flesh under control, if we woud read his Word n pray everyday we would pass every test. Jesus help us father see the vision to reach this CITY!!!!!!. Put on your armor and WIN!!!! The devil is under our feet!!!!!!

  16. 14 And said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:

    There’s NO God like my God!! 🎵🎵

  17. What a great way to start a prayer:
    14 … O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants…

    Sometimes we can get lost in our needs and come to God and start proclaiming how lonely, lost, broken and poor we are. We hit our knees and start listing the thing He needs to do in our lives without so much as a “Hey God, how are you?” We have the right to approach the throne boldly but we still need to approach with respect. Today, when we pray, let’s start this way. Compliment God. Tell Him how good He has been to us and wonderful it is to be His children. We might find our relationship with Him will improve and our prayers will likely grow in fervency.

  18. 2 Chronicles 6:12 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands. Now he had made a bronze platform 5 cubits long five cubits wife and three cubed high and had placed it in the center of the outer court. He stood on the platform and then kneel down before the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven. He said Lord the God of Israel there is no God like you in heaven or on earth you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way. You have kept your promise to your servant David my father with your mouth you have promised and with your hands you have fulfilled it as it is today.

  19. 40 Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

    Solomon prayed for every fault in man that he could think of and asked God to hear when repentance was made whether it was individually or as a people. But most importantly to me is that he asked God to remember the mercies of David. We know David was a man after God’s own heart, but he also sinned. He was quick to repent when his sin was revealed to him. So as we live for God today and falter or fall, we must know that God will forgive, renew our minds and restore. We must be willing to forgive others and bare our faults to Him in repentance because he is able to keep us!

  20. 2 Chronicles 6:20-21 & 40 (NLT)
    20) May you watch over this Temple day and night, this place where you have said you would put your name.
    21) May you hear the humble and earnest requests from me and your people Israel when we pray toward this place. Yes, hear us, from heaven where you live, and when you hear, forgive.
    40) O my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to all the prayers made to you in this place.

    May God watch over POFW day and night, the place where He has put His Name, and May God hear and be attentive to all the prayers made to Him at POFW.

  21. 8 But the Lord said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:

    God knows the intents of our heart. The Lord knew David intended to build the sanctuary for His presence to dwell, and the Lord also knew that when told no by the Lord, that David would do what he could as a leader, to see that Solomon, the next king would be successful in accomplishing the vision.

    This is a great test for leaders. Are you a “Kingdom” person or a “self” person. If it’s about the kingdom whether you receive recognition or not, it will get accomplished. If its about you receiving the glory then God may have to tell you NO because He will not share HIS glory with another.

  22. 2 Now I have built a glorious Temple for you, a place where you can live forever!”

    We too should guard our temple, our hearts, mind and body. Our God, should live in us forever. Lets build that temple in our hearts, and not allow anything to destroy it.

  23. 2 Chronicles 6:38 If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
    v.39 Then hear thou from the heavens,even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.

    Revival itself is rooted in prayer. The promise for revival for a dead and backward people of God actually comes from God answering a worshipper’s prayer for the promise.

    We need to repentance and forgiveness

  24. 18 But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!

  25. 14 And said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:

    There ais no God like our God! He is the one and Mighty powerful God and his name is Jesus ! There is healing and victory in the name of Jesus!

  26. 2 Chronicles 6:23 (NLT)
    23 then hear from heaven and judge between your servants—the accuser and the accused. Pay back the guilty as they deserve. Acquit the innocent because of their innocence.

    God cares what we go through and cares about justice. Even though it may seem that the wicked are getting away with things the truth is that God knows and his lack of judgment is a show of mercy. He loves them just as much as he loves us.

  27. “For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven.” The word of God (Judge) identified the king’s actions. Solomon was not the priest he was however the king (leader/ruler) therefore he was responsible for leading the way. Dear God, bless us with leaders/rulers that are not deceptive, and that reverence you. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  28. “If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name”. The prayer of Solomon has come to pass, and more than once. All have a choice, which our choices also have blessings or consequences; therefore we should be mindful of self. Additionally we should ask the Lord too search and cleanse our hearts. God help us to see self as you do, in Jesus name.

  29. 40 Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

    It is imperative not to be dismayed on the things that attempt to hold us captive, even if it by our own will and shortcomings that we fall into prey. A longing and heart felt prayer is all it takes to hold the Lords attention to our cry and be rescued from our impending doom. The very grace of God is so easily accessible, when we feel we are miles away from God through the rough terrain we tread on, we are but the mere mention of his name away. Just a prayer away from turning things around in favor of the Lord.

  30. ds in this house:

    30 Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)

    The Lord knows the intents of the heart. Pray for your hearts and guard them as we are advised from proverbs.

  31. 2 Chronicles 6:38-39 If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name: Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.

    It’s a comfort to know that if as his children fail God but turn from our ways and turn to God with all of our heart and soul he will hear our supplication and forgive our sin.
    God is a righteous God, if we repent, He is faithful and just to forgive our sin. And because he is righteous, he will punish sin,

  32. 1 Then said Solomon, The Lord hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

    Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  33. I can’t help but notice that Solomon did not pray for himself but for his people continually. God will show up when you start praying for someone else m.

  34. 15 Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.

    It’s God that will fulfill His purpose through us so in the end He gets the glory.

  35. This prayer gives a good example of prayers in the Ancient near eastern cultures. Solomon intercedes on behalf of the people and asks God’s forgiveness and mercy on the nation. Likewise, we should do the same for the USA.

  36. The Lord never backs out of promises He makes to His people and neither should we. He remembers all that He promises but we often seem to fall short of accomplishing ours. This is not us failing, this is us being human. God is loving and forgiving, if you fall short of accomplishing your promises then get up and try again.

  37. “”But will you really live on earth with human beings? After all, the heavens can’t hold you. In fact, even the highest heavens can’t hold you. So this temple I’ve built certainly can’t hold you!”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭6:18‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

    What a privilege to know that our bodies are the temple of God.

    “Don’t you know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit? The Spirit is in you. You have received him from God. You do not belong to yourselves. Christ has paid the price for you. So use your bodies in a way that honors God.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:19-20‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

  38. Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel. But the Lord said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:
    2 Chronicles 6:7‭-‬8 KJV
    http://bible.com/1/2ch.6.7-8.KJV

    Never stop dreaming or telling others about your dream because you can make an impact in others lives and if you don’t live long enough to accomplish that dream some one who you made an impact in will get your dream and accomplish it.

  39. One phrase Solomon makes is that the people are to pray facing in the direction of the temple. The Israelite people take these words literally. While in captivity in Babylon, Daniel prays toward Jerusalem (Da 6:10). Today Jews visit the temple Wailing Wall (which is the only piece of the temple wall left standing) and pray facing it. The temple and the ark it is constructed to hold provide the Israelites with symbols of God’s presence among them (Ex 25:21-22; 2Ch 7:16). When they pray toward the temple, it helps them focus on the one true God. Since our God is everywhere, when we worship him we do so corporately in the church and indivually at home,work etc. We pray for Jerusalem, but we aren’t restricted to a certain direction but unto God.

  40. 14 And said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:

    There is only one true God.
