2 Chronicles 19

1 And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.

2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord.

3 Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.

4 And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beersheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back unto the Lord God of their fathers.

5 And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city,

6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.

7 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

8 Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the Lord, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.

9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

10 And what cause soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in your cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against the Lord, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not trespass.

11 And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the Lord; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the Lord shall be with the good.

  1. The end of verse 11 says in the MSG “Be bold and diligent. And God be with you as you do your best.” Same in the NLT “Take courage as you fulfill your duties, and may the Lord be with those who do what is right.” We too must fulfill our duties this weekend….”Western Day” and do our best as we shine the light of Jesus to this community. Everyone at POFW has a place, a job and an opportunity to serve the King of Kings.

  2. 9. These were his instructions to them: “You must always act in the fear of the LORD, with faithfulness and an undivided heart. NLT

We should follow this every time we judge a situation to determine how we are going to act and respond.

    Proverbs 3:
    5. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

    6. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

    7. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

  3. 2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord.

3 Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.

No matter what our past may be, there is still hope for anyone that has a heart that seeks after the Lord and is repentant.

  4. 6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.

7 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

Keep your heart clean, acceptable to God, be aware and be fearful of God who is the one we serve. Judge according to His word and without taking any bribe. Lord I prefer not to judge anyone for I myself has been a sinner. Help us instead guide the lost back to you and make our lives pleasing and acceptable to you. Let’s teach them that their past does not need to define their future. In Jesus Name Amen

  5.  And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

The Fear of The LORD increase in our lives that we may be able to love our brothers and sisters in CHRIST with a perfect heart, ALWAYS HAVING EACH OTHERS BACK!!! UNITE TO BECOME ONE ABOVE ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!!!

  6. “But there are some good things found in you, for you have removed the Asherim (idols) from the land and you have set your heart to seek God [with all your soul’s desire].””
    ‭‭2 CHRONICLES‬ ‭19:3‬ ‭AMP‬‬

My desire is that we would see the condition of our hearts. Then we would correct and set your hearts to seek God.

  7. Amplified version
5 He appointed judges in the land in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city, 6 and he said to the judges, “Be careful what you do, for you do not judge for man, but for the Lord who is with you in the matter of judgment. 7 So now let the fear (reverent awe) of the Lord be on you [to keep you from making unjust decisions]; be careful in what you do, for there is no injustice with the Lord our God, or partiality, or acceptance of a bribe.”

8 In Jerusalem also Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites, priests, and heads of the fathers’ households of Israel to render the judgment of the Lord and to judge disputes among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 9 Then the king commanded them, “Do this in the fear of the Lord, faithfully and wholeheartedly. 10 Whenever any dispute comes to you from your brothers (relatives) who live in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, or between statutes and judgments, you are to warn [and instruct] them so that they may not be guilty before the Lord; otherwise [God’s] wrath will come on you and your brothers. Do this and you will not be guilty. 11 Behold, Amariah the chief priest will be over you in all matters of the Lord, and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the governor of the house of Judah, in all the king’s matters; and the Levites will serve you as officers. Deal courageously, and may the Lord be with the upright.”

They were told to warn their brothers when there were disputes going on. They were instructed to do it in the fear of the Lord. We live in a society that does not like anyone to give them instruction. Especially our own kinship, family, extended families. When finding ourselves in a situation of dispute or confusion amongst our natural family or spiritual family we must be sure to remeber the warnings of God. Not in a holier than thou way but in our own actions, our own words we say, our own lifestyle. By living in peace , by not be subjective to tale bearers , and those who cause division. God will give you wisdom in your actions and in your words. We cannot be afraid to give a warning if done in the fear of the Lord He will give us the courage to speak in the midst of the adversity and remind those who are in conflict that it is not pleasing to God. Lord cover us today in all we say and do. That God will be reflected to the world and our families through our lives we live daily.

  8. 6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.
7 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

IF we truly feared God, how much harder would we reach for the lost around us???

Most of us have some level of the fear of the Lord in us, but for the most part, we rarely exhibit it.

  9. iLove to Grow in the Word
2 Chronicles 19:6-7 NLT (6) and he said to them, “Always think carefully before pronouncing judgment. Remember that you do not judge to please people but to please the LORD. He will be with you when you render the verdict in each case. (7) Fear the LORD and judge with integrity, for the LORD our God does not tolerate perverted justice, partiality, or the taking of bribes.”

What a concept. Wow, not only do we need to pray for the judges of the land, but according to these scriptures the judges themselves need to seek the Lord for judgement from the Lord.

Many don’t understand the true importance of this upcoming election. The importance is that the president appoints the Supreme Judges that judge the land. We need godly judges in the land and that is why our vote might count more than some think.

  10. ACCOUNTABILITY AND HONESTY

11 And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the Lord; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the Lord shall be with the good.

Jehu the prophet established that even the king was to be submitted to authority. Amariah the chief priest was over the king in all matters of the LORD. The only requirement for Jehoshaphat was to “Deal Courageously” and GOD will be with him.

Deal Courageously – make firm and clear decisions.

This principal is applicable today, if we will make our decisions firm and clear to invite and uphold the Kingdom of GOD the LORD shall be with us.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  11. 5 He appointed judges in the land in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city, 6 and he said to the judges, “Be careful what you do, for you do not judge for man, but for the Lord who is with you in the matter of judgment. 7 So now let the fear (reverent awe) of the Lord be on you [to keep you from making unjust decisions]; be careful in what you do, for there is no injustice with the Lord our God, or partiality, or acceptance of a bribe.”
God wants us to be careful and concerned about how we live. He wants us to be just in our decision making process and pure in our hearts. As Judges these were people of authority who made decisions on behalf of others and settled matters and disputes. These same people needed to make sure not to be bribed into doing anything that God was not pleased with and to have pure motives and intentions in their judgment.

  12. Peace
just like pastor said yesterday at church we need to have peace that is what this chapter is talking about Peace on are Family work and Yourself.

  13. 11 And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the Lord; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the Lord shall be with the good.

The Lord will bless. This week has been so amazing and so on time. Many things have been confirmed and the only thing left is to be blessed.

  14. 6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.

Remember that the work we do, we don’t do it for other people, but we do it for the Lord. We are doing the Lord’s work, not man’s. When we do work for Pastor or man of God, we are not doing Pastor’s work but we are doing the work of God.

  15. 7 Fear the Lord and judge with integrity, for the Lord our God does not tolerate perverted justice, partiality, or the taking of bribes.

  16. Setting your house in order can be hard, difficult, and time consuming. But it’s God’s will.
“Let all things be done decently and in order.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:40‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭50:21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  17. 3 Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.

  18. and he said to them, “Always think carefully before pronouncing judgment. Remember that you do not judge to please people but to please the Lord . He will be with you when you render the verdict in each case. Fear the Lord and judge with integrity, for the Lord our God does not tolerate perverted justice, partiality, or the taking of bribes.”
    2 Chronicles 19:6‭-‬7 NLT

We are not here to jugde others but we are here to help and direct them to the right path god is the only judge

  19. 8 In Jerusalem also Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites, priests, and heads of the fathers’ households of Israel to render the judgment of the Lord and to judge disputes among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Live peaceable with all men. If we would take offenses that come to us and use this scripture, not only would offenses be squashed immediately, but there would not be discord, contention and disunity spread to the body.

We must take heed to handle matters at the lowest level so they don’t escalate and mountains are made out of mole hills.

As Leaders, Romans 12:18 instructs us “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

  20. 9 Then the king commanded them, “Do this in the fear of the Lord, faithfully and wholeheartedly. (AMP)

We’ve been hearing, or at least I have, been hearing much reference and talk about serving God with our whole hearts. Let’s examine ourselves and insure there is nothing we are holding back from Him.

  21. 9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

Both the judges and levites he charged them to do their jobs not for man but for the Lord. Leaders with responsibilities to the people need to focus on pleasing the Lord and not being controlled by the people.

  22. 6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.

7 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

We can’t bribe God into getting what we want but if we fear him like we are suppose too and live for him without wrong intentions then we will be the able to fullfill his purpose. God knows the heart.

  23. 2 Chronicles 19: 2 Jehu the seer the son of Hanan went out to meet him and said to the king should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Because of this the wrath of the Lord is on you. There is however some good in you for you have rid the land of the Asherah poles and have set your heart on seeking God. Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill county of Ephraim and turned them back to the Lord the God of their ancestors. HE appointed judges in the land in each of the fortified cities of Judah. HE told them consider carefully what you do because you are not judging for mere mortals but for the Lord who is with you whenever you give a verdict. NOW let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.

  24. 6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.

When given guidance, getting convicted, or rebuked by one of your leaders, have an open heart and listen. The things you hear may make you feel uncomfortable but they’re the voice of God. And God deserves our 100% attention and obedience.

  25. 6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.

As we set our hearts to wholly follow Christ we must also allow no room for judgment of others. I was told years ago if you are busy judging your heart against His word you will never have room to judge others. For you will always understand his grace and mercy and you will be willing to extend that to others and become the light that leads them to Him. Yet if you let go of it you will start putting the judgement of others in front of the wrongs your doing; saying well at least I’m not doing what they are doing.

  26. 5 And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city,
6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.
7 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
Since our work is for God, our work should always be done ethically.
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.

  27. 2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord.

we need to be the help that people that don’t know about GOD and all his might. we need to show love and care for the ones that dislike us fir speaking the truth or for any reason that they don’t like us we need have them in prayers and show them the love that you have because of the holy ghost. we need to show people that we are the light of the world and we are love because HE loved us first.

  28. 6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.

Don’t be too quick to judge the actions of others, first look at your own heart with an open mind and ask yourself am I perfect? Am I living for God whole heartedly? And maybe there you will find grace for others!

  29. 9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

In the fear of the Lord. Another way to show love is to correct. Not in a harsh condeming way but in the fear of the Lord. Warn them it says here in the scripture. It is a great blessing to have some one perhaps a close friend who you can be accountable to. Tell them in the love of God if something is going wrong.

  30. “And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord.” The word of God (Judge) was clear. One can do as one wants, and choose whom one wants to be their ruler/leader; however one can also answer for it one day. Dear God, expose and remove ungodly rulers, and haters of you too include those wanting to be. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  31. “And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.” They were provide instruction, which they were charged to do all in the fear of the Lord. We should obey the word of the Lord; however we should never utilize fear as a motivator. Likewise we should be mindful of any that would. God help us that we would mindful of self, in Jesus name.

  32. and he said to them, “Always think carefully before pronouncing judgment. Remember that you do not judge to please people but to please the Lord . He will be with you when you render the verdict in each case.
    2 Chronicles 19:6 NLT
    http://bible.com/116/2ch.19.6.NLT

Not only do we have to think carefully before anything comes out of our mouth but we must also be in prayer about everything that we say cause anything that comes out of our mouths can be very dangerous and hurtful. When we pray and have the right mind set God will be in everything that we say and do.

  33. 2 Chronicles 19:4 (AMP)
So Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and brought them back to the LORD, the God of their fathers.

He went out – and – brought them back to the LORD.
This made me think of OUTREACH

  34. Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God

This stuck out to me the most, maybe bc of the negative implications we naturally have from others. It is way to easy to simply judge others by their actions and ourselves by our motives. It should be a personal challenge to ourselves to go against the grain of our nature and look for what God sees in each individual rather than what man sees. It is when we do that that we can truly reach for others, when we see that lost and hungry soul crying out to God under that armour they put on and hid in.

  35. When the will of the Lord is done, great outcomes can happen. Sometimes we face a lot of unnecessary distress because we don’t follow the plan God has set before us. It’s high time to put God first.

  36. 2 Chronicles 19:2 (KJV Strong’s)
2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord.

God is not the God of compromise. He is a jealous God. He loves us dearly and allows zero competition.

    Why?

I believe it is because he knows that all other spiritual relationships are abusive and deadly. He understands the pain and turmoil we will endure when we flirt with idols. He loves us and protects us because he wants what is best for us.

True love doesn’t just love you. True love also gets angry at the things that can destroy you.

  37. 2 Chronicles 19:3 Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land , and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.

30:19 That prepareth his heart to seek God, the Lord God of his fathers , though he be not cleansed according to the purification of the sanctuary

Psalm 40:6-8 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.7. Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, 8. I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

  38. And he was diligent in appointing judges in the land—each of the fortress cities had its judge. He charged the judges: “This is serious work; do it carefully.
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭19:5-6

Being appointed over a ministry or the management of people or God’s resources is serious business. Sometimes we can get lost in the monotonous repetition of our daily/weekly/monthly routines. However, we cannot be lacking in our dedication to doing our best for His Kingdom and His people. When we were appointed over our respective ministries; what were we thinking?

Did we really stop and consider the full ramifications of what we were signing up for?

…”This is serious work; do it carefully.” …”Live in the fear of GOD —be most careful, for GOD hates dishonesty, partiality, and bribery.”
‭‭…be bold and diligent and God be with you as you do your best.
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭19:11‬

  39. Jehoshaphat did well but he was single minded in pursuing God. Good intentions and works are not enough. It is all about relationship. We must have a genuine relationship with God. Without that we are vain workers.

  40. We are putting ourselves in a very sticky situation when we are constantly judging others for their wrongs that it blinds us to our own. Leaders need to not focus on the bad of others but on bettering themselves. Let God do the judging.

  41. 9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

Perfect heart…..just like God (perfect) everything we do we must do for the Lord and in holiness. Having nothing in our hearts that will not make it a perfect heart. Don’t serve the Lord half heartedly but with your whole heart. I know if we could see Him physically we would do everything different but that’s why his Word says in John 20:29 “Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
We must see with our spiritual eyes!!!!
9 He gave them these orders: “You must serve faithfully and wholeheartedly in the fear of the Lord.

  42. 6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.
7 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

In judging the matters of the people, they were to not accept bribes or gifts, but rather realize that the Lord their God was with them and to judge in the fear (respect) of the Lord. They were to be mindful of God in all they did through the day. The same with us, we can be around sinners-at work or family & friends, but we must keep our hearts and minds stayed on God so we don’t sin. They are always watching us to see if we are who we say we are!

  43. 9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

This doesn’t mean that the people are perfect or that he is. It means that they need to serve faithfully and whole heartedly. He explained that God is no respector of men but judges righteously. He corrects even those he loves and disciplines them with just scales.

  44. Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
    (2 Chronicles 19:7 KJV)

Here Jehosaphat calls the people to respect the law of God. That they not only listen and know the law but to also follow it in their daily lives. Making God first and obeying him. God is not a respector of persons or positions of authorities because he can raise up or take down leaders as he sees fit. God cannot be bribed like carnal men because the earth is already his and the fullness there of. We serve a just God and not only should it bring us closer to him it should show us its not just a list of rules.

  45. The charges against you

9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

When a man of God charges you to do something it actually means that you will be charged with an offense and judged if you don’t do it. He is actually saying that the Lord will bring up charges against you if you don’t do what he says. This is scary vanacular if you take your man of God seriously.

  46. 7 Fear the LORD and judge with integrity, for the LORD our God does not tolerate perverted justice, partiality, or the taking of bribes.”

Too bad, our country could follow this one verse. Our judges and leaders in top positions are so easily influenced politically. An individual can commit a crime, but the person in authority will look the other way, and dismiss any charges. We must continue to pray for our country, so we can have judges who fear the Lord!

  47. 7 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

When we are giving the opportunity to lead we should make sure that we stay humble. Know that God choose you to serve because you had a willing heart to serve and is able to serve others.
