Esther 2

1 After these things, when the wrath of king Ahasuerus was appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.

2 Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king:

3 And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the palace, to the house of the women, unto the custody of Hege the king’s chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for purification be given them:

4 And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.

5 Now in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;

6 Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.

7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter.

8 So it came to pass, when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together unto Shushan the palace, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was brought also unto the king’s house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.

9 And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him; and he speedily gave her her things for purification, with such things as belonged to her, and seven maidens, which were meet to be given her, out of the king’s house: and he preferred her and her maids unto the best place of the house of the women.

10 Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it.

11 And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women’s house, to know how Esther did, and what should become of her.

12 Now when every maid’s turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the purifying of the women;)

13 Then thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king’s house.

14 In the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name.

15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.

16 So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

18 Then the king made a great feast unto all his princes and his servants, even Esther’s feast; and he made a release to the provinces, and gave gifts, according to the state of the king.

19 And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordecai sat in the king’s gate.

20 Esther had not yet shewed her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her: for Esther did the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him.

21 In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus.

22 And the thing was known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mordecai’s name.

23 And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.

  1. In this chapter, it reminded me about the favor that Pastor spoke about last night. Verse 9 AMP says “Now the young woman pleased Hegai and found favor with him. So he quickly provided her with beauty preparations and her [portion of] food, and he gave her seven choice maids from the king’s palace; then he transferred her and her maids to the best place in the harem.” Verse 15 AMP “Now as for Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai who had taken her in as his [own] daughter, when her turn came to go in to the king, she requested nothing except what Hegai the king’s eunuch [and attendant] who was in charge of the women, advised. And Esther found favor in the sight of all who saw her.” Verse 17 AMP “Now the king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she found favor and kindness with him more than all the [other] virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen in the place of Vashti.” Later on this favor will bring Queen Esther to a decision that can cost her, her position and her life.

  2. One of my favorite stories…the first beauty pageant. There was all types of arraignments for women to wear to look beautiful for the king, but Esther refused to allow anything to alter her appearance. When we stand our ground on our convictions, not only does it glorify God, but he allows favor where we need it. Regardless of what things might stand against us.

  3. 17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

  4. 18. Then the king prepared a large banquet for all his officials and his servants-it was actually Esther’s banquet. He also set aside a holiday for the provinces, and he provided for offerings at the king’s expense. NET

Vashti was removed when she held her own banquet, but Ester was celebrated with a banquet prepared by the king.
In other words, don’t throw your own party; wait and let the king do it.

  5. 17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

  6. 17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

Vashti missed her opportunity to be queen because of one act of rebellion . However Esther was blessed because she obtained grace and favour. Doing righteousness and being faithful always works out in the end! The bible says the willing and obedient will eat the good of the land!

  7. 15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.

Esther required nothing…………she was already clothed with the beauty of the inner peace God had placed within her. The assurance from the teaching of her uncle and her love for her God and her people gave her the separation from all of the other women brought before the king. No one can stand up against the beauty of the presence of God. Gid had a plan and He was going to use an orphan girl to fulfill it.

  8. So it came to pass, when the king’s commandment ?
commandment is where you follow the lords law on which he gives you Amen

  9. iLove to Grow in the Word
19Even after all the young women had been transferred to the second harem and Mordecai had become a palace official, 20Esther continued to keep her family background and nationality a secret. She was still following Mordecai’s directions, just as she did when she lived in his home.

    Boom!

    Yep, Boom.

Esther chose to be submitted even though she had become the most favored person in the kingdom. She “continued following Mordecai’s directions, just as she did at home.” Where are the highly favored people of God that still follow the man of God’s directions? Spiritual gifts and talents and riches and position and fame and attention and prophecies and tongue talking and interpretation of tongues and miracles and signs and wonders and anything else does not exempt us from following the directions of the man of God…oh yeah…did I say Boom?

I am grapely and piely flavored

  10. 15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed.

    Obtaining favor.

With God all things are possible. We can obtain the favor of men that would and do not give out freely. Let God use us. Let him show his strength and what he can do. With God all things are possible.

  11. TRUTH REVEALED

Gates and hallways are usually pathways of gossip. Passing impressions, snide remarks and selfish ambition usually rule the corridors and gates, the passageways to go in and come out. We are unsure if it was told to Mordecai or if he overheard them speaking. However we know that there was division and resentment at the door toward the king.

Mordecai reported the revolt to someone he trusted and we witness TRUTH REVEALED.

The past 2 chapters have revealed rebellion and how it is expressed in unique and diverse applications. However in both cases the rebellion was addressed.

JESUS examine my heart and reveal any and all rebellion that is present in my heart or spirit. Father, forgive me for resisting your will and call. I present myself humbly before you. In JESUS name.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray

  12. Esther 2:4 And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing please the king and he did so. Now in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew whose name was Mordecai the son of Jair the son of Shimei the son of Kish a Benjamite who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away. And he brought up Hadassah that is Esther his uncle’s daughter for she had neither father nor mother and the maid was fair and beautiful whom Mordecai when her father and mother were dead took for his own daughter.

  13. 20 Esther continued to keep her family background and nationality a secret. She was still following Mordecai’s directions, just as she did when she lived in his home. (NLT)

Young people you can’t ride the coats of your parents forever. At some point, and not even at the point of physically moving out of the home, but at some point you must choose if you will continue to follow the truth you’ve been taught or not. Stay submitted!

  14. 7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter.

God’s purpose is always at the forefront of His mind. If we become an obstacle, then there will always be a replacement rise up to take our place so that His purpose can be fulfilled.

We must keep a good attitude, keep a right spirit and keep full of the Holy Ghost so that deception does not over us.

  15. 17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

The king had favor over esther
He lover her over all the other
While i was read this chapter it got me thinking about the favor of god what all god did when he had favor over his people
I believe god has favor over the pofw i can’t wait to see what all god has in store for us

  16. Having the favour of the Lord is greater than anything. It was Gods favour that esther and mordecai had. Thank you father for havong favour over my life. In my struggles is when i feel your love the most. Amen

  17. Rightous living and living sacrificially are Gods laws. Staying in his shadow is our best bet to stay saved. Keep favor with God and keep peace with others is what we should strive for. God will always take care of us.

  18. Esther 2
1st Esther pleased Hegai and obtained kindness of him.
2nd Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.
3rd Esther was loved by the king above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight.

So what was it about Esther that caused her to obtain kindness, favour, and grace with people? I believe it went beyond her outer beauty, but it was her inward beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. (Humbleness)
1 Peter 3:4 (NLT) “You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”

  19. 17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

Allow God tool exalt you in due season. Don’t do it yourself.pride comes before destruction

  20. 21 In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus.

22 And the thing was known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mordecai’s name.

  21. Esther 2:21-22 (KJV Strong’s)
21 In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus. 22 And the thing was known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mordecai’s name.

This was a set up. The people of God lived mediocre lives under submission to the king. But God had something else in store. The beginning of the story is the catalyst for the end. God was going to give his people favor, and get rid of her enemies.

Problems, trials, and set backs are not always what they seem. Sometimes God is allowing us to go through trouble because of the blessing on the other side.

    Right perspective.

  22. 17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

Who says their is no such thing as love at first sight? The first time Esther met the king he fell in love with her. In fact her entire journey to meeting him was covered in favor. Hegai favored her and gave her maids, everything she needed and the best place to stay. This process included purifying herself that took a total of 12 months. Before going before the king earthly or heavenly we must prepare ourselves as Esther did. It may not take exactly 12 months but the process of purification is vital. The King of Kings is returning for a bride without spot or blemish. Getting ourselves prepared will determine if we will be favored as Esther was.

  23. But Mordecai heard about the plot and gave the information to Queen Esther. She then told the king about it and gave Mordecai credit for the report.
    Esther 2:22 NLT

Make sure to give credit where credit is due. We should strive to be humble to give us an oportunity to be used of God. He looks at the proud from afar.

  24. “And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.” The word of God (Jesus) identified what happened after investigating. One may not always want to look into a matter, because of what may be discovered; however there are times that one should. Dear God, let your will be done. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  25. “Esther had not yet shewed her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her: for Esther did the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him.” Esther was obedient to Mordecai as there was a bond of love and trust between them. Both love and trust are precious; however once either is broken it will take a concerted effort by all involved, if it is going to be restored. God help us to never take either for granted, in Jesus name.

  26. God will allow us to find favor with others. It is not because we so greatly deserve it, it is because God is loving and merciful. I am glad I serve a God who cares enough to robe himself in flesh and die for my sins.

  27. And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the palace, to the house of the women, unto the custody of Hege the king’s chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for purification be given them:

4 And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.

  28. v12 Each young woman ‘s turn came to go in to the King Ahasuererus after she had completed twelve month’s preparation, according to the regulations for women, for thus were the days of their preparation apportioned:six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes and preparation for beautifying women.

Perfection is an ongoing process. When we are born again, we are positionally perfect before God at the time.
This continuing process of being shaped into HIS image is the function of HIS CHURCH known as discipleship.
Our GOD perfects HIS CHURCH through the proclamation of HIS WORD.

  29. And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.(Esther 2:17 KJV)

The other virgins didn’t attract the king like Esther did. Their was simply something special about her. Immediately he gained his grace and favor. It was because of who she belonged to that she shined above the rest. She was a child of the most high God. When people look at us they may not know what is so different about us. That is because we shine for Jesus, and he gives us his favor and grace.

  30. 11 And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women’s house, to know how Esther did, and what should become of her.

Her uncle didn’t just raise this young lady, he had made a commitment to care for her all of her life. He taught her very well and she was submitted to his rule over her and this obedience served her well in the palance among the other young women.

  31. 14 In the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name.

I’ve always loved this story. Yet today this verse sticks out at me. I am so greatful that God called and still calls me by name. It’s my desire for him to daily find delight in me.

  32. 17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

A true from the Pit to the Palace experience. I think it good to notice that beauty is not the only thing that matters. I don’t believe it was that alone that brought her great favor with the king.
There are plenty of beautiful women in the world, but a truly beautiful woman is a woman given to holiness living with the purpose of pleasing God. Her holy living set her apart, and gave her the favor of the king.

  33. 19 And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordecai sat in the king’s gate.

20 Esther had not yet shewed her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her: for Esther did the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him.

Be careful who you let influence you. Don’t let people stray you away from God. Obey His Commandments Daily!!!!

  34. “On one of the occasions when the virgins were being gathered together, Mordecai was sitting at the King’s Gate. All this time, Esther had kept her family background and race a secret as Mordecai had ordered; Esther still did what Mordecai told her, just as when she was being raised by him.”
    ‭‭Esther‬ ‭2:19-20‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Even after being crown queen she was till under authority of her cousin Mordecai. Thankful for Gods favor.

  35. 20 Esther had not yet shewed her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her: for Esther did the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him.

SUBMISSION, true submission, extends beyond when someone is watching you. It goes beyond when you are with someone. True submission is a lifestyle that you carry everywhere at all times.

  36. The right place at the right time – is more than coincidence

21-22 On this day, with Mordecai sitting at the King’s Gate, Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs who guarded the entrance, had it in for the king and were making plans to kill King Xerxes. But Mordecai learned of the plot and told Queen Esther, who then told King Xerxes, giving credit to Mordecai.

Mordecai was in the right place at the right time. Why was he sitting at the King’s Gate? Was he there for Esther? Was he being the best father he knew how to be to her? Was he there to offer support to Esther in her new role as queen? Likely so. Life was likely hard for Mordecai as it was for any other person. However, he felt it his duty to take in this orphan child and raise her to the best of his ability and provider her with what she needed to be successful – and it payed off.

Esther could have taken the news to Xerxes as her own discovery but she chose to honor Mordecai. Earlier in the chapter it was stated she only chose the things recommended to her from Hegai; likely she could have chosen from among thousands of items of clothing, accessories, jewelry, etc. She took the advice of those appointed over her.

Being in the right place at the right time is more than coincidence is the result of our actions or inaction’s depending on the circumstances. We make thousands of decisions a day. Some are trivial such as what to have for lunch. Others are monumental such as can I beat the red light. There are consequences for our decisions – a full belly or a collision with another vehicle.

  37. “Now when every maid’s turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the purifying of the women;)”
    ‭‭Esther‬ ‭2:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Often we have to wait through things thy we don’t expect to take a while. It then starts looking like it might be for ever that you be in this place, but hold on and your time will end.

  38. Just like when the King chose Esther he gave her all the kingdom and favored her greatly so does Jesus with his bride. Once you are in the kingdom you can walk in the authority of the king. Vashti like many in the kingdom today forfitted the authority to do their own thing. Authority comes with a price but it is worth it when you walk in the reward.

  39. 8As a result of the king’s decree, Esther, along with many other young women, was brought to the king’s harem at the fortress of Susa and placed in Hegai’s care.

At this point, Esther probably could believe or what was happening to her. She patiently waited, and let everything just develop in her favor. We too should be patient, and let God do his miracles and blessing on his time.
