Nehemiah 7

1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

2 That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

3 And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house.

4 Now the city was large and great: but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.

5 And my God put into mine heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of them which came up at the first, and found written therein,

6 These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city;

7 Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this;

8 The children of Parosh, two thousand an hundred seventy and two.

9 The children of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy and two.

10 The children of Arah, six hundred fifty and two.

11 The children of Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand and eight hundred and eighteen.

12 The children of Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty and four.

13 The children of Zattu, eight hundred forty and five.

14 The children of Zaccai, seven hundred and threescore.

15 The children of Binnui, six hundred forty and eight.

16 The children of Bebai, six hundred twenty and eight.

17 The children of Azgad, two thousand three hundred twenty and two.

18 The children of Adonikam, six hundred threescore and seven.

19 The children of Bigvai, two thousand threescore and seven.

20 The children of Adin, six hundred fifty and five.

21 The children of Ater of Hezekiah, ninety and eight.

22 The children of Hashum, three hundred twenty and eight.

23 The children of Bezai, three hundred twenty and four.

24 The children of Hariph, an hundred and twelve.

25 The children of Gibeon, ninety and five.

26 The men of Bethlehem and Netophah, an hundred fourscore and eight.

27 The men of Anathoth, an hundred twenty and eight.

28 The men of Bethazmaveth, forty and two.

29 The men of Kirjathjearim, Chephirah, and Beeroth, seven hundred forty and three.

30 The men of Ramah and Gaba, six hundred twenty and one.

31 The men of Michmas, an hundred and twenty and two.

32 The men of Bethel and Ai, an hundred twenty and three.

33 The men of the other Nebo, fifty and two.

34 The children of the other Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty and four.

35 The children of Harim, three hundred and twenty.

36 The children of Jericho, three hundred forty and five.

37 The children of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred twenty and one.

38 The children of Senaah, three thousand nine hundred and thirty.

39 The priests: the children of Jedaiah, of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred seventy and three.

40 The children of Immer, a thousand fifty and two.

41 The children of Pashur, a thousand two hundred forty and seven.

42 The children of Harim, a thousand and seventeen.

43 The Levites: the children of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, and of the children of Hodevah, seventy and four.

44 The singers: the children of Asaph, an hundred forty and eight.

45 The porters: the children of Shallum, the children of Ater, the children of Talmon, the children of Akkub, the children of Hatita, the children of Shobai, an hundred thirty and eight.

46 The Nethinims: the children of Ziha, the children of Hashupha, the children of Tabbaoth,

47 The children of Keros, the children of Sia, the children of Padon,

48 The children of Lebana, the children of Hagaba, the children of Shalmai,

49 The children of Hanan, the children of Giddel, the children of Gahar,

50 The children of Reaiah, the children of Rezin, the children of Nekoda,

51 The children of Gazzam, the children of Uzza, the children of Phaseah,

52 The children of Besai, the children of Meunim, the children of Nephishesim,

53 The children of Bakbuk, the children of Hakupha, the children of Harhur,

54 The children of Bazlith, the children of Mehida, the children of Harsha,

55 The children of Barkos, the children of Sisera, the children of Tamah,

56 The children of Neziah, the children of Hatipha.

57 The children of Solomon’s servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Perida,

58 The children of Jaala, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel,

59 The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth of Zebaim, the children of Amon.

60 All the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon’s servants, were three hundred ninety and two.

61 And these were they which went up also from Telmelah, Telharesha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer: but they could not shew their father’s house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel.

62 The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred forty and two.

63 And of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai, which took one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called after their name.

64 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

65 And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.

66 The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,

67 Beside their manservants and their maidservants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred forty and five singing men and singing women.

68 Their horses, seven hundred thirty and six: their mules, two hundred forty and five:

69 Their camels, four hundred thirty and five: six thousand seven hundred and twenty asses.

70 And some of the chief of the fathers gave unto the work. The Tirshatha gave to the treasure a thousand drams of gold, fifty basons, five hundred and thirty priests’ garments.

71 And some of the chief of the fathers gave to the treasure of the work twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand and two hundred pound of silver.

72 And that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand pound of silver, and threescore and seven priests’ garments.

73 So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinims, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.

  1. 1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

Right off the bat the verse shows that everybody has a duty in the kingdom. If your doing works your doing something right either helping with ministry or cleaning it all matters.

  2. 1 After the wall was finished and I had set up the doors in the gates, the gatekeepers, singers, and Levites were appointed. (NLT)

We’ve all been apppointed, let’s go to work!

  3. Nehemiah 7:3 (NIV)
“I said to them, The gates of Jerusalem are not be opened until the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are still on duty, have them shut the doors and bar them. Also appoint residents of Jerusalem as guards, some at their posts and some near their own homes.”

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Prov. 4:23 -NIV)
“Set a guard over my mouth, LORD, keep watch over the door of my lips.” (Ps. 141:3 -NIV)
We need to always GUARD our Hearts and Lips. “… For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” (St. Luke 6:45)

We must always be on Guard!

  4. After the wall was rebuilt and I had installed the doors, and the security guards, the singers, and the Levites were appointed, I put my brother Hanani, along with Hananiah the captain of the citadel, in charge of Jerusalem because he was an honest man and feared God more than most men.

  5. 1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed
4 Now the city was large and great: but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.
-And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.-Genesis 2:15
Since the beginning we were appointed, have a bless day😊!

  6. 2. That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

The first two traits he was looking for in a leader were faithfulness and fear of God.

  7. iLove to Grow in the Word
1After the wall was finished and I had set up the doors in the gates, the gatekeepers, singers, and Levites were appointed. 2I gave the responsibility of governing Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, along with Hananiah, the commander of the fortress, for he was a faithful man who feared God more than most. 3I said to them, “Do not leave the gates open during the hottest part of the day. And even while the gatekeepers are on duty, have them shut and bar the doors. Appoint the residents of Jerusalem to act as guards, everyone on a regular watch. Some will serve at sentry posts and some in front of their own homes.”

Ha, we think the world is bad today…even thousands of years ago they were facing the same challenges as we face today. Thank goodness they had a man of God that was full of wisdom. It takes wisdom and security to run the house of God…the devil comes to kill, steal, and destroy but the man of God puts a club to the head of the bad guy. 🙂

They COULD NOT be partakers of Anything until ttheir roots were found out,
This is how it will be on That last day, of your name isn’t written in THE BOOK OF LIFE……….

  9. DISMISSED FROM MINISTRY

64 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

The Kingdom of GOD as with any valid government or organization, utilizes the principal of guidelines and requirements. When we consider the implications of eternity in heaven or hell. We should also expect and comply with a government that protects us spiritually.

    NLT
Nehemiah 7:64 They searched for their names in the genealogical records, but they were not found, so they were disqualified from serving as priests.

We learn from this passage that it is possible for people to pose as ministers that are not prepared, committed or qualified to be ministers. In time of restoration they referred back to the records. A Ministers calling will most definitely burden him with the responsibility of the people, place and position of Ministry. A call from GOD connects us to his agenda; not our own, we GO when he says GO.

We must FIRST assure that our name is in the lambs book of life, the registry of the New Birth into HIS Kingdom. Born of the water and the Spirit. Then those that are called to Ministry must accept and meet a higher calling to responsibility and GOD affirms the records. Everyone is called to minister but not everyone is called to the ministry.

JESUS help us to stay connected to your Kingdom that our names may be found in your registry, at whatever level we are connected in JESUS name.

  10. 64 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

Once we have the name, we are no longer polluted and we have a genealogy that can be traced back through Christ.

  11. 1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

Everyone will see The power of. Jesus Christ

  12. 1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

2 That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

Faithful to God. If you are to be over many you must begin by being faithful to God and man. Faithful in a little ruler over much!

  13. A name not in the book

“They looked high and low for their family records but couldn’t find them. And so they were barred from priestly work as ritually unclean. The governor ruled that they could not eat from the holy food until a priest could determine their status by using the Urim and Thummim.”
    ‭‭Nehemiah‬ ‭7:64-65‬ ‭MSG‬‬

What a horrific sobering thought that my name would not be found in the book. What else is there to say? I cannot think of a worse feeling of being forces to watch as my fellow brothers and sisters receive their heavenly reward – fully expecting to receive my reward – only to find that my name is not in the book.

    God help me.

  14. 1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

There is a time and place for everything. Don’t rush God’s will.

  15. Nehemiah 7:5 (MSG)
5 God put it in my heart to gather the nobles, the officials, and the people in general to be registered. I found the genealogical record of those who were in the first return from exile. This is the record I found:

Every number matters, and every number represents a name. God cares about about his people. He cares where they are and what they are doing. He wants his people safe, and also partakers of his blessings.

When the trumpet sounds and heaven opens only those numbered, whose name is written in the lamb’s book of life will enter into eternity with the Lord.

This is a biblical principle that we implement, not for bragging rights, but rather to say that we truly care about the ones God sends our way.

  16. 2 That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many

You want yo be used of God here are two things to make note off. Be faithful and fear God.

    Proverbs 20:6

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

  17. 3 And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house.

In this text, every inhabitant of Jerusalem had a watch over the city. So basically every man that lived in Jerusalem also had the job keeping a watch over the city. Just like in the church, every one that goes is a watcher, watching out for things in the spirit.

  18. Nehemiah 7:5 (MSG)
5 God put it in my heart to gather the nobles, the officials, and the people in general to be registered. I found the genealogical record of those who were in the first return from exile. This is the record I found:
this verse is another testament to how God feels about numbers. God wants us to know who is there and who is not and what’s that type of information to matter to us. If it matters to God it should matter to us…

  19. We are gonna build a wall. This chapter reminds me of Trump’s campaign. Seriously, that is what I was thinking about.

In other thoughts, Nehemiah is a great study for strategic leadership. He developed a plan, got the resources together, and restored the wall. In the ancient near east, the walls of a city protected the people from wildlife and other tribes. By rebuilding the wall, the people moved in a positive way to reposition themselves as a nation.

  20. “And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house.” The word of God (Jesus) identified when the gates were too be opened and in their closing. There was a reason for concern and caution, which there was wisdom shown. Dear God, help us in seeing the importance and significance. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  21. “These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.” They could not prove their genealogy; therefore they were prohibited. While we may or may not be able to prove our earthly genealogy, we must obey the word of the Lord so that we can be found in his register. God help us to do what is necessary so that we can be accounted in your records, in Jesus name.

  22.  1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

2 That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

We are appointed to work in his kingdom and fear and serve the lord!

  23. Everyone has a place and duty (work) to be done in the kingdom of God. The Lord has blessed us all with something that we can do for His kingdom; we just have to be willing and make ourselves available to be used.

  24. “The wall had been rebuilt. I had put up the gates at the main entrances to the city. Those who guarded the gates were appointed to their positions. So were the singers and Levites.

Jerusalem was large. It had a lot of room. But only a few people lived there. The houses hadn’t been rebuilt yet.”
    ‭‭Nehemiah‬ ‭7:1, 4‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

The walls were rebuilt before they rebuilt houses.
Thy Will be done! Let me decrease and God increase! God is first!

  25. Nehemiah 7:65 The governor, therefore, ordered them not to eat any of the most sacred food until there should be a priest ministering with the Urim and Thummim.

Do not minister without the will of God at hand.

  26. 3 And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house.

The people were posted to watch over the city and their own homes from attack of the enemy. Everyone had their place to defend. We must watch over this city and defend it with prayer as well as pray over our homes from the attack of the enemy. As we pray over this region, many backsliders will come back home and we will see a great harvest of souls.

  27. 1 After the wall was finished and I had set up the doors in the gates, the gatekeepers, singers, and Levites were appointed.

Now they are ready to give praise to the Lord. For what ever blessing we receive, we should be ready to give a praise unto the Lord.

  28. “And these were they which went up also from Tel–melah, Tel–harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer: but they could not shew their father’s house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel. The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred forty and two. And of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai, which took one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called after their name. These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.”
    ‭‭Nehemiah‬ ‭7:61-64‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Oh I wonder if it will be this way for those who die but have not gone through the new birth expirence.

“Yes, my records show that you have been baptized, but I don’t see the name applied so we can’t prove your genealogy. I see your service record too, I just can’t prove who your father is.”

  29. 64 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

They searched the register to find their name on the list. My prayer is that I search my heart each day to ensure the bitterness, bad attitudes, deception is not blocking my name from being on the register of LIFE at that great white throne judgement.
