Ezra 5

1 Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them.

2 Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.

3 At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?

4 Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?

5 But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.

6 The copy of the letter that Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai and his companions the Apharsachites, which were on this side the river, sent unto Darius the king:

7 They sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto Darius the king, all peace.

8 Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.

9 Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?

10 We asked their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them.

11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.

12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.

13 But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God.

14 And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;

15 And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.

16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.

17 Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king’s treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.

  1. v1Then the prophet Haggai and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophets prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them.

    JESUS POSSESSES ALL AUTHORITY.

  2. Those things that are sacred and holy must be protected. The things of God are holy and will always find it’s way to a holy place.

  3. In the MSG version this chapter begins with the caption “The Building Resumed: “Help the Leaders in the Rebuilding”. Verses 1-2 says “Meanwhile the prophets Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo were preaching to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem in the authority of the God of Israel who ruled them. And so Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak started again, rebuilding The Temple of God in Jerusalem. The prophets of God were right there helping them.” It is not only a time to help POFW; but, a time to support and encourage as the AMP says. As an old Sunday School song says:

    Building up the temple
    Building up the temple
We’re building up the temple for the Lord

    Brother come and help me
    Sister come and help me
We’re building up the Temple for the Lord

  4. 9“We asked the leaders, ‘Who gave you permission to rebuild this Temple and restore this structure?’
10 And we demanded their names so that we could tell you who the leaders were.
11“This was their answer: ‘We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding the Temple that was built here many years ago by a great king of Israel.
16 So this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the Temple of God in Jerusalem. The people have been working on it ever since, though it is not yet completed.’
17 “Therefore, if it pleases the king, we request that a search be made in the royal archives of Babylon to discover whether King Cyrus ever issued a decree to rebuild God’s Temple in Jerusalem. And then let the king send us his decision in this matter.”
    NLT

  5. Ezra 5:8 (NLT)
“The king should know that we went to the construction site of the temple of the great God in the province of Judah. It is being rebuilt with specially prepared stones, and timber is being laid in its walls. The work is going forward with great energy and success.”

We are building a church of the GREAT GOD in the city of Fort Worth.
Phase 1 is done, and Phase 2 is coming. May the WORK at POFW continue to Go Forward with Great Energy and Success.

  6. 16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.

    Stopped at the foundation

Too often the foundation of a relationship with God is laid yet the people walk away never to return and build upon the foundation.

As the church that will play a key role in this last day Revival. We must feel the urgency of the hour and walk in the spirit. For it is important for us to teach others how to build upon the foundation adding to their faith patience.

Let us also guard ourselves from complacency. It would be easy for some to say well at least there is a foundation. Yet God did not commission us for the “least” but to the “uttermost!”

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. —Acts 1:8

  7. 1 Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them.

4 Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?

Who commanded you to build the temple? Give me there names?
Some people will never get involved they will just Always question
what is going on around the church. The more we become involved in the kingdom the less questions we will ask. We will know the who what and when’s of building up the temple. It’s time to quit requesting the names of who told them to do that why are they doing that and get involved. The hour is short and the temple has got to be built.

  8. 5 But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.

8 Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.

The Lord was with them in accomplishing their goal. They were not working out of their own flesh but the will of God. The work prospered and was going quickly because of their submission to God, being in line with Gods will, and willingness to work.

  9. Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.

3 At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this
    Get up and do something!
I applaud these young man. Because they saw a need and they rose up to help that need. They did not leave the house of God in shambles but instead they bonded together rose up and determined to build the house of the Lord. Not only that but when others saw their hard work and labor they did not leave them there to work by themselves but instead they helped. Even the prophets applied themselves to the building. In the kingdom of God sometimes we must just step up and do something don’t wait for someone else to do it for you!

  10. THE NEED AND CAUSE OF REVIVAL

9 Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?

This is a question that we must first answer in our heart and mind. On what or who’s authority do we Build the Kingdom of GOD. (The Church). Our knowledge of history is important to affirm our testimony.

The apostle Peter affirms the need for knowledge:
1Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Facts are convincing and our response is persuasive.

11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.

    REVIVAL NOW

We are servants of the GOD of heaven and earth and we are NOW restoring the things of GOD to their original condition or state. This is the attitude and spirit that I speak over The POFW for the upcoming Revival NOW conference. As the Leaders at The POFW refocus, recommit and rebuild our relationship and commitment to JESUS and Building HIS Kingdom. Revival NOW will be the natural attrition of the process of “Restoring that which once was”.

I pray today that we do not miss this opportunity to be in our place and fulfill our call to serve the most high GOD in HIS Kingdom.

May the testimony and report be accurate about The POFW as well.

8 Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.

The WORK goeth fast and prosperity in their hands.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  11. 8 Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.

9 Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?

What God has called us will prosper despite what words can be said against it or those that lack the understanding of what he called us to do.

  12. Just do it.

Who told them? Who told them to work? God had called them out and gave them a charge to build. So they were sent by God himself to build. The vision of POFW, is to impact lives to change the world. We impact by doing. Now that we are “out in the public eye.” We must understand that excellence is key. We are impacting our community by doing. Don’t give up or let up.

Look up, Get up, and Don’t Ever Give Up!

    Be blessed

  13. iLove to Grow in the Word

8“The king should know that we went to the construction site of the Temple of the great God in the province of Judah. It is being rebuilt with specially prepared stones, and timber is being laid in its walls. The work is going forward with great energy and success.

Wow, whenever focus is made on rebuilding the temple the devil’s code compliance team runs onto the scene. This could be in the physical realm and reminds me of the church being built on the new property. There was much opposition because the spirit realm was troubled.

Not only are we talking about physical buildings of stone and concrete however, but the devil’s code compliance team also attacks the church when the man of God attempts to lead it into revival to repair the spiritual state of it. When the man of God leads the congregation into more prayer and more bible reading there is that mean ole code compliance devil knocking on the door giving him a “red tag.” On the red tag it reads “Violation, Stop Praying Immediately!” Then the inspector sends word to the king of darkness and the king of darkness sends those who would try to intimidate the man of God with complaints, demands, and complaining.

But I say, “Oh man of God, “Just keep building, just keep praying, just keep blogging, and just keep building…” Because just as the code compliance offical is subject to the city council, so is the code compliance devil subject to the church when the Church humbles itself and turns to God.

  14. 16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.

Everything we do starts with the foundation of God, and we must build upon it for spiritual and mental success.

  15. 11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.

12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.

It’s start with us Revival now

  16. 12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.

The Israelites provoked God in their continual backsliding from His ways under the leadership of evil kings. God allowed them to be carried into Babylon.

We must be very cautious that we not overtaken by an evil spirit that would provoke God to turn us over to a reprobate mind. If we dabble in a “rebellious” spirit enough that spirit will overtake us and we will be deceived.

Psalms 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

  17. 11 “This was their answer: ‘We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding the Temple that was built here many years ago by a great king of Israel. (NLT)

They’re first response was “we are servants of the God of heaven and earth.” That is the ultimate reason for why we do what we do, the reason we live, because we are His servants. We may be subject to earthly authorities just as these were to the king of the land, but they did not hesitate to inform this king who they serve first and foremost. When someone asks, “why do you…?” Because I serve the God of heaven and earth!! That’s why.

  18. 8 Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.

We still have work to do at the Pentecostals of Fort Worth. We have our building but it’s still not filled up. GOD help me to work while it’s day because the night is coming when time will be no more.

  19. 2 Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.
3 At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?
Keep your eyes on the prize!

  20. 10 We asked their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them. 11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.

The word of God (Jesus) identifies humbleness and integrity. They were humble in that they did not make it about self; whereas they demonstrated integrity in not releasing others names. One should always be careful, as all glory is God’s (Creator) and never the creation. One should also be cautious of one that lacks integrity. Dear God, bless us with humbleness and integrity. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  21. “But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.” The Lord made it possible; therefore it was unstoppable. What the Lord makes possible will always be accomplished, similarly what he allows will also. Unfortunately the two can often appear alike, which is why we should pray and seek his will. God let us comprehend and let your will be done, in Jesus name.

  22. 5 But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.

When God is for us, who can be against us? Being in God’s will brings his divine intervention when the enemy comes against us. It doesn’t mean we wont have road blocks, it just means he will make a way when we may not see a way to accomplish what he has set for us to. We must grow and labor for the kingdom of God, building his house for this region.

  23. 16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished

When building a building you must always start with a strong foundation or it will never stand, It’s the same way in a relationship. When it comes to our relationship with God we must make sure we have strong foundation so that when things get tough it will not collapse!

  24. 16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.
    Reminds of the kids song:
The wise man built his house upon the rock
The wise man built his house upon the rock
The wise man built his house upon the rock
and the rains came tumbling down,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
and the rains came tumbling down,
the rains came down and the floods came up, the rains came down and the floods came up, and the wise man’s house stood firm
and the foolish man’s house went “SPLAT”!
I know that may be a silly illustration but what is you house built on today? Is your house built on a solid foundation where it can handle trails, and hurts, or is it like the foolish man when you get your feelings hurt you are going to duck your head and leave. It’s time to stand firm on a solid foundation and let God be our guide!

  25. 11“This was their answer: ‘We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding the Temple that was built here many years ago by a great king of Israel.

Each one of us are servants to the Lord. We must remember to serve, pray and testify others. Be ready to serve during any service when needed.

  26. Ezra 5:5 (NLT)
5 But because their God was watching over them, the leaders of the Jews were not prevented from building until a report was sent to Darius and he returned his decision.

Because God was watching over them they still needed to follow the chain of command, and submit to authority. Even though it was God’s will they still had to talk to Darius.

This proves that we can’t live our lives submitted to God and not listed to those in authority God places in our lives.

Darius wasn’t even a Jew. He wasn’t “saved.” But God still required them to ask.

  27. At that time the prophets Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem. They prophesied in the name of the God of Israel who was over them. Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jehozadak responded by starting again to rebuild the Temple of God in Jerusalem. And the prophets of God were with them and helped them.
    Ezra 5:1‭-‬2 NLT

It should be that the Word of God should cause us to be go and be moved to action. Wether to repentance by conviction or to make some changes in your life or whatever it is the messgae is alive and is speaking to your heart. We are to be doers of the Word and not just hearers.

  28. 9 Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?

Who has commanded us to build this house and make up these walls. Who are we under, are we doing things on our own, or under the umbrella of our Pastor. We must be at our post and do our job not other peoples job. We’re Going to be giving God accountability for everything we did and didn’t do. We must see things spiritually and be sensitive to the Lord.

  29. Decrees in Babylon could not be revoked. They were the final verdict. When the king made the decree, 2nd temple Judaism was in the making. The people would soon have a temple again.

  30. 11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.

12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.

  31. 11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.

It’s kind of like the authorities, the code inspectors shown up at a job site. They could have conjured up a lie, and try to get away with building the house of God by lying to the authorities. They maned up and were truthful about what they were doing.

There’s nothing better than telling the truth. When you start a lie you set yourself up to cover it up with more lies. They should’ve had the Kings permission and blessing to start the project again. We are always subject to the authorities that govern over us and like Christ said “give unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s.”

  32. Why?
17 Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king’s treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.

Were these people just being nosy? Were they being greedy of the treasures taken by Nebuchadnezzar and not wanting their loot plundered for reconstruction efforts? I believe this is the true case behind their nosiness. If the reconstruction efforts used only newly gained resources instead of treasures taken by Nebuchadnezzar there would have been no issue with the rebuild. Since the piles of gold and silver were being used – under the proposed authority of Cyrus – Tatnai and his band of thugs wanted to go and tattle.

Why do we humans feel we need to stick our nose in things that have nothing to do with us? Our nosiness can get us into so much trouble.

  33. “If it pleases you, King Darius, let a search be made in the official records of the kings of Babylonia. Find out whether King Cyrus really did give an order to rebuild this house of God in Jerusalem. Then tell us what you decide to do.”
    ‭‭Ezra‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Records can serve is great purpose. In the valleys we can reach back and see how God has been on our side. They can be use to encourage us and remind us of the goodness of God.
