2 Chronicles 11

1 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

2 But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

3 Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

4 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

5 And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

6 He built even Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

7 And Bethzur, and Shoco, and Adullam,

8 And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

9 And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

10 And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.

11 And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.

12 And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

13 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.

14 For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the Lord:

15 And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.

16 And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord God of their fathers.

17 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

18 And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

19 Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.

20 And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

21 And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)

22 And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.

23 And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.

  1. 16 And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord God of their fathers.

17 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

If you deal with the heart of the matter ,you will strengthen the kingdom.

    Prov. 23:10- 12
Remove not the old landmark and enter not into the fields of the fatherless for their redeemer is mighty and he shall plead their cause with thee.
Apply thine heart unto instruction and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

  2. 11 And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.

12 And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

Rehoboam made every city exceedingly strong by arming them with the proper defensive and offensive weapons and walked with Judah and Benjamin on his side. Judah means praise and Benjamin means son of the right hand. And of course the right hand is the hand of authority. So you could trtranslate this into spiritual warfare. In every house putting on the armor of God and covering ourselves with the Blood of Jesus and walking with a heart of Praise to God and in the authority that the Word of God gives us we are able to fortify the walls of our hearts, homes, minds, spirits, around our children, etc. Hallelujah!

  3. DONT FIGHT YOUR BROTHER

Prayer is the foundation for battle. Prior to any and every battle there should be a season and inquiry of the LORD. Rehoboam was prepared and ready to conquer, however even though he had prepared, he obeyed the WORDS of the LORD.

How many resources do we commit to battles that should never be fought? Rehoboam was prepared with 180,000 of their best soldiers to attack his brethren. Rehoboam committed, men, weapons, time and money to a battle he would never fight.

We must be prayerful in these last days that we do not get caught up in the times and seasons of a battle that the LORD has not ordained. As the children of the LORD we are commanded to fight ONE fight.

1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Let us prayerfully commit our resources to the FIGHT for FAITH and not to fight our brother.

  4. 14. The Levites even abandoned their pasturelands and property and moved to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons would not allow them to serve the LORD as priests.
    15. Jeroboam appointed his own priests to serve at the pagan shrines, where they worshiped the goat and calf idols he had made. NLT

Some were willing to leave their property behind to serve the true God, while others would rather try to convince themselves that something they just created was worth worshiping…and the cycle goes on.

  5. 2 Chronicles 11:13-14 & 16
    13) And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.
    14) For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the LORD:
    16) And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.

What are you/I willing to give up or leave behind in order to seek and serve the LORD?
We must be willing to give up things in our lives in order to GROW in the Lord.

  6. 16 And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord God of their fathers.

We don’t seek after God because we feel like we want to, we don’t wait our emotions, for us to feel good until we seek after God. This verse says we “set” our hearts to seek after God. That means no matter the circumstance or how we feel at the time, we should make ourselves seek after God.

  7. 1 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

14 For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the Lord:

15 And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.

A tale of two brothers, raised in the same family, raised with the same principles, yet one chose to obey the Lord and the other chose to raise up idols.

It’s amazing that we see this a lot. Children raised in the same home, by the same set of parents, taught the same, yet at some point choose totally different paths, some to follow the Lord, some to follow their desires for things of this world. Too many times we see young adults move out of parents home and discard church.

I recently read a profound statement that said, it’s not enough to take your children to church, you have to get church in the heart of your children. As parents, we must travail everyday until Christ is formed in the lives of our children and they desire to seek out their own relationship with Him. This will give them a firm foundation as they grow older that they will be able to stand on and want to stand on because they have already built that relationship.

  8. 2But the lord said to Shemaiah, the man of God, 3“Say to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin: 4‘This is what the lord says: Do not fight against your relatives. Go back home, for what has happened is my doing!’” So they obeyed the message of the lord and did not fight against Jeroboam.

Wow, I had written a great blog but it deleted itself or I did accidently. God willing I will write another one soon. In Jesus Name.

  9. From all the tribes of Israel, those who sincerely wanted to worship the Lord , the God of Israel, followed the Levites to Jerusalem, where they could offer sacrifices to the Lord , the God of their ancestors.
    2 Chronicles 11:16 NLT

I was not sure what to put On the blog but this verses came to me Matthew 7:7 seek and you shall find i believe the best place to seek god is the altar the kjv in verse 16 in today blog said seek they seek the lord and offer a sacrifice. For us to really seek it going to take some sacrificing

  10. 2 But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Why fight one another when we are supposed to work for the same goal in the Kingdom of God. Instead take care of each other and your home. Make it strong so it will withstand the storms without hesitation. Make sure you have the supplies to continue on, and above all listen carefully to the counsel of the man of God.

11 And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.

12 And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

  11. 1 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

  12. 21 And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)

Parents have a tremendous duty to love our children equally. Parents who have daughters and sons, I would predict would be harder than parents of girls or boys. As a father, if I had a son and a daughter I believe it would have been difficult for me to not favor the son. As a man, I would teach him to hunt and fish, build a camp fire, perform mechanical duties to vehicles, etc.

I can see how a parent can favor one child over another. However, I can truly say I love both of my girls equally. Sure, I treated them differently as their personality demanded. One child only needed a stern word for correction while the other child required corporal punishment to make a point.

It can be done – it has to be done.

If we as parents find we are favoring one child over another maybe we need to find an alter and spend more time with the less-favored child. If we try, we can find things in which to share. Remember: to the less favored child, we are the most important person on this planet. They look to us for validation for personal worth. How they see themselves through our eyes is how they will value their lives in the future.

  13. 2 Chronicles 11: 1 When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem he mustered up Judah and Benjamin a hundred and eighty thousand able young men to go to war against Israel to regain the kingdom for Rehoboam. But this word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God. Say to Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin. This is what the Lord says do not go up to fight against your fellow Israelites. Go home every one of you for this is my doing so they obey the words of the Lord and turn back from marching against Jeroboam.

  14. NLT 14.

  15. 2 Chronicles 11:15 (KJV Strong’s)
15 And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.

Jesus doesn’t share and he doesn’t compromise. He is a jealous God. The king knew that he was going to continue worshipping the true God but wanted to have his cake and eat it too.

Why? His Daddy was a compromiser. He wanted God and devils. It doesn’t take much to see where that leads to. He eventually loses the whole kingdom.

  16. 2 Chronicles 11:13-17New International Version (NIV)

13 The priests and Levites from all their districts throughout Israel sided with him. 14 The Levites even abandoned their pasturelands and property and came to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the Lord 15 when he appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat and calf idols he had made. 16 Those from every tribe of Israel who set their hearts on seeking the Lord, the God of Israel, followed the Levites to Jerusalem to offer sacrifices to the Lord, the God of their ancestors. 17 They strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported Rehoboam son of Solomon three years, following the ways of David and Solomon during this time.

Those 2 Chronicles 11:13-17New International Version (NIV)

Those ho wanted to serve abandoned everything. There heart was St on seeing God. There are things in our life that ar not sin God may ask us to abandon just to see how diligent we really are in seeking Him and His will for our life.

  17. 4 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
God wants unity between our brothers and sisters. .. he wants us to be at peace with each other and not fighting and bickering. If we join together and walk hand in hand with each other no enemy can defeat us but divided we cannot stand.

  18. 11-16
God is more important than homes and land
Seek advice from many sources but look to God to guide you to the best choice

  19. 4 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

We have to be in sync in order for God to have his way. We can’t be fighting one another and expect God to do great things for us.

    1 Corinthians 1: 10
10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

  20. v23 “He dealt wisely, and diapered some of his sons throughout all the territories of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city; and he gave them provisions in abundance.”

We should strive to do and act righteously.

  21. “And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.” The word of God (Jesus) revealed what was obviously in his heart. The Lord will always reveal; however it may be after. Even still there are those that may refuse to see, which only reveals what is truly hidden in their heart. Dear God, awaken us before rather than after. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  22. “Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.” His actions of cruelty had consequences. Nevertheless they were wise in obeying the Lord, for disobedience also has a high price. God help us do what is right in your sight, in Jesus name.

  23. 4 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

It is very important that we obey the Word of God even when it goes against our plans. We could so easily be gearing up to fight against what God put into motion.

  24. 3 Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

4 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

At times we try to take things or matters into our hands to fix them without knowing if its allowed by God. Seeking Him prayer will guide and prevent something that can be harmful fighting agaisnt your own brother and the purpose of God.

  25. 4 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

    And they obeyed!

    That was the key, obedience!

“Love is not just a sentiment. Love is a great controlling passion and it always expresses itself in terms of obedience.”
    – Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Jesus said it best, if you love me, obey my commandments! How more can we show Love towards God then obedience?

  26. In this scripture you see how they walked three years in the way of David & Solomon and strengthened Judah!

Judah = Praise……three years just like the peace accord in the last days for Israel! In which they will break it the peace agreement.

  27. Keen to the voice of God

4 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

Knowing the voice of God is imeritice in loving for him. The only way to really know and decipher the voice of God is to know the word of God. Anytime that you think you hear the voice of God you need to cross reference the word with the Bible and your Pastor. If they all three line up then go. If they don’t then stop.

  28. 23 And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.

  29. God intervened to stop a civil war. It behooves us to realize that vengeance belongs to the Lord. Harboring animosity toward others is moot. It is best to get over that noise. ✌🏻

  30. It is foolish not to make plans but it does not prevent foolishness when we do end up making them. Be wise in your actions and trust when God wants to shift your plans in life. Know that His ways are better than ours.

  31. Verses 2-4 AMP “At the same time the word of God came to Shemaiah, a holy man, “Tell this to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, along with all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin, This is God’s word: Don’t march out; don’t fight against your brothers the Israelites. Go back home, every last one of you; I’m in charge here.” And they did it; they did what God said and went home.” Same verse AMP “But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying, “Say to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, ‘Thus says the Lord: “You shall not go up nor fight against your brothers (countrymen); return, every man to his house, for this thing is from Me.”’” And they listened to and obeyed the words of the Lord and turned back from going against Jeroboam.”

Stop, listen and obey for Proverbs 16:7 AMP says “When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Trust in God’s ways/plans not your own for Proverbs 16:20 AMP says “He who pays attention to the word [of God] will find good, And blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) is he who trusts [confidently] in the Lord.”

  32. 16 From all the tribes of Israel, those who sincerely wanted to worship the Lord, the God of Israel, followed the Levites to Jerusalem, where they could offer sacrifices to the Lord, the God of their ancestors.
17 This strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and for three years they supported Rehoboam son of Solomon, for during those years they faithfully followed in the footsteps of David and Solomon. (NLT)

Keep sacrificing! It may be tough but it’s the tough things that strengthen us, and like the scripture also says, will keep us faithful.

  33. 4‘This is what the LORD says: Do not fight against your relatives. Go back home, for what has happened is my doing!’” So they obeyed the message of the LORD and did not fight against Jeroboam.

It’s sad to see or hear, that family members have disagreements and hold grudges against each other. We need to learn how to forgive one another, especially family members.

  34. “Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭11:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sometimes we have to turn from what we want to do the things that the Lors says to do. It takes great restraint to stop doing something that you want to do.

  35. The Levites even abandoned their pasturelands and property and moved to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons would not allow them to serve the Lord as priests.
    2 Chronicles 11:14 NLT
    http://bible.com/116/2ch.11.14.NLT

When your in a place in life that you have everything in life property, home, and all the material stuff but there is something missing and that’s God in our life. We have to give up all the material stuff and move to a place where you can serve God.

  36. 2 chronicles 11:4-5
The battles that we face are not our battles to begin with. If God says sit back I’ll handle this, it’s better for us to let go and let God then to take ahold of it and destroy what his plan was.
Instead of fighting his brethren he built and expanded cities in Israel.
