Job 2

1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord.

2 And the Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

3 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

4 And Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

5 But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.

6 And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

11 Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.

13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.

  1. Hob 2:6
The Lord said to satan “very well then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life.”

The Lord is in control of everything everything was created by him and for him.

    1 corinthians 10:13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

  2. Verse 10 AMP “But he said to her, “You speak as one of the [spiritually] foolish women speaks [ignorant and oblivious to God’s will]. Shall we indeed accept [only] good from God and not [also] accept adversity and disaster?” In [spite of] all this Job did not sin with [words from] his lips.” What an awesome foresight and rapport Job had with the Lord. Once again he knew that God was with him through everything….good or bad.

Ecclesiastes 7:14 MSG “On a good day, enjoy yourself; On a bad day, examine your conscience. God arranges for both kinds of days So that we won’t take anything for granted.”

Psalm 62:7-8 MSG “My help and glory are in God—granite-strength and safe-harbor-God—So trust him absolutely, people; lay your lives on the line for him. God is a safe place to be.”

  3. 7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

Here again God let Satan loose upon Job and still he did not curse God. For if my faith is strong; there is nothing that can be done to me; to turn me away from the love of God. I know that there are going to be tests of my faith all through my life, but no matter how bad it seems: I know that God is there to protect me. Thank you Jesus for all that you are doing in my life.

Isa 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.

  4. 9. Then said his wife unto him, dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

    inˈteɡrədē/
    noun
1.the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.

2.the state of being whole and undivided.

To curse God, even in these extreme circumstances, would be to lose honesty, principles and uprightness, and actually become divided, or “fall apart”. (Which apparently his wife had already done)

  5. 2 And the Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

3 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

God started this. The devil didnt bring Job up in conversation, God did. God is more than able and willing to shake us out of our comfort zones and stir us inside. If God will do that to one of his most noble men at the time, what makes us think He wont do that to us?

  6. Verse 10 AMP “But he said to her, “You speak as one of the [spiritually] foolish women speaks [ignorant and oblivious to God’s will]. Shall we indeed accept [only] good from God and not [also] accept adversity and disaster?” In [spite of] all this Job did not sin with [words from] his lips.”
job was wise In how he dealt with the issues he faced. He never blamed God and he even had a careful answer for his wife. He didn’t allow himself to loose it in the middle of his mess instead he continued to show faithfulness and trust in God

  7. iLove to Grow in the Word

“What Does it Mean to Curse God?”
Job 2:4 Satan replied to the lord, “Skin for skin! A man will give up everything he has to save his life. 5But reach out and take away his health, and he will surely [curse] you to your face!”

As I sat here earlier meditating of the Word of God, the thought came to me, “How exactly does a man curse God?” Then I wondered if I was guilty of cursing God accidently. So, being the Hebrew Scholar that I’m not, I looked up the word “curse” in its original language and found the word to be very interesting. To diffuse any misunderstanding, the word used for “curse” God is the word “Barak” which means “to bless” or “worship”. What determines if the word is in a positive context is who you are worshipping. To “barak” God is good, to “barak” anything else is a curse.

    H1288
    בָּרַךְ
    bârak
    baw-rak’
A primitive root; to kneel; by implication to bless God (as an act of adoration), and (vice-versa) man (as a benefit); also (by euphemism) to curse (God or the king, as treason): –    X abundantly, X altogether, X at all, blaspheme, bless, congratulate, curse, X greatly, X indeed, kneel (down), praise, salute, X still, thank.
    Total KJV occurrences: 330

Whenever trials in life come, it is for one purpose…to see who you will “barak”. If you backslide, it is a form of cursing God and worshipping the enemy. Don’t bow the knee to the devil, praise God and Live. 🙂

  8. God is not the author of evil.

  9. 8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

The tests and trials God let’s us go through helps us see where we are spiritually.

  10. We never know what we are gonna be up against. So God is in control and has us under his wing. Cursing God should never be an option.

  11. And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

  12. But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.
    Job 2:10 NLT.

This why we need to continue to read the word of God and keep in our hearts because when the enemie comes against us the power of god words will stand before us

  13. 10 But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong. (NLT)

Well…? I’m sure as of now we’d all say Job was an honorable man and we would all do the same because of course, we would never curse God! …I for one think you’ll never really know how you’ll react to a situation until you’re actually in it. Remember the words we speak when trouble comes, remember this verse and know God wouldn’t allow more than we can bear.

  14. GOD IS FAITHFUL

Relationships are built on the willingness to rise and fall with integrity. The relationship with GOD and man is so intimate that GOD knows what we think, how we feel and how we are able.

In the attempts of satan to distract, detour and disqualify Job fell by the wayside. To blame GOD is to curse GOD. The weak minded wife of Job who no doubt experienced similar pain as Job, spoke from the pain of her heart. For this cause Job, the head of the house, the priest of the home was her only hope of salvation.

Job rebuked her in her foolish pain. Then revealed his understanding of GOD.

    MSG
10 He told her, “You’re talking like an empty-headed fool. We take the good days from God—why not also the bad days?”
Not once through all this did Job sin. He said nothing against God.

If we attempt to spiritualize or define every single event in our life, we will be totally confused. We must accept that GOD is GOD and he rules the heavens and the earth and we are all instruments in his hand.

We are aware of the conversation between satan and GOD, however Job was not aware of the conversation and yet maintained his TRUST and INTEGRITY in GOD. We are wise and mature to practice:

Psalm 34:1 I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  15. 13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.

We feel the grief and we do mourn when we lose a loved one or when extreme tragedy strikes. We can feel a large range of emotions because we are flesh and blood, but to blame God for our loses or for the tragedies of life is wrong. Instead we must hold to him even closer during these times because he is our strength, our strong tower and safe place to retreat to when our world turns upside down. He is our comfort and peace in the storm. I pray that when “in the valley” I do not sin with my lips and will realize that the Lord gives and takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord.

  16. Job 2:3 & 9
    3) And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his INTEGRITY, although they movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
    9) Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine INTEGRITY? curse God, and die.

Forbes says, “INTEGRITY means doing the right thing at all times and in all circumstances, whether or not someone is watching.”

Job kept his INTEGRITY through it all.

  17. “…We take the good days from God—why not also the bad days…”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭2:10‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Are we such spoiled children that we can only praise and worship God on good days when things are going our way? I am not perfect. I fall victim to this state of thinking. Am I not protected from the bad things and hardships of life? Why would God allow such terrible things to happen to his children – those He supposedly love?

God may chose to allow us to travail for a season but it is done from a loving heart. Satan will take every opportunity to break us and destroy our relationship with God – by any means necessary. When we deprive those we love from learning hard lessons or God continually saves us from these hard lessons we often deprive those we love and/or ourselves of the opportunity for the growth and maturity. Additionally, we eliminate any incentive someone might have for change when we hesitate to save them from themselves.

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it” (Hebrews 12:11).

  18. 9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

Earlier this year I lost someone very special to me, and instead of saying that it was Gods will for her to pass on, I got prideful and said that I was angry that he didn’t heal her the way that I wanted! PRIDE is a killer, with that thought and feelings everything was infected, my prayer life, my desire to do the blog, my marriage, but MOST IMPORTANT MY RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, and when that went south everything else did too, one thing I’ve learned through all of this is, God is who he is for a reason, I dont deserve nor does he owe me any type of explanation! God is still God he is still doing great things with or without me! Thank You Jesus I am back where I should be, all my foolish pride laid down!

  19. 9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

It is sad when husbands and wives do not share the same convictions or passion for serving the Lord, and the desire to protect the integrity of being called for the Lord. Women must keep submitted to the Lord so they operate in their ritual place in Gods kingdom, submitted to their husband, but know who they are in the Spiirt and be all they can be for God

  20. 10 But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.

It’s so crazy how only the people that put faith in God and trust him to be the provider get to see or comprehend the idea that God has for them in the good and bad. But the people that don’t only get the sight of the bad because that’s where the people with the victory put the enemy under, our feet. God I pray that in good and bad times let me say thank you for all that you have done.

  21. Taking the good and the bad. I am guiltt. Never saw life like this. I have been quick to accept the blessings of the Lord ( the good ones) but salty with the ones that didnt taste so good. Oh Lord please forgive me. I know that all things, good and bad, are fir my good and your Glory

  22. 10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

As a wife we are suppose to help life up our husbands and encourage them spiritually.

  23. Job 2:6 (KJV Strong’s)
6 And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

This is remarkable. Even when we are in the hands of satan, God can still save us. He can rescue us. When the enemy has lied to us, deceived us, and tricked us, God can still save us. Even if we think we have sold our souls to the devil God can still save us.

The devil has no power too big that God can’t save us.

  24. 9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

In all things give thanks. In the good times and the bad, the Lord is still God and in control. We are to offer the sacrifice of praise giving thanks unto his name.

  25. During our time of testing, it is important to remember to maintain our trust in God. Things may not always go the way you think they should. If we just continue to have faith in God, everything will turn out alright.

  26. Even if the devil wants to brings us down and destroy us we must stay strong and let the Lord pick us up. We have to let Him do the work and show us why He lets us go through tests. We must be strong, pass the test, and watch what God is going to do with us. Your plans are better than my plans Lord!!!!

  27. Job 2:9 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!”

    Integrity
the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.
synonyms: honesty, probity, rectitude, honor, good character, principle(s), ethics, morals, righteousness, morality, virtue, decency, fairness, scrupulousness, sincerity, truthfulness, trustworthiness

What was Jobs wife asking for him to give up really?

“A person is not given integrity. It results from the relentless pursuit of honesty at all times.” – unknown

I guess a equally important question is, why Job wasn’t willing to give up his integrity. I believe it was a long and constant life of honest that God put faith on. His faithfulness had been put to the test and had produced a rock solid foundation in Job. It was so entwined in his DNA, he could not curse God.

What is God showing us? When we are stripped to the core, beneath all the façade, does God see “rock solid” integrity? God cares about us being honest with strong moral principles and moral uprightness. Having good character, ethics, morals or morality. This is truly what the devil is after, to break our integrity.

  28. “Then the LORD asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil. And he has maintained his integrity, even though you urged me to harm him without cause.””
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭2:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬
The Lord has given us all the tools we need to win. And He has confidence in us to be victorious.

  29. “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die. But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭2:9-10‬ ‭KJV

I sometimes wonder about my own integrity. I wonder if I were put through these things if I would have Job’s reaction or his wife’s. I wonder if I handle things well or if I need to adjust after my re-evaluation. I don’t speak out with my words, but don’t actions say that I am cursing God? Would it be better for me to sit and not speak seven days? I wonder sometimes if the ill tempered complaints that are expressed, no matter how brief, are that of Job’s wife.

God, help me to be more like Job in the fact that things happen, weights are heavy, and I do not speak ill. Thank you God for continuing to show me that through the good and the bad, joy and pain, you are still in control.

  30. Nothing But Good
9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

There is an old song He a int done me nothing but good. Thou he slay me yet will I serve Him. Job still kept his love for God.

  31. 10 But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.

Exactly how we should respond when someone tries to bad mouth the Lord. We should not let others try to convince you to curse the Lord, we have to stand up in our beliefs for Christianity.
