2 Chronicles 13

1 Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

2 He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

3 And Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.

4 And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, thou Jeroboam, and all Israel;

5 Ought ye not to know that the Lord God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

6 Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord.

7 And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.

8 And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the Lord in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with your golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.

9 Have ye not cast out the priests of the Lord, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.

10 But as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the Lord, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:

11 And they burn unto the Lord every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the Lord our God; but ye have forsaken him.

12 And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the Lord God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

13 But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.

14 And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the Lord, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

15 Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.

17 And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

18 Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the Lord God of their fathers.

19 And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephraim with the towns thereof.

20 Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and the Lord struck him, and he died.

21 But Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.

22 And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet Iddo.

  1. e in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.

    4 And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, thou Jeroboam, and all Israel;

5 Ought ye not to know that the Lord God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

The Lord giveth and the Lord takes away blessed be the name of the Lord.

    Thankyou Lord for your word.

  2. 10. “But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not abandoned him. Only the descendants of Aaron serve the LORD as priests, and the Levites alone may help them in their work.
    14. When Judah realized that they were being attacked from the front and the rear, they cried out to the LORD for help. Then the priests blew the trumpets,
    15. and the men of Judah began to shout. At the sound of their battle cry, God defeated Jeroboam and all Israel and routed them before Abijah and the army of Judah.
    16. The Israelite army fled from Judah, and God handed them over to Judah in defeat. NLT

They didn’t abandon God when things were going great, and He didn’t abandon them when they were surrounded by the enemy. God defeated Jeroboam, and God handed them over to Judah
Some people think, “Everything is going my way, I don’t need God right now”, but no! Everything is going your way because of God.

If we only pray to Him when we are in trouble, we are already in trouble!

  3. This chapter made me think of how so many are fighting a losing battle. If you are trying to do your own thing and straying away from the things of God, you’ve already lost. Verse 12 NLT says “So you see, God is with us. He is our leader. His priests blow their trumpets and lead us into battle against you. O people of Israel, do not fight against the Lord, the God of your ancestors, for you will not succeed!” We must continue to stick with God as verse 10 says and get our battle/war cry ready, as God defeats our enemies.

  4. 2 Chronicles 13:12-15 (NLT)
    12) God is with us; he is our leader. His priests with their trumpets will sound the battle cry against you. People of Israel, do not fight against the LORD, the God of your ancestors, for you will not succeed.
    13) Now Jeroboam had sent troops around the rear, so that while he was in front of Judah the ambush was behind them.
    14) Judah turned and saw that they were being attacked at both front and rear. Then they cried out to the LORD. The priests blew their trumpets
    15) and the men of Judah raised the battle cry. At the sound of their battle cry, God routed Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

“The priests blew their trumpets and the men of Judah raised the battle cry.”
All I could hear as I read these verses was Pastor’s voice, “WAR CRY!”

  5. 12 And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the Lord God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

A battle against God is a battle you will lose, don’t try to fight God’s will for you in your life.

  6. 15 Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

Victory is in praise and in the shout!

  7. 12 So you see, God is with us. He is our leader. His priests blow their trumpets and lead us into battle against you. O people of Israel, do not fight against the Lord, the God of your ancestors, for you will not succeed!” (NLT)

Be sure you’re fighting with the Lord and not against Him. Don’t make yourself an enemy to God; follow Him and obey His word.

  8. 15 Then the m en of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand

    Victory in praise!
there is alot to be said about the power of Prayer prayer gave the people of God and the victory that day. Their Deliverance as we worship God they did not have to fight that battle because praise and worship it for them. we must remember that our Victory is not in ourselves but it’s in praise!

  9. 10 But as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the Lord, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:

11 And they burn unto the Lord every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the Lord our God; but ye have forsaken him.

  10. iLove to Grow in the Word
2 Chronicles 13:9 NLT But you have chased away the priests of the LORD (the descendants of Aaron) and the Levites, and you have appointed your own priests, just like the pagan nations. You let anyone become a priest these days! Whoever comes to be dedicated with a young bull and seven rams can become a priest of these so-called gods of yours!

It’s easy to become a minister today…don’t believe me then check out what I found on the internet. This is an example in the two paragraphs below.

“The Universal Life Church Ministries is a non-denominational online ministry and is perhaps one of the largest communities of ordained ministers in the world. It believes that everyone, regardless of their religious beliefs or affiliations, should be able to get ordained online to celebrate their own spirituality and to perform wedding ceremonies for their friends and family.

Many people don’t know how to become an ordained minister, and they want to find out. It’s easy to become an ordained minister online in the ULC Ministries, and your ordination in the church will be legally recognized in most U.S. states and jurisdictions. Because we believe that every person has a spark of divine wisdom inside them, we do not require our ministers to earn traditional minister credentials. After all, many religious leaders did not. Ordination is fast and free, and lasts for life. Get ordained online today and change your life!” http://d23a3s5l1qjyz.cloudfront.net/wp-content/themes/ulc-org/images/flags-medium.png

WOW, and that’s not the worse part, these guys logo include the Cross, Star of David, Islamic moon god symbol, and the satanic pentagram…

Truly we live in a society today that will allow anyone to become a minister.

  11. I have heard for years the definition of insane is to repeat the same action and expect different results. It amazes me how many times people want to fight God’s people and expect to win. Jeroboam of all people should know better. Yet, we humans are always testing our boundaries. How fast can we run, how high can we jump and how far can we push the limits of God?

I am content within the walls of the protection of God. I know from which my help cometh. I am a child of God and with that knowledge and acceptance comes rules. If I want to live with His protection there are rules. Either you chose to live within the boundaries of the rules or you do not.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

  12. 12 And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the Lord God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

  13. DECEITFUL LEADERS CANNOT DEFEAT GODLY LEADERS

Abidjah is speaking TRUTH as the leader of Judah. It has been my experience that when people are challenged and confronted with the TRUTH of their backslidden hearts, the resort to attacks and in this case a deceitful attack, while Abijah was speaking and revealing the errant ways of Jeroboam and his followers, Jeroboam chose to attack from behind.

Jeroboam had twice as many men and operated on the strength of his army. While Abijah with half the men operated on the strength of the LORD. We are all brought to decision to follow the popular decision or the RIGHT decision.

While Jeroboam sent his men to attack from behind, Abijah chose to attack from above.

When under attack Godly leaders will exercise the right of the Kingdom of GOD with a “WAR CRY” and GOD will smote the adversary. TRUTH always Trumps deceit.

We are eternally wise to choose Leaders who do not and will not bend to the pressures of the world, not its masses.

Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. KJV

The MSG version tells the story:

    MSG
10-11 “But for the rest of us in Judah, we’re sticking with God. We have not traded him in for the latest model—we’re keeping the tried-and-true priests of Aaron to lead us to God and the Levites to lead us in worship by sacrificing Whole-Burnt-Offerings and aromatic incense to God at the daily morning and evening prayers, setting out fresh holy bread on a clean table, and lighting the lamps on the golden Lampstand every night. We continue doing what God told us to in the way he told us to do it; but you have rid yourselves of him.

12 “Can’t you see the obvious? God is on our side; he’s our leader. And his priests with trumpets are all ready to blow the signal to battle. O Israel—don’t fight against God, the God of your ancestors. You will not win this battle.”

13-18 While Abijah was speaking, Jeroboam had sent men around to take them by surprise from the rear: Jeroboam in front of Judah and the ambush behind. When Judah looked back, they saw they were attacked front and back. They prayed desperately to God, the priests blew their trumpets, and the soldiers of Judah shouted their battle cry. At the battle cry, God routed Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah. The army of Israel scattered before Judah; God gave them the victory. Abijah and his troops slaughtered them—500,000 of Israel’s best fighters were killed that day. The army of Israel fell flat on its face—a humiliating defeat. The army of Judah won hands down because they trusted God, the God of their ancestors.

  14. AMP – 6 Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord [the king], 7 and worthless (unprincipled, unethical) men gathered around him, useless and wicked men, who proved too strong for Rehoboam the son of Solomon when Rehoboam was young and timid, and could not assert himself against them.

Be careful who your friends are. Rehoboam surrounded himself with peers that led him down the wrong path, then they rose up against him as well.

We have to be in the world to win the world, but we don’t have to do and be like the world. Separate yourself, keep Godly friends. Don’t go where christians shouldn’t go and don’t open up yourself to things christians shouldn’t do. The enemy is sly and will bring in deception piece by piece if we are not on guard watching for our souls.

  15. 12 And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the Lord God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

If God be for us who can be against us?

  16. 2 Chronicles 13:6 Yet Jeroboam son of Nebat an official of Solomon son of David rebelled against his master. Some worthless scoundrels gathered around him and opposed Rehoboam son of Solomon when he was young and indecisive and not strong enough to resist them. And now you plan to resist the kingdom of the Lord which is in the hands of David descendants. You are indeed a vast army and has with you the golden calf that Jeroboam am make to be your gods. But didn’t you drive them out the priests of the Lord the sons of Aaron and the Levis and make priests of your own as the people of other lands do? Whoever comes to consecrate himself with young bull and seven rams may become a priest of what are not gods. As for us the Lord Is Our God and we have not forsaken him. The priest who serve the Lord are sons of Aaron and the Levites assist them. Every morning and evening they present burnt offerings and fragrant incense to the Lord. They set out the bread on the ceremonially clean table and light the lamps on the gold lampstand every evening. We are observe observing the requirements of the Lord Our God. But you have forsaken him God is with us he is our leader. His priests with their trumpets will sound the Battle Cry against you. People of Israel do not fight against the Lord the god of your ancestors for you will not succeed.

  17. II Chronicles ESV
8 “And now you think to withstand the kingdom of the Lord in the hand of the sons of David, because you are a great multitude and have with you the golden calves that Jeroboam made you for gods. 9 Have you not driven out the priests of the Lord, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves like the peoples of other lands? Whoever comes for ordination[d] with a young bull or seven rams becomes a priest of what are not gods. 10 But as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken him. We have priests ministering to the Lord who are sons of Aaron, and Levites for their service. 11 They offer to the Lord every morning and every evening burnt offerings and incense of sweet spices, set out the showbread on the table of pure gold, and care for the golden lampstand that its lamps may burn every evening. For we keep the charge of the Lord our God, but you have forsaken him. 12 Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with their battle trumpets to sound the call to battle against you. O sons of Israel, do not fight against the Lord, the God of your fathers, for you cannot succeed.”

As fior us the Lord is our God. We cannot allow anything in this world to become a GOD to us. Rebellion is want caused the division here. When you fight against the will of God ,rebel against His word there will be nothing but defeat. But when we continually submit to His will and fight daily the battle and not forsake His commandments God will fight for us because we have allowed Him to be the King of our hearts. God is with us so who can be against us. No weapon formed shall prosper if we submit to God. We are in a battle, a constant battle. We have already been given the power to be overcomers this is why daily we must get into His presence and allow the Spirit within us to rise up daily for the battle. We are warriors and we will win!

  18. 14 And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the Lord, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
15 Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.

The instant they discovered their peril, the cried to the Lord. The order of events here are what stood out to me: the priests sounded the trumpet, the men shouted and God stepped in. It’s like the battle of Jericho, but without the instructions. We know that victory is won spiritually many times with the shout, then we see walls come down. Praise is how we fight, like the songs says.

  19. So you see, God is with us. He is our leader. His priests blow their trumpets and lead us into battle against you. O people of Israel, do not fight against the Lord , the God of your ancestors, for you will not succeed!”
    2 Chronicles 13:12 NLT
    http://bible.com/116/2ch.13.12.NLT

No matter how many times we think we know it all and try to do it our way and with our own strength, we set ourselves up for failure because we are going against God and His Word. We need to render ourselves to God and let Him lead us. We will always prevail on God’s side.

  20. 14 And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the Lord, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
15 Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.

The shout of victory came before God stepped. Praise is how the battles are won. This battle closely resembles the battle of Jericho-just without the instructions to shout ahead of time! But it’s a principle in spiritual warfare. We win the victory spiritually then see walls come crumbling down. Praise him for victory!

  21. 14 And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the Lord, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

15 Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.

Our God is a Great and Mighty God, but their are some steps that we need to take for Him to reveal Himself Mighty. First we must CRY to the Lord Psalm 121:1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Then give a shout of Victory as a sign of The Faith we have in Our Strong and Mighty God. Psalm 118:15 Songs of joy and victory are sung in the camp of the godly. The strong right arm of the LORD has done glorious things! NLT

Identify Him with Thanksgiving!!! Psalm 61:3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

What a Mighty God we Serve!!!!!!!

  22. v18 Thus the children of Israel were subdued at the time; and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on the LORD God of their fathers.

GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER! Worship involves every area of our lives. If we courageously offer sacrifices of praise during times of , uncertainties, others observe that our GOD IS ABLE to keep us through any storm.

  23.  “Listen! Don’t you realize that the Lord God of Israel swore that David’s descendants would always be the kings of Israel?  Your King Jeroboam is a mere servant of David’s son and was a traitor to his master.  Then a whole gang of worthless rebels joined him, defying Solomon’s son Rehoboam, for he was young and frightened and couldn’t stand up to them.  Do you really think you can defeat the kingdom of the Lord that is led by a descendant of David? Your army is twice as large as mine, but you are cursed with those gold calves you have with you that Jeroboam made for you—he calls them your gods!  And you have driven away the priests of the Lord and the Levites and have appointed heathen priests instead. Just like the people of other lands, you accept as priests anybody who comes along with a young bullock and seven rams for consecration. Anyone at all can be a priest of these no-gods of yours! TGBTG

God definitely keeps his promise! Even after David is dead everyone that’s is connected to the bloodline of David is blessed!

  24. 12 And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you.

We have to choose a side. People cannot be one foot on the world and one on the church. As time in this world keeps on things become defining and we must make our stand clear. The ones against God will not have victory because God has promised that the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church. So we need to make up in our minds whose side are we gonna be on.

  25. 18 Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the Lord God of their fathers.

In order to prevail, it will require relying on God. When we put our trust in him, we will have a victorious outcome. This requires us to lay everything to the side, so that our total focus can be on what God wants us to do.

  26. 2 Chronicles 13:18 (NLT)
18 So Judah defeated Israel on that occasion because they trusted in the Lord, the God of their ancestors.

Even when things seem stacked against us God is the majority. He sees the end from the beginning and knows the weakness and blind spots of the enemy. As long as we stay on God’s side he will work it out in our favor.

Even though they were surrounded God still brought the victory.

  27. 12 God is with us; he is our leader. His priests with their trumpets will sound the battle cry against you. People of Israel, do not fight against the Lord, the God of your ancestors, for you will not succeed.”

God is with us always and will never leave our side. He is our leader and if were not following Him well then who are we following? Don’t question God why your life is the way it is….maybe we need to examine ourselves and make sure were putting Him before everything. Just put Him first and He will do the rest. Thank you Jesus because your so amazing!!!!!

  28. 5 Don’t you realize that the LORD, the God of Israel, made a lasting covenant with David, giving him and his descendants the throne of Israel forever?

We too should realize, God has a covenant with each of us. He promised us eternal life, for Jesus died for our sins. All we have to do is have a relationship with him and be obedient. God will not break his promise to us.

  29. 18 Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the Lord God of their fathers.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding in all they ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path.

    Trust..And worship.

  30. “But as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the Lord, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business”. The word of God (Jesus) identifies sureness. They had made up their mind and were willing to fight for their beliefs. One cannot afford to worship or glorify anyone or anything other than Jesus (Creator). Dear God, remove false gods, idols, and deceptiveness far from us. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  31. “Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the Lord God of their fathers.” They only prevailed because of the Lord, which is all the more reason to serve him. As time draws closer we will each have to decide the side, will it be with the world or with the Lord. God help us to comprehend the time, in Jesus name.

  32. 2 Chronicles 13:12 God is with us; he is our leader. His priests with their trumpets will sound the battle cry against you. People of Israel, do not fight against the Lord, the God of your ancestors, for you will not succeed.”

He is our Leader! He is our ruler! He is before us! Our pastor will blow the trumpet against you, You are defeated, no weapon formed against me shall prosper. Even if you have me surrounded, I do not walk by sight but by faith. My help come from the LORD! He is my savior, my present help, my fortress, my deliverer. How dare you defy the children of God, you cut-off fool. Get under my feet. Amen!

  33. 3 And Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.

    4 And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, thou Jeroboam, and all Israel;

Abijah was literally out numbered two to one but because of his sacrifices to God and Jeroboam rebellion against the Lord. The battle was favoured against Jeroboam. It doesn’t matter how high the strength is or ghe number of people…what matters is THAT ur obedience to God is kept. It’s a very simple message but it still just seems out of the grasp of so many believers.

  34. The fight was won when Abija gave God glory before it ever began. Abuja knew that God was with his so he didn’t worry about the fight. He gave the enemy every chance to turn away. Pastor says it all the time…. Don’t tell God how big your problem is, tell your problem how big your God is. Giving God the glory in your trouble will deliver you,

The importance of A UNITED BATTLE CRY!!!

  36. 14 And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the Lord, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

Trumpets in the hands of priests is more effective than those in a physical battle. In the battle of spiritual warfare Judah won the battle way before it began. Israel forsook God and did not serve him as those of Judah did. When the enemy came in like a flood the Lord set a standard against him. We cannot put our trust in the might of man and things of this word as Israel did. When Judah blew the trumpet it unleashed the miraculous. We can position ourselves for the victory of the miraculous or the defeat with the wrath of God. With God there will always be more power from on high than form man below.

  37. “God is with us. He’s our leader. His priests will blow their trumpets. They will sound the battle cry against you. Men of Israel, don’t fight against the Lord. He’s the God of your people who lived long ago. You can’t possibly succeed.””
