2 Chronicles 22

1 And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.

2 Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.

3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

4 Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.

5 He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramothgilead: and the Syrians smote Joram.

6 And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick.

7 And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

8 And it came to pass, that, when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of Ahaziah, that ministered to Ahaziah, he slew them.

9 And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.

10 But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.

11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.

12 And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

  1. Verse 4 CEV “In fact, after his father’s death, Ahaziah sinned against the Lord by appointing some of Ahab’s relatives to be his advisors. Their advice led to his downfall.” One must be careful who they listen to and the advice they take. Follow Him…..Jesus!

The end of the chapter reminds me to protect what is good against evil. Jehosheba, wife of Jehoiada the priest and sister of Ahaziah, hid the child so that Athaliah could not murder him. Joash had an appointed time and had to be protected from his own family in order to keep this appointment. Guard and protect what is good and do not let the advice of others, who may not have your best interest (your soul) at heart, lead you away from your destiny (God’s plan).

  2. 11. But little did she know that Jehoshabeath, King Jehoram’s daughter, had stolen Ahaziah’s son Joash from among the king’s sons when Jehu’s soldiers were killing them. She hid Joash and his nurse in a bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram and the sister of King Ahaziah, saved the Davidic line by protecting him from Athaliah’s murderous rage. Since she was the wife of Jehoiada the priest, Jehoshabeath
    12. was able to hide Joash and his nurse in the temple of the True God during the six years of Athaliah’s reign. The Voice

God always has a way of keeping His promises to save His people, even if He has to hide a baby from murderers to do it. (Moses, Joash, Jesus…)

What better place to be in times of trouble than the House of God?

  3. 7 And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

  4. But the downfall of Ahaziah was ordained by God, in that he went to Joram (Jehoram). For when he arrived there he went out [as an ally] with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab.

The WRONG SIDE TO BE ON!!!
GOD HAD ALREADY ORDAINED HIS DOWNFALL, OF COURSE BECAUSE HE DID WHAT WAS EVIL IN GOD’S SIGHT!!!

  5. 9 And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.

It is amazing how an entire generation of a nation can change by one person, who sought the Lord followed by one who sought personal gain instead.

  6. this chapter talks about evil we don’t need to fall for evil we need to get rid of it by the Power of Jesus Christ. Amen

  7. “Ahaziah also followed the ways of the royal family of Ahab. That’s because Ahaziah’s mother gave him bad advice. She told him to do what was wrong. So he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, just as the family of Ahab had done. After Ahaziah’s father died, the members of Ahab’s family became his advisers. That’s what destroyed him.”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭22:3-4‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Parents do have influence in their children’s lives. The responsibility as a parent is great and stressful at times. And as parents will make mistakes since we are not perfect. But even in our mistakes when can teach our children how to ask for forgiveness and make things right.j I’m thankful for parents who invested the time to take me to church and teach me to live a godly life.

    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭22:3-4‬ ‭NIRV

The advice and counsel that we receive in our lives really matter. Those who consult us have influence over our whole lives and they help dictate our actions weather right ore wrong. Let’s carefully watch anyone who gives us advice and be prayerful about it.

  9. 2 Chronicles 22: Then Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab because he had been wounded. GOD brought about Ahaziah’sdownfall. When Ahaziah arrived he went out with Joram to meet Jehu son of Nimshi whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of a Ahab. WHILE Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab he found the officials of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah relatives who had been attending Ahaziah and he killedvthem. He then went in search of Ahaziah and his men captured him while he was hiding in Samaria. HE was brought to Jehu and put to death. They buried him for they said he was a son of Jehoshaphat who sought the Lord with all his heart. So there was no one in the house of Ahaziah powerful enough to retain the kingdom.

  10. Jehoshaphat led Israel in the ways of the Lord yet his sons who later rule bring wickedness back into the kingdom. There were other influences in the palace through their mothers and obviously others in these son’s lives. Yet the king’s daughter hid Joash and he was hidden in the House of God. Somewhere down the road we all must decide who we will serve. The pull of this world is so strong and the enemy wants our children. Teach them how to pray at home. Help them develop a relationship with Jesus at home. Don’t depend on others to teach your children, take the lead. Proverbs 22:6 says a train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it….Stand on the promises of God!

  11. 10 But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.

  12.  Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri. He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his adviser [and she encouraged him] to act wickedly. So he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab, for they were his advisers after the death of his father, resulting in his destruction. – 2 Chronicles 22 AMP

This passage of verses has definitely grieved my sprit
Ahaziah his own mother have encouraged him to not walk in the ways of the Lord. What kind of mother would do that? One that didn’t care about his soul. We as parents should be our kids biggest supporters especially when it comes to their salvation. Lord help us to lead our children by example, always keeping your commandment, and living a righteous and holy life! Amen

  13. iLove to Grow in the Word
2 Chronicles 22:2 NLT Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother was Athaliah, a granddaughter of King Omri.

Wow, as I read this, I had to research who Athaliah was. Athaliah was Queen of Judah from 842-836 BC. She was the daughter of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel of the northern kingdom of Israel.

As we know, the 12 Tribes of Israel had been divided after the days of Solomon. 10 tribes made up “Israel” and 2 tribes made up “Judah”. The 10 tribes were immediately led into idol worship by Jeroboam. He set up a new worship center that was separated from the temple and made gold calves for the people to worship.

With this being said, Judah and Israel were to be separated just as the flesh and spirit are to be divided. Judah’s kings began to marry the daughters of Israel (Athaliah was the daughter of Jezebel) and caused the people of God to go astray.

  14. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.
4 Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction

Who are you letting be your counsel in your life. A true man of God or someone that doesn’t seek God. Whose advice do you listen to? I’ve learned that everyone has an opinion about everything and your never going to please everybody but the only opinion that should matter is what does Jesus think????? We must read the Word to know how God wants us to live on a daily basis. All our answers are in the Word of God ad if you have a doubt if we as Him, He will show us!!!!!!! My God is alive and knows everything!!!!!! Don’t run away from God but Run To God!!!!! In you I trust Lord!!!!

  15. 9 And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.

Being the child of a great person will not save you. The people honored him in his death because of who his father was and what his father did but his own choices determined his eternity.

  16. “And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.”

  17. THE HOLY HIDEOUT

Today we declare it is time to take back what the adversary has plans to destroy. We must gather and bring all of our children to the house of the LORD. We must bring them on buses, vans, cars, trucks, carry them on foot. Lets get our children to THE HOLY HIDEOUT.

Joash was hid and protected from death in the HOUSE OF THE LORD.

We must get our children to CHURCH. The football team, the marching band, the social club, the soccer team, little league baseball nor pee wee football can protect them. HIDE your children in the HOUSE of the LORD.

Jehoshabeath was willing to take a chance and hide Joash in the house of GOD for 6 years. This is what The POFW Childrens Ministry does every week, hide children in the house of the LORD. Under the direction of Sis. Nicole Johnson, the Childrens Ministry staff teaches these children about living for JESUS and being faithful to the house of the LORD and sends the Bus Ministry out as Jehoshabeth to take children to the House of the LORD.

Poor little Joash must have been socially deprived, but he was alive. Poor little Joash must have been sheltered from organized sports, but he was alive. Poor little Joash must have been disconnected from his generation, but he was alive.

We must train and teach our children about JESUS and living in the House of the LORD.

  18. He lived and ruled just like the Ahab family had done, his mother training him in evil ways. 4 God also considered him evil, related by both marriage and sin to the Ahab clan. After the death of his father, he attended the sin school of Ahab, and graduated with a degree in doom. MSG
Parents what are we teaching we our children, when they are little and they do something wrong and we laugh cause it is so cute do we get disciple them and explain to them not to that or just laugh at the issue. But what happens when they get older and they do the same thing and its not as funny then, it’s time for parents to be parents and not your kids best friends. When my girls were younger (like 4 or 5) and just starting school and I would get onto to them and whip them they would tell me I’m not your friend, and my reply was, good cause I’m your mama and I love you and you are going to mind. Children will be children but we have to train them. So what are you teaching your children today? Good or Evil?

  19. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

Moms we must be careful the advice/counsel that we give our children. We must line it up with the Word of God: What does Jesus say about it? Is it positive or negative? Will it get my child to Heaven? Will it take my child to hell?

Too many times we give them our opinion without seeking Godly wisdom what effect our opinion will have on them. We may be shining negative light on the church or the church leadership. We may be pointing them in the direction of the world instead of the altar and the cross.

We must eek the Lord so that the words of our mouth and meditations of our heart are acceptable in His sight always so that we don’t lead our families down a path of spiritual destruction.

  20. 2 Chronicles 22:10-11
    10) But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.
    11) But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.

“Athaliah arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah (she was trying to destroy a Promise), BUT Jehoshabeath, took Joash (a part of the Promise), and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain.”
The PROMISE that God gave to David in 2 Samuel 7 is Still Alive through a small child named Joash.
The enemy is only out to kill, to steal, and to destroy. He wants to kill, to steal, and to destroy our PROMISE/PROMISES from God. BUT we must be like Jehoshabeath, and Take Back our PROMISE/PROMISES God has made to us.
We may not always understand the PROCESS to the PROMISE, but Don’t Let Your PROMISE Die!!

“For all the PROMISES of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”

    GOD Give Me My Mountain!!

  21. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

Although it is wise to seek advice, we must also be wise in who we choose to give that advice. If the people we go to seek direction from are wicked then that is the only path they can lead us down. Be carful who you let lead you.

6 And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick.

When we turn away from God, it will always end in pain and scars and to overcome that we have to go back to where we first found Him and begin our walk with Jesus Christ all over again. Lord help me to never lose sight of you, my first love!!

  22. 3 Ahaziah also followed the evil example of King Ahab’s family, for his mother encouraged him in doing wrong. 4 He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, just as Ahab’s family had done. They even became his advisers after the death of his father, and they led him to ruin.

  23. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

4 Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.

We must be cautios who we allow to have a say and speak into our lives. You may say but it was family…but Jesus answered that question, who is may family? Who is my brother or mother, but they that do the will of the Lord they are my family. Its a tough decision to make, but aling it all with the word of God. We have seen examples here of kings that had to go against their kin to do that which is commanded. Is it in the book? What does the word say. We must be ready to contend for the faith and stand on the Word of God. Be watchful of those who have influence over you and lead you. By their fruits you shall know them.

  24. Protecting the blood line.

Wow. With out this action. Judah would have stopped. Sometimes we need to protect our praise. Because this world doesn’t understand why we do things or why we respond the way that we do. Protect Judah

  25. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.
4 Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.

As people we are continually. Seeking man’s approval. Here is a prime example of what happens when we seek man’a favor and approval, rather than Christ’s.

  26. “He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.” The word of God (Jesus) records the source. One that would hinder one from doing what is right should be avoided. Likewise so should one that threatens ones walk with hurtful words, deeds, or actions; however one that knows to do right and does not, assumes responsibility. Dear God (Judge), help us to avoid wicked counsel and treat others as you would. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  27. “But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.” Joash survived because of the actions of Jehoshabeath; however the Lord made her actions possible. We are too do what is right in the sight of the Lord; however we should be mindful of where the recognition goes. God let us never forget that all glory and praise is yours alone, in Jesus name.

  28. 7 And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

He was anointed for the purpose of cutting off the house of Ahab. We too have been anointed for the purpose of cutting off satan.

  29. 2 Chronicles 22:10-11 (NLT)
    Queen Athaliah Rules in Judah
10 When Athaliah, the mother of King Ahaziah of Judah, learned that her son was dead, she began to destroy the rest of Judah’s royal family. 11 But Ahaziah’s sister Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram, took Ahaziah’s infant son, Joash, and stole him away from among the rest of the king’s children, who were about to be killed. She put Joash and his nurse in a bedroom. In this way, Jehosheba, wife of Jehoiada the priest and sister of Ahaziah, hid the child so that Athaliah could not murder him.

No matter how bleak it looks God is always able to turn it around. He is the master of saving the day at the last minute. Never give up hope in God. He will always come through.

  30. Many unfortunate events happened in this chapter because of the influence the wicked have. First, he was raised by an ungodly women Athaliah. Second, he was made king by the people not anointed of God. She and other wicked advisors guided him to lead the nation further from God. When he went into battle he was without the Lords covering and unprotected from attack. He lived and died in sin from the influence of his mother and she panicked thinking she would lose control over the kingdom and killed all the princes. All but one God was faithful to keep the seed of David upon the throne. It only takes one no matter how young to take down the plans of the enemy. Situations will work out to God’s glory.

  31. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

4 Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.

    • Moms influence

It’s amazing how we can show our kids even unconsciously. I remember the reason why I was afraid of roaches as a child, eveytime she saw one, she would fear for her life. So us kids took after her, running from the insects terrified. It wasn’t until I was grown that I was able to overcome the fear that my mom had taught me.

So we have to be extra careful what we as adults teach our children, we are setting up for there future.

  32. Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.(2 Chronicles 22:4 KJV

Ahaziah took on the counsellors that Ahab had and did evil in the sight of the Lord. He was well aware they were the cause of Ahab’s death and destruction. Unfortunately he was determined to seek out evil anyhow, turning away from God. It’s a dangerous place to be in authority and away from God. The further away he gets the harder and louder God has to be to get his attention. This is a good reason why we have to be careful to stay within God’s reach and following him.

  33. 11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber.

  34. 10 But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.

No matter how many lives she killed to get her way she didn’t escape God. God knows her intentions , judgement is inevitable and consequences will fall on her.

  35. You must be careful who you listen to. Not everybody is for your well being. This is why it is important to seek wise counsel. When we follow after those that have their own agenda, we loss focus on God’s plan.

  36. v10 Now when Athaliah the mother of Athaliah saw that her son was dead , she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs of the house of Judah.

So thankful to see that the hand of GOD at work as HE brings everything to HIS desired purpose.
We see that Jehoshaphat, hid Josh in the house of GOD for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.

  37. Oh what a temper tantrum.

“But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah. But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭22:10-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Mother’s behavior and counsel is what got her son to the place he was. He was a horrible king because he listened to terrible advice. She created a king who only listened to her counsel. She could have him do whatever she wanted, until he died. Then she thee such a fit that she kill everyone she could find (to ensure she would still get what she wanted). We. Need to carefully judge our actions. How far do we go when we want our own way? How far would we go to make sure everyone knew we were mad?

  38. The Queen started to massacre the royal family when she took over. The lust for power usually corrupts people. Sycophants massacre people through gossip and backbiting. Let us not fall prey to these things. While many do not kill today to reach their goals, they may do other things. The idiom dog eat dog refers tot his type of behavior. It is more common than we like to think.

  39. 4 He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, just as Ahab’s family had done. They even became his advisers after the death of his father, and they led him to ruin. (NLT)

Be careful who you allow to speak into your life and advise you.

  40. 12 And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

If we are honest with ourselves we all hide. Maybe not physically hide our bodies but we hide our true emotions, thoughts and motives. When someone asks you how we are doing, what do we say? “I’m doing great,” or “everything is wonderful.” If we are honest with ourselves, we all hide deep emotional wound in our lives, or a secret sin we are dealing with.

Have you ever hidden anything from the Lord? How do we really do that? You can’t hide anything from the Lord! Yet we all try to do it.

I remember when I was a young man and found myself involved in some things that I really shouldn’t have been involved in. I would hide my Bible. I was hiding from God, though that may have been what I thought. I hid my Bible because the mere sight of it made me feel ashamed. Just like the Woman at the Well in John chapter 4. We too need to let Jesus in to our lives. But not just certain parts of our lives, we need to let him into every aspect, especially the dark closet. If we do that we will find that Jesus is faithful to clean it out and make all things new again, starting with us.

  42. mri. 3Ahaziah also followed the evil example of King Ahab’s family, for his mother encouraged him in doing wrong.

So sad that a mother promotes sin. This still happens today, so we never know may try to lead you into sin. Stay on guard at all times.
