58 All the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon’s servants, were three hundred ninety and two.

59 And these were they which went up from Telmelah, Telharsa, Cherub, Addan, and Immer: but they could not shew their father’s house, and their seed, whether they were of Israel:

60 The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred fifty and two.

61 And of the children of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai; which took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name:

62 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

63 And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and with Thummim.

64 The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,

65 Beside their servants and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and there were among them two hundred singing men and singing women.

66 Their horses were seven hundred thirty and six; their mules, two hundred forty and five;

67 Their camels, four hundred thirty and five; their asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

68 And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the Lord which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:

69 They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments.

70 So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

  1. 61 Three families of priests—Hobaiah, Hakkoz, and Barzillai—also returned. (This Barzillai had married a woman who was a descendant of Barzillai of Gilead, and he had taken her family name.)
62 They searched for their names in the genealogical records, but they were not found, so they were disqualified from serving as priests.
63 The governor told them not to eat the priests’ share of food from the sacrifices until a priest could consult the LORD about the matter by using the Urim and Thummim—the sacred lots. NLT

Get Found! We need to be willing to step forward and in any situation say “Use me, LORD!” We need to continuously humble ourselves and keep our ears and hearts open to what the LORD is wanting to do through us. He is keeping a record of all we do for His Kingdom. On that day of judgement HE will refer to that and say one of two things…”Well done” or “I never knew you”. We don’t do anybody any favors by just showing up to church. There is so much that God can use you for. Stop hiding and get found!

  2. When they arrived at the Temple of the Lord in Jerusalem, some of the family leaders made voluntary offerings toward the rebuilding of God’s Temple on its original site, and each leader gave as much as he could. The total of their gifts came to 61,000 gold coins, 6,250 pounds of silver, and 100 robes for the priests. So the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, the Temple servants, and some of the common people settled in villages near Jerusalem. The rest of the people returned to their own towns throughout Israel.
    Ezra 2:68‭-‬70 NLT

    They gave all they got
They gave their first and last

  3. 61 And of the children of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai; which took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name:
62 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

Falling away from godly values and godly living has affected the children of the priesthood. Same today, the children get sent mixed messages and may end up losing their place in God when parents stray from the truth. We need strong Christian homes…especially today for our children to succeed in living for God.

  4. Ezra 2:61 And from among the priests the descendants of Hobaiah, Hakkoz and Barilla I a man who had married a daughter of Barilla I the Gilead item and was called by that name. These searched for their family records but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean. The governor ordered them not to eat of the most sacred food until there was a priest ministering with the Urim and Thummim.

  5. ..69 They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments.

70 So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

God is just looking for someone to use the ability he gave them for the work of God. Every talent we have was meant somehow to used for his glory.

  6. INVOLVEMENT

69 They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments.

In the testimony of the great revival. Those that had been led away captive were returning home. But they did not come empty handed as victims, but everyone brought an offering.

The detailed attendance records are forever settled. Every family was recognized, this teaches us the value of being counted. Moreover, they gave after their ability.

This is the principal by which GOD measures our giving. The TITHE belongs to the LORD and was no doubt presented to the LORD. We witness here a simple plan of total INVOLVEMENT in the offering.

If EVERYONE “gave after their ability” the house of the LORD would be in abundance. Let us each examine our commitment to giving and ensure that we are giving after our ability of Time, Talent and Treasure.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  7. 68 And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the Lord which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:

69 They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments.

70 So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

  8. 70 So the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, the Temple servants, and some of the common people settled in villages near Jerusalem. The rest of the people returned to their own towns throughout Israel. (NLT)

If we desire to serve the Lord, we should likewise desire to stay close to the house of God and the people of God. Though it’s good to go out into the fields and work the day, it’s equally important to come home to Gods house where the family is of like faith and we can encourage one another in word and testimony.

  9. Babylon is a type and shadow of “the world.” When the people were carried away to Babylon they didn’t hold on to the principles of the Lord that they had been taught, they let them go and they picked up things of this world for pleasure. The saddest part is not only did it effect them, it effected entire generations.

We must be careful what we allow in our lives, because not only does it effect us, but it effects our children and their children. They say something his lost in every generation.

For instance if I take the liberty to shorten my skirts to right above my knee, the generation that follows me what take the liberty to go 1″ above the knee, and the next generation 2″ above the knee, so before you know it mini skirts on Godly christian women would be acceptable. Silly illustration but so applicable to many situations.

You may remove something that seems unimportant to you, but it might be the only keeping the next generation tied to holy, Godly principles that are important to the Lord.

  10. 62 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

These weren’t just individuals affected but entire families. The genealogy is important, the fathers name is what ties us together as family. Being born again into Jesus makes us sons and daughters of the king. How many pastors and congregations are living alongside us but when it comes time to go home won’t be able to find their genealogy with the father because the name was neglected? The name is important!

  11. Gives new meaning to making anlist and checking it twice. Never really gave importance to the fact of writing things down, to listing your family, and knowing your legacy until I hit that stage of no self identity. It was so very hard not knowing exactly where I came from, who were my ancestors, and what will my children inherit. Now, I am the daughter of the most high King, will inherit all the riches in heaven by Christ Jesus, honored by a great legacy. Now that I know how important it is I am trying to build our family tree and there is so much I am missing because most of the elders are gone and that valueble information is gone with them so parents let’s keep the record of our family registry for you never know when it will come in handy. I am proud of anPastor that knew the importance of knowing who comes in and out of His Temple!!!

  12. 69 They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments.
In this verse we see that everybody gave something according to their ability. We must stand ready and willing to give as well according to what God has given us. We must share our time, talent and treasure for the sake of the kingdom.

  13. Give……..

68 And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the Lord which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:

  14. Ezra 2:61-62 (AMP)
    61) Of the sons of the priests: the sons of Hobaiah, of Hakkoz, and of Barzillal, who took a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and he was known by their name.
    62) These searched (for their names) among those registered in the genealogies, but they were not found, so they were excluded from the priesthood as (ceremonially) unclean.

Whose name are you known by?
Perhaps the reason Barzillal’s name was not found in the rigistery of genealogies was because he had taken a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite and was known by their name. He wasn’t know by the right name.
All of us who have been baptized in Christ have put on Christ. Therefore we have taken on His name. We are called a Royal Priesthood, and our names are written down in the Lambs Book of Life.

  15. 68 And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the Lord which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:

69 They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments.

  16. 68 And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the Lord which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:

In order for God to set up His place, we must be willing to give.

  17. iLove to Grow in the Word
68When they arrived at the Temple of the lord in Jerusalem, some of the family leaders made voluntary offerings toward the rebuilding of God’s Temple on its original site, 69and each leader gave as much as he could. The total of their gifts came to 61,000 gold coins, 6,250 pounds of silver, and 100 robes for the priests.

Wow, these leaders were looking to be a blessing to the house of the Lord. They gave as much as they could and were not looking for a hand out. The Temple was made for sacrifices to God.

  18. 69 They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments.

    Give, Give, Give!

  19. The congregation was ready to sing unto the Lord. When enter the sanctuary, we should come with a song in our heart. We don’t have time to allow the enemy any type of space to enter in.

  20. 62 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

63 And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and with Thummim.

It would be foolish to think we do not need a pastor or “priest” for he is the one that helps lead us back to the place of promise.

How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Romans 10:14

And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
    Jeremiah 3:15

  21. Revelation 20:12 (KJV Strong’s)
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

  22. they gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work, oh how much ability do we really have and not realize it. if we can only tell jesus here’s my hands and here are my feet help me lord. j. soliz

  23. 68 And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the Lord which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:

69 They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments.

70 So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

  24. 1 Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city;

And came again unto Jerusalem… This verse stood out to me as it made me think of those that are on bondage now that once belonged to thd house of God. They are coming back home. They are coming back from their captivities and will serve the Lord.

  25. “The children of”. The word of God (Jesus) records their children. One should focus and instruct on what is important, and not on one’s own agenda, elsewise the children may never know. Unfortunately this is true today as many do not know who God is, or the beginning if it was never passed on. Dear God, help us to teach and pass along how it all began. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  26. “Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city”. The Lord had delivered them once; however their actions caused them to return unto captivity. We should consider the consequences, as sin will only result in returning unto captivity. God let our focus be on you only, in Jesus name.

  27. Can’t wait to start seeing this in Los Pentecostales de Fort Worth an abundance of spiritual children being taught and bringing forth more children. I can also picture God telling us the amount of spiritual children we reached for His kingdom. My heart rejoices because we have an amazing Pastor guiding us in taking care of these spiritual children. It’s been a short journey so far and seen many children leave or not want God and it’s been hard but God didn’t bring us here to fail, in order to get oil it’s must be crushed. So I know we will see and experience many things but I serve a high, mighty, powerful, omnipotent, omnipresent God. I can do ALL things thru Him that gives me strength. The harvest is there and we will keep going, and going, and going, and going, and going, and going and reaching those souls that are hungry for Jesus!!! Thank you Pastor and Sis Watts!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!! YOUR JUST SO AMAZING!!!!!

  28. Upon return the people gave free will offerings as they were able so that the temple could be rebuilt. The exhale had ended and they now sought to restore their religious worship.

  29. This chapter reminded me of people coming home (backsliders). There are so many that have left and are caught up in this world; but, we must continue to pray for them. For there is room in the House of God for everybody.

  30. 1Here is the list of the Jewish exiles of the provinces who returned from their captivity. King Nebuchadnezzar had deported them to Babylon, but now they returned to Jerusalem and the other towns in Judah where they originally lived.

Even though we may leave the church at any time, we are always welcomed back. No matter how long or where we went too, God will take us in his arms.

  31. “They sang [responsively], praising and giving thanks to the LORD, saying, “For He is good, for His lovingkindness (mercy) toward Israel endures forever.” And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the LORD because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.”
    ‭‭EZRA‬ ‭3:11‬ ‭AMP‬‬

What joy and excitement to have the opportunity to rebuild the temple.

  32. 69 They gave after their ability…

Every person cannot give the same amount, but every person can give. “They gave after their ability.”
In 1 Corinthians 16:2 NET On the first day of the week, each of you should set aside some income and save it to the extent that God has blessed you

We understand that God and His kingdom are spiritual in nature and though we are set apart we must remain here on earth until He calls us home. Thus, while here on earth we must manage our money. Sometimes, our emotions can get us into trouble. I have learned that emotional giving is dangerous. We are not listening to God but our convictions or our guilt to buy our redemption. This cannot be done. The only thing giving emotionally will do is create more heartache.

Learn the voice of the Lord and when that voice urges us to give a certain amount we can then rest assured the Lord will bless our giving but protect us from the devourer.
